Lots of interesting tchotchkis and crafty items to look at, at mostly reasonable prices. Sort of…read morean upscale craft / flea market that takes up about half the deceptively large building. The other half is the true salvage business and it is impressively robust. The folks at the front were friendly and the wood stove was very welcome on this warm day. It's a great place to take out of town guests. Fun to find items you didn't know you needed but can't leave without. And maybe a spare window frame or old bar top as well.

We have watched several episodes of the show and have wanted to visit for quite a while. We love…read morethe industrial feel of most salvage items and have a desire to preserve the past and honor the history and stories of these items. We planned to arrive early on Sunday afternoon after confirming their hours. The parking lot was large enough to accommodate the number of visitors and we found a spot and began walking around the exterior to check things out. There was a food truck in parking lot which we did not check out because we just had breakfast at Scratch Biscuit Company up the road. They also have a small amphitheater out side where it appears they do events. The entry to the amphitheater has some of their salvage from the Capital Center in Landover, MD. Michael, one of the employees saw us walking toward the back yard and we began to chat. He was friendly and accommodating and told us a few things about some ironwork recently salvaged from the Piedmont Triad which is our home. He also gave us a few tips on navigating the interior. We made our way inside and were blown away by the sheer number of items. The store appears to be very well organized and arranged with designated areas for items such as doors, windows , plumbing, electrical and hardware. Mixed amongst each space are salvaged items from all over the world. We thought the majority of the prices were reasonable considering the amount of time, effort, and money that is required to secure the items. We also learned that a good portion of the building is designated for various people to setup consignment spaces showcasing their treasures for sale. We once again ran into Michael and he asked us if we had a few minutes. We were happy to tag along side him while he pointed out some very cool hand carved pieces from India and Egypt. We really enjoyed our conversation and appreciated Michael's love and enthusiasm for vintage pieces. It was fun to talk with someone who appreciates the craftsmanship and history of pieces. Black Dog also features a good amount of swag items which will be fun to look back and remember our time in Roanoke. Awesome experience!

The whole ordeal with Carpet Land on Electric Road in Roanoke VA was a mess!! The subcontractors…read morethat lay the carpet had attitude, spoke very little English, made me feel uncomfortable in my own home and cussed. My husband came home early to be here with me. The contractors ripped the step carpet out AFTER they laid the padding and made a huge mess on new padding. They cut a hole in my padding for a "hump" area and when I said something the contractor told me maybe I should get another contractor. I let the manager, Blane, know of what had been done and he called contractor while working at my house and contractor was loud and unprofessional. (I have voice video of this as well) There was not enough carpet that I paid for after contractor had started laying it, so then manager told me they only had a darker color in stock of same grade. (I had movers coming that weekend so had to take what I could get at this point otherwise it would be the following week for carpet) When I discussed the seams the contractor said I would see with the salesman Ron, Ron told me if I didn't want to see seams I should have spent more money. Ron suggested he should just give me a refund and I can go somewhere else, knowing I had movers that weekend! and 3k is what I spent so carpet was not cheap) Nothing less than a jerkface. Contractor asked my husband to do a final walkthrough and left my home before asking my husband if it was satisfactory. Carpet Land is a joke. Never again, and I will be going to the BBB as well. I have videos and pictures to support everything I have said as well.

I recently purchased carpet from them after initially doing some research into Lowe's and the policies that they have dealing with carpet installation. Big factor to me was the knowledge that Lowe's outsources their carpet/hardwood/tile etc. Installations to other parties that are not professionally trained in any of the fields listed above. So, when I arrived at Carpetland, I was immediately impressed with the knowledge that Ray provided for me. Everything from the carpet type, to durability, to padding and sub-flooring were discussed upon my visit. Went with the Shaw carpet in the colour Wedding Day and although it took a little longer to be received and installed due to Covid-19, and the fact that the colour was special order, it was well worth the wait! Going from Cobalt blue and Hunter green shag type carpet, to a beautiful light colour completely changed the look and overall esthetic of my new home! I cannot be more pleased! Thank you Ray and everyone there at Carpetland! 10/10 would recommend! (And yes, to everyone reading this review: I know that the carpet is white )
