    Spicy Ahi Hand roll

The gyoza ramen was very good. The broth very tasty and noodles had a very good texture and very good taste. Service is very good and quick. The environment was nice and casual. Sushi was also very good and the handrolls was very big.

Best sushi on the BI! Fish was fresh, service was quick and food was amazing. We ordered hamachi jalapeno, fried oysters, clam soup and shrimp tempura to start. Ponzu sauce for the hamachi jalapeno was well balanced without being overpowering. Hamachi was fresh and sweet. Fried oysters were plump and juicy. Shrimp tempura was crispy but not oily. Clam soup- amazing- fresh clams (tender) with soft pieces of tofu. We ordered several rolls, chirashi and soufflés for dessert. All delicious- big slices of sashimi, more fish than rice on the rolls and the soufflés were beautiful and delicious.

Cozy new strip mall sushi place is serving a fresh variety of sushi and kitchen dishes. We loved the variety of rolls, unagi, appetizers and entrees. Fresh and fairly fast food. Smiling service. No alcohol. No bathroom but get the code to use the ones in the strip mall. Large menu so check out all the pages. Surprise lobster and pasta dish for $30.00 on final page

We heard through coconut wireless that there was a new sushi spot in town. We did some research and found Sushi Yama had just opened next to KTA. The staff were so nice and welcoming. Because we stopped in on our way home from the beach we opted to order several dishes to take home to share with our family. I liked everything. especially the Volcano Don. The runny yolk with the sauce was just a great combo. I also liked the Mongoose Roll. The tempura batter was very light and not greasy. The fish was fresh and good quality. This is a nice option for sushi and we plan to return often.

We stopped here per our neighbor's recommendation. We ordered the Golden Gate Bridge which comes in a really ornate dish and awesome presentation! We love nigiri and sashimi, and I felt that Yama Sushi offers very tasty rolls. The rainbow rolls were tasty. Also the fried oyster appetizer was crunchy outside and fresh oyster inside, and it was very good. Bento seems to be a good deal and popular. We'll have to try more dishes here.

We had dinner at Yama last night. I had made a Yelp reservation but I am not sure those mean much in such a small place. The overall experience was good. There were a few hiccups in the service and execution, but the sushi was yummy. We had to ask for small plates for our shared gyoza appetizer. The young server was very busy & she brought us cold green tea at first, but replaced it quickly with the hot green tea we had ordered. We ordered miso soup, the gyoza, and three of their maki tools. Highest points go to the sushi for taste and also for presentation. It is a newly opened place and they are very eager to please.

Small restaurant with a few tables inside only. Was pretty full even on a random time of the day. Ordered a few items. The sashimi and rolls tasted fresh. The amaebi was a bit fishy, but the ikura and other sashimi were not fishy. Service was pretty quick and friendly. Parking is available throughout the plaza, so it is very close to the restaurant. My family said the roasted duck was delicious also. Miso soup was definitely on the salty side. The vegetable curry was less salty, but only because we requested for less salty.

We went to this place because it had 5 stars but I'm wondering how that happened...? We love Japanese food and I've grown up on it, however this was not giving authentic. Sorry. First I have to say the salmon nigiri was good. But the spicy tuna roll was a mess and the sauce had a lot of liquid which I've never seen. The Teri beef bento had way too much sauce on the beef and it was drowning in sweetness. The fried chicken taste was good but it was so greasy that myself, my daughter and my mom couldn't eat more than one piece. The batter held onto the all the oil. If I was on the mainland and was dying for some rice this place would have done the job okay but here in Kona I'll be sticking with the authentic stuff at Shiono and Sushi Sam from now on! The staff was super attentive which is great but the waitress was so sick she was blowing her nose and spitting out phlegm into a napkin behind the counter...

Yama sushi seems to be highly rated in the Kona area so I figured to take my family there on our first night of the vacation. The restaurant is not big but has enough tables to avoid a wait and is relatively clean. The staffs are very friendly and attentive. The food though is just ok. It is not bad but I didn't think it is 5 star good even putting the $$ into consideration. We ordered many items but none of them stood out to me so I believe a 3.5 - 4 star is appropriate so I rounded it up due to the good service. The sushi rolls are decent and the fried rice is ok. I wish they used overnight rice or use a hotter wok to stir fried. The fried chicken is not very good. The batter is thick and I can barely taste the chicken. My daughter also ordered the Ramen and she didn't really enjoyed it. I tasted the broth and it does lack a little flavor. Maybe I was expecting too much since I saw a 5 star. If I return to the big island next time, I'll try somewhere else.

    So beautiful and delicious!

My favorite new sushi in Kona!! It's seriously the best every time I go. I almost don't want to leave a review because I don't want to secret to get out Generous portions, very friendly staff, and the homemade tiramisu... OHHH MYYY GAWWWWD! Go, you will not be disappointed!

We had to come back for a second time after watching the sunset. We get plenty of Salmon in our area and I really enjoyed what I had before, the Volcano Roll and my husband had a Bento Box. I ordered The Volcano Roll and it was great in flavors and presentation like before.

We had a wonderful dinner. I am often very particular about where to go for dinner here in Kona. The sizzling Steak and Shrimp platter was so flavorful and delicious. My friend had the Rainbow Don and again flavorful and fresh. We were offered a new dessert option and it was a delicious end to our meal.

Best place to go for lunch, cheaper and good quality, surprise it has few customers, a

There isn't a whole lot of seating inside, but we came early so there wasn't any difficulty getting a table. There are fans inside but no A/C, so it wasn't remarkably cooler inside than it was outside but still much nicer than being out in the sun. The waitress gave us a menu and also showed us some specials that were written on a whiteboard in the store. I thought the prices were incredibly fair and would have ordered more food if I was hungrier, but I ended up getting their special rice bowl and my husband ordered a tempura udon. The service was fairly quick and we got some ice water at the dispenser at the front of the store, which was very refreshing. The tempura udon my husband had very flavorful broth and the shrimp tempura was nice and juicy inside. My rice bowl was very substantial and was quick to fill me up. The fish was incredibly fresh, the rice nice and fluffy, and the green onions and seaweed salad were refreshing. The wasabi added a good kick and the ginger was a wonderful palate cleanser in between bites. I had such a lovely time here and the entire kitchen staff bid us goodbye when we left. I would love to come back another time when I have the chance!

Best omakase deal ever! What an incredible meal…read more Here are the 8 dishes we got from the omakase: Mustard greens with ponzu - best ponzu ever!!! We were drinking it at the end. Loved the flavors of the mustard greens, katsuo and nori flakes. 5 stars! Agedashi tofu - nice light crispy battered soft tofu pieces in a slightly sweet dashi. We ordered a larger serving for our kiddo and he smashed it. 5 stars. Miso soup - wonderful katsuo flavor in the soup highlighted by the mitsuba. So tasty. 5 stars. Tempura - perfect pieces of asparagus, carrot, eggplant mushroom, and shrimp. Not super oily and perfectly cooked. 5 stars! Sashimi - we dove into this so quick I didn't get a pic, but there were 2-3 pieces each of hamachi, mackerel, kanpachi and tuna. I usually don't like mackerel but I scarfed up this one! Absolutely perfect. 5++ stars. Hand roll - missed the pic here too since we were so excited to have ootoro in a hand roll!!! It had the makings of a spicy tuna but with the extra special ootoro. Fish was all the way to the bottom of the roll too! Sushi excellence. 5++++ stars!!! Sushi - this was a WOWWWWW dish!! Two pieces of hamachi, ootoro, seared hotate and uni (from Japan) nigiri. We couldn't believe we were getting ootoro and uni. Everything was so fresh and unbelievably good. 5+++++ stars!!!! Dessert -This wasn't mentioned in the menu for the omakase so I think it was just a kind complimentary item. It was interesting since it was the strawberry part of a ice cream sandwich with some whipped cream and strawberries. Kiddo loved it! It's rare when you can get quality food at a good price. The online omakase menu description did not do justice to what was served. I wish I had made multiple reservations here!
