Made reservations here on our last night on Big Island. Very quaint place for a nice dinner out. The vibe is warm and you're met with a great smile by the staff when arriving. The food we got were also really good. Didn't take a picture but we also got the pork bun, shishito peppers and VIP roll. All were pretty fire, I can see myself ordering it again. Overall, this place is a really good stop for sushi amongst all the restaurants here in Kona. They're pretty new and only been in business for a few months but I can tell they're here to stay!

This is a hidden gem, easy to find, easy parking right in the front. You have a choice of outdoor or indoor dining. Indoors there are about 6 tables that seat a party of four, one booth for six people, and counter space - about six seats for a total of about 35+ seats inside the restuarant. We ordered a tofu salad, sashimi sampler, unagi don, and a yummy sparkling peach drink. The other customers in the restaurant mostly ordered sushi - all of the rolls looked great! Soft tofu salad was excellent with a creamy dressing that was light, citrusy and flavorful. Perfect for a hot day or if you want something refreshing. Sashimi sampler was superb! For $30, you get three slices: one each of salmon, hamachi, and maguro sashimi x 4 in a chef choice of flavors and sauce. Flavor 1: dill aioli - creamy, a little heavy and drowned out the flavor of the fish. My least fav. Flavor 2: sweet chili sauce with shreds of chili pepper - it was good, but nothing special. Flavor 3: garlic sauce - light and flavorful, delicious and tasty Flavor 4- yuzu and truffle oil!!!! Wow!! That was my fav! I wouldn't let the staff remove the dish even when I finished the fish as I ate the other slices of sashimi in that sauce! Winner! Unagi don was ok, and the sparkling peach was spot on for a drink at the end of the day. Service was great, attentive and cheerfully greeted when we entered. We'll be back the next time we're in Kona!

We had such a great dining experience here. The food was amazing, and we're really glad we decided to stop by. We came right when they opened, which worked out perfectly. We ordered Step to Heaven, Ankimo, sizzling steak, and a selection of sushi. Everything was delicious, but the sushi really stood out, super fresh and memorable. The steak was also incredibly flavorful and cooked perfectly. Our server was fantastic, she made sure everyone had a great time. You can tell this spot is going to do really well in Kona. I'd definitely recommend checking it out now before it gets hard to book a table. We're already looking forward to coming back and trying more from the sushi menu!

I asked for small portions of rice for the nigiri that I ordered but still came with lots of rice. The fish did not taste fresh. And for some reason oil was on my dish. The ikura was very watery . Nothing tasted authentic Japanese. Restaurant is cute and service for good. Sadly I will not return. Shiono's is much more authentic.

It is great sushi restaurant, I think this is one of the top sushi spots on the island! The sashimi was incredibly fresh and high quality--you can really taste the difference. The wagyu beef roll was absolutely beyond, rich and perfectly balanced. Moreover, the soy sauce feel so rich flavored, and when I asked actually they have homemade soy sauce. I also loved the double hamachi roll, super flavorful and fresh. On top of that, the servers were very kind and attentive. Highly recommend

We tried Miyazaki in Kona last night for a pre-Valentine's dinner and it was absolutely amazing! So excited to have a new Japanese restaurant of this quality here on the Big Island. We started with sushi and Sashimi, king salmon, hamachi and the uni was incredibly fresh, rich, and buttery, and the scallop nigiri melted in your mouth. Beautiful presentation and perfectly seasoned rice. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients. The sizzling seafood entrée was another highlight served hot on a cast iron plate with tender squid, zucchini, onions, and colorful bell peppers in a flavorful sauce. It came out steaming and smelled incredible. Every bite was packed with flavor. One of my favorite dishes of the night was the carpaccio scallop appetizer. It was plated so beautifully with a light creamy sauce and fresh greens, almost too pretty to eat. The scallops were fresh and very delicate. The staff was very friendly and attentive throughout the night. The sushi chef even came out to our table to check on us and ask how everything was such a nice personal touch that made the experience even more special. If you're looking for a great spot for date night or a special occasion in Kona, I highly recommend Miyazaki. We'll definitely be back!

The service here was phenomenal with the servers coming over and double checking our experience, while here I decided to try a few new items uni and kenpachi and eel, everything was super fresh. Although I wasn't the biggest fan of uni the texture was something special it was very fresh and worth it for the experience. They play really nice jazzy tunes from the 80s for the music and honestly it was such a vibe. I loved the kenpachi and the samurai roll was phenomenal my friends ate some nijiri and a cold ramen and rainbow don and mackerel. All of it was really good we topped off with dessert a tempura fried ice cream also delicious! The price was what I'd expect for an epic fresh sushi place I wasn't shocked by anything other than the market price of sea urchin/uni. All in all the service was top tier the guy came and checked on us and when he found out I was trying new things he was honestly excited to hear my opinion on it all.

4.7 rounded upwards Visiting from California Area and my wife is from Japan--the sushi on the rolls were fresh not from frozen. The Alaska roll w salmon w fish eggs on top was flavorful The agedashi tofu appetizer was in a soupy bowl unlike what we have had before and unique The highlight was the appetizer Saikyo Yaki Kanpachi which was miso marinated fish baked w the pink radish your supposed to chew off base to flavor it. Took little longer to make and last to be served but worth it and first of its kind I have ever had We went to KTA grocery store within few min drive which is an Asian grocery store filled with happiness and modestly large to get snacks afterwards!

    The restaurant sign.

The food, service, and the ambiance are amazing. Our server Ade originally from Indonesia was so friendly and welcoming. Practically, the staff were friendly and polite. I ordered their VIP tools for $24.00 and my wife ordered Tofu salad, wow! You can't go wrong especially if you're hungry like me. I didn't have any issues about parking either. Fantastic place and great staff.

During my last visit, we tried the Beach Tree Restaurant next door so we decided to try 'Ulu this time and boy am I glad we did. This is our last night on the Big Island and our favorite meal of our trip. The hostess led us to a large table right next to ocean. Our servers Doug and Braxton provided the best service ever. Doug is a sweet guy who grew in Southern Cal close to my residence, so we chatted for quite a while and had some good laughs. Braxton has the world's best smile and took the best group photos for us. They made our dining experience memorable. The food too were fantastic. I always try new restaurants hoping we'll get a surprise new experience and 'Ulu definitely delivered. 'Ulu has a pre-fixe menu and a few of us took advantage of the deal. The pre-fixe comes with a Kanpachi Crudo Salad, a Mango Curry Prawn Bowl, and finishes with a Mango Mille-Feuille. The Kanpanchi Crudo Salad was light and the fish was very fresh. My wife really enjoy this appetizer. I tried a little of her Mango Curry Prawn mean course and it was amazing. The Prawns are huge and perfectly cooked so it is not tough. The curry has a good balance so it is not too mild or strong. I never had this flavor before so I was delighted to try it. Doug informed me about a daily catch special with Red Snapper. I had a lot of fish in Hawaii and honestly I don't like most of them because they always comes out a bit dry. However, I know Red Snappers. That fish has the softest texture so I gave in. That dish did not disappoint. The pan fried side of the fish is crispy while the soft delicate inside just melts in your mouth. I like steam Red Snappers for its soft texture and I was very surprised that this pan fried version can offer the same softness inside. Our friend ordered the New York strip. The steak itself can benefit from more marbling but it was not bad. The Miso sauce adds a very rich salty flavor that you don't usually get from a steak dish. My daughter had a crab meat udon and she loved it. She is a fiend for anything noodle. There were crab flavors in every bite and the crab meat portions are generous. At the end, Doug hooked us up with a Vanilla Soufflé dessert to help celebrate our anniversary. The Soufflé was one of the best I ever had. Every item we tried was good and the view from our table was amazing. This was one of my top 5 best dining experience ever. I understand that most people want to book Beach Tree because of the view, but I am telling you don't sleep on 'Ulu. If I return to Big Island next time, I will book 'Ulu again in a heart beat.

The ahi tuna steak was seared perfectly and seasoned very well. We loved their innovative and unique desserts. The lava crunch cake was mouthy watering and a dream for any chocolate lover. This was one of the best restaurants we ever tried. The restaurant is a must try. 'Ulu is a top 3 restaurant of all time.

My coworkers ordered the Big Island roll and the chirashi don, and they both loved their meals. We opted for the Omakake (Tasting) Menu along with the Wine Pairing for each course. We knew it would be expensive (prices intentionally deleted), but we felt it would be a wonderful experience. We have eaten at Morimoto at Sea on several Holland America Line ships, including our recent cruise on HAL's Nieuw Amsterdam that has a dedicated Morimoto Restaurant mid-ship on deck 11 -- those meals have always been fantastic. Back to last night. Disappointment #1 -- The wine for the first course arrived 5 minutes before Course 1, the Toro Tartare. The wine had lost most of its coolness, and intended flavor and aroma, by time the dish arrived. Disappointment #2 -- The Intermezzo dish, the Sudachi cucumber sorbet was a bit sour. Other intermezzi that I have had were a slightly sweet, perhaps lime or lemon sorbet. AND they typically were paired with a splash of champagne or a sparkling brut (why not include the Morimoto Dream Rosè?) Disappointment #3 -- Course 5, the Surf & Turf, was bad! The very small portion of the Wagyu beef was Medium Well to Well Done and appeared to have been burnt over a flame. When we told our server, his comment was, "That's why I recommended the Japanese A5 Wagyu [at an additional $80 per person!]." Sorry burnt beef if burnt beef, no matter what the price. Training/Expectations seem low: Where do they get their water glasses? On the discount table at Walmart? These two are different styles on the same table; at least our two were the same style, although different from those two. And the dessert spoons -- two different styles given to us. I expect (and I am sure others also do) a much higher standard at this famous Iron Chef restaurant. DELIGHTS: Course 1 - The Toro Tartare was so tasty. We are used to a tartare to be chopped, perhaps even finely chopped, but this one was made into a puree. The toppings (caviar and rice crackers were tasty, and the rice crackers looked like little sweet ice cream toppings. Course 2 - Red Snapper Carpaccio was liked by someone who does not normally like raw fish. The light sauce added a subtle dash of flavor, and we were able to roll the pieces with chop sticks and heat an entire price at once. Course 3 - Lobster Takoyaki. The three "lobster balls" were served warm, and they were very tasty. A large piece of lobster in each roll was a true delight. Course 4 - Sushi. The 5 pieces of nigiri were Chu Toro, Hamachi, Salmon, Campachi, and Big Eye Tuna. There was a light smear of wasabi between the fish and the rice; I had already asked for more (and hotter) wasabi that I mixed with the soy sauce. We brought a few pieces of the sushi back to the condo for a later snack. Course 6 -- the dessert was so-so in my opinion. Sharon liked it, so it was probably just my tastebuds and not the actual dessert. We had planned to go back to Morimoto Maui next week for a special Wagyu and Wine pairing, but based on last night's Wagyu failure, we have cancelled the reservation. I hope that our next dinner at a stateside Morimoto restaurant (probably Morimoto Napa in 4 weeks) is a much better experience for us.

She just won it all, so make reservations :) The restaurant offers indoor and patio seating. You can't go wrong either way. We were on the fringe of the indoor seating so it was easy to go out to take sunset photos. For appetizers we got oysters. They were delicious and delicate. For mains we got the whole grilled lobster, lamb chops, and tenderloin. The lamb chops were some of the best I've had. They were seasoned very well and grilled to the right temperature. I loved the mint salsa verde that came with it. The steak was also well flavored and grilled. The broccolini came with a great char. The lobster was great and easy to take out of the shell. The kitchen cuts the lobster for you, but lays it in the shell so you still see the meat in the shells. This was a great grilled dish too. We ordered a bunch of sides too because they looked so great. We were not wrong. They were amazing. We got the sugar snap peas, fried rice, and sweet potatoes. The fried rice was our favorite. We didn't leave anything behind. The sugar snap peas were great too. The lightness of the dish was great to balance out the meats. The sweet potatoes were great, but a little heavy for the dishes we had ordered. For desserts we got the vanilla cheesecake and flan cake. I loved the concept of the flan cake. It was so inventive. We liked it, but the cheesecake won out. Definitely come here for a meal. It was one of the best we had during our visit and we would return.

There wasn't anything really calling to me that made it seem like the price was worth it so we ordered small plates. If the restaurant is labeled $$$$, I expect everything to be above and beyond. Food 2/5 'Ula 'Ula Hale $18 - Sangria was delicious, loved it. Voyager $25 - Whiskey, cute restaurant logo on the ice. Chilled Oysters $14 ($7ea) - Worth a try, tasted good. Shokupan $18 - Bread with butter. Not a fan of the seeds on the bread but can't really go wrong with this option. Gyoza $18 - Delicious with a flavorful sauce. Hamachi & Uni $28 - Disappointed by the presentation but tasted just fine. We were offered macarons for my birthday which was lovely. Ambiance 3/5 Gorgeous hotel and the view is great when heading to the restaurant but really dark at night. Dining area is huge, indoor and outdoor. We had a table on the in the back corner on the sand. Great view to see everything but it's incredibly dark with minimal lighting. Service 3/5 Our server was nice but nothing special.
