A friend of mine rang and booked a table for 6 for Saturday just gone (13th of Feb).
He had said "5 people and myself" on the phone. When we arrived, they made quite a bit of fuss about us having not booked for 6, as they had misunderstood him. While he could have been clearer, and it was an honest mistake on both sides, we were made feel very unwelcome, and it got worse from here on in.
We sat down and placed our drink orders, (4 pints of kirin and 2 cokes). When they arrived, it was 5 beers and 1 coke. So we had to send a beer back.
When we ordered our food, one of our orders turned up very fast. While the remainder of the orders were much later. This is not in keeping with good restaurant etiquette.
When I received mine, it was a much smaller portion than everyone else. When I went to get cutlery to eat it, there was not enough for all of us at the table. Also, I order the Monkfish, that was described as having seaweed as part of the dish, yet when it arrived, the extent of the "seaweed" was what looked like 5 extremely thin strips of nori. The dish was 22e, so I expected better.
While the portion size of my dish wasn't a problem in itself, it meant I finished first. Seconds after finishing, I had my plate taken away. I felt embarrassed having had my plate taken away while everyone else was still eating.
This "whip the plates away before everyone is finished" continued throughout the dinner, including drinks too. Again, this is not in keeping with good restaurant etiquette. We were never even asked if everything was alright with the food etc, because we'd have definitely said something!
One member of the party asked if we could order more drinks (as we had all finished). The waiter took her order (and hers only) and left. We had all planned on ordering a drink at this time, so we we're pretty frustrated that he stormed off. When he returned to take more plates, we asked if we could ALL order. He processed to try and re-take an order from the woman who had just ordered, she said she had just ordered from him very clearly. Again the order was very clear and simple. We asked for FOUR of the same cocktails. 4 spicy Asians.
Again, the drink order was incorrect. We told them we didn't order 5. We were told the 5th would be on the house. Then we were told it couldn't be offered to us on the house, and we'd have to pay. We told them we didn't want to pay for a drink we didn't order. It was then taken away. Moments later it was returned to us, "free of charge" again.
I've never experienced such a low standard of customer service for a restaurant that is not cheap, and it hit its low point when we saw the waiter rolling his eyes at another member of staff. Despicable treatment of customers considering the restaurant staff were continuously at fault.
A service charge was included in the bill, making us believe that group parties are instantly treated like crap due to the waiters getting their tip regardless. While I'm accustomed to seeing this on group bills, it generally comes with good service, so I've never been annoyed with the prospect of having to be forced to pay for such poor service.
We had planned to continue the night with a few drinks in Tengu, but were so furious at the poor treatment, we left.
I can't UN-RECCOMEND this place enough. read more
