Went late on a Sunday night. Only had two waitresses on. Took forever for service, although there was a large table of 10 but still. Ordered a dinner combination. They have variety of Thai, Chinese and Japanese food to choose from. Servers are nice enough, seem frazzled with the large tables. Food was good, but I've had same quality type food for cheaper. Maybe because it is in the interior. Either way, made my tummy full!

Yamato serves Vietnamese and Japanese in the heart of Kelowna. One of the guys I golf with comes up to Kelowna a lot for work suggest we give Yamato a try. I have to admit I was a bit weary... what kind of good Asian food can one expect in Kelowna?! It's no Vancouver! Well I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Yamato was pretty good. I had a BC Roll and their Big Noodle Bowl. I wanted to try something Japanese and I wanted to try something Vietnamese! Both dishes were good! I would say anyone who has a hankering for some decent Asian food when they're in Kelowna should give Yamato's a try! I think they would be pleasantly surprised. Hard to believe that you can find decent ethnic food out in a small town like Kelowna.

The so called Special Maki Spider Rolls that are a sin against real sushi.

Since After searching on Yelp ... we came with anticipation and we were totally blown away with their various dishes!! The dining room is bright and has a youthful ambiance! I always have a soft spot for Ma Po Tofu ( a Szechuan Spicy Tofu dish ) and I am happy to report that it was super delicious ... too bad it was only two of us and we couldn't order too many other dishes! But I am glad I ordered my fav dish! The Spicy Wonton is also done just right, not too spicy and the filling still very juicy and the wonton wrappings were super smooth in texture! I also liked their version of Singapore Style Fried Rice Vermicelli .. not greasy at all and have the distinctive " Wok Hei"! Overall, this is a great addition to the local Asian food scene, run by very friendly family ... in times like these, its important to support small local business! Since its just across from the Kelowna Airport ... its super convenient to hop off the plane and order yourself authentic dim sum and enjoy some fruity green tea!!

Happy I called to verify whether dim sum was avail on a Sunday morning (website states 4-8:30). Quite happy they serve congee (chicken or pork w/ preserved egg), which satisfied my "Chinese craving". Dishes we ordered satisfied our dim sum craving...flavours were okay, but definitely the place to go in between visits to Richmond or Toronto. Service was good, considering they were busy, and it appeared the lady was running around with more haste and expertise than the young man. Having grown up in Toronto and had dim sum from San Francisco, Vancouver, and Hong Kong, this place may not be best in comparison but love that they are avail to satisfy that dim sum craving while in the Okanagan! This is a rating of 3.5.

It felt even thicker and less desirable on the prawns. However, overall, it was okay. The seasoning on the fish was light, barely noticeable. With that said, dipping it into the addicting tartar sauce made it more enjoyable. We liked the sauce so much that we ordered a few more at $.50 each. Between the two fish options, I love the tenderness of the cod, but really liked the meatiness of the halibut. The prawns were not very good imho. The chips were crispy and quite good, but the New England Clam Chowder needed more clam flavor. Service was a bit odd. The Korean lady starts off by saying that they don't serve parties larger than four, but will make an exception, though there was a round table clearly large enough. A party of five came later and they had to split up. Why couldn't she simply add a chair for them at the rectangular table for four? Furthermore, she told us that "It's not dim sum." Guess she is telling us to order enough food and don't share one or two items between us because we are Chinese? We certainly took some offense to that comment. Towards the latter part of the meal, she got somewhat friendlier. Not as amazing as I had hoped from seeing the Google and Yelp reviews, but still one of the better casual eateries out here if you don't mind some "interesting" conversation with the owner.

We all loved the fries while my wife and I also enjoyed the apple-coleslaw. Best of all was the fish. My wife and I really enjoyed our two pieces of cod which was more than enough for each of us. The 6yo loved his one piece of halibut. Each basket came with a bit of fruit and some pickle slices, which is rare in the states. Service was great and they took care of everything. They wouldn't let me clean up the table.

May 19, 2017: Came again on a Friday night, tried two different items this time from last time…read more There wasn't anyone in the restaurant at the time(8pm) but they were super busy with takeout and delivery orders. So my suggestion is if you want to do takeout: call and order ahead instead of walking in and waiting. What we had: Vegetable fried rice, Chinese vegetarian delight, Spicy squid and Singapore fried noodles (without pork). We hadn't tried the spicy squid or Singapore noodles here before and they were both really good! I don't really eat seafood anymore but I tried a bite of the spicy squid and it was yummy - lightly battered and fried tossed in a savoury seasoning and some chilli flakes. The Singapore noodles were yummy and flavourful. I forgot to ask for no egg since I don't eat it but i ate around it and was yummy and I would order it again. My fiancé really enjoyed both dishes and said he would order them again as well. _________________________________________________ May 10, 2017: Ate here today for the first time, I'd rate it a 3.5. Was surprised when we walked in. Had been avoiding this place because of the exterior look, the strip it's in just looks old and dated. But anyway the interior looks like it's been updated and it was clean. And they have large round tables, so they can accommodate big groups. We ordered: veggie fried rice, Chinese vegetarian delight without tofu, and ma Po tofu without meat. Was also really surprised by the food. The fried rice could have used more veggies but the seasoning and flavour was good - it had that smokey wok fried flavour and I enjoyed it. I really liked the Chinese vegetarian delight, it had glass noodles, mixed veg and was in yummy sauce. The ma Po tofu was good, too spicy for me but it'smy fiancées favourite dish and he lovessss spicy and he enjoyed this dish a lot. Service was good, the girl was friendly and nice. Will be back! My suggestions would be: get rid of the purple chairs, maybe add some tall plants or something in the corners, get new signage made to attract new customers, ask the landlord to repaint the green exterior a different colour to make the strip look nicer and less dated, play some light music.

We had the chicken chow mein and sweet and sour pork with pineapple. The sweet and sour was fairly good - tender pork in the usual bright red sauce with lots of onions, peppers and a few pieces of pineapple. I found the sauce too sweet for my taste but the kiddo liked it! The chicken chow mein was just okay, thicker noodle that was too soft for my preference. I'm used to a drier , thinner noodle that has some crunchy bits to it. I guess when compared to Vancouver's chinese food, it's not quite on par! Well, points for being fairly quick, easy to order online and decent portions. I'll have to try more dishes to get a better sense of what this place has to offer.

We called the restaurant to let them know of the error, hoping we could fix it because we had a rather large party, and as we don't live far so would have made a second trip. When we told the guy who answered the phone about the mixup, we told him what was in the order we received and he replied saying "you did not" get what we clearly had laid out in front of us, and proceeded to argue and tell us what we did actually get, according to him. Interestingly, we hadn't identified ourselves yet at this point, so i dont know how he knew what our order was or wasn't. We said we ordered 2 orders of 2 of the dishes and instead got 1, with 3 of the other kind, clearly a mistake and not what we ordered. We told him about the missing side items and sauces and he just argued saying we were wrong and it was all there. I've never been treated so poorly. If you want good Chinese food, there are much better places than this, and you won't have to fight with the staff to get what you want to order.
