We booked a two hour tour. After the first hour our guide drove up and down the same old street. Told the same stories, and jokes as she did the first hour. We booked a tour to see animals. I needed to cancel the reservation for Grant Lodge and Mammoth Hot Springs because my husband passed away. The Xanterea rep cancelled the reservation, but retained a 10% booking fee. She indicated there were no exceptions on the booking fee. However, that 10% fee would be applied to a future reservation. HAHAHA, traveling alone for me to Yellowstone is out of the question. This is not the first unsatisfactory experience I have had with Xanterra and it is unfortunate that it operates several national park resorts. read more

You could actually get it together so your site can be used. It is literally the same thing every month when rooms become available. Yet you go down like y2k when it opens for bookings. Get enough servers or whatever you need to make your site be anything better than the big failure that it is. God I hate booking with you. I wouldn't bother except we have friends coming in from out of state who want to go to Yellowstone. I can't even get through. It is the busy signal of the internet, slower than ideal up. I live in Montana and can go whenever the heck I want. I don't need you thank goodness but I feel bad for those who do. So much for my friends visit MORE THAN A YEAR FROM NOW. Xanterra operates the hotels in Yellowstone National Park. They should be replaced because they operate dirty facilities and asking exorbitant prices. It's a huge rip off. We stayed at : Lake Lodge Cabins They never informed us that the main hotel rooms were closed or that their restaurant was not operational. They had us stay in their old cabins . The cabins were old, filthy, cobwebs all over the corners of the room, broken steps entering into to room, dirty lamp shades, horrible heating system, no wifi or phones in the cabin, floors full of dirt and mud. I had to show these house keeping kids what needed to be cleaned. Their excuse for the filthy conditions was the age of the cabins. I told them that is no reason for filthy rooms ..it was a dirt hoke. They charged us over 400.00 per night for this shithole. The place they sent us to get down the road from them was full of flies. Food was nothing but hotdogs a d hamburgers. For all this monet its disgusting. Next place we stayed in the park was Canyon Lodge Cabins. This place was very old but at least clean. The food was garbage again. Cafeteria style. That's OK but the food was poor quality a d cold ..disgusting. Charging over 600.00 a night for garbage. The Federal government needs to remove this company from operating trash quality. We are becoming a country that has their hands in our pockets for terrible quality and service. Thr park is beautiful but this ruined our trip. DO NOT STAY IN ANY HOTEL OR CABINS OPERATED BY THIS SHAM COMPANY. Xanterra should be removed from Yellowstone and all national parks. Only Stay at hotels outside the parks operated by anyone else..not this company. read more

Xanterra runs the two largest lodges in Yellowstone. While the hotels are beautiful, the amenities are worse than any hotel I've ever been in. Get this: in 2024 they do not offer WiFi for guests. They have business office computers you can use, but you cannot get WiFi. You can use a LAN line to access internet, but you better have the right dongle or you're SOL. There is no gym, no pool or hot tub, no spa amenities. The pamphlet rack of local attractions is empty. They provide rudimentary maps of the park, but without GPS it's very easy to get lost. Dining rooms have limited hours. Food is okay. If you are charging $400 per night, it should at the very least provide WiFi. This is not the 1990s. You have non-Xanterra run options in the park which do have WiFi. If you need connectivity , you should look at those other options. Also, if you are a Verizon customer, good luck getting any service. It's practically non-existent. You might be thinking "don't people go to Yellowstone to unplug and be in nature?" That's great if you a job that permits that. As a psychiatrist I need to cover my practice at all times, and I need internet to access patient electronic records. I've been to remote places: the Amazon, Peruvian Andes, Bolivia, remote places in Mexico, and even the smallest hotels have always provided WiFi and internet access. Why can't Xanterra? read more

It gets worse each time we go to Yellowstone. The food quality and selection is poor with long lines. Even the general stores merchandise and selection of snacks has declined, The staff is pleasant enough but the lack of quality and properly prepared food detracts from the overall experience. When paying very high prices for the lodging( over 400 a night), to eat a lukewarm hot dog on a stale bun does not compliment the overall experience. Xanterra likes to say they concentrate on the outdoor experience. They are lodging and dining. Bad excuse. They close areas earlier now. The rest are jam packed. Be prepared for lack of food choices, fresh ingredients, and extremely long lines. read more

Xanterra is terrible. They pay their employees poorly, give them terrible tools (like food that is just rewarmed Sysco food straight from a can), hire and fire them on a whim, and allow guests to behave badly towards them. I know several park rangers who do not have anything good to say about xanterra. They are just about making money, and it wears on everyone. Xanterra just lost a contract with another park; maybe Yellowstone will be next. I just left Yellowstone, and I saw a guest who was irate because he could not get good cell service throw his phone at a hotel desk clerk. There was no consequence for his behavior. After he left, I told the employee she should have never had to experience that. They need to: 1) decide if they are going to just serve mediocre food for a reasonable price, or serve chef-crafted food for the prices they demand. 2) Charge appropriately for outdated hotel rooms. There is no reason they should charge $400 to $500 just because they can. People will pay, but they won't come back. We stayed in a room in Old Faithful that was so small the door hit the full-sized bed. The fiberglass shower did not work properly, and the room was crammed with too much furniture. 3) Pay the employees better. If they are any good, they do not return. 4) Do a better job of setting expectations for guests. There is no TV; cell phone coverage will be spotty. People should expect to be unplugged. Most of all, abusive behavior towards employees cannot be tolerated. If necessary, guests who are extremely abusive should be asked to leave the park. 5) Provide programs to reach out to NPS employees. Their good or bad recommendations get heard by guests. How can NPS and Xanterra employees work together to provide an overall experience? Why don't they offer ranger talks in hotel lobbies? Why don't they provide off duty recreational opportunities that allow employees from both companies to get to know each other. Yellowstone is a magical place, but the stressed out employees who are doing their best in a toxic work environment make me sad. Xanterra, if you are listening, please fix this. The one star rating I gave was generous. read more

The food throughout the park is both expensive and inedible. The lodging is ridiculously expensive and in some places consists of barely habitable shacks. This is what happens when the NPS awards exclusive rights to one company that doesn't give a flying fig about customers and is using the national parks as a cash grab. I love Yellowstone. I hate what Xanterra has done, turned Yellowstone into a food desert filled with shanty towns. My advice? Yes, visit Yellowstone. But either camp and bring your own food or stay outside the park, eat breakfast and dinner outside the park, and bring in your own sandwiches and snacks for the day. Don't give this greedy company a cent of your cash. You'll save money and you'll both eat and sleep better. read more

Xanterra needs to be replaced. The food is lacking in variety, quality, taste, nutrition, and even availability. If you go to Yellowstone pack a cooler with hard boiled eggs, cheese, sliced meats, and vegetables, and bring a small tea kettle so you can eat ramen noodles with added veggies. I know there is no cooking in rooms but if you can make coffee you can make ramen. This is my fifth trip to Yellowstone and the first time I have not been completely happy. read more

I have been visiting Yellowstone for years and the service and quality at the restaurants has gotten worse every year since Xanterra has taken over. I don't blame the employees as much as I do Xanterra. They are charging ridiculous amounts of money for food and lodging, while the provide little of no training for the employees. Unfortunately the contract with Xanterra means they will be there for quite a while. I think until 2033. They should be fired! The locations in Glacier NP and Waterton Lakes that are managed by Pursuit or much, much better. The employees at those locations, some of which have previously worked for Xanterra, talk of Xanterra as if the company is a joke. Xanterra is a money making machine in many of our national parks, and the people who get screwed are their employees and the visitors of those parks. read more

The entire process was messed up. from registration to dining options. Registration was a nightmare, waiting over 45 minutes to register. Upon arrival there were 3 staff working the registration desk, accepting ALL lodge guests at one location at the same time. Because there is no microwave in the rooms, we went to the dining area only to find 3 people visibly working to serve over 1000 people from all the lodges by 10am. The food was typical cafeteria food, nothing special, the staff was as pleasant as they could be with the rush. there was only one cashier who had to restock all the napkins and silverware at her station in between cashing out customers. There was a 30 min wait to get to the food service and then another 20 min wait to pay for our food. Our food was cold by the time we got seated to eat. Guests were frustrated, hangry and impatient due to delays in getting their day started. Very disappointed for the price we paid for our accomodations. We arrived from Sequoia National Park and had an entirely different experience with Delaware North park services. Much better experience and I will think long and hard before I commit to another park services by Xanterra. read more

Their nickname among locals is "XanTerrible" and it is spot on. This outfit is a real piece of work. They hire teenagers fresh out of high school, don't train them, and pretty much leave them to fend for themselves in all of Yellowstone's restaurants and lodges. Super slow service, mediocre food and cleaning services and minimal options left us disappointed over and over again throughout our 3 night stay in the park. read more

I went on vacation to Yellowstone National Park and I did The Circle Of Fire tour of Yellowstone. The trip was a little long but still very exiting and enjoyable throughout the trip. I learned more about the park in one day then throughout my whole life. We got a guide named Jeff and he made the tour 10x better! You visit many significant locations in Yellowstone, including Old Faithful. I would totally recommend this tour and make sure you get a tour with Jeff! read more

Avoid using Xanterra Tours with Yellowstone National Park Lodges. I made a reservation with Xanterra to go on a Yellowstone Grand Canyon Ski Tour for February 20, 2018. I was assured that if not enough people reserved this tour I would have my money refunded in full. On the evening of February 19, 2018, I went to check on the tour for the second time. At that time I was informed that I would have to pay for an additional child's seat as only two people reserved this tour. (The company requires three people to participate.) I refused to pay this additional fee and quite a debate ensued with the night clerk of the Old Faithful Snow Lodge. After many minutes, the clerk finally called her supervisor, Rochelle. Rochelle told me again to pay the extra fee or my original payment would be forfeit. At that point I indicated that I would pursue possible legal action, and Rochelle finally relented, refunding my original fee in full. I'm quite appalled at the dishonesty, deceit, and "bait and switch" tactics used by Xanterra at Yellowstone Snow Lodge. Try to avoid reserving tours with this company. I know I will have little to do with this company in the future. read more
