One thing I really like about this place is the skewer was cook on a real charcoal burner. You can actually smell it on the skewer. The lamb skewers was great, full of flavors. This place is a nice hidden gem to go and try. It was kind of heard to find because there wasn't any English on the outside, so I wasn't sure, but maybe that just shows how authentic it is. Just look for the sign with all the fire on it. Don't worry, the menus and everything inside are in English. The prices are very reasonable and you can eat pretty well even on a budget. They have other dishes as well, but the reason I came here was for the skewers. There was a great selection to choose from and something for everyone. So if you're not too adventurous, you can still find something a bit easier for you to eat. They have lamb, chicken, beef, shrimp, and everything from meat chunks, to fat chunks, to gizzards and such as well. They even have a good selection of food for vegetarians and vegans. In fact, their enoki mushrooms were awesome. I was very surprised by the beef tendon. It ended up not being chewy at all and being thick and rich and almost melted in your mouth. Just be careful cause it is a bit heavy and hard to eat to much of, maybe just get one. The chicken was alright, the beef was alright, but my favorites besides the mushrooms and tendon were the shrimp and the lamb. The shrimp was crunchy and and had a good amount of flavor thanks to the spice on it. By far the best tasting meat here was the lamb. It was flavored the best, and was easy to eat. The one thing I don't like about meat like this is when you get piece in your mouth and have to chew on it for a few minutes before you can swallow it or else you'll choke. Most of the ones I tried were good at this not being the case. Some had a bit of chew, but the lamb was the most tender and easiest to chew. By far one of my favorites. I'll have to go back and try some of the other one's I didn't get to this time. Although if you're like me, you'll have a hard time getting full off of the skewers, so maybe order some rice on the side to help fill you up. Also, this place is a great late night spot that stays open till midnight and servers a good amount of alcohol, with cheap beer and also wine and sake, so you could have a good time just sitting here drinking and snacking on skewers. While I found the food rather tasty and enjoyable I was not satisfied with the accuracy of my take-out order nor the lack of customer service when I called to report my missing order. Regardless of the fact that I did not speak Mandarin the person on the phone should have had the common sense of getting someone to help. This is America and if you want to live here you should learn to speak English. This is not the worse of it. Since the person didn't speak English nor did she speak Cantonese, she hung up on me. Me and my wife are on vacation in Houston this week. We saw this restaurant when we were traveling around Chinatown. This was a lucky find. The order a few different kinds of skewers all of them were delicious. Lamb skewers were amazing. They have cheap beer. We ordered several Tsingtao's. They are just $1.50. Was here last night with a group and had a great experience. The food is excellent and the staff very friendly. The skewers were all very good and I would highly recommend the squid and the mushrooms. The noodle dishes were also very good but the fried rice was not great. The restaurant is not great for large groups but they did manage to accommodate the 9 people that we had. A must try, for sure and will be part of my regular rotation. read more

I can't even get near Chinatown without stopping at this place. Even if I plan to eat elsewhere, I still drop in for some skewers as an appetizer or after-meal snack. I have eaten a few other items from their menu like fried rice and pork meatballs, but the only thing I've been back for are the lamb and beef skewers. Really? The skewer meats were gristly, fatty and tough. We even cant swallow. I don't know what kind of food they are. Northen food? Shanghai food? or Xin Jiang food?we also orderd the big plate chicken, how can it be sweet!!! I am not yelper, but really have to sign up to share my experiences. Good food. OK service. The lamp skewers are a little bland. BBQ vegetables are good. They use wood skewers. Cold dishes are just so so. There is a few selection of hot dishes, and are pretty decent. This place is great. Grab some lamb skewers and enjoy. Beer here is pretty cheap and rice is provided as well. I tried the enoki mushrooms and was pleasantly surprised as they were grilled and then covered in a chili sauce. Will definitely be coming back in the future. read more

I wish they would branch out to other places like North Houston so it's closer to my house :P This restaurant has been on the 100 best restaurants in Houston, so if you're looking for some authentic Chinese food (which is waAaaaay better than the so-called Chinese food...) this is the place to go to! I highly recommend trying their lamb, beef, squid, shrimp, gizzards, chicken heart skewers! Also, if you're not up for some spicy food, just ask them to slow down on the spices and they'd be glad to do it for you! More recommendations: Meatballs (the bomb!) If you want lamb kabobs, there are only two places in town (that I know) where you can get them. I have heard good things about Dong Bei but that is not where lamb kabobs originate from, so I still need to try that restaurant. Anyways, this is the one I found when I first got to Houston. For those who are not familiar with the word "Xin Jiang", it's the providence that is known for its muslim populations...and the make a mean lamb kabob. This place looks normal, no fancy decorations whatsoever. The food is good enough. I've had better, but its lamb kabobs definitely have the right flavor. The big plate chicken is ordinary, and I say that because this is a signature dish in the region of China and it's supposed to be THE food second to the lamb kabobs. The hard boiled fish is good, but getting more and more plain every time I try it. Generally speaking, the food is very good. I just wish they up the amount of fish in this dish and improve the service of the restaurant. So far, they have been doing good enough, but you can tell they are not trying hard enough. Price of the beer is just right. Would have loved their food if its not too salty. Their skewers are really salty that we had to ask them not to put any seasoning on it otherwise it was like dipping skewers into a salt. They have this plate thats is not on the menu and it was really good but last time i had it, it was way too salty. Its nice and clean with televisions inside. Very cheap for grill food. Although all the skewers have the exact same taste, at least you can actually see them grilling behind. I had high hope for this place, but they let me down. I ordered to-go dinner. The lamb BBQ was too dry, the salt water duck was really too salty, the BBQ squid was a tiny box for $8. The food quality and flavor was subpar and they are over-priced. (Cost me $70 for not much of food.) I don't think I would be going back again. read more
