This is a wonderful roofing company based in Hilo that also does work in Kona. One of my biggest pet peeves about some Kona contractors is they charge the perceived "Kona Big Bucks" pricing to Haoles but they don't seem to treat people like that in Hilo. Yama's Roofing did not charge a surcharge to come to Kona, either. I received a couple of bids from other roofing companies, one of which was twice as much as Yama's. They listened to my problem and posed solutions. Part of my problem stemmed from the fact I hired a Kona contractor to put on the roof, and unknown to me, he installed plain rolled comp and then nailed it without even caulking the nail heads. Which caused the roof to leak. He came back and caulked the nail heads, but then it started to cup because he did not line it with blackjack prior to installing. He gave me a 10-year warranty that was worthless. Another roofer insisted on painting a couple of layers of silicone over the roof. Only Yama's had the best plan for this situation, which was a TPO roof that should last at least 20 years. They also installed flashing, which the first contractor did not do. And they installed gutterguard flashing on the sides so all the water runs down to the front. The gutter installation is perfect as well. Now, when it rains, I don't hear the rain hitting the roof, it no longer leaks, is perfectly water tight, and the flashing is correct. They fixed a horrible situation and they were prompt about it. If I could give them 10 stars, I would.

Pavilion standing seam roof and new gutters.

Brian and Yama's roofing recently did a tear off and roof replacement on two of our buildings located on the Keaukaha shoreline. The job was not easy, and involved the replacement of some rotted wood and fascia. Not only did Yama's complete the project days ahead of schedule, they offered the best price out of six other local contractors. I found Brian totally professional and an absolute pleasure to work with. His crew communicated with us well, and the cleanup during and after the project was completed to our satisfaction. They even painted the vent pipes to match the standing seam roof color! We used them a few years back for another re roof project at the same location, and we have had no issues at all with roof leaks or other problems. I would not hesitate to recommend this company.

Hardly anyone ever posts a positive review so I'd like to post this about Yama's roofing. From start to finish I have had a great experience with Yama's. I called Brian and he sent me an email so I could pick the color and style of roofing I wanted on my house. He came out and measured my roof and gave me a quote. I live on the other side of the island but he made time to drive out. We agreed on a price and they came and did the work in a reasonable amount of time. They even made improvements to a side garage that would leak during a heavy rain. I highly recommend Brian and his crew at Yama's roofing.

I wish I could give them a NEGATIVE star review. PLEASE DO NOT EVER EVER USE THIS COMPANY! ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE service from the employees to the owner. After waiting for longer than over a month from the original appointed date for an estimate to be done on gutter installation. They finally got back to me. I didn't mind too much having to wait because I understand there aren't many companies or people to send out to do the estimates, the problem was the person in office promising to keep me updated and promising to call/e-mail me. Every time this person NEVER called/emailed me. If this person had even called to let me know that the estimator couldn't have made it out to the house it would have been fine....BUT SHE NEVER DID.This happened on 4 separate occasions when the estimator was supposed to have come to the house, each time never showing up. Then I was the one who had to keep call into the office to find out what happened! I even waited a few days after EACH time she promised to call me back to call. The real kicker is the owner, BRIAN PETERSON! The girl that I spoke to finally emailed me the estimate, the NEXT morning Brian emailed me another estimate. BOTH WERE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. the girls estimate included 4 downspouts for 1320 and his estimate included 6 downspouts for 1100. I emailed him letting him know the difference between the estimate and why I would be going with another company who is charging me MORE. He responds by calling me a pain in the ASS customer and saying that he can't compete in price with the other company because you get what you pay for. HE OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T UNDERSTAND ENGLISH BECAUSE I TOLD HIM I AM PAYING THE OTHER COMPANY MORE! SO YES YAMAS ROOFING, YOU DEFINITELY GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! BY THE WAY, he has two 5 star reviews on yellowpages.com. Those reviews were made by the owner Brian himself! There are also videos on youtube showing the bad workmanship they do. Don't be fooled.

Possibly the worst experience I've ever had on this island. I got to Frank through the original…read morebuilder of the house. Frank did a few small repairs, which he did professionally, albeit at highly inflated prices. I needed the work done and I trusted my builder to give me someone reliable. When I had to repair the tar/gravel roof over my lanai, I put it out for 3 bids and Frank was the highest by quit a bit. However, my father was dying on the east coast and I wanted someone I thought I could trust while I was away. HUGE MISTAKE! When I got back, he said the job was done (and bad on me), I trusted him. As it turns out, he just sprayed some epoxy over the crushed rock, never removed it, charged me for additional material as well. When I finally went on the roof, I realized there was no silicone sealant that was ever put down and the material magically disappeared (15 gallons worth about $1,400). Of course the manufacturer wouldn't honor the warranty when the product was never used. I wound up hiring someone to remove the old gravel, power wash the roof. I sealed the 1,000sq.ft. roof myself with epoxy and put down the sealant myself. It took an additional $10,000 and easily 80 hours of my time to get the job done properly. This guy is a total scam artist who will go on and on about what a devout man of the church he is. I'm not into that stuff but believe in always being fair, honest and ethical. This guy is none of these, and I still have a pending lawsuit that I will pursue eventually. If there is a special place in hell for unethical contractors, this guy would go there as a supervisor. 10,000% HORRIBLE!!!!!

July 2015 my roof was leaking. Called Frank Torres of Torres Roofing many times with reply he'll…read moresend workers to check. Had to call numerous times, finally Clyde (worker) comes and said needed to order 20 roofing panels with flashings. Contract sent on Sept 1, 2015 where I had to put half down before they order roofing. Sent check for $650.00-total job was $1208.00. Waited 4 -6 months with no Torres communication on when job to start. Kept callling Frank (who by this time forgot he cashed my $650.00 check) and told him he has to come fix my leaky roof. After literally begging Frank to come and check roof, he himself, came and couldn't find problem. After continuously calling Frank, he finally sends Clyde again to find leak. I put the sprinkler on roof and Clyde couldn't find leak. I told him to check between the roofing seams above the leak in the house. He finds the leak in between the seam. Goes in his truck gets a half used cartridge of black tar and seals seam. No leak to this day! So I'm thinking I'm going to get a refund from my $650.00 because half a cartridge doesn't cost anywhere near $650.00! After 2 months Frank calls me and says I never paid him for fixing leak. I replied you never gave me a bill yet. I was waiting for it so I could subtract my $650.00. When I told him (which was a mistake on my part) I think you owe me instead of I owe you because you cashed my $650.00 check (a transaction he totally forgot about), he says he'll check and get back to me. Two months go by -no call-I keep calling asking if he checked yet and his reply was always no not yet. By this time, I've had it with this Bozo! I call Action Line and right away he calls me and says "I have no heart" to turn him in to Action Line! What kind of monkey business is this roofing company! If you can't run a business properly "GET OUT"! Begining of Dec 2016, he says he's charging me $500.00 for sealing the seam with a half cartridge of black tar! That's right! $500.00!! He said he'll send me a check for $150.00. It's January 2017-NO DAMN CHECK!! Do not do business with this company! The owner is very difficult to deal with and is definitely not a businessman and surely doesn't know how to run a business - not even a lunch truck business!!
