You know that you've had a good experience somewhere if you can't wait to get home and write up a nice review. Both the service and grounds at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in South Austin were great. We were allowed to check in a few minutes early which was a relief as we had had a long trip on the road. The front desk people were very nice and explained the hotel's amenities well. Our room was easy to find and access. Since we had a sweet, we were able to pull up right to the room and park. The suites also have access from two sides: the exterior parking lot and the inner courtyard with a pool. I was most impressed by the comfy bed. We have had some of the most uncomfortable hotel bed and pillow experiences of late, but I slept like a baby in what felt like a California King. Pillows abound and the comforter was a great weight for winter in Texas. Though this hotel is not new, it has been thoughtfully updated where it counts including the kitchen and bathrooms. With easy access from both 71 and I-35, I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. read more

I used to stay downtown in a big expensive hotel until I learned about this place. It has everything they offer and a whole lot more for 1/2 the price! The rooms are super tight with the best linens and flat screens, excellent showers with high pressure. To much to list, let me just say they have it all and you WON'T be disappointed to stay here! Only a few miles from downtown, in fact only $10 cab ride. Get a room on the 5th floor facing downtown with the view that is amazing! This is a full service hotel and then some!! read more

The latest trip to Austin required a hotel due to the five night stay to avoiding overstaying our welcome at a friend's place. We booked through the same travel site as the flights which resulted in about a $100/night discounted rate. Overall, the accommodations fit the bill but left a lot of be desired. You know you are in Texas the minute you walk into this joint. Portraits of country music legends litter the walls and it was so large it felt (and smelled) similar to a truck stop. Aside from first impressions the staff were friendly and helpful every step of the way. They allowed us to switch rooms after the first night since we were right next to the elevator bank. Room service breakfast did the trick after a long night out at the White Horse. They charge a $2 service fee + 18% gratuity on all orders and don't mention that when you ask them if you can leave a tip. A bit misleading. Our stay was standard just like the rooms. The best way to break it down is pros and cons. My husband and I stayed here for our wedding anniversary. Brittany at the front desk was amazing. She really out did herself to make our stay perfect. I explained I wanted to do something special for my husband. She decorated the room with pictures of Thundercats cartoon (one of his favorites and something we watched during breakfast on our honeymoon) and had cheesecake and Shiner beer ready for when he walked in. She was very attentive and detail oriented. We asked for no feather pillows because of allergies so she 'defeathered' the room and she also make sure we had extra pillows as well. What a surprise! I have been here for a couple of nights during my relocation to Austin and have been pretty impressed with this place. I booked through Expedia for $72 a night. Checked in and was upgraded to an Executive King... sweet! Nice room with comfortable bed, huge flat-screen (42"??), and large, wrap-around work space. Got a chance to hit the pool for a couple of hours and it was fine. The only knock I have on this place was the food from room service. I never order that stuff, but after a long drive, I bit. After the $2 service charge, and automatic tip, the $9 sandwich was about $15. Ouch!!! As if that wasn't bad enough, the sandwich was horrible. As a former New Orleans resident, I saw the muffaletta (NOLA sandwich) on the menu. Instead of the the thinly-sliced meats that are on the original, this piece of crap came with thick hunks of meat with huge chunks of fat. Gross!!! By the time I carved it up, I was left with about 1/4 of the $15 beauty that was hand-delivered to my door. All-in-all, it's been a good stay for the money. My advice; stay here and avoid the food. We booked a "suite" for 169 a night. These are called "casitas" by the staff. They are located facing the pool. When you walk in, you can tell it used to be a motel from the 70 ' s that's been revamped. We tried two different rooms and they both smelled like an old locker room. The beds also felt like they were from the 1970's. The hotel itself is conveniently located near the major freeway intersections, which also means it is in a rough industrial area. I would skip this place unless it was your last resort. On a brighter note, the front desk staff was extremely helpful and understanding. We found a different hotel down the road. read more

Great location...great staff...great rooms! I had the lucky opportunity to stay here. There was a convention going on so I wasn't sure how the rooms were going to be, but they turned out excellent. We showed up early and were able to check in early as well. Huge help! The parking was right outside of the cabana suite which was nice. I'm typically paranoid of having the car in the parking lot but not here, plus everyone parking around me were in the group I was in. The front desk staff was so helpful I left them a case of energy drinks. Thanks guys! read more

I usually stay here the times I've visited Austin and for the most part I enjoy my stay. The rooms have been consistently clean, the staff has always been friendly, I like the fact that I don't have to pay for parking, and that the pool is right in front of the fitness center. The only reason I am not rating this a full 5 is because of the AC. The room consistently feels stuffy even if you're losing the temp. We inserted the key in many different ways by the lights to see if it would make a difference but no matter what, the room does not get cold. But if you can sleep without covers, lol, then everything else is fine. There's also a fridge in the room but it's small. We also tried the room service. We had the spaghetti and meatballs and chicken Alfredo pasta. It was fast, however it was flavorless and not a lot of sauce. Even more reason to check out the foods in the area. Good thing is SoCo is less than 5 mins away along with H-E-B if you forget a few things, and easy access to downtown. read more

As soon as I walked into my room, I turned on the heater. We started unloading our bags but something smelled funny. Within 5 minutes, there was a burning smell and then the smoke alarm went off. I ran downstairs (couldn't figure out the phone) to tell them. They said they don't turn it on often and it's probably dust particles burning. The front desk sent a maintenance guy up to check. The maintenance guy said the same thing and said it would burn off in 5 minutes but the room smelled terrible so we asked for a new one. My brother had also turned on his heater and it spewed cold air so he had that looked at. We ended up with one on the other side of my brother's room, which worked, but my brother's room continued to smell like smoke from next door and he had to air it out. Once inside a new room, it got better. The new heater was only vaguley effective but I just didn't want anything burning at this point. The room is pretty big. It has hardwood floors. Cons: the room is colder but pros: no nasty hotel carpet! I count the floors as a win. The room is also pretty big with lots of little tucked in extras like a rolling table and a hidden ottoman with the chair. The counter top and closet are big and the toiletries are decent. The worst part would be the tiny beds. Are these standard double beds? They felt so much smaller than the other hotels we stayed in with double beds (on this trip)! There's also no free continental breakfast so that was kinda lame. All in all, an ok place to stay the night. Nothing fancy but it's ok and close to the airport. read more

We won't be staying here ever again. My wife booked this online (not sure which site) after I narrowed down our selection. We decided to stay here on our way to San Antonio. Having a family of 4.5, I am picky on the safety factor of our hotels. As we approached the highway exit near the hotel, I immediately thought how lucky I am to have my concealed handgun license. We were greeted with a cloud of cigarette smoke at the entrance to the lobby (because you can't smoke in the hotel apparently). Our room ended up having two double beds, although we paid & booked online for two queen beds. The pool and hot tub were decent, although the other half of the hotel's smoking patrons were drinking beer by the pool. Not a fun place to hang with my kids. We won't be staying here ever again. read more

This is a surprisingly decent hotel! It is outside of the downtown area but for the price I think it's a good deal. One of the things I judge a hotel by is the shower, and this shower was fantastic. I think it was one of those rainfall shower type things. This hotel seems to get more business from convention-goers and business people than tourists, so we had the pool and hot tub to ourselves. As others have mentioned, it is next to I-35 so the rooms on that side do get some highway noise. If you're a light sleeper I would suggest requesting a room on the opposite side. Friendly staff, good onsite amenities, decent speed complimentary wifi, beds are really comfortable, rooms are clean/spacious, and the pool/gym is good. Good value for money and reasonably closed to downtown ($10 by taxi, or $15 when theres traffic). Only one downside is that with the room key it is a little tricky to get in - you need to open the door as soon as the light turns green or else you will need to wait for a while before trying again (takes a few tries to get used to!). read more

POINTS TRAVELERS BEWARE. I had the same experience as another reviewer. I used credit card points to book a stay here. When I checked out, they wouldn't let me leave without paying for the stay out of pocket even though it should have been covered by travel rewards points. Since then, I have spent over two months back and forth sitting on hold with the travel rewards customer service, who has then spent these two months trying to get this hotel to refund the nearly $1000 that they charged to my card, including me calling the hotel and attempting to communicate with management. They refuse to do it. I tried to escalate this to management and was only given the email address of a regional manager who has never deigned to reply. When the travel rewards reps finally got them to process the refund, the hotel fraudulently charged my card the same amount yet again. So this hotel is still holding nearly $1000 of my money that I'm still waiting to get back. I'm going to end up having to file a claim on the fraudulent charge and get a new card #. The hotel itself was lackluster. They almost never had any coffee. I will never darken their doorstep again. This is a G&G Hospitality Group property. Make note and beware. read more

LOWER YOUR EXPECTATION. IT IS NOT HOW IT LOOKS ON THEIR WEBSITE. Everyone was very nice and helpful, but not polished. Why are they wearing those worn out pullover polos? Your facility needs a complete rehab or demo. The carpet down the hallways were terribly stained and/or soiled. Flooring is cheap, cheap, cheap. The walls looked they were painted in the cheapest mustard color. I honestly did not want to stay, but we were in a bind. It felt like we were in the 80s. At least we had a nice clean sheets and towels, so we just ran with it. Thermostat did not work - even with the card that was supposed to enable it. Had to use the old window unit. We just needed a place to sleep one night. Would not recommend this place. read more

Going to a party south of Austin, we were looking for a hotel close by & looked on hotels.com. Haven't used that website before we were a little skeptical, but we were so glad to have found this hotel. Being slightly handicapped, they accommodated us perfectly with a room on the first floor, at the end of the hall which let directly to a handicapped parking place. The bath was huge & the overall room nice & spacious. The only thing funny was that it is a "green" hotel & we didn't realize that the A/C shuts down unless you insert your key card into a slot to tell the room you are there. LOL!! But it all worked out and even had a little patio with a chair & table very close to the pool. Unfortunately we didn't have time for a dip, but it looked inviting. Personnel were very nice & helpful. Would definitely stay there again. Oh yes & the price was right! read more

Wow, what a nice place to stay! Having just come from the Renaissance Hotel at the Arboretum (Marriott's high end hotel brand), I was expecting a downgrade. But the room I stayed in (4th floor) was huge and the bed very comfy. Reading lights next to each bed. Bathroom was spacious, with a curved shower-rod, granite counter-top, and plenty of towels. Desk with ergo-friendly chair, desk lamp, and plastic floor mat protector. 27" or 32" CRT TV (old style) but it does the trick since most signals are clear. TV doesn't have a swivel stand so I have to physically move it around. Plenty of power outlets next to the bed and desk. The hotel is a conference hotel so there are a number of conference guests around. The upside is that they do have a restaurant and a separate bar area. Also available are computers in the public areas for internet access. I had a few wrinkled shirts from packing them in my suitcase. I was about to do some ironing with the provided ironing board but once I set it up, I noticed filthy brown grime on the underside. Disgusting! Didn't do any ironing. Otherwise a very pleasant stay with very good value for money. Location is convenient to the airport, with free shuttles, free parking. And yes -- free wi-fi! read more

No more hipster Austin Hotel for me. This place is the way to go (if you get a suite). Our room had a front & back door, one to the pool and one to the car. 2 separate rooms with 2 tvs, a good sized kitchen, a sink inside and outside the bathroom which I've never seen before but really rocked since there were 2 chicks in the room. Just be sure to book one of the suites named after Texas beach destinations (South Padre, Galveston, etc.) The showers were nice and roomy, the decor was very Texas but not over the top. There's a pool and huge hot tub right outside your door. There's a nice little bar & Starbucks inside too. The rate for SXSW was around $210 for a night but well worth it. I'm sure regular rates are very reasonable. If you're going for more than 1 night this is the perfect place. The beds are so comfy which makes up for the sandpaper-like towels. Best of all, a shuttle takes you to and from downtown for $10 each way. read more

3 stars seems fair...since this is a fair hotel. The best part is its location. Centrally located, you can get downtown in 15 minutes...or down to Driftwood in 20. Staff were friendly and room was clean. Free wi-fi and free private parking lot were also nice. I found the bed comfy and the bathroom fairly roomy. No noise issues...and I'm a light sleeper. In my opinion the room service is overpriced. I ended up paying $15 for 2 pancakes, sausage and an OJ. Recommend asking for a room that doesn't face the interstate. Highway traffic can be a bit noisy. Navigation tip, use Google turn-by-turn on an iPhone. Apple maps really struggles with this location, among others. An average...good value hotel. read more

It was right by i35 so there was heavy traffic at times but was close to a lot of the spots we wanted to visit. The front desk staff was very friendly when we first arrived. The rooms itself looked a little old school inside for a Wyndam. My group and I were out on the waters and hiking all day so when would go back to the hotel we wanted a nap really bad..BUT the hotel had something going on at the pool and it blasted LOUD music throughout the afternoon all the way into late night hours. It was SO FRUSTRATING! I did call down to complain and they said they were all booked and couldn't do anything about it. We definitely couldn't relax like we had hoped and my room door didn't shut all the way unless I slammed it with all my might. Needs upgrades and have consideration for some of the guest that do like their sleep! read more

The room wasn't awful but like other commenters have said, this place seems like it was a very old hotel that was kinda revamped. For the cost of staying, the place isn't worth it. Other hotels of similar or better "niceness" offer you free breakfast for a similar room setup. Bed was overly squeaky. Their "green" controlled a/c didn't work as described though thankfully the a/c did work. Pool area looked nice, as did the fitness center though I didn't use either during my stay. I stayed here again this week for maybe the 4th time this year and it was like I stayed in an entirely different hotel!! This time I had a room on the 1st floor and I don't know if it's just that this floor has not been updated or something, but it was gross!! I felt like I was in a dumpy motel. It smelled musty, the carpet looked dirty, there were loud people all night, and the furniture was beat up (the seat of the chair in my room was actually torn and a lamp was broken). This visit was not consistent with my other stays... I'm not sure I'd ever book a room there again. Now I see why others have left poor reviews. read more

Great location! Just minutes from downtown. The rooms are HUGE and very clean. Most comfortable bed I slept in on our cross-country trip. This is a pet friendly hotel. Wifi was a little slow. We were told over the phone that we would receive a bag of treats & toys for a cat after paying an additional pet fee. After we arrived they said they only gives these out for dogs, but other than that everything was perfect. Make sure you eat at Torchy's Tacos! read more

Much as I would expect from a property this age. Nothing special but clean and good service. Three items of note: People travelling with young children BEWARE of using hot water in bath/shower. WAY TO HOT!!! Same water they wash the sheets in, I guess. They need to add a mixing valve before water is sent to guestrooms. Someone will/has been burned already! The other thing that stuck out was housekeeping working en masse at 3pm and were still vacuuming at 5pm (at least on Saturday, on our floor). Lastly, our room never really got cold. I stayed one night on Sept 12, 2018 before meeting my friends at The Line for the rest of the vacation. This hotel, which is not nearly as expensive as The Line, was great! What I loved was the comfortable bed, coffee pot, ice,clean room, etc. I am mentioning these because the next hotel didn't include them and was much more $$$. And free breakfast with a waiter who would serve you, also, was great. You also were offered a box to take food from the buffet if you wished. When I arrived the night before, I had a delicious salmon dinner. I would definitely stay there again when in Austin. It's about six minutes into downtown so well worth paying a Lyft to get there instead of paying downtown prices. read more

Upon check-in the staff seemed completely un-attentive....when walking to our room I noticed the maids in a huddle clearly gossiping about other staff members. When we got to our room, 10 minutes hadn't gone by when we used the toilet and it started to over flow everywhere...my boyfriend called the front desk and ask if we could be moved and they asked "moved or you just want someone to clean it up" - uh no I do not want to sit here and wait for hotel staff to come in and clean. We went downstairs to be moved to our new room and the staff seemed annoyed at the front. Not as annoyed as me I guarantee. The room was small, horrible paint job, the tv made a buzzing noise the whole time and the ac seemed to not stay on. Walls are paper thin, you can hear people in rooms around and the slamming of doors and shelves from other rooms. When we came back that evening our card was not opening the gate to get it - we called the front desk and it was opened. When we got to our room none of our keys were working to get into the room. My boyfriend then had to go downstairs and get another key. Overall everything was a hassle and not relaxing at all. We always stay at a Wyndham every chance we can when we go out of town and this definitely made a bad name for them. read more

The bartender even called customers "stupid" for not tipping her. Why should she get a tip with that attitude? Ugh I don't know how people work in customer service with no customer service skills! I stay here occasionally for conferences for work. It is so nice to walk into a hotel and the front desk remembers your face, and they are like, "Hey welcome back." They are always friendly. The restaurant always has fantastic food and the girls that work the restaurant are awesome! It doesn't appear that their is much of a turnover which says they also enjoy their jobs. They are always smiling, full of personality, and they make the guest feel comfortable. They even usually remember me by my name, but for sure by my face. Making a last minute reservation in Austin for a weekend stay is nearly impossible, especially if you want to be close to downtown. My husband knew of this hotel and they were able to accommodate us for a Thurs, Friday, Saturday stay. The staff and the bed were my favorite things about this hotel. Sweet and kind people helping out in any way possible with kindness and humor. The bed was so great. I slept beautifully and so did my husband. Although this is a pretty dated property, decorated like an old Texas lodge with beautiful photographs of iconic Texas musicians, I found it charming. I ate breakfast and lunch there and was impressed with how nicely seasoned the food was. All pretty simple and standard hotel fare, but clearly the kitchen staff took pride in what they were doing. My only complaints were the really old fruit salad that came with my lunch covered with brand new fresh strawberries, only to reveal the old and long past it's prime fruit underneath. What were they thinking? The hamburger that went with this fruit salad was delicious! And could have been half the size. But I ate half of it and saved the rest for dinner in my room later. (My room had a small refrigerator and microwave. ). And my other complaint was the condition of the chair and one of the pillows in our room. Both were so worn and past prime that I am sure they are still around because corporate does not want to replace them yet. This is NOT the Four Season's or the W but if you are not high maintenance, this is a good hotel. read more

This review is for a recent three-day stay; I have stayed here before for business, and would certainly stay here again on a personal vacation. The personnel I encountered were outstanding; housekeeping staff greeted me cheerily when I saw them, and the onsite restaurant staffers were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The location is very convenient to the major thoroughfares. I love the linens Wyndham Garden uses; my room was comfortable and quiet. The fitness center has three treadmills, two ellipticals and some free weights; I never had to wait to use one of the machines. Complimentary water and towels are appreciated !
