I passed this shop on the way to pick up my purchases from Nordstrom last night. It had just started heavily snowing, but I doubled back towards the store after spotting a pillbox hat on the mannequin. Note that I've previously stepped inside the shop to survey the selection, and last night I stopped in for what was only supposed to be a quick moment... The owner greeted me and almost immediately started talking prices. This is $20 dollars and we have that for $25 dollars, but this is a little more expensive, and that's this price. Oh, that fascinator is beautiful on you and you can put it layaway. It was just $79 dollars, mind you. Excuse me? It's such a turn-off when people see brown skin and assume that the purchase would be unaffordable without a payment plan! Not to mention, I started off by noting that I was only taking a quick peek on my way to pick up my Nordstrom purchase. Though I promptly told her that I don't need layaway and I pay for things outright, I had already decided that I wouldn't be buying from there. Her fixation on talking to me about price was all I needed to hear. Nothing disgusts me more than when people make assumptions! I have beautiful vintage hats in my collection, fine jewelry and quality costume jewelry, and beautiful bags that I've purchased abroad. She could've had a repeat customer who prioritizes quality goods and, more importantly, quality service. read more

To be honest I'm very bummed by the experience here. I went to this store, which granted has a ton of variety, and purchased six pairs of gloves as gifts etc. they were $20.00 each. I left the store and an hour later...the SAME EXACT GLOVES were at another store for $10.00 each. The kicker: Eve Bari does not allow returns. Only exchanges. I over paid by 50%. Skip this store if you don't want to be completely taken. I'd would be a completely different experience if the gloves were a) refundable or b) not so gouged. read more

I was across the street and saw a space full of hats! I went back to the crosswalk and waited eagerly for the cars to halt and the light to turn. I found myself in a room filled with beautiful things. 1. Hats gallore! 2. Handmade evening purses ($99 a pop) 3. Fashion jewelry 4. Handmade leather backpacks from around the world. 5. Other knickknacks. I'm not your average girl. I like unique things of quality and durability and functionality. This place has it. I forgot to bring my hat with me, and instead of spending a fortune [$75+] anywhere else for a pretty pompom wool hat, I found two beautiful hats for $29.00 each. This place is amaaaazing!!! The hats and fascinators are gorgeous, Eve is friendly and helpful and full of energy, and the atmosphere is relaxed and very fun!! I went in last minute to buy a hat for the Belmont and ended up walking out with two fascinators and a beautiful clutch an hour later. I also found a fellow shopper at the races! On a beautiful Sunday afternoon -- one of the first for New York's spring this year -- I was happy to finally leave his apartment. It was nearing 6 by now, but the sun still hung overhead and New York was blooming: The grand fountain burst with life, tourists lingered, and moms pushed strollers as friends strolled lazily along the shops. I tipped down my sunglasses to take in the scene as I walked by. I'd missed all of it today, but I didn't mind. With every new phase, the world stops a bit and some things hold you back ... little conversations, fresh tomato salad, blue eyes, soft hands. But I had managed to step away from the distractions finally, and I was heading home to work. Determined now, I tipped my glasses back up and turned the corner on 57th, heading for the N train. A few feet away from the subway, I glanced over at a window display to see if my reflection captured my feelings. And there I was: curls flowing free and wild, no makeup, just youth passing by a shop ... and beyond that: pearls, feathers, gemstones ... wow. Without hesitation, I took off my glasses and stepped into the store. The little bell announced my arrival, and the shopkeeper looked up. Her winning smile beckoned me to stop by her first, where a long row of rings lay by the checkout machine. I pushed each one gently on my fingers, marveling at my newly grown nails adding elegance to my hands. I put down the rings and walked around the tiny store. A collection of feather headbands hung from the shelves along the wall. I've always considered these ridiculous -- and loathing ridiculous fads, I never thought to try one on. But spring makes you do "crazy" things, so mindlessly, I picked up the most ridiculous one. And there I was: My curls still free as ever, the side of a peacock growing out of my head. Ridiculous ... and yet ... I liked it. I took it off and picked up another one, a less flamboyant one this time. It looked like a crow had found shelter in my hair, hanging out only its one black wing, lined at the bottom with lace and a cluster of gems. Brilliant. The shopkeeper walked over and complimented my curls, and I heard myself bubbling on and on about my cool new haircut. As I talked, I took off the headband and flipped it over. $39, it showed back. "Ugh, New York," I thought. (I much preferred the topside.) There's nothing I hate more than the idea of overpaying, even for something as girlishly precious as a beautiful feather headband. So I put it down, took another eyeful of the shiny little store on 57th and walked out. So close to the train, so removed from my expectations. It happens. Sweet cozy shop filled with accessories... scarves, hats, jewelry. I needed to buy something for a friend's birthday, and had kept putting it off, and it was getting down to the wire. I've probably passed this store 100 times and always just sort of looked in the window but always in a hurry, I never stopped in. But this time I did, and found a really lovely scarf for my friend (and a hat for me). I would never advise anyone to shop at Eve Bari. Staff is very unhelpful and they hover over you like you're a shoplifter. They are extremely pushy and rude. I had the worst experience ever. Awful customer service. I previously saw blingy hair accessories in the store window and yesterday I came to the store on purpose looking for one for my wedding. They didn't have a good selection, maybe 4-6 pieces. Most of the accessories in the store look cheap and junky. In any case, I saw one that I was interested in but it didn't go the whole way around the head and I wasn't sure how it would work so I asked the sales lady "what is this? can I see it?" she responded "well since you don't know what it is obviously you won't buy it but it clips in to the hair with pins" - I resisted the urge to tell the other customer to leave the store but I wouldn't purchase an accessory from someone so nasty. read more

Great things come in small packages. This tiny store is a hidden treasure, i work around the area and I use my lunch time to walk around and for some "odd" reason I always end up inside Eve Bari. Amazing and unique pieces can always be found, and although the price is a bit high, is definitely worth it. As a woman I never want to run into anyone wearing the same items I am wearing and I know that purchasing a piece from Eve I will never run into that issue.
