This is a mom and pop restaurant serving Xi'An cuisine. The exterior signage can't be any bigger: with 4 big Chinese characters covering the entirety of each of the 4 glass panels. The interior is ad hoc at best. But the packing boxes piling up right besides the entrance is totally uncalled for. The lady owner greeted us and immediately advertised their presumably signature dishes: Steamed Cold Noodles (Liangpi 涼皮) $8.99 and Chinese Hamburgers (肉莢膜) $4.99. I normally don't take recommendations because I am afraid they might be the leftovers restaurants want to get rid of fast, but I relented this time. I only had Liangpi once in my life and I really wanted some verification. And I've had their Chinese Hamburgers before and I knew they were decent. In addition, we added Beef with Spicy Green Pepper Over Rice $12.99 which was only advertised on the wall, nowhere to be found on the menu; and the Shrimp Fried Noodle $11.99. Liangpi: It's unique, not easy to make, tastes good and refreshing. Vegetarian. Chinese Hamburger: A safe choice that can please everyone. Beef with Spicy Green Peppers: Good portion, addictive and most satisfying. Shrimp Fries Noodle: Forgettable. Not much different from a Chinese takeout anywhere in the US. One last thing: bring lots of cash! Even though they do take credit cards, they levy hefty surcharges and the lady owner wouldn't be happy either. BE CAREFUL ABOUT THE FINAL CHARGE AND CHECK YOUR RECEIPT! They charged me $4 more - when I challenged them about this, the lady said the noodle was $15, instead of $12.99 on the menu board. The total was still incorrect, then the lady said the noodle was $15.99 - see how they change their words so casually. The rice was charged extra as well, let alone the additional 4% card fee. None of these was mentioned when I placed the order. I don't think that's the first time they ever did this, as I saw similar reviews complaining about it. If you order multiple items, do the math yourself and ask. Plus the food is just ok - I personally don't think the noodle was really handmade as they claimed. I came by to pick up some food and to try out a new restaurant in the area. Overall, it was a pretty affordable meal at $8, with extremely fast service (only took about 5 mins of waiting) I ordered the liang pi noodles (steamed cold noodles). It was super tasty and the noodles were very silky, making it a very refreshing meal for the summer. It was a little spicy, but super flavorful with the sauce. The cucumbers and the bean sprouts added a nice crunch and the tofu squares soaked up the sauce. Overall, I'd rate it a 5/5 and I will definitely return again! read more

Ordered Bing Bing noodles and Chinese hamburger pick up from Chowbus. Said br eady in 20 min. Got there 25 min later to pick up food. Counter person said it not ready. 20 min. Ok. Waited another 20 min. Again not ready. It was almost 1:20 hh:mm total before getting food. After a long day of hiking, I was craving some Sichuan, spicy cold noodles to satisfy my appetite! On my way home, I found that the closest place to me for this dish was at Xi-An Flavor. I ordered my food and picked it up without a hitch. I was excited to eat my food, but by the end of the meal, I only realized that the food was just okay for me. I'm not too sure if it was because of the overwhelming amount of spice it had or the lack of any other flavors (like peanut or sesame), but unfortunately, Xi-An Flavor's spicy cold noodles were not hitting the spot. Honestly was a little disappointed with my order from here - the spicy cold noodles were as described in previous reviews, basically just spaghetti in chili sauce. While the flavor of the sauce was not bad, it was rather plain overall. The second item I ordered was not delivered. There was a hand written message scribbled on a scrap of paper with my delivery that basically said they ran out of that item and would "make it up to me next time" without any signature or anything. It might be better if they had called me or sent a message through Doordash or somehow let me know ahead of time and offered a refund for the dish. I ended up requesting back the credit via Doordash for the item they did not deliver because I'm not sure if they would have honored that random scribbled note and also wasn't sure if I'd order from here again. It's so hard to find good Xian Food in New Jersey, but fortunately I was able to find this restaurant. I believe this restaurant was originally in the food court in Edison that currently doesn't exist now. Anyways I want with the classic Liang Pi and Biang Biang Noodles. With the proliferation of Szechuan hot pots and dry pots in the area, it's refreshing to see a Shaanxi food joint that focuses on the noodle and rice dishes of Xi'an. The Szechuan mala numbing spice and the familiar capsaicin spice is also present, but here, the food is saltier, with a larger soy sauce and umami presence. Highly recommend any dishes with noodles, whether that's the liangpi or the bing-biang noodles (machine made here). The mapo-tofu was also surprisingly delicious and unctuous. It's a great rendition of a classic dish. Definitely skip the Chinese hamburgers since they're a little dry and boring compared to the noodle dishes, and compared to the version at Xi'an Famous Foods in NYC. Note, this is more of a casual takeout spot, so they're not used to having people sit in, but the service is friendly, prompt, and helpful. Highly recommend this place! read more

I ordered a noodle with note " no spicy" but they added anyway. So I had to through away the food. I paid 20% tip for delivery but I ended up had to pick up. I request to refund my one dish and the 20% tips ($13). To be fair, the delivery issue may not be come from the restaurant. I ordered with Yelp, that uses grubhub. Not recommend doing this. I've been craving Xi'an Famous Foods and this place lived up to the expectations. We got the bing-biang noodles, spicy cold noodles (liangpi), and Chinese hamburger. The liangpi and bing-biang noodles come with lots of sauce and are flavorful, especially the bing-biang noodles (very garlicky yum) Though my parents weren't impressed with how the bing-biang noodles are "machine-made." I am completely addicted to the Xi'an Famous Food chain in New York where I collect multiple oxtail noodle dishes at once to take home. So when I spotted Xi-An Flavor, I was beyond excited!!! I tried the beef with flat noodle. I got it to go, but let them know that I wanted the big noodle. That's not something they usually give for "to-do" because when you don't eat it right away, it affects the integrity of the noodle. This place is great! Great Sichuan/Xian food. I'd recommend their mapo tofu. Their biang biang noodles are machine pulled, but they are still very chewy. The people who run this place are very sweet. It is CHEAP, too. Highly, highly recommend them!!! read more

I brought my family to visit a friend worked next door and decide to have lunch there, The Shrimp Noodle ($11.99 $$$$) were very very salty,. When paying the check, the owner trying to convince us to pay in Cash, however, we do not bring cash regularly, so we still want to pay in credit card. Then, the owner were not friendly after we question about the additional credit card charges (on top of the meal, tips and taxes: item listed with State Tax and CityTax) . Be aware, you need to pay extra if you are paying credit card, which really irritates customer about dinning there. The lady murmured with : "It's just few dollars", in front of the us. I used to love this place, but I need to let the Yelp community know what this place really does. Back in March, I (and my son-in-law) got food poisoning from a large take out orders from this place. I went to confront the owner, who of course denied any wrongdoing. When she thought I had left (I was in the bathroom), I overheard the conversation she had with the cook that they should try to sell the spoiled meat ASAP. I reported the incident to Highland Park health department officials right away. Ms. Kathleen Smith got on it right away. A inspection was done 2-3 days later. It turned out all the staff were infected with Covid, yet they were still serving food to the public. Meanwhile, 17 different violations were noticed. It was shut down for an extended period of time. Told me to wait 20 min which I did and it still wasn't ready...I had to wait total of 45 min for my order to be prepared. I ordered Biang Biang Noodles and guess what I got??? Container full of spaghetti noodles and some pepper flakes, which was not what was advertised. Noodles were not edible...it was ridiculous spicy and besides that there was no other flavor not even salt.
