When I first moved into the city of Oceanside, I lived in an apartment complex on Grove Rd. While doing a search for Asian cuisine in the area, I came across Wu Lan Ramen and after my visit, I had to write a review! For some of the best ramen that Oceanside has to offer, I recommend The Wu Lan Ramen located in the Plaza Del Oro Shopping Center, just south of the 76 Hwy. It's hidden behind the 24 Hour Fitness and CVS. The plaza has limited parking, but it isn't typically too crowded and you should be able to find parking in front of this family-owned ramen restaurant. They have a quaint and trendy ambiance and they placed a lot of care into their anime murals, which lends to a "whimsical" vibe. It's a nice blend of traditional elements & colors and modern (kawaii) accents. The interior is also spacious and has great seating for groups and is also good for couples too. Enjoy table seating or better-yet at their bar seating and you can chat with the friendly staff! They have a "staple menu" that is written in chalk on a board and then there's their menu that is very diverse. They also have a great Happy Hour menu with items priced below $8, including sake! I enjoy their pan-fried gyoza, salted edamame, miso soup, firecracker shrimp, fried calamari, chicken karaage and most other delicious dishes. Their sushi menu is also high quality grade and I feel is often overlooked and underrated. But their ramen is what shines the most! There are so many styles & varieties! There's a lot to customize and their broth is amazing! There are many tasty bowls, desserts and don't forget to grab a sake or a craft beer! I recommend checking Wu Lan Ramen the next time you're looking for some authentic ramen or sushi in the north side of Oceanside. read more

This is one of my favorite places to come for a yummy vegan ramen in North SD county! The noodles are always soft and chewy, just the way I like them. They are generous with their vegetable portions, and the broth is very easy on the palette. :) I accompanied my ramen with a drink and appetizer. The garlic edamame was a good portion, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the sweetness in the sauce used. As for the POG juice, it was perfect! Would definitely recommend it. read more

It smells like restaurants on Oahu. I can't explain what that means, but I got a meaningful whiff that brought me right to Oahu, haha. Not any other Hawaiian island, lol. It wasn't the best ramen I've ever had, but it satisfied the inexplicable ramen craving I have been experiencing when I tax my brain for hours on end. Another big pro is that they have chicken ramen options, which I always appreciate. I don't typically love ramen, so definitely take my assessment with a grain of salt. Update 4/25: It genuinely makes me a little sad to write this, because I used to absolutely adore Wulan , it's right down the street from my house and the Ghibli references inside make it feel so special and charming! But the last two visits have been pretty disappointing, and I feel like honesty is actually the kindest thing I can offer here. The service has slipped noticeably ...tables sat with stacks of dishes, not enough staff on the floor and the food quality has followed. Brown lettuce in my salad, the corn potato salad being sold out, Katsu that was overcooked and dry. That's really hard to overlook, especially when a bowl of ramen is running $16 to $20 and there are solid alternatives like Beshock and Gonzo nearby. That said, the ramen itself is still genuinely good! If you're going purely for ramen and can let the rest slide, it's still one of the better spots around. I'm just rooting for them to bounce back, because I really, truly want to love this place again the way I used to! read more

The Hot Chick was good, a bit too spicy for me and the broth could've been hotter (temperature-wise) but all the ingredients were good in it! I'm new to Oceansides from LA and in search of a new ramen spot. I got the Wu Lan Ramen in hopes of that creamy Tonkotsu pork broth with those deep umami undertones. It came out looking great but I was somewhat saddened by the broth. Instead of creamy and rich, it felt watered down and lacked that flavorful salty note. Positives: Bamboo shoots, egg, and noodles were yummy Room for improvement: Broth. My chashu was mostly fat and did not have a lot of actual meat. With the char, I expected to bite into something flavored and salted with soy, but it was very bland, tough, and fatty. I really wanted this to work out, but the broth needs more love. I've been coming here a lot recently and have finally decided to write them a well-deserved review. Wu Lan has a very warm and cozy atmosphere. The staff are always friendly, helpful, and patient. You get a good amount of food for the price, especially during happy hour. Not gonna lie, I did not trust this ramen place to make other types of food well, but they have the best takoyaki I've had, their sushi is surprisingly good too, and my go-to nowadays is their teriyaki ribeye plate. Speaking of, I've ordered that teriyaki ribeye plate maybe 6 times now and every single time it's been cooked perfectly with some pink in the middle which is especially impressive considering it's a thinner steak. The smoky and charred flavors balance well alongside the teriyaki sauce which complements the steak and rice instead of overpowering it. The steak sits on a bed of rice (really well cooked and fluffy every time) and comes with miso soup, corn salad, and potato salad. All for $19. So worth it. Oh yeah, and of course their ramen's good too. Personally I'm just not a big ramen or soup kinda guy so I gravitate toward the rest of their menu. And to keep things feeling a bit less biased, I'll mention one menu item I don't like all too much. Their pork bao bun which I've had on 3 occasions is kind of like a shredded/pulled pork that's really dry. The rest of the flavors on it are fine, but I'm used to pork belly bao buns which tend to be a lot juicier. Probably not the most fair comparison since they're technically two different items, but either way I'm not the biggest fan of that one. Anyway, if you're debating trying out this spot, I'd highly recommend it. Their menu is diverse yet concise, and they seem very consistent in both their service and food quality. This restaurant never disappoints. We have been dining here for the past few years and never had bad experience. From atmosphere, service to food, everything is very good. Our favourite starter here is tokoyaki. This Japanese snack is cooked perfectly. The balls are brushed with takoyaki sauce and mayonnaise, and then sprinkled with green laver and shavings of dried bonito. Our other favourite is pan fried vegetables gyoza. Nice and soft with a bit of Cranach from frying. Ramens are great too. The broth is always well balanced with right amount of seasoning. Toppings, noodles and meats going into the soup are equally good and flavoursome. I would recommend to visit this restaurant if you are in for ramen or Japanese plate of food. read more

This place is definitely flying under the radar. We've been searching for more restaurants in Oceanside, but haven't been too excited about many restaurants in the area. THIS place was so so so good. F O O D Black Knight - Highly recommend. It had the perfect amount of seasoning and the broth was creamy, garlicky, and had just the right amount of salt (not too salty). My hubby wanted to combine my broth with his Mega Pig. Chicken Karrage - Crispy, great batter. The pieces are cut in such a way that they maximize the crispy pieces. Maybe that was intentional or not, but it was delicious! Jalapeno Popper - This is new on the menu. It wasn't too spicy and had a good amount of crisp on the outside. We got the Firecracker Shrimp and the Gyozas as an appetizer... omg so so so yummy! The pork gyozas had this crispiness, and soft crunch to them. While the shrimp had this semi spicy, flavorful blast to them. We enjoyed the food so much we forgot to take photos, but it was amazing. For our entrees we got Wu LAN Raman with the pork, and the Chicken Katsu Don. and the broth for my ramen, it warmed my soul up. My husband's has been to Japan and said that the ambiance felt warm and homey. His food was also delicious we both indulged in this delightful dinner, thank you! we can't forget about the service!
