First experience inside rather than take out. I really liked how they had a changing table, high chairs, and even booster seats. It was very cold inside to the point I kept my beanie on and used my hoodie to cover my hands when I wasn't eating. My son got the clear soup and ice cream and they were good. I got the Kittanning roll and was disappointed that the cream cheese wasn't consistently throughout the roll so some had some and some didn't. The staff were very polite and attentive though, overall, it was a good experience. read more

VERY friendly staff! I was there for a quick dinner. Being from the Pacific Northwest where seafood and great sushi abound, I have been searching to find a quality spot for sushi. Because no one in my family likes it, I had a window of opportunity the other night to finally indulge myself. I mentioned that I was dining alone and was "on the clock." My plates arrived in a timely manner, but not rushed. The food was outstanding- generous portions of ginger and wasabi. Beautiful pieces of sushi and very fresh ingredients. My server was very accommodating and invited me back when I had more time to dine. Pricing was very fair and I will definitely return soon. read more

We had an absolute horrible experience today, we left without eating. I watched atleast 10 people get their food that came in way after us. ZERO manager intervention, not an apology from the manager or anything! the waitress was super upset I asked for the check and she said ok then I looked back and she was standing over in the Corner texting on her phone. Arriving in town about 90 minutes early for a meeting, I thought I'd take a chance on Yamato. Honestly, good sushi can be elusive in the biggest cities (outside Asia, anyway) so I was very pleased with what Yamato had to offer. I started with hot tea (no sake; remember - meeting!), miso soup and a combination plate of five pieces of nigiri and a California roll. All right, a little pedestrian, but I was playing it safe. The soup was good, but the nigiri were the stars of the show. The roll was good but nothing compared to the fish, which I have to confess I was a little concerned about. You see, it was a Tuesday and they're closed Mondays, so I wondered whether my fish was procured on Friday of the previous week -- or maybe earlier. No matter; they obviously know how to handle it well, and it was fresh and flavorful, without any of the fishy taste that comes with age. The only reason they didn't get five stars is because the hostess seated me right next to a group with a child, despite the restaurant being practically empty. Not that I dislike children but I was hoping lunch would be a more adult time. NOTE TO RESTAURANT: Leave an empty booth between guests when you can. It's only a couple of extra steps for your servers, and your guests will thank you. If you like sushi, I'd say give it a try. read more

Updating this to 5 stars! This place has been around for a few years now since my initial review and we've continued to eat here each time we're in the area visiting family. It seems like it's got even better over time. I've been able to try a few items beyond just the sushi (Rice, Hibachi, etc.) and it's been consistently good. This last time around I had the sushi again and it was much better then I remembered. Lots of vegetarian/vegan options, friendly staff, and a well designed interior help too! For that reason I've changed my tune, I would recommend going out of your way for it. read more

Amazing service and food! Came here for dinner and got amazing service! The restaurant had a nice calming ambiance and wasn't loud either! The server checked on us often and made sure we didn't have dirty dishes on our table. One of the best sushi restaurants I have ever been to! I am from Florida and eat fresh sushi 1 to 2 times a week and I was up here visiting and decided to try it out. I've never see a Sushi place like this it's a big open room with a small Sushi bar. The place was clean and the sushi chef had a Batman hat on I like Batman. Ok so I'd like to do 3.5 stars but I don't have that option. I've eaten here a multitude of times now and the food is usually pretty good with a few exceptions here and there. I'm really happy to have a sushi place in kittanning, I split my time between kittanning and Pittsburgh and the quality of the sushi rolls compares pretty well to a few of my favorite places in the city. However the service is generally not that great from my own personal experiences. Where I work frequently orders take out but sometimes they don't answer the phone unless you call three or so times and one time they just took the phone off the hook and never answered but we could hear stuff going on in the background. Every single time I've ordered take out for myself not at work they've forgotten a sushi roll even after insisting that everything was in the bag. And customer service is less than friendly when I have called back to let them know they forgot something. Also when it's busy there's only one guy taking orders for the whole restaurant every time I've been and I know he's doing his best but they really need to hire another server. As a customer trying to support local businesses and as someone who has worked restaurant in the past I want to give a more positive review but while I think the food is great the service and organization needs some work. read more

The hostess on the other hand is not being utilized well. More worried about Facebook. She seats people and checks them out. First off if you associate kittanning with below average food, you haven't been there in a while. Yamato, A Mano Eatery, and Vic and Nicalena's are three top notch restaurants and all reside with in kittanning. Yamato does amazing things with sushi. I have tried a number of their rolls but recently have been addicted to their spicy maki combo. It is always super fresh super tasty and man are the portions amazing. The young girl that waited on us each time is an amazing server and really makes you feel welcomed. We have gone there several times and each time my wife and I get several rolls each as well as an appetizer and still leave for under 40.00. Try to do that at any other sushi place of similar quality and you will spend far more. We have had sushi all through the Pittsburgh area and I would put Yamato up against any of them in terms of quality. This is a must visit place if you are in the Kittanning area or if you want to travel a bit to try some great sushi. read more

For the town of Kittanning, this is like the most high-end place there ever was and ever will be. The food is super fresh, the services can be a little slow when they get busy as it only seems to have two servers. However, the food is exceptionally fresh and tastefully presented. I like to stick with Ramen noodles, which are spicy and delightful, and have lots of little goodies hidden in the broth. I tried scallop Nagari, and it was way different than what I expected. I like to stop there when I'm in Kittanning, because I know the food is always very good, the prices are fair, and I will not get sick. Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the bento boxes. read more

I want to start this review by saying one thing; Yellowfin Jalapeño! I get it every time I am there! Excellent!! I have had several other sushis as well everything was super fresh. The other thing I get a lot is the beef bento box. The beef is not random meat chunks, it's a steak cut into strips. The box has a variety of awesome things in it. We ordered take-out last night. 3 steak bento boxes, and sweet potato & shrimp tempura roll. Oh my!! The bento boxes were excellent! The steak was cooked perfectly - it was a whole piece of steak, cut in thin strips. So tender and such a good flavor. The rice complemented it perfectly. Also included were: a spring roll, 2 gyoza and 2 ebi shumai! All very tasty. And miso soup!! The prices were excellent for the quantity and quality of food! We will be eating there again! read more

I order from here about once a week, generally. I always order 2 chicken hibachis (one for me and one for my fiancé) with no miso soup. It's always good every single time. It only takes about 10 minutes for the food to be done. By the time I get my shoes, coat, and purse on I just walk down and pick up my food. For myself personally, one hibachi chicken dinner is 2 meals. I just split it up and eat half one day half the other. I love ginger, so I think the ginger dressing for the salad is super good! This place is my go to when I don't feel like cooking or going anywhere. I highly recommend the hibachi dinners! read more

Excellent! For just opening, the staff did a phenomenal job! The Hibachi dinners were made exactly like Ichiban and Nakama. The only negative I have is these dinner do not come with noodles, but you are already getting enough food for the price of the dinners. Noodles are an additional $2. Salads are great with the sweet ginger sauce; however, the soup is made differently with bits of tofu. The best time to order is for lunch when prices are very, very reasonable. I am very pleased!
