    Açaí Bowl
    Charnise M.

This açai bowl is incredible! If you want the real thing there is no better place. The amount of fresh fruit cut up into just the right bite size pieces makes it. The granola is so good, I wonder if they made it in house. The açaí is so good too, I'm sure it is as fresh as you can get considering South Carolina is no where near Brazil. The portion size is so big, I couldn't finish and had to take it home! Though it's a mini grocery and restaurant they make it work. There was a buffet going on while I was there and I am already planning to come back.

The food is legitimately Brazilian and one of the best that I ever had. Great service and plenty of space for parking. Definitely recommend!

Our waitress was so sweet and her and my friend chatted in Portuguese for a bit and she also spoke terrific English.

Next time indeed will post pictures, or will try. Truly the aromatic scents of the Chicken Shawarma will capture your senses when you walk in the door of this wonderful merchant. Although I do have an image of my grocery haul while I was there. Bonus there is a Butcher with fresh meat selection if that is your fancy. There is also Lamb and Goat and it is Halal! Service is very professional. The ambiance is that of a locally owned small market. However, there are plenty of international options and fresh produce! An example, my pasta is from both Turkey and France! Do give them a try.

You pay at the register up front. They don't have a dining area. It was very reasonably priced ($10 and change), which is a steal for the portions that they give you. When I got back to my office and opened the box I was shocked at the size of the chicken shawarma, it was a little smaller than a burrito from chipotle. They also give you a good portion of fries, basically filling up the whole to go box. They put some type of seasoning on the fries that is very good, and the sauces and spices they use on the chicken shawarma were amazing. Don't let the location and first impression fool you, the food is amazing. Everything was hot and fresh. The lady that was preparing the food was very kind and polite, and helped me figure everything out since it was my first time eating here. I will definitely be back.

We eat it with brown rice and a katsuo ume - a type of pickled plum they carry with a cup of green tea. It may sound trite but it all goes together very well. I have successfully made several Japanese dishes with ingredients from this store (thanks to justonecookbook.com). I can now make home-made miso soup!! They have several different flavors of mochi ice cream. The candy/snack isle is well-stocked. There is a large selection of frozen foods. My husband is diabetic and was trying to get away from soda. He found the Ito En teas that are unsweetened. He likes the green tea but prefers the Oolong (it is lighter in flavor). He drinks these all the time now. They have a nice selection of Miso pastes including some that are organic. The seasonings and sauces isle has a lot of choices. We also buy our brown rice here. It seems a little expensive, but the quality is a noticeable difference from stuff you can get at any American grocery store. The owner is so nice and friendly. She is eager to help with any questions you may have like which rice would go best with curry and which is better to eat by itself. She told us which natto brand was preferred by most - Okame (and I agree it does have the best flavor). It may be a small store, but it is a hidden treasure here in the Upstate! Also try the restaurant next door - Sushi Masa. Very authentic food and atmosphere. I see the cooks sneaking in and out of Tanpopo. Sushi Masa uses the stuff Tanpopo sells, so you know it's of good quality (and also really convenient!).

The entire area is designed like a small European village stone buildings, archways, towers... it honestly doesn't feel like South Carolina. What stood out The dessert case alone will stop you in your tracks. They had: cakes, cheesecakes, and eclairs macarons, cookies, biscotti croissants, scones, and pastries breakfast sandwiches + quiche It's the kind of place where you go in for coffee and end up wanting a full spread. Drinks + pricing Full coffee menu with everything you'd expect: espresso, lattes, cappuccinos, cold brew, chai, plus some fun seasonal drinks like chocolate strawberry and s'mores-inspired options. Prices felt fair for a specialty coffee shop, not overdone. The vibe This is what makes it worth the trip. It's not just a coffee shop -- it's an experience: great for a date solo coffee run content/photos or just walking around with a drink You can grab your coffee and actually enjoy the space instead of rushing out. Worth the drive? From Atlanta, it's about 2 hours so I'd treat it as a day trip or add-on stop, not just a quick coffee run. But if you like: unique spots good desserts aesthetic environments ...it's definitely worth checking out.

THE FOOD: We did try their Chocolate truffle cake and hot chocolate. Was initially confused between Tiramisu and Chocolate truffle cake and the staff there suggested to take the Chocolate truffle cake. It was not good at all. To be honest it looked like it was taken straight out of the refrigerator after storing it for the whole week. Very disappointing. Even the tiramisu looked like that. Seemed old and not so fresh. The cake was bland and there's not flavor in anything. Definitely my taste buds were in good shape that day! The hot chocolate was kind of okay. Nothing special about it either. Not sure what's so European about that either. They did have a good collection of macaroons but cake options were limited and slightly over priced IMO for the quantity and quality. AMBIENCE & SERVICE: The bakery tries to be rustic and is kind of decently lit. It's actually very cramped and all the tables & chairs were not arranged as we walked in on one side. The other side had a lot of tables overlapping and no place to walk into even if you found a place. They then started to arrange the tables and chairs on the other side probably after 6 PM in the evening. Not sure what's stopped them from arranging it earlier? Didn't see any cleaning going on either. The staff there seem good but look a lot careless or disinterested or out of touch with the work. Paper towels/ napkins were hard to find and when asked for they just hand over one sheet/ slice of paper napkin. Like really for a table of 3? I would try not visit this place as the quality is very average in terms of food and ambience. BOTTOMLINE: A sub standard bakery cafe with decent options and variety serving bland 3-4 days old cakes that doesn't have to be this pricey within a cramped space and a lackluster service. Nothing against anyone, just was super disappointed with a basic "not fresh" cake. MY PICKS FOR YOU: Avoid if possible!
