My husband and I had dinner tonight at this restaurant for the very first time. It was amazing. The authentic sushi made to order and other Japanese food like shrimp tempura. They had so many of our favorite dishes like soft shell crab, fried calamari the list goes on. The staff are so friendly and the prices are affordable. The food was excellent!! If the rating was just based on food, it would be a 10! Couple of areas that need some improvement. If they sell cold sake, it should be cold not at room temp. Service is 3.5, we had to consistently hail the server, including asking for the check. I would think they would want to turn tables, there were people waiting for a table. Minor issue, it was pretty warm inside the restaurant. But I would definitely go back and try the other food on their menu. read more

First time in Hawaii and this was also our first meal here. It's been raining so we just wanted something quick. I quickly glanced at the reviews and it had a lot of 5 stars so I gave it a try. I thought the sushi and sashimi was just okay. I've definitely had better and more fresh sushi and sashimi. I was actually a little nervous to eat the uni because the color seemed a little dull. Usually for fresh uni, the color is a brighter orange. Some of the nigiri pieces were still pretty good. It's a small little place with a couple of tables. Service was good. Our bill with tip for a family of 5 came out to be about $400. A little steep. Maybe this is standard pricing in Hawaii? Not sure. Made reservations here on our last night on Big Island. Very quaint place for a nice dinner out. The vibe is warm and you're met with a great smile by the staff when arriving. The food we got were also really good. Didn't take a picture but we also got the pork bun, shishito peppers and VIP roll. All were pretty fire, I can see myself ordering it again. Overall, this place is a really good stop for sushi amongst all the restaurants here in Kona. This is a hidden gem, easy to find, easy parking right in the front. You have a choice of outdoor or indoor dining. Indoors there are about 6 tables that seat a party of four, one booth for six people, and counter space - about six seats for a total of about 35+ seats inside the restuarant. We ordered a tofu salad, sashimi sampler, unagi don, and a yummy sparkling peach drink. The other customers in the restaurant mostly ordered sushi - all of the rolls looked great! Soft tofu salad was excellent with a creamy dressing that was light, citrusy and flavorful. Perfect for a hot day or if you want something refreshing. Sashimi sampler was superb! For $30, you get three slices: one each of salmon, hamachi, and maguro sashimi x 4 in a chef choice of flavors and sauce. Flavor 1: dill aioli - creamy, a little heavy and drowned out the flavor of the fish. My least fav. Flavor 2: sweet chili sauce with shreds of chili pepper - it was good, but nothing special. Flavor 3: garlic sauce - light and flavorful, delicious and tasty Flavor 4- yuzu and truffle oil!!!! Wow!! That was my fav! I wouldn't let the staff remove the dish even when I finished the fish as I ate the other slices of sashimi in that sauce! Winner! Unagi don was ok, and the sparkling peach was spot on for a drink at the end of the day. Service was great, attentive and cheerfully greeted when we entered. We had such a great dining experience here. The food was amazing, and we're really glad we decided to stop by. We came right when they opened, which worked out perfectly. We ordered Step to Heaven, Ankimo, sizzling steak, and a selection of sushi. Everything was delicious, but the sushi really stood out, super fresh and memorable. We tried Miyazaki in Kona last night for a pre-Valentine's dinner and it was absolutely amazing! So excited to have a new Japanese restaurant of this quality here on the Big Island. We started with sushi and Sashimi, king salmon, hamachi and the uni was incredibly fresh, rich, and buttery, and the scallop nigiri melted in your mouth. Beautiful presentation and perfectly seasoned rice. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients. The sizzling seafood entrée was another highlight served hot on a cast iron plate with tender squid, zucchini, onions, and colorful bell peppers in a flavorful sauce. It came out steaming and smelled incredible. Every bite was packed with flavor. One of my favorite dishes of the night was the carpaccio scallop appetizer. It was plated so beautifully with a light creamy sauce and fresh greens, almost too pretty to eat. The scallops were fresh and very delicate. The staff was very friendly and attentive throughout the night. The sushi chef even came out to our table to check on us and ask how everything was such a nice personal touch that made the experience even more special. I asked for small portions of rice for the nigiri that I ordered but still came with lots of rice. The fish did not taste fresh. And for some reason oil was on my dish. The ikura was very watery . Nothing tasted authentic Japanese. Restaurant is cute and service for good. Sadly I will not return. Shiono's is much more authentic. read more

The service here was phenomenal with the servers coming over and double checking our experience, while here I decided to try a few new items uni and kenpachi and eel, everything was super fresh. Although I wasn't the biggest fan of uni the texture was something special it was very fresh and worth it for the experience. They play really nice jazzy tunes from the 80s for the music and honestly it was such a vibe. I loved the kenpachi and the samurai roll was phenomenal my friends ate some nijiri and a cold ramen and rainbow don and mackerel. All of it was really good we topped off with dessert a tempura fried ice cream also delicious! The price was what I'd expect for an epic fresh sushi place I wasn't shocked by anything other than the market price of sea urchin/uni. We've eaten there several times it's a lovely place new remodeled updated. The food is excellent everything that we've had and tried services excellent. Parking a bit tight but get there early and you'll get a space or park at the library across the street. I know they say they have parking in the back but it's awkward to get in there. read more
