Coming from San Francisco, where you can get some of the best fish the seas have to offer, I found Yamamori significantly lacking in quality, taste, options, and service. I've been here a couple of times over the past year and each time I find myself wondering why I keep going back... oh yeah, because my friends want to eat there and they outnumber me. If you do end up going, don't bother with any of the sushi or noodle dishes. Stick with the cooked stuff. Also, their staff is not knowledgeable about the food they serve. I'll keep looking for a decent sushi place in Dublin, but I think I have a long road ahead of me. read more

This has to be one of my favourite sushi places of anywhere I've been (even Sydney where I have had to ask for an english menu as everything is written in Japenense so it's pretty hard core sushi yum) I'm always dragging everyone here any chance (yes I'm one of THOSE people) as the service is always amazing, quick and friendly. Yamamori has become one of my favorite restaurants in Dublin when it comes to Japanese Food. Their service is fantastic - friendly, attentive and up for a joke. As far as their food goes, I've tried lots of different Sushi-variations as well as some of their main dishes and all of them were delicious. One of my favorites is their Bibimbap - granted, it's Korean, but just as delicious as you'd get it in a Korean restaurant. They serve it the way it's supposed to be served - in a heavy stone bowl with lots of veggies, beef, rice and a fried egg on top; accompanied by fish oil and spicy red pepper paste. I also am a huge fan of their spicy tuna rolls and their tuna sashimi. One thing I'm not too fond about is that often, the sushi rice is too loose/fluffy, causing your sushi to fall apart before you've even had a chance to pick it up with your chopsticks. That being said, it's still tasty, but inconvenient to eat. All in all, Yamamori Noodles on Lower Ormond Quay is definitely a good Place for Sushi in Dublin if you're looking for atmosphere - but be prepared to pay a little more for that than elsewhere. read more

Loud. Busy. Crowded. I went one night with hubby after a hankering for sushi. We had a nice plate of sashimi and edamame. The food was fine but the atmosphere and the whole dining experience was completely disagreeable. We saw about 3 different servers throughout our meal so we never knew if we should ask for water (again) or if the last waiter was really getting it. We were seated by a giant column on one side with a 6 top of chads and brittanys on the other, speaking like they were from Jersey Shore. The place was just loud and noisy and a billion servers and cooks were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. It was not relaxing or enjoyable at all. We went with a group of twelve and had a table booked in the Tenga room. The staff was very friendly and it was nice to sit in the smaller room. You can't watch the kitchen from there but it's a nice and cosy room. I had heard good things about the food here but I wasn't convinced by it. I assume it was freshley made, it just didn't taste like it was fresh. I went for the misu soup and two different types of sushi and somehow the kick was missing for me. I'm not a huge fan of Japanese food, but whenever I have a hankering for sushi, I come here. It's more relaxed and casual than it's counterpart on George's Street. I love the way its decorated and the outside bamboo garden with the buddha statue is nice to look at even if you're seated indoors. It doesn't have booths (none that I could see) just tables and chairs and benches so it looks more open plan and great for people watching. I got the avocado and tuna nigiri sushi which was delicious and then for dessert I got the mango pudding topped with fresh mango, cream and a coconut wafer. One of the best desserts in Dublin ever! My friends got the Panna Cotta and the Eton mess which looked equally amazing. Definitely a good place for sushi and for casual dates and meeting with friends. I find the noodle dishes way too expensive in these times, and the sushi is a bit pricey too. But nice to go there the odd time. read more

I ordered ichi yaki gohan, it was 90% onions and rice, the sauce was bottled not fresh and the crab meat was canned. Overall I didn't enjoy my experience and spent the night rolling around my bed with cramps. I have been going here for years. In fact just a couple of years ago this place would have probably have gotten a 5 star rating from me. In the past while their quality has dropped, the portions have shrunk and their prices have increased dramatically. Back in the day, I found it hard to walk by any of the Yamamori restaurants without reading the daily bento box offers. They were always full of interesting dishes that I wanted to try. More recently, I spot the bento board and it usually looks like the same thing as it was every other day. The place is still nice; food is very good cocktails are also very nice. Recently they have started using black sushi rice which, in my opinion is not as nice as the white rice. If you are looking for a nice Japanese meal you are better off going to Musashi or Zakura or one of the other fantastic Japanese restaurants that have opened in the past few years. read more

Yamamori has been a City Centre favourite for years thanks to a menu offering Japanese style options scaled to Dublin (read: Western) tastes. Fresh sushi, generous portions and attentive staff have kept the place buzzing, despite a slight downturn recently to overall quality. That said, I'm a loyal girl. Whether I'm on a bench seat, tucked away in a booth or out in open-air seating, I have a few favourites that win me over every time. Start with a spicy tuna roll, or the chef's choice of sashimi; the cream cheese and salmon role always is an easy win. Pair it with the first of a few Asahi beers or cleanse the palette with the hot tap water -er, green tea -provided free of charge. For main I'm always torn: bento box or tempura? Yamamori's bento selection is considerate, with options for vegetarians and carnivores, and offers a little taste of a lot of things. As for tempura, well... sweet yam slices, crisp peppers, white fish fillets and more... all deep fried? That's a bingo! Don't bother finishing the whole plate; get past the first layer of crispy unidentifiables and an uncomfortable greasy fullness sets in. Finish early with a last splash of ginger sauce on a fork full of rice, and save space for dessert. My advice here: Always. Order. Ice Cream. Yamamori's chefs supply their kitchen with a brand of organic ice creams hand made by an Irish dairy. Selections will vary, but I'm a fan of the green tea, crunchy oatmeal cookie and smooth vanilla triumvirate. Paired with an after-dinner espresso these chilly scoops of heaven are a perfect way to end a meal. When it's all over, fork over the cash and don't grumble. Yamamori is a Dublin institution these days. While I love Japanese food, I think Yamamori is one of the most overrated restaurants in Dublin. I recently returned to Yamamori after having not been there for a number of years and saw that nothing much had changed. The sushi tasted okay but was incredibly overpriced for a sampler platter that had smaller than average pieces of fish and sushi rice that was barely better than plain boiiled rice (sushi rice is a particular type of rice which is then prepared with vinegar and a sweetener). My friend ordered the Tofu Steak which at €17 also seemed overpriced. It really appeared as if all they had done was taken a block of tofu, breaded it, deep fried it and then absolutely covered it in something approaching the texture of hot apricot jam. The temperature of Yamamori has also always gotten to me as I don't think I've ever been there when it wasn't at least 25 if not pushing 30 degrees. When you have a hot kitchen so close to the diners, working air conditioning would probably be a good thing... read more

I come here every few weeks for lunch because they have a great lunch offer. However they are very hit and miss with the quality of the food they serve and the menu goes from amazing choices to poorly put together dishes which is disappointing. The service here also really swings from great to awful. Sometimes the server is really nice and friendly however they are all inattentive and we usually have to get up and grab someone after waiting. It's a pity because if they were more attentive I would definitely order more than I usually do. read more

I've been to this place a couple of times, and it never disappoints. It's a great place to enjoy good food, decent drinks and the company of your friends in a chilled out atmosphere. Most recently, I went with two friends of mine who had offered to buy me dinner there as a belated birtday treat. I looooove sushi, but hardly ever have it because it's pricey and because I like to save it for a treat, even though it's one of those things that I could eat for the rest of my life and probably never get sick of it. We went straight from the office and got a table at about 7.30, so were all absolutely ravenous by the time we sat down. Julie and I ordered a Jo Moriawase between us, which is basically a large sushi platter served with a small salad of brocolli, cucumber and ginger. Krista ordered the bibimbap: a huge bowl of rice, shredded steak and vegetables, topped with a fried egg. We washed the lot down with happy hour cocktails (€5.50 a pop, pretty good for Dublin) - I had the Cosmopolitan Tokyo, Julie had the Kiwi Mojito and Krista had the Strawberry Mojito - followed by more happy hour cocktails and plum wine. EVen though we were stuffed, Julie and I both ordered dessert in the form of the mount fiji chocolate mousse, garnished with an orange brandy snap and orange caramel coulis. As far as I know, Asian cuisine is not known for its desserts, at least in my experience. A lot of Asian restaurants just offer American or European desserts by default, but this chocolate mousse managed to give an exotic twist to a classic dessert, making me feel a little less guilty for not getting something more traditional. A thoroughly satisfying meal altogether. As for the service, the staff were friendly, informative and attentive but not too attentive. The restaurant is always busy but so far I've always been able to get a table. The prices are reasonable and the central location makes it perfect for a date or just dinner with friends. read more

Dropped in for a spot of lunch on a Friday afternoon. The place was busy as usual but we were seated without fuss albeit at one of the small side tables where 'intimate dining' is taken to a new level as you are joined by the diners sitting at the table mere inches from yours, but hey, it's a sushi lunch so who needs privacy?! For food we went for a couple of sushi rolls (crayfish & spicy mayo and salmon & cream cheese), some miso and the baked oyster salad. The rolls were pretty good. Fresh, strong flavours although the spicy mayo will give you a kick if you are not expecting it which makes for wonderful facial expressions if you have also forced one of the frankly huge pieces into your food-hole in one go. The oysters were nice. They were tasty and not bad for those who don't like their oysters as au natural as I usually do. The accompanying salad was nothing if not fresh though the dressing lacked a bit of zing. The miso was, well, miso. Hot, tasty yet not spectacular. I've had better sushi at cheaper prices but for a quick, fresh lunch it is still one of my favorite spots. read more

Overall very nice. I really enjoyed. Food is bit expensive (for example you have to pay 17€ for ramen) but from time to time it's wort it, especially if you check in with Yelp, you'll get free sake for every person at the table! We went for a prawn and avocado Norimaki which were very big and really fresh soft and tasty. I really enjoyed this one as I really like this combination of tastes. eby gyoza (small dumplings) really reminds mi in some way polish pierogi or Chinese sajgonki that I used to eat after college. seafood tempura was also very soft and crunchy and fresh. Tatsuta age which was breaded chicken with veg salad and brown rice which was tasty and as well. The staff is lovely and very very helpful especially Wakana (one girl that running around the tables). She can perfectly explain and advice what is the best to go for. The one thing that I didn't really enjoy it's the level of the noise. After our favorite J2 Sushi had a big drop in quality over a year ago, we had to try out Yamamori again. And on several occasions it turned out to be quite fine, without any issues. Consistently the best sushi in Dublin. I try other places but so far, none have stood up to Yamamori. I wish they were more adventurous with their maki and temaki but what they do make is excellent quality, I also love the fact they serve Hitachino Nest beer (Japanese craft beer) as well as a large range of Sake. It's not the cheapest restaurant but then again, Sushi all over the world is very expensive, even if it does seem like a lot for something that is not even cooked for the most part. I'm still hoping somewhere comes along that has the sort of sushi I expect when in Chicago but for now, this is more than good enough, as well as being a lot cheaper than Chicago sushi! read more

I am also a big fan of the design of this place, right down to the little portable black and white TV sitting on the front bar. I assume it's placed there on purpose as a prop, but maybe not? Regardless, the interior reminds me vaguely of the John Lautner house in Tom Ford's A Single Man - a touch of Southern California modernism, and that little TV just made me think of that 1950's Tom Ford style of the film. Well done Ireland! I am a fan of the food too. From what I can tell, the sushi is the best in Dublin. While not overly adventurous, its prepared right and always fresh with some interesting combinations on the menu and a nice presentation. It doesn't stand out in my mind as the best sushi I've ever had in terms of innovation, but its definitely good sushi. My only criticism about the menu is that there are too many deep dried, heavily sauced items and not enough focus on the natural freshness of Japanese food. Although, I believe those choices speak to the market. Overall though, the best Japanese experience I have had in Dublin, and good Japanese food in Ireland is not easy to come by. read more

Service in Yamamori seems to have taken a hit lately. I was there recently with two friends and we were all taken aback by it. The menu is dfferent from the website, and when I asked about a dish that had disappeared the response was quite abrupt. OK menus change, no big deal. But, throughout the meal we had the very opposite of good service. The staff were quite invasive but never available when needed. If you put down your fork your dishes were taken away - and not when everyone had finished, but as if the waitstaff were concerned that there wasn't enough dishes in the place so they had to get as many back as soon as possible. As a result it felt like our meal was constantly being interrupted - as soon as there was a chance we were finished with anything it was taken away. This is fine if you run a fast food joint, but not for a restaurant. The food is still good, which is why I didn't go lower than three stars, but the service made what should have been a pleasant meal quite awkward. The three of us are meeting again next week and we were originally to go to Yamamori, but now we've all decided that somewhere else would be more pleasant! read more

I come here every single time I'm home. Personally, the sushi lets Yamamori down a bit. I don't know how, maybe it's just sushi in Dublin in general, but it's always quite bland. Apart from that. Amazing food. Absolutely. Chicken katsu curry is good enough to drown in. I always go for a bento box, as choosing is difficult, and it's such a nice selection of dishes every time it's such a great chance to sample from throughout the menu. The place is big enough that it's rarely full, but the staff do seat people so they're not spread out which keeps the atmosphere quite relaxed but busy. I don't think I've ever booked in advance, so walk-ins are ok. The staff are friendly and always up for some banter and complimentary green tea only sweetens the deal! There's also televisions in the walls which show various samurai and Asian dramas on repeat (no sound of course!) I've never been in the little garden bit but it's quite nice from what I can see. Try the Tuna Tataki. Seriously... it's the best i've ever had. Once you've had that, go to one of the sushi platters, they're around €25 and they're perfect for 2-3 people once you've had the Tataki. There are always strange subtitled Japanese movies on the many LCD-TV's - be sure to pay attention to them as they're quite amusing. My friend and I always order a bottle of Sake and some Japanese beer to go with dinner, and I recommend you do the same before heading down to Temple Bar as you'll save quite a bit of money getting pissed before heading to the bars. read more

Me and my fiance went here Friday 19th December 2014 on a whim. We did not book any table so we decided to just take our chances and walked over there from Henry Street. A Japanese girl met us by the greeting station and she was very helpful. We did not need to wait very long to be seated. It was a very busy evening but in a good way. Tables were full but we managed to score a table close to the patio (outdoor smoking area/lounge) All the staff that walked passed smiled and did not look stressed at all! They all said hello and we could tell they were experienced. They were all calm and was scattered around the dining area quietly without looking stressed. We ordered Har Gau, Seafood Tempura platter, Large sushi platter and a Juju yaki niku (beef dish) The Nipponia beer my fiance ordered was great! Very malty and flavourful. I tried the Geisha nights cocktail but wasnt to my taste. It tasted alot of lychee. But that was my own fault as I chose to let the waitress choose a drink for me. When the food came it looked so scrumtpious and fresh. The friendly waiter explained how the Juju yaki niku is supposed to be eaten and I loved the texture and flavour of the meat together. I got a bowl of lettuce, steamed brown rice and a beautifully presented platter of the beef and woked vegetables with thinly sliced radish as topping. It was all hot and tasted wonderful. I took a sheet of lettuce and wrapped the beef with veg inside and dipped it with the sweet brown sauce. I think it has a soy and garlic base. The veggies were tenderly prepared and the beef eqs really tasty. The meat reminded me of grilling outdoors with a soy marinade. The beef slices were very thin but plentiful. The seafood tempura was delicious. The prawns had a nice size and the squid was delicately fried. It was light and crispy with the japanese breadcrumbs. The soy dipping sauce had a nice twist with some ginger and tasted lovely together with the seafood. The white fish was also very good and moist. The coating was airy and was very fresh. We ended this meal with dessert. I got a really moist and sweet sticky toffee pudding with dates. The texture of the dates in the sponge was different but nice. At the end I should have perhaps have shared the dessert as it was alot. It is 2 slices of sweet sponge layered on top of each other. The whipped cream was a great complement to the sweet sponge and it was a beautiful presentation with toffee sauce and garnish. My fiance got the Vodka tiramisu cocktail which was different! It had a lovely flavour of tiramisu, chocolate with a hint of vodka! But I wouldn't order it myself as I am not too fond of strong liquor. All in all it was a lovely experience! The girl that serviced us was very helpful and wasn't too far away for new orders on drinks and tissues. The staff was there all the time and I just love the open kitchen! I love seeing the chefs work from the kitchen and the buzz at Yamamori is never a negative thing. It's just a fun place to dine! The food didnt take long to get between the dishes and courses which was nice. As always with the food, service and atmosphere/staff, Yamamori has never disappointed us during our 5 year stay in Dublin. You can't go wrong with their regular bento boxes, that's what I order every time and am never disappointed. If that's too much for lunch, they have a lunchtime bento. And this is the best place in town for sushi. For someone who asked me what a bento box is, it's a tray divided into sections which has sushi, rice, meat, anything really. Came here on a Monday night so it was not super busy or loud. We did have different servers the whole night (one sat us, one took the order, one bought drinks, one brought food and cleared the table) which was kind of strange, but maybe they share tips. I got Vegetarian Miso soup and Norimaki Spicy Kimchee and Cucumber with brown rice (so it was not inside out). The soup was pretty good, but it tasted like chicken broth--I never got sick so maybe it was not chicken broth after all. The Norimaki was really good and pretty big sizes too! Everyone at the table got drinks as well becuase during the week they are 5.50 each and they were all good (except for the Lychee Martini which was too sweet) and were each twists on 'normal/typical' drinks such as Peach Sunrise and Cosmo Tokyo. I have been to Yamamori twice in the past three weeks and am glad to find some good Japanese food nearby. First visit was all about the sushi. We ate a variety of rolls, all tasty, well prepared and generously portioned. The menu offers a fairly wide array of flavors, including a few cooked and veggie choices. Next up was a Bento box. There are a couple on the regular menu, but I ordered the daily special. It included a few bites of beef in a tangy miso sauce, three spicy chicken wings, a small piece of broiled salmon in creme sort-of-wasabi sauce, and three nice pieces of sushi. By spicy, I mean Irish spicy - which is tasty but not really hot. The box was accompanied by some really good miso soup and the traditional side of white rice. Couldn't pass up the banoffee pie for dessert. However, it turned out to be the only disappointment. It was all crust, with only one or two token banana slices and an all-too-sweet sauce didn't work well. I have an Olympic level sweet tooth, so too much for me is a lot. The service at Yamamori is fast-paced in an attentive but not overbearing way. They serve in whatever order dishes are ready, so the sequence can be a little unexpected. There are plenty of non-sushi items on the extensive menu, so Yamamori is a true Japanese restaurant and not just a sushi house. I will be going back soon. read more

OH MY GOD!!! HAPPINESS YOUR NAME IS SUSHI! Seriously, went here for the first time yesterday with a friend and it was a complete case of our eyes being bigger than our stomachs. Everything on the menu looked so good we got a little carried away and order way too much food. We made a good dent in everything we ordered, but in the end couldn't finish it all. They also let us sit for almost an hour after we finished, often refilling our glasses with the most amazing mint water ever, so we could chat away. Nice enough place, I mostly come back for the atmosphere as for sushi and other Japanese food there are places I prefer. It's great for an evening out though and serves very good cocktails. On my previous visits the service was always great but I was a little disappointed the last time, the food came before our drinks (simple lemonade, nothing that should take long) and when we asked we were told the bar was very busy...I would have expected to at least be offered tap water then without having to ask for it. This is the best sushi you'll find in Dublin (if not, someone please let me in on the secrets!) I am still baffled that a city on the sea has not embraced sushi to the level of obsession but, with a traditional meat and potatoes culture, such is life. I've been to all 3 of Yamamori's locations at this stage-this is the "original"(?) sushi place, the restaurant also owns Yamamori Noodle on Georges Street and Izakaya (also on Georges Street nearby). I've yet to eat anything less than tasty at any location and the presentation is always nice. On a recent lunch at Yamamori we had several rolls and the crab seaweed salad which I would definitely get again. I won't give a full 5 stars as I'm still not absolutely blown away, however I will certainly continue to return due to the creative rolls (not just california rolls and tuna nori) and fun atmosphere. Both Izakaya and Yamamori Sushi have a fairly trendy but comfortable atmosphere. However, while Izakaya gets quite busy in the evenings, Yamamori doesn't seem to get as busy at lunch on a Friday as one would expect-I suppose this is due to the slightly off-the-beaten-path location. Yamamori Sushi has a nice outdoor courtyard which is a bonus and a large bar area for a restaurant of its size. It's the biggest location of the three. Noodles is more of a business-lunch atmosphere and its atmosphere is more traditional Japanese restaurant. The sushi menu there is more limited-each location varies by specialties but has the common theme and dishes running throughout. As it seems fitting to end with a dessert comment, Yamamori's cheesecake is divine. THE best Japanese restaurant in Dublin. When your boss comes to town take them here. You want to get hammered over sushi? - This is also the place. Be sure you go early or make reservations, there is always a line after 6. It's not cheap but when you choose to go to Japanese you want Japanese. This is a bit of "fusion" but I find it to be extremely well done. Hey, they know what sushi rice is! That's all I got to say... When in Dublin always order Salmon/sake. I love this place!!! Money wise, It's a bit tricky, you can end up with a bill of 50 euros or just 15 euros for a lunch. If you want something good and cheap, I recommend the Bento box, It's simple and so good..... You have 2 sushis, rice, Miso soup, salad and a dish of the day. The most healthy are the Ramen, It's so delicious and good detox for your body. The food here is so salty and oily, I think the only thing worth ordering is the sushi. The noodles taste nothing like actual ramen at all, and most of the hot dishes are battered or fried or soaked in soy sauce and salt. The staff are really inattentive, it took them at least 20 mins of trying to call them to take our order, and I was annoyed that the food I wanted was not available. They also brought out food at different times instead of all together, which I thought was weird. The price is quite high, not worth it in my opinion. I love Sushi and in my quest of trying to find good sushi in Dublin we ended up here for dinner. The two best things about the meal were the Endamame and Miso, both out of a packet I suspect. Two things I expect from any good Japanese restaurant 1) Prompt service 2) good sushi. Is that too much to ask ?? My main course went AWOL and arrived long after my wife had finished hers. Green Tea ice cream was too sweet and servings were huge. Similarly the Salmon Teriyaki was just a big well done Salmon steak with a bit of sauce on top. Very un Japanese to serve massive meals ;-) Japanese food is about delicate flavours served beautifully and artfully. Thick huge slices of salmon sashimi would be frowned upon in Japan ;-) The salmon sashimi was excellent but the rest of it left a lot to be desired. My quest for good Japanese in Dublin continues. I don't mind paying good money for good food but I hate paying good money for ordinary food. Won't be rushing back here unfortunately. read more

Ate here on a Thursday evening recently. Food fine, service not good. Maybe it was the end of a long day or something. I was a party of one. Ordered some sushi, sashimi, rice and miso, and a beer. They forgot to bring my rice. They forgot to bring my miso. Jaysus lads. Focus! Place wasn't that busy (I'd say it was a half hour or so to them closing). Food itself (the stuff that did arrive) was fine. No complaints. I was tired after a long day and so wasn't arsed to complain, plus I wasn't asked if everything was ok. So I just ate what did arrive (as I say, fine) and paid the bill, but pointed out the stuff that didn't arrive. They apologised (in fairness, profusely) and then deducted it from the bill. read more
