As a paying customer of Roddy's services, I believe I owe it to other potential consumers to let them know about a potential experience they might encounter, both good and bad, so that they can make a more informed decision moving forward. We contacted Roddy in Dec 2017 after researching possibilities of event staff online for our June wedding event. Roddy sounded extremely knowledgeable, experienced and confident with what he could provide to meet our needs: coordinated the timing of different food and beverage stations including appetizer, main, and dessert as well as cleanup of rented dishes, where transitions and timing were key to make things run smoothly. 4 workers from 4-9pm was suggested as sufficient. All payment was required and submitted previous to event. We agreed to meet in May 2017 to see the space and discuss layout, finer details and modifications. During this meeting, again, Roddy was confident, gave suggestions, and assured us that things could be done and did warn that timing between appetizer and main dinner would be tight, so we were able to plan a buffer just in case. Once we met in May, it also seemed that meeting the day before when everything was truly set up would be ideal. We were reminded that it would be another $75 per visit. In actuality, Roddy's visit wasn't for us, it was really so that he could lead his team to be confident and aware enough to deliver the level of service we agreed to. Roddy, without the extra visit, assured us that he was capable of doing the work we agreed to confidently. Before the actual event, I sent detailed notes via Google Drive so the recipes of our drink stations and other details we discussed could become even more familiar. On the actual even day, I will say, we got wonderful compliments to the entirety of the event, which does speak to Roddy and his staff's execution of many of the deliverables. However, there are bigger points that I do believe that consumers should be aware of: -Roddy's entire team of 4 did not all show up on time at the venue -Days before the event, Roddy was unreachable/barely responsive to talk through details with our event coordinator and myself, even on the phone and seemed unaware of some of the details according to the event coordinator. -Roddy seemed to not know anything about the notes sent previously and did not know how to navigate them printed out at the venue -Our beverages, which had detailed scaled recipes for lemonade and iced tea, were not followed and thus didn't taste good and were not consumed as much as they could have by our guests. -Lastly, Roddy and team arrived so under prepared that they asked the groom, who was getting married in an hour, questions about the notes and how to proceed, consuming him so much that he wasn't able to attend to other key details necessary for an extra smooth wedding for us -I will reiterate, that to a guests eye, things went really well. However, I feel that the under preparation, unresponsiveness leading up to the event and involving of the groom are absolutely unacceptable to the point that other consumers should be warned. It should also be noted that we did reach out to Roddy with concerns following the event with no response, explanation, or apology. read more

BUYER BEWARE! Very disappointed with the service that we didn't even receive! We found Roddy through Thumbtack. I should've gone with my gut when he couldn't make it to our first meeting, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. After meeting him we hired him at the end of November last year, for our June 10th, 2017 wedding. Roddy agreed to come to a walk through one month before the wedding, but when the time came he did not show up. After that day, we tried calling and texting him but he did not respond. It was not until five days after the missed appointment until we heard back, this was when I decided to email him to cancel his services (three weeks before our wedding). Roddy apologized for the inconvenience, NOT for his unprofessional behavior, claiming that he was too busy to respond to us. When I tried to get my refund back, he threatened to have his "attorney" sue me because we canceled too late. Email chain below for proof. I believe I was right to ask for a refund because you did not do anything on your end to help ensure any confidence in you. On your Thumbtack page you state, "On Site, Pre-Event Walk-through: Xpress Waiters gives you the added value service of providing pre-event visits at your site or event location to ensure a confidence in you that we have a clear idea of your vision and details for an absolutely successful event." This did not happen when you were scheduled to meet with Michael on a day and time we agreed upon. How or why you missed the appointment was not our fault. You, as the contracted party with what you claim is 6 years of experience, should be able to make scheduled appointments and plan ahead. For the deposit we paid, you did not provide us the kind of service that is remotely worth $370. Since you could not make the walk through, and refused to return our calls for five days, we were under the impression that you left us high and dry. As a paying customer, I would have expected you to at least check in with us via text, email, or phone - but you chose not to respond for five days after the missed appointment. That is quite simply a bad business practice, even if you were busy with back to back events. You did not show us the kind of respect that you should show a paying customer. Furthermore, after we tried to cancel your services, you did not offer any mediation--especially since our actions were a direct result of your inaction. You apologized for the inconvenience, even though you should have really apologized for your unprofessional behavior. This unprofessional behavior was made even more clear with your threat of using your "Attorney David Wells" to sue me. All of this has been a really disappointing experience. We used BlueFire Events for lighting for a large, outdoor holiday celebration on our Campus. They came out immediately to make recommendations for lighting and sent the quote in a timely manner. The day of the event, they arrived when they said they would and set up their lighting fixtures while working around other vendors and our staff who were also setting up. They were efficient and polite. They paid careful attention to safety as I had warned them that it gets very windy in our location in the afternoon/evening. They heeded my warning and made sure the fixtures were very stable. All the lighting worked perfectly throughout the evening and their on-site staff even offered to help us with other setup needs that weren't related to their lighting. I booked bartender service for a baby shower I was hosting over a month in advance through Roddy Diaz. I was a returning customer and the booking seemed no-stress.... I emailed him 8 days prior to the event to confirm the booking and provide payment info (he never called me for this) and never received a response. At that point, I tried to call only to find that there phone number had been disconnected. Finally, after several attempts to reach Roddy, I received an email notifying me the night before the event that he had cancelled my booking WITHOUT NOTIFICATION OR ANY COMMUNICATION. He left me high and dry for the event. Recently, we faced almost near disaster when the original DJ we planned to use for my daughter's Quinceanera cancelled almost at the last minute. After several phone calls and no results, my eldest daughter posted a request on Thumbtack. Roddy Diaz of BlueFire Events responded immediately.
