The only reason I am giving three stars was because the staff was friendly and the presentation was impressive. However the sushi lacked flavor and texture. I even got a bright green wasabi which had zero flavor. The sushi chef saw my confusion and then he asked would I like real wasabi. I have never been asked that before. I will not be back.

We were in town visiting friends. She took us here for lunch. The food was good! The staff was even better! Since we were visiting and in no hurry, it was nice that they kept our drinks full and allowed us to visit without making us feel bad! After leaving a healthy tip, we sincerely thanked them for allowing us the time together! This is a local gem ran by diamonds for people! Most Sincerely!

Thanks to yelp I tried this out of the way Japanese place located in a nondescript strip mall and had a great meal. Ambiance was classic with a small but adequate bar area for the up close prep experience. I went with my go to choice of a sushi-sashimi platter when I get a sense the place is the real deal, and Matsu did not disappoint! After a chef surprise, which was a delicious ball of avocado and seafood, followed by the standard miso soup and salad .... Out came one of the nicest looking platters I've ever seen. All the sushi and sashimi was fresh, delicious and well prepared. This is definitely a place worth trying if you were in the area.

Stopped in when I was passing through town for a work trip and...WOW! Such a great dining experience! The food was all so fresh, and came out quickly. The miso soup was some of the best that I've had - and the prices for the quality of food was super fair. Everything came out plated and presented so nicely! Service was great, and there was never a moment we needed anything and went unnoticed. The interior is AWESOME, and catches you by surprise as you walk in. A great place to stop in for a great dinner.

TIP: Dine in and enjoy a wholesome Japanese meal or order take out. I prefer to dine in and soak up the restaurant vibe along with the food. First off, the thought process and execution of the menu is amazing. It certainly costs a pretty penny to curate a menu Matsu offers. It is very detail oriented, full of pictures of items on the menu, and the top of the menu pages are labeled to guide you along the way. Lastly, it's a hard cover menu. Frankly, the menu is better than some high end restaurants in downtown cities. ORDER: * Fancy Tuna * This appetizer reminded me of poke. It was diced ice-cut tuna and avocado dressed with delicious sesame soy sauce. It has bits of spinach salad. * Iburi Sake( Smoked Salmon * Two delicious sushi smoked salmon pieces. The salmon was perfect. * Sake (Salmon) * Sticking with the salmon, another two tasty salmon sushi. * Shrimp Tempura Roll * Freshly fried shrimp tempura with avocado in rice and seaweed. The eel sauce drizzled all over the sushi always jazzes up sushi. * House Nabe Udon (or Soba) Noodle Soup * This soup on a cold winter day was perfect. This soup has noodles your choice of udon or sobs (I went with udon) and a mix of seafood; fish, shrimp, scallops, crabmeat; veggies, accompanied with a fried egg. This soup was tasty. Note: This is for a seafood lover. This entree came with house salad which was great. * Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura * Perfectly golden fries shrimp and veggies tempura. This entree came with steamed white rice, house salad and miso soup. SERVICE: Excellent LOCATION/FACILITY: End of a business plaza PARKING: Free shares parking lot SEATING: Indoor; bar PAYMENT METHOD: Cash, card Overall this restaurant is the first Japanese restaurant that was legitimately amazing. The food was great, the menu was detailed and there is a huge variety of items to try. We will definitely be back - this is marked my favorite Japanese restaurant.

I was super disappointed by their chirashi and salmon spicy roll. The fish was not fresh but rather a but mushy and tasteless. I picked it up and would have thrown it out but then I would have had to go out and get something else. What a total bummer. It looks nice but unfortunately it tasted pretty terrible!

    Exterior. Great use of space.

This place has one heck of an atmosphere! Walls are decorated to make the place look as Japanese as possible. TV was on, playing a Japanese TV network. The restaurant had a visible food preparation area where the sushi chefs enthusiastically did their work. Restaurant did not pinch pennies on the waiters' and chefs' uniforms. The restaurant is on the corner of a row of several adjacent buildings and I liked their use of their window space. Once you open the door, the entrance is well-decorated, too. The podium the host stands behind is oddly situated, but they are making their best use of a small space, so no points taken off. The restroom was clean. I ordered escolar, toro, orata, and chicken katsu. All more than acceptable quality. I did not like the katsu sauce, but I think that's just a personal preference matter. They threw in some extra food- tuna in a circular configuration with some other elements I couldn't figure out- which I guess worked, since I'm here, writing this five-star review! Plates were high-quality, and designed to make the food more presentable.

Sushi / sashimi combo. Great presentation

Amazing authentic Japanese sushi! Presentation, ambience, service. Absolutely reasonable price for the quality. A great find near the airport hotels

Traveling from out of town and I stopped by this place with my colleague. We both had the bento box with Katsu and sashimi. The food tasted fresh and delicious. I will definitely add this place to my list for when I come back to visit. Also, very friendly staff. Welcoming and funny!! Thank you for the good food and service. Ps: pardon the bad picture, I was very hungry and excited to eat.

    Just a pile of deliciousness!

They do have a happy hour on Monday to Friday from 4 PM to 6:30 PM. This includes certain rolls and appetizers, beer, wine, and cocktails. I had the lychee Saketini (HH $8), and it definitely had lychee flavor. It was a little lighter on the alcohol though. I also had a 22 oz. can of Sapporo premium beer, which was also on happy hour for $7.50. Both the bagel roll and California roll were $6 on happy hour as well. I highly recommend the Volcano Roll (HH $12), which had 6 pieces of salmon and tuna top with a spicy mayo and eel sauce. We initially sat outside, but once it started raining, they helped us bring everything inside. The hostess was very kind and our server was excellent. In terms of the ambiance, there is not much indoor and outdoor seating. It seems like they mainly do take out. Also, street parking can be limited.

Ordered the Poke bowl and grabbed a Taro Milk drink prepackaged without ice and while waiting the menu called me to sit and enjoy an imperial roll and y'all that thang was everything, banging. . Flavor was everything. Gave me a moment to slow down on travel for a moment. I haven't eaten the Poke bowl yet, my original plans have changed and it will now go to Detroit, maybe I still have an hour. The service was right on point. Yelp Review 2026 #185:…read more I normally wouldn't trust airport sushi unless I'm in Japan. But I really wanted sushi after eating all sorts of Jamaican food during my vacation. BWI has two Gachi locations: one near B5, and one near A8. This one is near A8. After a terrible experience at another airport restaurant, I decided to grab food from here. At first, I wasn't sure if I went to the sit down restaurant or the grab and go. Both locations have tables and chairs and near other eateries. They both have grab and go food. So, at first, I grabbed two trays of sushi. As I was about to pay, I noticed a menu in front of the cashier so, I had to ask if they had actual fresh made-to-order sushi. And they did and I was told to grab a table and somebody will take my order. I put the sushi trays back. There's only one server and she was hiding behind the sushi counter. She seemed really shy. I waited patiently for her to take my order, give me water, etc. I only had 40 minutes left on my 2-hour layover and I still had to make it to the B gates to board. Sake Oshi Sushi: Pressed sushi with torched salmon, miso sauce, sushi rice, pickled ginger, jalapeno, and tempura crunch. The layer of rice is too thick. I had to eat the fish on top and skip the rice on a few pieces because it was just too much. This was on the sweet side and I'm not a fan of sweet sushi. The jalapeño slices still had seeds. 2.5/5 Salmon Nigiri: The quality of the fish was surprisingly good. The rice was compact and stayed intact. It was time to pay and the server was nowhere to be found and I had to leave. So, I just paid at the counter.
