I am not good with written words, but here goes; This is a shout-out to Manager Monica and the employees of Steakhouse 85. I visited Steakhouse 85 for the first time on Thursday, March 19th. We all know the food is fantastic, but what impressed me even more was the employees. When I walked in, I was greeted by the hostess, who had a big smile and bright eyes. She showed us to our table swiftly, and during our time there, her smile and warm welcome continued as she greeted other incoming diners. Our waiter appeared quickly with the first question would you like something to drink, water, etc. After the initial greeting, and now ready to take our order, he excitedly told us he had the pleasure of tasting most of the items he suggested. His excitement about the food he had the "pleasure of tasting" (his words) was apparent. Also, I had the pleasure of speaking to Monica, a manager at Steakhouse 85. She was kind, thoughtful, insightful, and well spoken. I could easily see why she holds that position and could have talked to her as I would a good friend. How a great manager like Monica gets those around them to react positively is by example; in other words, it's the ripple effect. It is easy to see that she is the type of person who, no matter what she does or where she goes in life, success will follow. Also, I want to say thank you to the owner and all the managers because hiring the right employees, from the cooks, busboys, and servers, is not an easy job in itself. Very elegant place with nice decor. Definitely a nice date night place. Had a reservation for dinner for 7 people and they were able to accommodate. This place has private rooms that would make for nice gatherings. The menu is not so expensive as you would think. I decided on the 16 ounce pork chip grilled med well. Just a little pink. I can say it was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Sweet potatoes casserole who've was so good. Sweet but not even close to too sweet. The spinach was good and I did add some pepper to them. But tasty indeed. Our waiter was really good and attentive. We were one of the first to arrive as it was a early dinner at 4:30pm. But by 5:15 it was crowded and a wait if you had no reservations. Tried to be healthy by ordering both the sautéed spinach and the creamed spinach. Excellent calamari and fresh colossal shrimp cocktail really hit the spot on the side of my ribeye that was made perfectly. Washed it down with something I hadn't had in years... a banana split! Have gotten take out from here many times, but this was our first time dining in and it was incredible. Service from Michelle was phenomenal, and really all the staff that same to our table were attentive and helpful. We did the date night special and added on the sautéed mushrooms and spinach. The courses were spaced out perfectly. I never felt rushed or that we were waiting too long. There is a parking garage immediately across the street and it is a very accessible space if you are using mobility equipment of any kind. Our waitress, Grace, was absolutely amazing -- and actually the entire staff were attentive, friendly, and truly elevated the entire experience. One of the best steakhouses I've been to and very affordable! We ordered one appetizer, two steaks, three different sides, and dessert and the bill came out to less than $200 including tip. If you're looking for somewhere to celebrate birthdays or go out for a nice date night, I highly recommend this place. It gives off very high class vibes, and their servers are extremely knowledgeable in the cuts of meat that they're serving you as well as will give you recommendations for pairings during your meal. This is a very romantic and intimate environment, they have a front room that's very busy. They have a party room in the back and then they have other side rooms that are more intimate depending on which setting you're looking to sit in. Having seen this steakhouse many times in my childhood , I always wondered how it would be , especially in the middle of New Brunswick,Nj. The only complaint I have isn't even about the restaurant or the food , it's about how horrible it is to find parking in New Brunswick on any day of the week. If you go, just opt in for a parking garage , you'll find many in the area and right across the street from the restaurants back entrance. The ambiance is wonderful, very comfortable and warm. Perfect for a date night or birthday/outing with friends or family. Our waiter (if I remember correctly Patrick) was awesome , gave great recommendations and updated us on what was new or highly liked. All of the food my date and I ordered was delicious. From the bread to the fat cap on the steak, it was another great meal. The steaks were cooked to perfection, both medium rare. Crusted / seasoned more than very well. The drink that I ordered may look intimidating but it truly was one of the best I have ever had (highly recommended!) . The wagyu eggroll is another one of those things that by itself will keep you coming back, it's that good. The beef was tendered the sauce was creamy, greatness. The mashed potatoes were soft, velvety, garlicky, I could eat those alone as well. Once again my friends and I came here for our annual steak dinner for Christmas. We love the Delmonico Steak and pretty much have ordered almost every side. The broccoli is definitely a must. We did share dessert as well. The service and wait staff were wonderful. The inside was tastefully and not overly decorated with Christmas decorations. Came here for a surprise party and restaurant, food and service were all very good. Decorated very nice inside, it had a lot of Rutgers memorabilia which is pretty cool. Room we were in was also very nice. The food was very good. Had a salad and mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto appetizers and both were excellent. For the main course I had crab cakes which were very nice. Sides of mashed potato and sautéed broccoli were served family style and both were nice compliments to the meal. For dessert I had the creme brûlée which was good. Service was excellent. My glass was never allowed to get empty and the food was served promptly with nothing feeling rushed. Not a complaint here. I brought my husband here for his birthday. We got a nice corner booth in the back. The restaurant was spacious and dimly lit. It set the mood for a nice romantic dinner. I came here for my birthday a few days ago with some friends and we had a nice booth in the back. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu but the service was OK. It got a little bit slow at times. I ordered the tomahawk shop and it was very tender and good. A little bit fatty but very good portion. I wanted the shrimp cocktail but the waiter forgot it. Recently moved to the area from jersey city and trying to all the restaurants and this was during restaurant week in New Brunswick parking is tough but this is conveniently located right across from a parking garage and they do not validate tickets The ambience was quite loud. Luckily, we were seated down the hall in a back room where it was a little bit more intimate play on the way as soon as I open the menu with the lit up menu and lights and decided on the restaurant week menu, which was called date night and includes a individual Appetizer which we got calamari, which was full of flavor, a really good marinara sauce, and then the main item which we got the steak, which was additional $10 more in a shared side, which we got macaroni and cheese, tiramisu for dessert and a bottle of wine per each couple. The ambiance of this place was nice. I took myself to on a solo date and was seated right away on a Friday night. Service was good. They served bread with some type of herbed butter, but the bread was cold so it wasn't for me. I took one bite to try it with the butter and it wasn't worth the carbs. I ordered the applewood smoked bacon with no sugar, it was good. Can't complain about thick cut bacon. My entree was the cowboy steak and the sautéed mushrooms. It was good but nothing special. It didn't melt in my mouth, and there was nothing that made me dance in my seat. Overall it was just a fine experience. I don't know that I will be returning to pay that kind of money for food that wasn't spectacular. Also, note that parking in New Brunswick can be a pain. Good luck finding a meter. read more

Happy Mother's Day! Graduation Class of 2024! I have had this steakhouse bookmarked for a long time. Interior has that old school vibe. Since my son is a huge steak lover, I chose this restaurant. My very first steak experience was when I was 9. I was having a sleepover at my cousin's house. My uncle who was a chef came home from a shift at a restaurant. As tired as he was he asked what I wanted to eat. I shrugged my shoulders and he said, l know what to make for you...steak. As I cut into it I see how pink it was, the juice which kind of looked like blood to me at the time seeped into the white rice. As I take my first bite, my eyes widened with delight. It was so buttery delicious. My uncle's eyes beamed with pride. It's a fond memory I have of him. My son's favorite is the Ribeye, Porterhouse and Prime Rib but he goes with the Delmonico cooked rare. He now says this is his favorite. I ordered their seared scallops that was served on a bed of rhubarb. I'm big on veggies so I enjoyed the rhubarb. For me, the winning dish of the night goes to their Banana Chocolate Bread Pudding. And I 'm not even a huge dessert person. Other mentions goes to their meatball app, sautéed spinach, and sautéed mushroom. YUM to the NINTH DEGREE!!!! Nikki was our server, she was very knowledgeable of the menu and boy was she funny. She was spot on helping me with my allergies, cows milk and gluten. My husband and I both had the pineapple cosmos, they were excellent! The crab cake was all meat, delicious. My petite filet was so tender I could've cut it with a butter knife and cooked to perfection . So, this update is now 11 years later... pretty consistent! We made a reservation for a Friday night... is a must. It was lively, without feeling too hectic or busy. There is a nice seating area next to a live band.. very enjoyable while you wait. Service was extremely thorough, nicely paced, and pleasant. Of course, we started off with some libations.. they have very good lemon drops! I wish that I would've stuck with those because the pineapple martini that I ordered tasted as though there was not a drop of alcohol in it... I'm not one to return much of anything at restaurants, so I decided to just deal with it.. There is a nice, central bar in the middle of the restaurant, so I may return just to get that lemon drop lol. Our food was beautiful in presentation and taste. Hold up... let's back up and talk about the menu that lights up! LOL. I was so impressed by this. Nice touch! Now back to the food. LOVED the black truffle burrata... it was divinely balanced out with a sweet balsamic reduction. I could've eaten this all by myself, but had to share. I enjoyed my Cape May Salts NJ oyster.. very fresh. My sister lives for their crab stuffed shrimp... Been wanting to go to Steak House 85 for a while now and finally went for date night. I was extremely impressed and fully understand all the praise that follows them. Our server was Edwin T and he was extremely helpful when it came to ordering our meal. He explained everything very thoughtfully to us and made it a great experience. We started with the calamari and a salad. The calamari was nice and crispy. For entrees we ended up getting the petite filets and they were cooked to perfection. Melt in your mouth steaks and will definitely be coming back again. We ended with the crème brûlée and that was the perfect way to end our meal. For drinks we got the bottle of wine included in the date night package and I ended up getting a pineapple cosmo. Both were delicious and went well with our meal. If you love steak, this is the place to go but make reservations as it is crowded . They had live music on a Saturday night . Everything is ala crarte and pricey but delicious flavors await . The lobster bisque didn't quite meet my expectations. My first time here a few of my friends raved about this spot so I gave it a shot .... This place is huge it's bigger than it appears! It's very nice ! Jessica was my waitress she was super nice explained everything since it was our first time . The first thing I didn't like was everything has to be ordered at the same time . I don't like this because usually you would order apps and talk amongst the table think about what you going to get and then order . Even when you give some of your order they don't put nothing in until everyone at the table has ordered. They said that the sides were family style they were not . The loco tots are great but not enough for a table with 4 people , 2 people maybe not 4 . The lobster bisque was creamy with chunks of lobster but I ordered a cup not the bowl and the cup was a small ramekin almost look like a shot glass, to be very honest it the price point doesn't match the size that you get. It also lacked salt. Next was crab cakes, these lacked salt I personally didn't enjoy them and neither did half the table. At this point I'm not excited for any more food coming out. We ordered Brussels sprouts & lobster risotto as sides for the table again is suppose to be. "Family style " . The lobster risotto came out the size was a regular size side could share it with 2 ppl , lack flavor needed salt it's not something I would recommend. Brussels sprouts had bacon on it but still lack flavor or seasoning that also needed salt. So far I'm a little disappointed because the lack of seasoning is killing me. The main dishes order were A delmonco steak with a lobster tail everything needed salt the steak was cooked to perfection but again lacked seasoning/salt. This cut of steak was very fatty . Cowboy ribeye bone in was good cooked to desired perfection but again lacked seasoning/salt. Lamb shank was falling off the bone looked amazing it was some what flavorful . Tomahawk bone in cooked to desired perfection but also lacked seasoning/salt. For desert a banana split was ordered it was actually very good and the apple crumb was also very delicious. They also sale bottles of Hudson select which was cool because that particular Hudson is hard to fine . We bought 2 bottles. Parking is terrible in this area you might as well park in the lot across the street . If you drive a suv the spots are tight very difficult to get out of your car. Drinks ordered were old fashions with woodford they were ok we watched the bartender add water to the drink which is definitely a no no . The overall experience wasn't bad it just wasn't worth it . The bill was about 750. For 4 ppl with a few rounds of drinks. read more

Great place for a date night. My wife took me here for for birthday and the place really exceeded my expectations. We made a reservation a week prior and the table was ready for us in the back. It was a great place because we were away from the crowds and all the loud chatter and band. So depending on your mood, this place offers both types of atmosphere. The service was impeccable. The staff was very gracious and helpful. They were always standing by to make sure your water was full and your courses were coming at just the right amount of time. They gave recommendations about the different meats and what pairs best with them. Now the food was outstanding! This is the definition of a steak house. I got the dry aged steak and my wife got the sirloin. Both were perfect just as there are. They were tender, buttery, and seasoned to perfection. They proved house made steak sauce but the meet did not need it. The cream spinach and fries were pretty average, good but not as impressive. The lobster Mac and cheese was definitely a fan favorite, hot, cream, with fresh bits of lobster. All the portions were huge so very shareable as well. I have not been in the New Brunswick area for a long time to have dinner. Parking is something I would rather not fight on top of a reservation. With a recommendation from someone and another regular place being closed on a Monday I decided to jump in on this one. The Lower Church Street Deck is located literally right across the street from the restaurant, so that worked out well for parking. The place feels like a higher end steakhouse should. Service was top-notch, and it was explained up front that they will take your order for appetizers and dinner all at once. The light up menus are a real bonus. My eyes tend to be excellent for reading menus but in a dark corner (well, in this case across from the bar) they worked really well...and, no, they are not tablet devices. To start there was Crispy Calamari - Lightly fried, marinara sauce and Applewood Smoked Bacon - Thick cut & glazed with brown sugar, at the table. The bacon was amazing, and the calamari was good. Someone at the table had a Hearts of Romaine Caesar - Parmesan croutons, white anchovies, that they really enjoyed and looked amazing. For the entrée I split The PorterHOUSE 40 oz - Aged 14 days, and presented sliced off the bone. Generally speaking, everything was great. Areas of improvement would be having the porterhouse a little less thick. The way it is having a perfect temperature across the entire serving is a nearly impossible goal. The appetizers could be kicked up a notch as well as they were a little on the bland side minus the bacon. Just came back from dinner for my anniversary. Wife and I celebrated 11 years and 9 of those we have come here for dinner. The place is always busy and the food is always great. They have a super attentive staff and if you made an online reservation and list that it's an occasion they will recognize it when you are there. The slab bacon was nice and crisp and love they offer to precut it. My go to is the filet mignon which I get butterflied. The wife had a pork chop and I was not expecting it to be as big as it was. We went to a special dinner with Food pairings with various Michael's products to taste. Excellent food and service with special dishes not on the regular menu. We started with Blue Crab Hush Puppies paired with Michener's Rye. The second course was aCRAWFISH & Chorizo Gumbo paired with Kentucky straight Bourbon. The third course was BBQ brisket Dumplings with a fried Green tomato paired with a sour mash. The next course was braised pork paired with Shenks limited edition sour mash. We finished with peanut butter cookies with banana gelato and a bacon marmalade paired Bombergers 108 proof Bourbon.
