    Taro and coconut soufflé

Food was excellent! We tried a bunch of different sushi, clam soup, steak and shrimp plate, and their delicious soufflé. We had their blueberry soufflé and the taro/coconut soufflé. It was light and fluffy. Like eating a cloud. It was the perfect dessert to end our dinner. Service was amazing! All the ladies were kind, friendly, patient, and appreciative:) We'll definitely be back!

    So beautiful and delicious!

My favorite new sushi in Kona!! It's seriously the best every time I go. I almost don't want to leave a review because I don't want to secret to get out Generous portions, very friendly staff, and the homemade tiramisu... OHHH MYYY GAWWWWD! Go, you will not be disappointed!

Cozy new strip mall sushi place is serving a fresh variety of sushi and kitchen dishes. We loved the variety of rolls, unagi, appetizers and entrees. Fresh and fairly fast food. Smiling service. No alcohol. No bathroom but get the code to use the ones in the strip mall. Large menu so check out all the pages. Surprise lobster and pasta dish for $30.00 on final page

Small restaurant with a few tables inside only. Was pretty full even on a random time of the day. Ordered a few items. The sashimi and rolls tasted fresh. The amaebi was a bit fishy, but the ikura and other sashimi were not fishy. Service was pretty quick and friendly. Parking is available throughout the plaza, so it is very close to the restaurant. My family said the roasted duck was delicious also. Miso soup was definitely on the salty side. The vegetable curry was less salty, but only because we requested for less salty.

We stopped here per our neighbor's recommendation. We ordered the Golden Gate Bridge which comes in a really ornate dish and awesome presentation! We love nigiri and sashimi, and I felt that Yama Sushi offers very tasty rolls. The rainbow rolls were tasty. Also the fried oyster appetizer was crunchy outside and fresh oyster inside, and it was very good. Bento seems to be a good deal and popular. We'll have to try more dishes here.

We had dinner at Yama last night. I had made a Yelp reservation but I am not sure those mean much in such a small place. The overall experience was good. There were a few hiccups in the service and execution, but the sushi was yummy. We had to ask for small plates for our shared gyoza appetizer. The young server was very busy & she brought us cold green tea at first, but replaced it quickly with the hot green tea we had ordered. We ordered miso soup, the gyoza, and three of their maki tools. Highest points go to the sushi for taste and also for presentation. It is a newly opened place and they are very eager to please.

We heard through coconut wireless that there was a new sushi spot in town. We did some research and found Sushi Yama had just opened next to KTA. The staff were so nice and welcoming. Because we stopped in on our way home from the beach we opted to order several dishes to take home to share with our family. I liked everything. especially the Volcano Don. The runny yolk with the sauce was just a great combo. I also liked the Mongoose Roll. The tempura batter was very light and not greasy. The fish was fresh and good quality. This is a nice option for sushi and we plan to return often.

We had a wonderful dinner. I am often very particular about where to go for dinner here in Kona. The sizzling Steak and Shrimp platter was so flavorful and delicious. My friend had the Rainbow Don and again flavorful and fresh. We were offered a new dessert option and it was a delicious end to our meal.

We had to come back for a second time after watching the sunset. We get plenty of Salmon in our area and I really enjoyed what I had before, the Volcano Roll and my husband had a Bento Box. I ordered The Volcano Roll and it was great in flavors and presentation like before.

    Karaage bento box

super yummy! We got the karaage bento box, spider roll, California roll and spicy tuna. Their mango souffle was amazingggg

This is our second time coming here, I forgot to make a review the fist time. So here it goes. This place is AMAZING!! Their food is DELICIOUS and the presentation is AWESOME. Very nice/friendly people. I would highly recommend this place 100%

    Salmon skin appetizer

We were in town looking for a place to eat Japanese food and this place really the place to go in Kailua-Kona on the big island. My wife and I ordered the chirashi and it was the best portions we ever had even compared to Oahu Japanese restaurants where we are from. The cuts were thick and fresh not like most Japanese restaurants where the fish is thinly sliced. The price was comparable to most Japanese restaurants but their portions was better than most if not all comparable priced restaurants. The only drawback for us was they didn't serve alcohol and you know Sashimi goes best with a good beer or Sake. Other than that we were well pleased with the food and excellent service. This will be our go to place every time we're in town.

I had the best dinner since arriving at the Big Island! Amazing fresh sashimi platter to set the night right and SCALLOP Shooters!!! My mouth is still watering...yum..yum..yum. And when I thought it can't get any better...we hot a free salmon skin salad...OMG. Don't forget to get the crispy wings! Wow, forget the sauce. Perfectly crispy and juicy inside...not at all greasy and TASTY enough where you don't even need a sauce. Don't think twice. Just come and enjoy a slice of heaven in paradise!

We had leftovers that were great the next day for lunch as well. This is a popular place so be prepared. We ate inside not having a reservation but I'd suggest calling for a reservation outside. Also keep in mind that rents are high in Kona, it's a challenge to find people that can afford it and work in our restaurants, so be kind to them. Parking is also a challenge but patience and determination will get you there. Currently if you are a Costco member you can purchase gift cards for $80 that will get you $100 at the restaurant, so effectively a 20% discount. Those discount cards seem to rotate in and out at Costco so that will probably change. We've gotten two takeout dinners since then and it's a definite favorite of ours. Mahalo.

We also had the Matcha Shiratama Zenzai for dessert. It was awesome. Great combination of flavours. Everything is reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend it. Tenkatori bills itself as a Japanese style fried chicken, our only other choice in the food court was Mexican (Philippino place wasn't open) so we were open to try. Tenkatori did not disappoint-ordered bento chicken-one was tater tot bento, other was rice and chicken bento, with wasabi and yuzu sauces. Bento came with four softball sized pieces of boneless chicken thighs hot out of the fryer, so fresh and juicy, the juices were literally squirting out between bites. Dipped in the creamy wasabi sauce-great flavor without the head-numbing experience. Yuzu was also creamy, not acidic like lemon, just the real deal. Btw both sauces good with tater tots, but they give you ketchup too. Quite the find, in a quiet marketplace on a stormy Sunday Tenkatori lives up to its ratings. Will be back!

Hesitation was instilled once I realized it was part of a random food court kind of in the middle of nowhere but did not count it out completely. 3. Per chance, happen to swing by this food court per request of a family member in hopes of grabbing some Malasadas in the bakery nearby afterwards. 6. Realizing that we stumbled into the food court anyways, it was fated that we were meant to proceed with placing an order for some chicken. 7. After a short wait for food to be prepared, I'd confirm that the fried chicken is solid, tater tots were good as well, and the mac salad was just okay.

They have a TV showing historical clips of the Japanese immigrants who moved to Hawaii. We learned so much just dining there! The servers were very nice and friendly. They even offer free, hot green tea. It wasn't crowded when we went there for lunch. The server said we could order from the dinner menu too. The restaurant is decorated with a bunch of old family photos. It's not a fancy food location, but a place that is in the locals' hearts. Also, it's not standard Japanese American food, so don't come in looking for rolls and such! Instead, they serve fresh, perfectly prepared Japanese food with a Hawaiian twist, favorites like saimin and shrimp tempura. The large saimin ($16.17) was delicious and really hit the spot. Toppings were Spam, eggs, and veggies. Simple, but tasty! Shrimp tempura appetizer ($14.85) was a pretty large sized dish. The pieces have a lot of crunchy batter and the kids loved it. It was a bit greasy, but that's to be expected. DH got a Oyako Donburi with sashimi ($21.93). Wow, the sashimi was truly amazing! So tender, it just melts in your mouth. The eggs were cooked with bamboo pieces which kinda threw DH off. I liked them, but DH would've preferred it without. The flavor is sweet/salty and pretty mild. It came with miso soup and some pickles. Parking is right in the front and backs into the main road. It can be spicy getting out if traffic is heavy. They don't have a lot of bathrooms, so there might be a wait. Those are the downsides. Otherwise, a wonderful local place to eat!
