On a short trip to Miami to see Belle & Sebastian in May, we handpicked the best restaurants we could find, and Mother Wolf stood out as a great place for homemade pasta and pizzas. We made an early online reservation because it was a Saturday evening and we wanted to make sure we got in okay. We split an order of Cacio e Pepe and a Diavola La Nostra Pizza Romana, both of which were absolutely delectable. Food was great. Decor was stunning. Only two negs. They kind of rush you out a bit because they have to turn the tables over quickly, which is understandable. The food arrived in record time! Secondly, yes, I know this sounds really petty, but you're not allowed to drink tap water. I love water, but be prepared to buy a bottle of fancy Italian water for the table, which is fine, but wow. read more

12/10 experience! So the entrance is lavish. Parking is scarce but we were able to find parking close by. We were greeted by the hosts and it was bustling in there! We got sat right away (make that reservation to save the headache) and since we were used to the LA and Vegas location so I was ready to order. We started with the focaccia and got the mortadella bread as well. Got some meatballs which are better than the traditional ground beef kind as the meats shredded! Then the 2 diavolo's came and we should've gotten a different second pizza but now we know for next time! AND THEN the cacio and rigatocini came out which we also very much enjoyed. We made a reservation a few days in advance and grabbed a drink at the bar as we arrived a bit early. It's a really nice space and I'd come here just to grab drinks if you're looking for a classy spot. We ended up being seated at a high top, which is just the tables at the bar area. Next time I'd do a better job asking for a seat at the dining room or even overlooking the kitchen in order to watch the chefs in action. Lara was our server who was a rockstar. She knew the menu and was able to make good recommendations. We started with a Margherita pizza was thin and had a crisp, came out quick and was delicious. Good to split between two instead of bread service. Our mains were the Cacio y Pepe which was fresh and had a peppery flavor. Not bad but not my favorite. Rigatoni ragu was delicious and was my fav. I'd order this again. All the pasta is freshly made in house. Finally, we ordered a Banana bread dessert which was good for two and not too sweet. I finally went to Mother Wolf and it fully delivered. The vibe alone is worth it , dark, moody, romantic, and effortlessly cool. It feels like a place you go when you want the night to feel special. Which that's what we did, we ordered 2-3 appetizers, a thin Italian pizza, and 2 different pastas. The Cacio e Pepe with the black truffle was rich and creamy. Every dish was well balanced. We went to Mother wolf on a double date and ordered all the food to share. The place is very chic. My only complaint is that it's too dark but other than that is beautifully decorated. We were greeted by our server and he has wonderful recommendations. We ordered the meatballs, bread, the carbonara, the lemon pasta, the wild boar pasta, the 24oz bone in wagyu, the banana bread dessert, the chocolate tart with hazelnut gelato, and the pistachio gelato. If it sounds like a lot, it was, but it was all so delicious. There was nothing we had that wasn't great or cooked to perfection. We each had different rankings of which was our favorites but agreed that all was really amazing. Another thing we noticed was that we truly enjoyed the food and it wasn't insanely expensive. Mother Wolf is undeniably one of the sexiest restaurants in the Design District. The vibe is immaculate: great music, stunning décor, and definitely a place where reservations are a must. We came on a Friday with another couple and ordered everything to share, as recommended. The standout of the night was the beef tartar incredibly fresh and packed with flavor. Easily our favorite dish. We tried two pastas: the spaghetti arrabbiata and the truffle pasta special (which they let us know was $150). I usually love al dente, but the spaghetti was extremely firm and honestly not a big enough portion to share. The truffle pasta was good, but not memorable. We also ordered the steak and a spicy pizza. The steak was flavorful with zero complaints, and the pizza was cooked well-done just how I like it. The short rib meatballs were another highlight rich sauce and really enjoyable. The squash blossoms needed a little salt but were overall good. Bonus points for having a knowledgeable sommelier who was super helpful. Overall: You come here for the vibe the atmosphere is beautiful, the energy is perfect for a sexy date night or a fun night out with friends. But the food itself was just okay. Mother Wolf is a place that has been on my list of places to try and I am so happy that I finally did! The restaurant is beautiful and there was a very cool atmosphere! Our server was fantastic and attentive during our experience. We also did not wait a long time to receive our drinks and food aside from it being quite busy! I really enjoyed the suggestion of sharing the food options so we were able to try different things from the menu! Our table shared the focaccia bread called "Sfincione in Bianco" and it was delicious and we also shared one of their pizzas Diavola, which had a little bit of spice to it but overall amazing! We also shared two pasta dishes: Linguine al Limon (lemon pasta) Rigatoni all' Amatriciana I really enjoyed their lemon pasta but their Rigatoni was also delicious! service: The service here was extremely slow on a Friday night. Perhaps my friend and I looked too young (AKA looked like we didn't need servicing). No one came by to check in how the food was. When we accidentally received the wrong item, it took multiple attempts at flagging down a waiter and almost 10 minutes before someone came by. Ambiance: It was extremely loud in here and I found myself shouting for most of the conversation. At least since it's so loud, you can't really eavesdrop on neighborhood conversations. I must say I love the music they play here and although I wouldn't consider this place to be a dinner party, it definitely is lively and you can jam during dinner. The food is delicious. Do not miss out on the Fiori Di Zucca, which are squash blossoms that are exceptional. We got two pastas and I loved both. Hidden lovely restaurant in design district. We sat at the bar but the restaurant is much larger and really cool. Open kitchen and the smells are amazing. The bartender knew his stuff and told us about the menu and even some history. He recommended the carbonara and it was good but not great. My friend actually hated it when she tried it haha. To be able to see the menu everyone had to turn on the light on their phone. We got there early like at 7 pm and the ambiance was nice all around but when people started to get there , the noise of people talking made you have to yell to the people in your table to be able to speak. There were a lot of personnel from the restaurant around, and even with that, the service was slow. We had to call on the waiter every time to get water in our glasses, even more after finishing with a plate, the dirty plates were left there for a long time. I've been dying to come to Mother Wolf, and it's been at the top of my list since I first heard about it. The vibes, the décor, and the overall ambience did not disappoint..everything felt warm, stylish, and inviting. On top of that, the service was absolutely top notch. To start, I had the Bacio di Lavanda drink which was Grey Goose vodka, Tanqueray gin, and lavender which was beautifully balanced and refreshing. My boyfriend went with an Old Fashioned, and he loved it just as much. For appetizers, we tried the Battuta di Manzo which was hand-cut filet mignon tartare with carciofi fritti, parmigiano reggiano, egg yolk, and lemon and the Burrata..both were outstanding. For mains, we ordered the Cacio e Pepe, which was rich and flavorful, though a touch heavy on the black pepper for my taste. I actually preferred the Boar Ragu, which was hearty and so satisfying. We ended the night with some dessert and went with the Tiramisu and Mango Sorbet. Mother Wolf completely lived up to the hype. It had ricotta and parmigiano filled inside and all I can say is WOW. The focaccia bread was so warm and fluffy, it was sprinkled with seasoning on top beautifully. The burrata was very fresh and the oil they drizzle on top is the finishing touch of flavor. Now for our entree....that Cacio e Pepe was creamy and probably one of the best I've had in a while. My husband ordered a spicy pasta that he really enjoyed. Now for cocktails we had espresso martinis and mine was pretty good with vodka, I wasn't feeling my husband's with tequila. The dessert though.....that tiramisu was probably top 5 in my book. The portion was amazing, I was so full but I had to finish it. You can tell it was made with lots of love. My husband and I chose this spot for my birthday dinner, and they exceeded every expectation. After mentioning the occasion in our Resy reservation, we arrived to find a beautiful entryway and a warm welcome from the hosts. I was touched to find a personalized menu titled "Happy Birthday Tiffany!!!"--a lovely gesture that made the night feel special right from the start. The service was seamless; our waiter and the entire staff worked in perfect harmony. As for the food: * Short Rib Meatballs: Perfectly crispy on the outside and tender in the middle. * Focaccia Romana Rosa: Amazing texture and the flavors really popped! * Gnocchi di Ricotta: Incredibly rich and flavorful. * Mezzi Rigatoni alla Carbonara: The sauce was decadent, and the bacon was perfectly crisp. From salty pasta to undercooked pasta to bland calamari and an inedible artichoke. I privately messaged the restaurant as I figured don't need to air my grievances publicly. Not a must-have if you are ordering more pizza and pasta. probably would have skipped in the future -meatballs- weird inside texture and overcooked on the outside, although i liked the marinara sauce a lot. would skip For mains we had -diavola: pizza with sauce, a little cheese, very thin and crunchy with a good amount of spice and pepperoni. a little hot honey would knock this out of the park, but i liked it! -rigatoncini alla vaccinara: okay, pasta with shortrib, wouldnt pick this in the future. on his episode on chefs table, he said with ragu you must let it be and just cook, it was definitely tender but i didn't like it on pasta, maybe it needed more red sauce -gnocci: MVP of the evening, you must get this! delicious vodka sauce and soft pillows of gnocchi! So now to the food. So there was a little glitch in the beginning. Unfortunately we were given the wrong menu (as we placed the order) Zach came telling us so we had to reorder but guess what he did? He brought the Mngr & mngr wanted to know what was that I wanted from the wrong menu & I replied 'the wild boar'. Well on top of our new order Mngr gave us the 'wild boar' w/no extra charge. Omg really?! We didn't expect tht! Everything we ordered was just freakin delicious!!!!!! It was such a treat for us from beginning to end. We can't THANK YOU enough! So my sister and I went there just for a little catch-up for girls night and it was such a lovely experience. The food was delicious. We ordered the Barada dish and to our surprise we were told that the Barada was flown in from Italy and yes, it was giving Italy all the way we also had some delicious Tartar. I cannot wait to go back. It is definitely a different type of vibe so if you are a tartare person, I highly recommend it. It is just the texture the visual it's 10 out of 10 and the portion size is amazing for the price definitely by far. One of my top tarts I've ever had our pasta was pretty pretty OK nothing to rave about but you can definitely tell that the pasta was homemade. My sister had the short rib I believe and she said it was phenomenal. We also had a dessert and that was just delicious as well all around 100% delicious I will say that the staff was amazing. I mention this in a 5-star review because Mother Wolf's soundtrack during dinner last night was all the classic hip-hop of my youth - including Ice Cube - and the bathroom was really nice and well maintained, even with candles. We were looking for a place to eat after walking around looking at pretty lights and had not made dinner plans. Mother Wolf was close by and we decided to try it. After parking, we spoke with Vanessa the hostess who was excellent in finding a table for us where our server Jay & his team were attentive throughout our dinner with wine service and pacing of our plates. The view from our table was dimly lit, in a comfy booth with an Italian villa vibe. It's a great spot to take someone to dinner. We decided to order a variety of appetizers. I loved the "SUPPLI AL TELEFONO", essentially an Aranci croqueta stuffed with guanciale (pork), pomodoro and pecorino. This delicious bite was fully loaded, and not just breading. My friend's favorite was their "FIORI DE ZUCCA" (squash blossoms with stuffed with a deliciously cheesy blend of fresh ricotta and parmigiano. The meatballs could have used a dash more sauce, but were still overall yummy. We made sure to save space to enjoy their MARINARA CON BURRATA pie. Topped with a cool ball of burrata, this pie loads a smooth blend of oregano, garlic and pomodoro on a just-right crispy theme crust. It went perfectly with my dry Chianti (more than one glass of course!) Make sure to ask for their dessert menu. Came here again to try their September Miami Spice and some other dishes. BATTUTA DI MANZO (beef tartare): 4/5 was the best item out of everything we ordered (minus the dessert). The first bite was rather refreshing from the lemon and then the saltiness hits. Texture is like a medium rare steak but cold. Really like the pairing with the crunchy bread. RIGATONCINI AL CINGHIALE (wild boar rigatoni): 3/5 was ok. Kind of basic tasting. Felt like it needed like some more pepper for a kick. It just tasted kind of mild and a little plain and lacking something but it wasn't bad or anything like that, just lacking something. Tiramisu: 5/5 was the highlight of everything we had. It tasted really fresh and creamy. My friend and I agree that this is the best tiramisu we ever had. He also tried like almost all of the desserts here and said the tiramisu is the best out of them all. FIORI DI ZUCCA (squash blossoms): 3/5 it was ok for me. I do like the batter, it was light and crunchy, a little airy. It reminds me of tempura batter. Filling wise, it was ok for me, it was a little too heavy for me and a little bit salty. Wouldn't get this again. DIAVOLA (pepperoni pizza): 2/5 was rather heavy, too rich and too salty for me. I had to force myself to finish just 1 slice of it. They baked the basil leaves together into the pizza. I felt like if they added it on after, it would kind of helped cut down the heaviness and oiliness of the pizza. I wasn't able to taste the basil that they baked into the pizza. Idk felt like today a lot of the dishes were rather salty. We drank so much water. On the way home, we were really thirsty. Service was nice as always. I think I'll just go back for their octopus salad and tiramisu if I do go back. I used their bathroom this time and there was barely any light in the bathroom. If Mother Wolf aims to impress, it certainly starts with the décor...but not necessarily in a good way. The interior feels like it was plucked straight out of a gaudy Las Vegas playbook: all flash, no warmth, no intimacy. Towering ceilings give the space an echo chamber of noise. Conversations ricochet off cheap wallpapered walls, and any attempt at a relaxed meal is drowned in the chaos. As for the food? Mediocre at best. Our snide waiter really pushed the squash blooms, but they were overfried, mushy, doughy and the cream inside had been sitting too long as it was lumpy,bumpy and disgusting. Pizza, was just "fine". Spaghetti, while I love al dente, this was nearly hard and gummy with no pizazzas, spicy fun that an arriabata should deliver. Wine selections, we tried three, not worth the $25-30 per glass and came so late. With so much staff I was surprised by the indifference of service level - if you bring out a new dish, bring us. new plates, just dont plop squash blossoms in front of us expecting us to to use the plate they arrived on with nothing else in front of us. Unless you chase the latest buzz, feel like you need to be "seen" (Although go to Carbone or Sunny's), or want a Las Vegas grotesque decor and average food, save your money and go to a place like 'O Munaciello where real italians go and theres no pomp circumstance, just good food.
