HAIRS, yes, PLURAL, in my gelato. Different lengths, superfine, fine, medium and thick strands, etc. Yup, THAT many for me to observe. I'm terrified to think of how many I actually ingested without noticing. This is disgusting!! How is it possible to have not one hair but MANY and in a consumable product for sale no less?! We stopped by this gelato shop earlier this week and had a wonderful experience. The employees were super friendly and I got the impression the gelato restaurant was family owned. They make their gelato on site and have lots of flavours. They had a lot of dairy free flavours for me to choose from. I ended up purchasing the lime mint flavour (it was really good and refreshing) and the grapefruit flavour (it was both sour and sweet) and I was happy with my order. My boyfriend ordered the Chili chocolate flavour (it has a rich chocolate flavour and gives you a kick of spice at the end) and a baileys flavour I think. He really enjoyed both of his ice cream choices as well. Would I Return? Absolutely! The gelato was great and I love supporting small family run businesses. read more

Maybe it was the combination of a scorching day and craving for something sweet, but the sugar cone I got here today hit the spot perfectly. I got the pistachio (creamy, tasted like pistachio gelato should) and lemon (tangy, bright and refreshing). I really appreciated that they let you choose two flavours, and more importantly, that they give two scoops for one cone, allowing you to really enjoy both flavours fully. This quaint little shop at the corner of Mt. Pleasant and Hillsdale was the closest Gelato shop to where I was shopping and presently ice cream/gelato is a lifesaver. Lots of seating both inside and out; however, the outside has metal tables that was impossible to sit at in the midday sun (the reflection was blinding). Lots of interesting flavours of gelato to choose from. I opted for the 2 flavour cup and had a 50/50 experience. The raspberry flavour was bang on with real fruit pieces in it. It tasted like the raspberries I use to pick off the bush in my backyard. The vanilla Nutella on the other hand was tasteless. It had no more than a hint of hazelnut. Really friendly staff and the gelato is made on premises. It met my needs and I would definitely return in the future to try more of their fruit flavours. Delicious on a hot summer day. read more

Decided to try this place after seeing that they had a quite spacious patio. However, did not end up using it because it was way too hot and my gelato was already melting just moments after being served to me. The inside of the shop is very nice and clean. The male server was v knowledgeable of the flavours. However, the scoops are quite small (they use an ice cream scooper) not to mention the scoops I got were soft and already a bit melted (might have been a refridgerator issue or the temperatures were just not high enough). The gelato itself was not as flavourful as other spots, and OH with the prices, tax is not included yet! read more

Decent tasting gelato. Can't say I'm a connoisseur so when they say made on premises I will take their word for it. I had salted caramel (2* not a lot of flavour) coconut (3* it was ok and there were coconut bits) and lemon crispy cookie which totally tasted like these lemon cream cookies that my mom used to buy for us at the Chinese grocery store when I was a kid (4* for the nostalgia). Price was high. I attributed the pricing to the fact they make their own gelato but now yelpers are claiming it's fake gelato so I'm not so sure anymore. The medium cup is not that much bigger than a small at other places and cost is comparatively higher I believe. Weird thing was the place smelled like bad BO when we were there. Don't know if it was in the air or from the staff or from a previous customer. We had to leave because of the smell. read more

I used to work in a gelato shop and this place brought back a lot of memories! I definitely enjoyed my visit, but didn't find it to be out-of-this-world. The inside has a lot of seating, two full display cases of flavours, and is very clean. The raspberry flavour here is really refreshing on a hot day, and the hazelnut tastes really creamy and nutty! Hazelnut is probably my favourite gelato flavour of all time, so if it's good here I imagine the other flavours will be too - but there's only one way to find out! read more

Location: Drove by Mt. Pleasant and Eglinton on a random Tuesday afternoon and noticed a gelato shop in the corner. Since it was 15 minutes to 4pm, I decided to take the plunge and get a quick bite before hitting the 4-6pm prohibited street parking mark. As soon as I walked in, there was a large selection (a whole 2 window caseful!) of gelato and sorbets to choose from. Just like any gelato/icecream shop you go to, samples are necessary! The staff was happy to serve me and was willing to let me try 4-5 different kinds even though there was also a man standing not too far from him right behind the cashier; I am guessing he's the owner. However, what I didn't like about this guy was that when I asked him which flavour most customers would order or the shop's signature flavour, he just said all of them or more specifically, he just named all the flavours out loud. After I had paid, the guy who gave me a sample told me to try the pistachio flavour and that it is really good. Why didn't you mention it to me earlier?!?! Food: I settled for a gelato cup ($4.75) which allowed you to have 2 scoops of 2 different flavours. I chose Bailey's and Lime and mint. The Bailey's was really good and yes, the alcohol tasted strong but it wasn't creamy enough. It was kind of liquidy and watery. The lime and mint was alright; I was never really into sorbets anyway but wanted to try the contrast. Overall, the gelato tasted just like any other places that I have been or perhaps even lower in standards. Or perhaps I chose the wrong flavours?! I have had better gelatos in my lifetime and so, I don't think I'll return. The shop also sells hot chocolate and other espresso drinks, but they were too special in my opinion. They also have a case of creme brulee (which looked absolutely UNappetizing as the custards were peeling off the ramekins) and some cannolis (which also looked very UNappetizing! Not sure how long they were in the fridge for). It was also sad to see NO one in the shop when I was there. read more

The flavours of the gelato is beyond delicious, with quite a nice variety of options. However, on my most recent experience, the gelato was way too soft, almost dripping. I've had soft serve that held-up better. When it's too soft, you just don't savour and enjoy it as much. Anyhow, don't expect a "Hello", "Thank you", or "Bye". The proprietor is strictly there to get your ice cream and ring up the sale. Don't expect charming or polite repartee, as his personality is not much better than wet bread. Oh well, at least the flavours are tasty. read more

Decent but not amazing gelato. The flavors are pretty accurate to their description but the servings are on the pricier side. The Tiramisu gelato was the most memorable for myself. Bonus that they were open late so they can be a good option if you want a cold dessert and are in the area. read more

Xo gelato has replace the former gelato establishment which was a stable in the area for over ten years. I visited xo gelato for the first time a few days ago and ordered four different scopes of ice cream in a large cup. To my great disappointed the ice cream was so bad that I threw it out after the first few mouth fulls. What a disappointment! The quality of the product is completely missing. The former establishment use to make the best italian gelato in town, I'm afraid this place is a poor non authentic gelato place with none of the original gelato flavors and just plan bad ice cream with horrible artifical flavors. read more

Things are just not the same under new ownership... We used to love coming here as a family but the last few visits since it's become XO Gelato it just isn't the same unfortunately. The portions have definitely become tiny compared to what they used to be. :( read more

My family had been loyal customers to the previous gelato establishment that used to be at this location, but after returning from a 2 week trip to Italy where we ate some fantastic gelato once to twice a day, we were hoping to have some good authentic gelato back home. Boy were we majorly disappointed to find they had changed owners here. We did a food tour in Italy and learned that signs of fake gelato includes trays with mountain high size gelato (lots of air whipped in) and overly bright colors (look for pistacchio, banana, mint and vanilla they should not be glowing in color). Also if the store signs are showing "gelato made on premise" I find that is usually a warning sign as well. The worse was the taste here, we tried 4 flavours and they were all horrible (mango didn't taste like mango at all). My 8 year old daughter wanted to throw hers out, imagine a kid wanting to discard her ice cream! Needless to say, anyone who is giving this new place a good review about their "ice cream" clearly doesn't know what gelato (or even decent ice cream) is supposed to taste like. read more

This place has great gelato, but under new ownership (since it became XO Gelato), the servings have become substantially smaller. They use small ice cream scoops that aren't even full instead of the gelato spatula, and the serving sizes are now a fraction of what it used to be for the same price! What's worse is that the new owner watches the workers like a hawk to make sure they don't fill the cup or cone. It really sours the experience. read more

Horrible management. On a sunny long weekend they only had one employee working. She was run off her feet while the manager stood there and watched. He would occasionally come out of his hiding place to ring in an order. Someone behind me in the line started to complain and he starts serving them instead of me even though I was first.
