First time at this spot, and when i drove up i was surprised by the location in this strip mall, and as soon you come in you are met with a very cute Japanese decor and the soft and relaxing music as if you just entered an Asian themed spa. Starter - the miso soup wasa nice portion and very flavorful, highly recommend and I also had a shrimp and Vegatable Tempura dish that was fried to perfection. Delicious food, Great Low Prices [Glen Burnie MD] After a long day in DC we returned to Baltimore where we were currently staying and found this gem of a restaurant from searching Yelp. It was pretty slow on a Sunday evening and the restaurant just had one other party dining when we arrived around 6:00p but it started to fill up around the time we finished. The menu had a lot to offer with an extensive selection of sushi and specialty rolls. We went for their entrees and noddles and ordered Shrimp Tempura appetizer (assorted shrimp and vegetable), Steak Teriyaki (including white rice, miso soup, house salad), Shrimp Tempura Udon, and for dessert we shared a Fried Banana with Ice cream. I really enjoyed how many locations Yama has spread around Baltimore and surrounding suburbs. I find their rolls to be incredibly affordable! Although, sushi at Yama is very different than in SoCal, as the imitation crab is still in stick form and not mixed together with mayo like they would on the West Coast. Came in to Yama to mix it up a little from our usual local sushi restaurant. The atmosphere was quiet on a rainy Saturday evening which suited us just fine. The specialty rolls selection on the menu is a little smaller than what we're used to but we were able to find some tasty choices. We ordered the Philly roll, Caterpillar roll (tempura shrimp avocado), chef special roll, and an eel roll. Our favorites were the eel roll and Caterpillar roll. Our bill came out to about $45 after tax (before tip) for two special rolls and two basic rolls, which is reasonable and average for the area. Service was efficient with our water glasses topped off and we received our rolls quickly. No complaints here! read more

However, today I am reviewing them because the sushi that I ordered from Uber eats was 10 stars! Today I landed on the Hollywood roll, and the pearl roll. Both were fantastic well crafted and delicious. I don't eat sushi often anymore as it is very expensive and a few bites later you're done and even more so an hour later you are hungry again. However, today it's rainy and I decided to treat myself doubly with sushi and Uber eats. I am so glad that I did. My sushi was just what I needed and it hit the spot. Quite literally the worst sushi I've ever had. I haven't tried any other sushi places around here, but I recommend you go literally anywhere else, including Giant, Weis, etc. for their prepackaged sushi. Although I went here Jan 13 and am now writing this in May, I seriously doubt anything has changed since then and I remember this quite vividly. I'll start with the worst part: the attached picture shows a fish bone I pulled out of my mouth. Besides the bone, I could tell from the appearance and texture that they use poor quality fish; it is NOT sushi grade. I ordered tako for my appetizer; it's my favorite starter and those little octopus guys sitting on seaweed always make me smile. The tako here did not make me smile. It was charred, in a weird sauce I didn't expect, and served warm on iceberg lettuce. I was flabbergasted! Tako has been served on seaweed salad at every other sushi place I've ever been to. That was red flag number one. When we got our sushi, they brought out a plate that we did not order, which I suspected was a "free roll". Red flag number two. This was confirmed when we got the check--it was listed as such. I took it to go but threw it away because I was disgusted. Any restaurant giving out free food clearly cannot compete on quality and is hoping quantity will get customers back in the door. The waitress was not attentive and was talking constantly--seemingly to no one, but probably to someone in her earbuds--even while at the table serving our food. There was a long wait between appetizers and main course, and a longer wait for the check. The only nice thing I can say about this place is that the decor was really cute. I will not go back, and I think this place will be out of business within the next few years. The free roll alone says it all. read more

Yama was stop three on our AACo sushi exploration mission, in which we are trying to find out new 'go-to' sushi spot. Yama has a very extensive menu, with varying prices ranging from affordable basic rolls to mid-priced specialty rolls and tasting sounding but over-priced specialty rolls. We were pleasantly surprised to see they offered a Lunch Box special, in which we could get three basic rolls, salad, and miso soup, so we each ordered a Lunch Box! (Note: their online ordering system was a bit frustrating to navigate- you couldn't see the listing of what was in each roll, so we had to go back and forth between the online system & the website menu a lot. Then if we wanted to press a back button to re-review other menu options it made us start over every time.) Lunch Box 1: California Roll, Super Duper Roll, and a Crazy Stone Roll Lunch Box 2: Spicy Shrimp, Spicy Tuna, and a Volcano Roll Overall, the rolls were very delicious; fresh ingredients packed inside, they did not skimp! Salads were a nice size and the miso soup had great flavor as they provided lots of chunks of tofu and veggies. I have to eat cooked rolls due to pregnancy-which was terrible sad when ordering, but the Crazy Stone fried eel and salmon was such a delicious taste I wasn't sad while eating. I loved the sauce on the eel & salmon, giving a kick to the yum. The Super Duper Roll was very heavy, I'd probably never order it again- just cooked tuna fried inside rice. I peeled off most of the fried breading, and the roll was still heavy to eat. The Volcano had a nice fried taste without being overpowering, they got the balance right compared to the super duper! We also ordered a Christmas Roll, a Yankee Roll, & the restaurant threw in a free Hollywood Roll. These rolls were amazing! The Christmas had a MASSIVE amount of seaweed salad on top, this made me so happy as I was able to steal some creating my own mini appetizer without ruining hubby's roll haha. The Yankee roll combination of flavors was quite delectable- The Hollywood Roll had the yummy California Roll as a base, topped with loads of shredded crab stick & a specialty sauce. Everything was so packed with ingredients & such bold tastes, we ended up easily splitting our food into two meals. They have definitely made a go-to lunch list; I look forward to exploring their menu. So I came in just for a snack and was seated right away. I opted for the sushi bar. Unfortunately, the miso soup tasted like water. I wish they made it from scratch. It's not even hard to do. But I must say the spicy tuna roll is amazing and they have the coolest Sake bottle. At first I was upset I didn't get to see the bottle it came in but I love how the one they use has a spot for ice that won't dilute the flavor and maintains the temperature at the same time. Now this was a spontaneous find. I was craving sushi one random day and googled best sushi spots near me. At first glance I thought the interior and decor were pretty cute. The art on the walls and mural were nice touches. The service was pretty quick and efficient. I wanted to order something different. Broken down, I enjoyed these deep fried scallops topped with spicy salmon and fish eggs; truly 10/10. I just love when I stumble across a place with great sushi! I'm not going to lie, didn't have high hopes for finding quality sushi in this area. This would be my last meal of 2018, so it needed to be worth it! I saw this place had pretty good reviews, so despite my reservations, we went for it. Tucked away in a pretty bland shopping center, Yama turns about to be a true gem. We went in on NYE around 8:30pm. There were a few people there, but it was very, very quiet and a little depressing at first. The other guest seemed so somber. We were greeted and sat right away. Service was prompt and they really know how to treat you. We got two free samples of cucumber salad, a free chef special roll, and two bite sized samples of cheesecake! We felt special. The house roll really caught us by surprise, we ordered 4 rolls but noticed our platter looked humungous! The special roll list is some 30 rolls long! The prices are average and commensurate with the size of the rolls. Service is great, along with customer service. My only ding is, while there are tons of rolls to choose from, they didn't seem to vary much in ingredients. Many of the rolls; although different names, had nearly identical make ups, maybe with the exception of a small garnish. They should either consolidate the menu or get a little more creative with rolls. More doesn't always mean better! I will definitely be back here when I'm in the area. The chirashi here is to die for!! There is generous amount and variety of fish and it tastes very fresh. The raw macharels in the chirashi were my favorite! And the sushi rice in chirashi is seasoned so well! It really compliments the flavors of the fish. Each sushi dinnner and chirashi comes with a side of miso soup and salad. Another notable mention is the lemon beer they sell in the restaurant. It tasted so fresh! A great compliment to the meal. I know that take-out is not a great way to judge a restaurant but the fact that I was impressed with take out is very telling of the quality!
