From the service to the food, our experience at Shiso was impeccable. We walked in for happy hour on a Sunday. The vibe of the space feels like they brought in the murals of wynwood to their interior design. The music selection was rap hit after rap hit, loved. We sat at the bar. Our server was Marcus. He was so helpful and attentive. Gave us his menu recommendations, which we followed suit. We ordered the duck dumplings and the sweet potato croquettes from the HH menu. From the regular menu, we ordered the bbq toro and the oxtail udon. The duck dumplings had a rich au jus, great. Our favorite app was the sweet potato croquette. Slightly sweet, a satisfying crunch, but soft in the center with tender brisket. The white bbq sauce and parm gave it a nice smoky nuttiness. Ordered another round, they were so good! The bbq toro had an amazing smokey flavor and a nice citrusy butter as the sauce. The cut was perfect. The oxtail udon was really hearty, and by far the best dish we had (though all the dishes were seriously incredible). It comes with a cured egg yolk, which they mix for you tableside. I stopped by Shiso with a couple of friends after enjoying the nearby Elite Event in order to keep the night going a little longer. Located on the second floor of a building in the heart of Wynwood, right on NW 2nd Ave., this restaurant played loungey downtempo R&B, and great drinks perfect for a nightcap. The vibe was dim light and service attentive. I sipped on their rum cocktail that had two types of rum and was blended well enough just perfect for a light buzz and to keep the party going. The mixer tasted almost like classic lemonade. I didn't eat any of the food as I had eaten elsewhere, and why I am only making this a four star review. I want to come back and get the full experience. However, I did share their tasty and creative presentation of a baked Alaska based on one of my friends recommendations. Shiso's baked Alaska is served on a bed of cornbread, giving it a crispier, almost earthier base that contrasts wonderfully with the sweeter topping. Shiso had been on my Hit List for a while and I had the opportunity to go here after an evening at the Arsht Center and Ailey II. Glad we made it. Glad I got here during Miami winter as I didn't realize we were in a completely open area. I may have been miserable trying to eat here during our 95° summers. Food 10/10 We had a great server and went with all his recommendations. All great choices. I missed capturing a few of our dishes. Stand-outs for me included the duck potstickers, the octopus and the Cornish Hen two ways. The cornbread was recommended to us in a couple dishes, but I passed. By the time we had dessert, I gave in and tried the cornbread dessert. Best choice of the night! I'd go back just for this dessert. Service 100/10 Our waiter was professional and knowledgeable. He left before we finished, but he made sure we understood what was happening and who would take care of us after he left. Again, his recommendations were amazing, no regrets! Ambiance 8/10 For me, this place is fabulous . . . during our winter. The DJ played even though we were the last people there. This night it seemed like the music was all dance/trance. My first trip was for Happy Hour and I was definitely not disappointed. I drink gin martinis which is not on the happy hour. My bites were absolutely delish! Duck dumpling, Smoked Brisket Croquette (damn); and i loved the Sausage Stiffed Shishito Peppers! These were about $10 each and, if I recall correctly, 2 pieces each. This time I made a reservation for a table of 3 to have a proper table: too hard to chat at bar; plus, I booked with RESY so t could pay with my AMEX card and spend my $100 credit! (Remember, this $100 credit is four (4) times a year! We ordered the Hamachi and same appetizer that I had before since I raved so; but definitely a different price point (Hamachi $23, Duck $24, Sausage $17, Croquette $16) as the servings were generous for sharing. I asked the bartender for recommendations and both things I still think about to this day. Also the servers were very professional yet friendly. Shiso is honestly one of my favorite cocktail bars. The drinks are always so well done and so unique. My absolute faves are the Saisei and Quattro Bianca, they're soooo good and you really can't find anything like them anywhere else. The food is just as amazing, I always order the salmon belly handroll, but honestly everything on the menu hits. They also have a great happy hour. The bar itself is gorgeous with the glowing marble and such a fun vibe inside. The bartenders are always so friendly and make you feel really taken care of, which just adds to the whole experience. My friend brought her professional camera & we could hardly decide which part of the restaurant we wanted to be the focal point of our photos. The food is phenomenal. They also had a DJ which made it lively but not too loud to have a conversation. Our server Gabby was fantastic, very friendly and attentive and had great drink suggestions when we wanted to order cocktails off the menu. The bartender that tended to us was nice but another bartender was not as nice when we asked for a Japanese spice as if he had no idea what we were talking about? We were hoping to try more smoked options considering it's a smokehouse if they had smoked fish or seafood options but as we do not eat beef or pork, smoked chicken lollipops was what the bartender recommended. The ambiance is super vibey, think 2000s hip hop playing in the background which set the mood. Shoutout to Juan, our waiter. He was super attentive and took great care of our group. So i went back for their burger night on Mondays. I'm ready to crown this my favorite burger in Miami. I'm going shiso first, vice versa, Ted's, and then la bira bar. I honestly can't tell you all the different flavors, but they work. Theres def some pulled pork which give it a Smokey flavor, some Mac and cheese which makes it creamy, pickles which make it slightly sweet along with a slight bbq flavor. We enjoyed our experience mostly due to the amazing service and two of the dishes we had: the sea bass and the chicken lollipops. The sea bass has coconut curry sauce and was fantastic. The chicken lollipops were some of the best chicken I've ever had. They were smoky (3 hours in the smoker), slightly spicy, great portion size, and very tender. We had two orders. The sticky ribs were very underwhelming. They weren't tender enough, the sauce was okay at best, and they lacked an oomph you'd expect for ribs that are priced at $35. I sent two drinks back because they were also below expectations. The cornbread was good, but didn't bloow me away. I think Shiso has a number of things to work on.
