    Wulan Chicken Ramen, spicy
    Sue L.

It smells like restaurants on Oahu. I can't explain what that means, but I got a meaningful whiff that brought me right to Oahu, haha. Not any other Hawaiian island, lol. It wasn't the best ramen I've ever had, but it satisfied the inexplicable ramen craving I have been experiencing when I tax my brain for hours on end. Another big pro is that they have chicken ramen options, which I always appreciate. I don't typically love ramen, so definitely take my assessment with a grain of salt. I do love a draft Japanese beer though, so I can definitely attest to that!

Update 4/25: It genuinely makes me a little sad to write this, because I used to absolutely adore Wulan , it's right down the street from my house and the Ghibli references inside make it feel so special and charming! But the last two visits have been pretty disappointing, and I feel like honesty is actually the kindest thing I can offer here. The service has slipped noticeably ...tables sat with stacks of dishes, not enough staff on the floor and the food quality has followed. Brown lettuce in my salad, the corn potato salad being sold out, Katsu that was overcooked and dry. That's really hard to overlook, especially when a bowl of ramen is running $16 to $20 and there are solid alternatives like Beshock and Gonzo nearby. That said, the ramen itself is still genuinely good! If you're going purely for ramen and can let the rest slide, it's still one of the better spots around. I'm just rooting for them to bounce back, because I really, truly want to love this place again the way I used to!

Stopped in for a quick dinner. Ordered Wulan Chicken Ramen at the counter. Found a seat at table in their casual dining area. Food was brought to the table by the friendly professional staff. Ramen was a large bowl of yumminess with copious amounts of chicken. Recommended to friends & family and anyone looking for a wholesome meal in just one bowl.

Worth the wait!!! I ordered the chicken wulan app~ delish!!! My bro ordered the chicken teriyaki plate and it's enough for 2!!! But for him? A piece of cake.:) I had the ribeye teriyaki bowl cooked to perfection!! I enjoyed my large hot sake listening to reggae!! Good vibes:) Take me home!!

First time here and man was it good! The garlic edamame was delicious! Such a wonderful garlic flavor! The place is reminiscent of many great small restaurants in San Francisco! We really enjoyed the great service and delicious sushi! Gotta get back here again soon as the menu is pretty rich with great choices of food for everyone in your group!

The service here was so quick! I liked the vibe of this restaurant too. Tried the black knight ramen which was definitely the better one. The Hot Chick was good, a bit too spicy for me and the broth could've been hotter (temperature-wise) but all the ingredients were good in it! The cuts of chicken were more dark meat and I would've preferred white personally but still a yummy ramen!

The place is clean, food is great! Service is fantastic, I forgot our server's name but my mom only drinks hot water and she made sure my mom gets it. All three of us had their famous ramen and it didn't disappoint. Thank you, Wu Lan Ramen!

Cozy ambience. Incredible experience. Owners obviously care very deeply about ensuring their customers feel seen and taken care of. So sweet and everyone was lovey and attentive. Our food was incredible, we both got miso hot ramen and gyoza. Possibly the best miso I've had. We were passing through on a FB marketplace run and got lucky we stopped here. 10/10!!!

I will come to this place over and over! True hidden gem in Oceanside. Small cute ramen shop ! Definitely is my go to when I don't want to make the drive to SD ! Creamy broth & charred flavored pork chasu giving the broth a homestyle flavour. Guys stop reading and go already.

I've visited several times now and it never disappoints. The ramen is always my go to. Recently, I was excited to see they've expanded their sushi menu, and it's definitely worth exploring. I tried the spicy tuna roll and the Hawaiian crunch roll. The new sushi options add a whole different layer to the experience, making it just as fun to come for rolls as it is for ramen. Between the consistently great ramen and the fresh sushi menu, this has become one of my favorite spots to keep coming back to.

I'm new to Oceansides from LA and in search of a new ramen spot. I got the Wu Lan Ramen in hopes of that creamy Tonkotsu pork broth with those deep umami undertones. It came out looking great but I was somewhat saddened by the broth. Instead of creamy and rich, it felt watered down and lacked that flavorful salty note. Positives: Bamboo shoots, egg, and noodles were yummy Room for improvement: Broth. My chashu was mostly fat and did not have a lot of actual meat. With the char, I expected to bite into something flavored and salted with soy, but it was very bland, tough, and fatty. I really wanted this to work out, but the broth needs more love. The broth is one of the main reasons why I crave ramen

We love Wu lan!! You order by the counter which makes it easier for us. Food is always great! We Love potstickers and crackers shrimp appetizers. They have a great happy hour deal. Ramen is so tasty and the sushi rolls are always fresh. I understand it does get busy around dinner time but it's so worth the wait food is delicious. I always enjoy the art in the walls.

We were greeted as we entered this establishment. The staff was warm. The food was not bad. I enjoyed the broth of the Hot Chic ramen. It could've used some lemon. I thought the place could use a good cleaning, but again not too bad.

We settled on Oceanside in hopes of finding good food, as our weekend (end of Feb) had been full of a poor results. This place came up as very well rated on Yelp, as my friend and I searched for places to eat. It was a Saturday night with great weather. The red flag I should have read into was that the lone guy working that night was a one man show. He was doing it all in the front of the house. I tried to get us a table to sit outdoors but he just couldn't get to the table to clean it. After about 20 minutes he finally came and just moved all the bowls to the empty table next to it and wiped it down. When my friends finally arrived we all sat down to sticky menus that had NO descriptions. What you see on the website is exactly what they have on the menu. We had to wait to ask the server/host what each menu item meant. It took a while to get our food from when we ordered. Thank goodness for good company, I didn't clock it. The food options were limited and keep in mind for those who have children, most of the options come with a spicy kick, you'll have to explicitly tell them "no spicy"! There was a party who had been sitting for a while before we got there and a kiddo took a bite of pizza and was crying, screaming from it being so spicy. With my ramen the portions are tiny for what you pay, with 1 piece of meat, not enough noodles. Flavor wise it was spicy and bland. We ordered a couple appetizers which were not very good. The edamame was overly salty and soaked in soy sauce and the karaage was probably the only good thing and that was a little overfried. No one in our party finished our food or took any of the leftovers home. Save yourself the trip, not worth trying the "unique foods".

I searched through yelp and saw the pictures of the cute little character buns. Then I clicked in and also saw they had ramen too! It was an instant yes! The parking lot was very spacious and no too busy. The restaurant was not very busy either so we were able to be seated right away. It was so hard to choose what to try first. We started out with the chicken character bun. So stinking cute! I probably could eat about 5 of those in one sitting. Then we got the pork belly bao buns. I have tried a few from different places but this one stole the show! Everything about it was amazing! And of course we had to try the ramen. I got the Me so hot. I was a little doubtful to try it because of the ground pork. That's one thing I like about ramen, the slices of meat. Ommmmfgggg it was so good. The roasted sprouts in the ramen were a first for me; however they work really well. They complement the subtle spice of the broth with an earthy, slightly sweet nutty flavor. My two downsides to the ramen are: 1. It doesn't include the typical ramen egg (it's an additional $2) and 2. the chashu portion is ridiculous--they give 2 measly pieces that are like 1/6" thick. While it's good I'd only return if I was too lazy to make the drive to convoy (which is why I went in the first place).

Lately, I've been searching for a new go-to pho spot, and this place is definitely climbing back up my list. The staff was professional and attentive, and the restaurant itself was very clean. I ordered the regular pho for about $15 and really enjoyed the broth. The meats were tender and flavorful, especially the brisket and tripe. Portion sizes definitely seem smaller compared to the oversized bowls many spots used to serve years ago, but honestly it works well if you're trying to avoid overdoing it. My son ordered the grilled pork chops with rice. The flavor was good, especially paired with the fish sauce, though the pork chops could have been a little hotter and had more of that grilled flavor. Parking can sometimes be tricky depending on the time of day, but today it wasn't an issue at all. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and especially the broth. Pho House is definitely becoming one of my preferred pho spots in Oceanside again.
