One of the few places open on New Year's Day. Wanted a decent meal before I flew out. I was able to get seated right away as got there at 5:30pm and was solo. Lot of big groups with families. The server was friendly but limited with his English so wasn't able to make any recommendations. I opted for the chirashi to start the new year with a healthy meal. It came with miso soup which I found salty. The salad was mediocre with a ranch dressing. I think the fish was frozen and not as fresh. Will have to come back for the cooked items or rolls as don't think they're known for sashimi

The food was very underwhelming and did not taste good at all. It filled the stomach but did not satisfy the taste buds. There are better places in the area and I wouldn't recommend visiting this establishment. Simply put... you get what you pay for.

Really enjoyed my meal here last night! Everything tasted fresh and flavors were great! Service was super nice and we didn't wait around too long for our meal. This place is tucked in a corner. Kind of hard to see. Inside was clean and nothing too fancy. My friend also got the chicken katsu and it was also really good! It's also BYOB so enjoyed that part too!

Walked in and tall man greeted us and seated us. Food was pretty good but the staff was the crazy part. We were the only people in the restaurant and there were about 4 staff members visible. Our waiter started to clean the store and sang Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance," on the top of his lungs while we ate and then when he noticed I had finished my plate he commented on how fast I ate...I then told him it was because I was hungry and it was all we had eaten that day and how it would be our dinner...interaction was weird but I always eat fast so I just shrugged it off. Also asked us if we needed forks when he gave us chopsticks and when we said "no thank you," he said "oh wow so you know how to use them?" Cause we are white. Lowkey racist but he was funny so it's fine. Definitely not what we were expecting but it was definitely something so if you want weird memories you and your friends can laugh about then this is the place. Giving this 5 stars for the laughs

We flew in on a late night flight and were looking for a place to grab a bite to eat. We found Sean's and saw that they were open late. Wonderful! The restaurant is located in a shopping strip mall and nothing fancy. We walked right in and they let us sit anywhere. The seats are really hard so don't flop down! The menu is pretty extensive and has a lot of options for everyone! The prices range anywhere from $12- $20 a roll and the appetizers are around $14. The weird thing is that they have a sign in the door that you are allowed to bring in your own beer! Love it! Good to know for another time but I was hoping for saki at least. We ordered about four different dishes: Poke Stuffed Jalepeno with tuna appetizer And two deep fried rolls. The cooked roll had melted cream cheese in it and the texture threw me off. The salmon was ok and the tuna in the second roll had a texture of cat food.... Sorry!!! I guess I'll stick to raw rolls next time! The Poke was delicious and definitely hit the spot for my Hawaiian poke urge!! Other than that... probably won't be back..

Food amazing !!! Staff and service 5 ! The place has lots of room for big crowds and also for nice private dining! Highly recommended if you are in Kona at the beach. You can have sushi and traditional Japanese food. The bento box is sooo big that I have no idea how big are the regular entrees I don't eat raw fish so I was pleasantly surprised at all my sushi options!

I was visiting Kona for a weekend, and my coworker recommended Sean's Kitchen for dinner. It was a rainy evening and I couldn't find the restaurant at first. Located in a strip mall in Kailua-Kona, the restaurant looks kinda dark from the exterior (I thought that it was closed). When I peeked in, the interior of the restaurant was dark (kinda like a sports bar), but it was definitely a sit-down restaurant, and there were a good amount of diners inside. I was expecting a local braddah (named Sean) cooking behind a counter and local sistahs waiting the tables. It was more like an L&L that was methodically run like a better Chinese restaurant. We were told to sit wherever we wanted, so we picked a booth further from the main entrance, and away from the service counter. Our server (a young girl, very polite) brought our waters and menus. I was surprised to see a variety of entrees to choose from and even sushi rolls. This place is kinda eclectic ---- local, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, American food choices. I ordered the 3 choice combo with chicken teriyaki, assorted tempura and California rolls. It looked like they had several cooks working in the kitchen, and our entrees came out quickly. I didn't expect the portions to be as generous as they were. I was definitely stuffed after finishing my entree. Haha. I was generally satisfied with the food and prices. If I don't feel like driving all the way out to Teshima's, I think that I'd go back to Sean's Kitchen if I'm staying in Kailua-Kona.

Hidden Gem in Kailua-Kona! If you're in Kailua-Kona and craving sushi, Sean's Kitchen is the spot. I honestly can't believe how amazing the food is at these prices -- it's almost too good to be true! The rolls are incredible -- fresh, flavorful, and beautifully made. Every bite tastes like something you'd expect from a high-end sushi bar, but without the high-end price tag. The quality is absolutely top-notch. The service? Spectacular. Friendly, fast, and super attentive without being overbearing. You can tell they care about the experience. The place is spotless, and everything runs smoothly. And here's a big bonus: you can bring your own alcohol with no corkage fee. That alone makes this place a winner for family's. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. Sean's Kitchen is easily one of the best finds in town -- high quality, super affordable, and genuinely welcoming. What more can you ask for? Bonus is that they are open late . You can also stop by the Westside Wine store right nextdoor and purchase a big selection of liquor , wine and beer . Lots of cold stuff on hand to bring with you to Sean's. We will be back .

Upon entering, we were informed to take any seat opened and so we did. Service was quick! The food was good, but it could have been greater! We love Hamachi, when we seen they served Hamachi Carpaccio we had to try, unfortunately the lemon was too overpowering. The salad could have used less of the dressing and more variety in greens or maybe even carrots. We loved the calamari, something wasn't right with the fried oysters though. Our main dishes were yummy! We were often checked up on and received water refills as well which was so nice!

Decent Japanese food in Kona. We stopped by earlier today for lunch and were seated right away. We ordered an assortment of our Japanese favorites - sushi, soup, bento box, etc. Food arrived quickly, except the seafood udon noodle soup, which took a while longer. We annihilated most of our food, as we were hungry after the long two hour drive over the saddle road from Hilo. My favorites were the salmon nigiri (oh so tender and fresh) and the crunchy California roll. Service was friendly and efficient. Clean toilets - outside the restaurant but close by. Parking is free and plentiful.

What a great Japanese restaurant with great service and delicious food. This small fantastic restaurant really got some great sushi and Japanese food My personal favorite was an appetizer called Dragon balls which is stuffed mushrooms with there unique twist . A lot of very good fresh dishes, sashimi, nigiri and every type a sushi roll you could think of. The service was top notch never had to ask for a refill and were ready to help serve with everything from explaining the dish's to getting my toddler occupied Will be coming back again

They have a TV showing historical clips of the Japanese immigrants who moved to Hawaii. We learned so much just dining there! The servers were very nice and friendly. The restaurant is decorated with a bunch of old family photos. It's not a fancy food location, but a place that is in the locals' hearts. Also, it's not standard Japanese American food, so don't come in looking for rolls and such! Instead, they serve fresh, perfectly prepared Japanese food with a Hawaiian twist, favorites like saimin and shrimp tempura. The large saimin ($16.17) was delicious and really hit the spot. Toppings were Spam, eggs, and veggies. Simple, but tasty! Shrimp tempura appetizer ($14.85) was a pretty large sized dish. The pieces have a lot of crunchy batter and the kids loved it. It was a bit greasy, but that's to be expected. DH got a Oyako Donburi with sashimi ($21.93). Wow, the sashimi was truly amazing! So tender, it just melts in your mouth. The eggs were cooked with bamboo pieces which kinda threw DH off. I liked them, but DH would've preferred it without. The flavor is sweet/salty and pretty mild. It came with miso soup and some pickles. Parking is right in the front and backs into the main road. It can be spicy getting out if traffic is heavy. They don't have a lot of bathrooms, so there might be a wait. Those are the downsides. Otherwise, a wonderful local place to eat!
