I want to give a review of this O'Reilly store because of the great customer service and friendly…read moreapproach shown to me by Austin and staff on Saturday, March 1, 2025. I was in Iron River for a ski weekend with family. I drove my "new" to me 2022 Chrysler Pacifica van up on a Friday night from the Milwaukee area (4 hours). Saturday morning when leaving the hotel to drive to the ski hill about 8:30AM, the temperature was negative 11. I had a check engine light and noticed other electrical lights on the dash and was getting no power from the engine. I drove to O'Reilly for them to check the problem. I had remembered that O'Reilly's have an ability to connect for diagnostic codes from my husband and a previous experience, with a different vehicle, about a year after this store opened! As we were discussing a possible tow company, Austin said I was in luck as a tow company employee, he knew, had entered the store. He introduced me to him, he asked if he could see the codes, and said he had an idea of what the problem could be. He said a family member has the same van and had a similar problem. Austin said I could leave my keys at the store and return for them later if the issue was fixed or we would set up a tow. Thankfully, no tow was needed. O'Reilly's employees were helpful in making this connection and being a mutually safe point of contact for an out-of-town female traveler. Had Jeff not walked in, they would have been able to give me some tow company names, and I may have had to stay an extra day or more before the problem was corrected. I felt some relief that the staff could save me the trouble of "googling" auto repair and tow companies in an area of the Upper Peninsula that is relatively miles from "big" cities. I appreciated the small-town care extended to my car issue. The employees truly deserve recognition for this customer service! This type of customer care is not as universal as it once was, yet it is the fabric of America service that I know and expect. Sean on second shift knew about the situation and was very courteous upon my return in the afternoon. I have only positive experiences with O'Reilly and would recommend them to anyone. I usually do not write reviews, but this experience warranted a positive review for this store and its staff! If O'Reilly can capture this service for all their stores, they will be far and above a lot of other retail stores operating today! Catherine K

We went to O'Reilly Auto Parts to have a free engine check. Walt, the employee who helped us, told…read moreus that the issue was most likely the sensor in the accelerator pedal. Since he is a former mechanic, he is very knowledgeable and he explained that the pedal is attached by two bolts and would be easy for us to replace ourselves. Since this was a Saturday, and all auto repair shops are closed, this was extremely helpful! We are from out of state and are going back home tomorrow. We were able to replace the pedal, the check engine light is now off, and the car drives perfectly. Walt is our hero!

A passing stranger honked at me & waved back at my 5th wheel trailer as he passed me. I pulled…read moreover & saw smoke coming out of the rear axle's driver's-side bearings. The bearings were destroyed on that left-side rear wheel. I was four hours from home, returning from a camping trip, and had no idea who to call for advice. The nearest town was Crystal Falls, MI. Google gave me a few different businesses who sold bearings, and I picked Old School Repair first just because I liked the name. It turns out I could not have made a better choice. Ron listened to my problem, asked a few questions, then told me I could limp into town on three trailer tires instead of all four. Fortunately I was only a couple of miles away! As I removed the wheel I saw it was hanging on the axle instead of riding on the bearings. Driving on it further would have ruined the spindle, necessitating a new axle. I pulled into the lot at Old School Repair and saw a "Closed" sign on the door, but it was noon; I figured the shop keeper had gone for lunch. I was right. It wasn't long before he returned with his take-out food boxes in hand. We greeted, discussed some options, and I left him to his lunch while I ate out in the camper. After lunch he already had a friend visiting, just to chat. They talked barbecue recipes and a big grilling event coming up. Eventually Ron got around to my trailer. I had a positive impression of his shop. Things were clean, everything was orderly, tools were properly put away, the floor swept, no clutter. Spare parts & projects already underway were correctly shelved out of the way, but clearly available as need presented. After looking my trailer's hub & axle spindle & bearings over, he had me move it tight up against his garage door so it would be in the shade on this hot/muggy day, and be up on the garage floor's concrete apron. He had a tough time removing the old bearings' races; they seemed welded on. But he had the skills and the right tools to get them off--a dent puller for the front race, and a rotary cutting wheel for the rear one when it wouldn't move with the dent puller. His close inspection determined the spindle wasn't so badly damaged it needed to be replaced. During the afternoon more of his friends or family showed up, and other friends and customers called on the phone. Ron made time for them all, as a one-man shop in a small town must do. I didn't begrudge him the time. I have patience, had no set schedule, and even had been mentally prepared to leave my camper if he couldn't get at it for a few weeks. It was obvious he's that busy. Ron had lots to talk about with me, as he got the hub off, pulled the necessary parts out of inventory (THAT was handy!), pounded out the old bearing parts from the wheel hub, and replaced them all. I was there for five hours, but 2 1/2 hours were Ron spending time with friends & family who'd stop by to chat, and with lunch, and with a pair of former customers that had much gratitude to him for saving them on a previous auto repair adventure--they even had two bottles of wine or liquor for him, since they were that happy he was able to help them with no appointment, had the parts in stock, and could do the work. I can relate first hand to their experiences. He taught me a lot about many things as he worked on my axle & bearings. About racing, running a shop with just one person (he had just hired a second mechanic that day, who was busy moving there from Illinois), about diesel engines and additives, snowmobiles, and of course, axles & bearings & lubricating them. He only charged me labor for the 2 1/2 hours he actually worked on my trailer. Between that and the parts & materials, I drove away from a potentially disastrous event, one which could have taken weeks or even months to schedule & repair at an RV shop, and I paid $310. He got me in without an appointment, accurately diagnosed the issue, had the right parts in hand, did the work with skill and care, and saved the day for me. Ron and Old School Repair were the right tool for the job, and I count myself lucky he was there, willing to help a stranger in need. Thank you, Ron.

I got out & looked, and noticed a broken rod hanging next to the drivers side tire of our GMC Acadia. We SLOWLY drove to Parsons, HOPING they would be open on the Saturday of July 4th weekend.... Lucky for us, they were. And they fit us in right away since we were trying to get home. They quickly diagnosed the issue. The Service Advisor, Ashley, brought me out to the service floor & showed me the damage- Broken driver's side sway bar, plus I would need to replace the sway link AND Driver CV Axle. What was I going to do? I had to get home. It was a holiday weekend, I'm from out of state, and I HAD to get home. They could pretty much charge me whatever they wanted, because I was stuck. They basically had me bent over a barrel...... But here's the thing- They didn't try to take advantage of the situation! Ashley and the service tech told me that although they COULD fix it, they wouldn't be able to get parts until Tuesday. They also were upfront & honest and told me that although it is important that everything is repaired as soon as possible, I WOULD be able to drive home to Illinois SAFELY and have everything fixed there. PLUS, they gave me a parts quote with the replacement part numbers to make everything easier when we got back. I was thrilled just to hear that I was able to drive the car home. They were fast, friendly, & HONEST. And when they handed me the paperwork & my keys, I asked them what I owed- "Nothing. Just drive safe" was their answer. THANK YOU ASHLEY! YOU PARSONS OF EAGLE RIVER! The whole thing took you less than 20 minutes, but I will remember this for a lifetime.
