Yanagi Kitchen Redondo Beach has a shared free parking lot directly out front. They told us it would take 10 minutes and they actually were ready in 5! I felt like the fish was all very fresh & delicious. They give you ginger, wasabi, soy sauce and two very nicely packed chop sticks with napkins. For the hand rolls, they have add-on options, and I went with a phenomenal Salmon Hand Roll ($6) with avocado (+$1.50) and cucumber (+$0.25). I also loved my 8 piece Sushi Special sampler ($18.95) with came with 2 tuna, 2 yellowtail, 2 salmon, and 2 albacore. The sushi was nigiri style, with a slice of fish served over a bed of rice. At the Straw & Spoon on Artesia, they let us eat our sushi from Yanagi Kitchen on their patio since each we ordered drinks from them and they're in the same plaza, and it was a perfect combo. Overall a good "to go" takeout only, but not a dine-in spot as it used to be many years ago at a close-by location on MacKay Lane and Artesia Blvd a block away. The sushi is decent for a pick up spot. This was perhaps my 3rd or 4th visit. It's quick and has dependable sushi. However, the service at my recent pick up is the type that makes me concerned for humanity. The person at the counter lacked communication skills, any sense of service, had no cheer whatsoever and tended to make things more difficult than they seemed. Clueless to the point she was rude. I had to speak for her. It was sort of like a guessing game. I asked questions and she said yes or no and sort of eye rolled. I question management because after one hour at the counter I'm sure they could tell that she would be much better in a role that does not involve any interaction with clients...because sadly, this client will probably not revisit. read more

First visit since they closed their dine in restaurant years ago. A friend mentioned their California rolls have real crab - I happen to have a guy who loves those simple rolls. The So Cal fires caused my schedule to hiccup, so take out sushi sounded like a great idea. Yanagi Kitchen was on my list. I was fully prepared for subpar sushi and soggy tempura. I was wrong! The 8pc sushi special was good, fresh and enjoyed with shoyu and wasabi (glad I ordered extra, we like it spicy.) He loved the blue crab California roll and I have to admit, it was yummy. The 6pc shrimp tempura, mixed veggie tempura and potstickers were all fantastically crispy. I ordered extra spicy ponzu to mix with the tempura sauce and all of it was super delicious. He slurpped a miso soup and I nibbled on pickled ginger. Both of us agreed if one must do take out sushi, Yanagi Kitchen is the place to go. We were there before our reservation because they texted our table was ready 30 min before the reservation. We went, then waited over 30 min to be seated. Took 2 hours to get food, we were there 3* hours! Food was good, our chef did the best he could, but manager copped that it was "corporate" that made them work as they did with long waits, short staffed. Downgrading to four stars because the app is unreliable, and I had to fight to get the food I ordered and for which I had already paid. I ordered via the business' own app today, which I have done numerous times with no problem. Today I ordered with a 5pm pickup time. The app took my order, the business sent me a confirmation text, and the business charged my credit card. But when my kid went to pick the order up, it wasn't there. They asked to see a screenshot of the order, which my kid did not have. So I went there myself. I showed them the order confirmation in the app. And the text confirming my order. I advised that I could see through my bank app that they had already charged me. They were nice, but they seemed helpless. They kept telling me that they should have received an order slip on their end but had not. We went back and forth like this several times. Finally, I said, "So what do we do?" They called their boss, who confirmed he could see the order on his end. So they finally started making the order. In the end, they were nice and apologetic and offered me a free miso soup (which I declined). What a hassle. As soon as I showed them the order on my phone (which was in their own app), they should have started making the order. It wasn't my fault that their system wasn't working, but they acted like I should have just shrugged and gone home without my order. I understand that things sometimes go wrong, but the recovery matters. I shouldn't have to argue with them or ask "What do we do now" to get them to call their boss. We were really looking forward to tonight's sushi dinner--a special award my kid picked for a job well done. The crispy rice tuna had mushy deep fried rice and I did not like the consistency of the entire thing since the tuna is mushy as well. The salmon combination was fine. I'm not 100% certain on why everything was so bland even with soy sauce, but I'm thinking they don't season their rice enough. I got the spicy tuna on crispy rice and the eel avocado roll and it was definitely worth it. The spicy tuna comes with 5 pieces and it is worth the$10. It comes with its own sauce. The menu had a lot to choose from, and although I rarely crave california or spicy tuna rolls, this seemed like the perfect time, especially since It was going to be to-go. _Tuna Sushi Special ($21) 5 pcs tuna sushi and 8 pcs spicy tuna roll. I generally don't care for tuna sushi, so for me this was okay. The spicy tuna itself was nothing to rave about. _Salmon Sushi Special ($18.50) 5 pcs salmon sushi and 8 pcs of salmon avocado roll. The salmon sushi was good and fresh. I actually was more into the salmon and avocado roll. A bit heavy on rice than what I prefer but still good. _Caterpillar Roll ($14) Eel, cucumber, topped with avocado. Served with eel sauce. This was actually a mistake on my part. I meant to get a Dragon roll, but miscommunication and got Caterpillar instead. The eel was good, and I was happy to see how generous they were with the avocado. The eel sauce was on the side which was great since I always find the sauces too heavy when dining in. _Baked Blue Crab Roll ($13.50) Baked blue crab, spicy mayo, scallion wrapped in soy paper. Cut to 5 pcs. This was good, and probably my fave out of everything. Fair amount of blue crab and the flavor was light. I would order this again. _California Roll ($6) Crab, avocado, and cucumber. The california roll hit the spot. Good ratio of crab, avocado and rice. I could have used a little more cucumber, but still a solid roll. I drove all the way here because the "restaurant" was rated very highly on Yelp and came up #1 in the area I was in (I came up from San Diego), only to arrive at a door with a card table and no seating ... I was told very rudely that they ARE NOT a restaurant and that they only do takeout. I previously put a review about this interaction with the staff and the business asked Yelp to remove it saying it was "not a genuine interaction". The business refused to serve me. This is a legitimate interaction even though I did not purchase anything. Yelp needs to also update this listing as a catering service and not a restaurant. This is our go to place for take out sushi. They have a nice set up with a table and cashier right at the front door so you can wait for your order in the car, or order online in advance and pick it up right in the parking lot. The parking lot has been busy every time we've gone for takeout and the fish is fresh. Some of our favorites include the Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice (which is always crispy, even after the drive home) and the Honey Salmon roll, which is salmon & crab (that substitutes for rice) . We'll also get the 8 piece sushi for a little variety and add a couple extra nigiri depending on our mood. It's always dependable, reasonably priced for this area, and fresh. read more

Unexpectedly good sushi spot, stumbled across it kind of on accident but will definitely be back. Parking was easy as they have a dedicated lot and I sat at the bar and ordered from the sushi chef. Perfect date night spot. The highlights were definitely the blue crab hand roll and salmon sashimi, the soft shell crab appetizer and the spring roll were solid, but would probably try something else next time. I'd like to say that the meal was memorable, however, it was passable. I was expecting more but we are away from the trendy area on Redondo Beach. Yanagi is a small standalone building with a small amount of seating inside. Several people were seated at the sushi bar and the other dozen-ish customers were seated at small tables. This is another Korean run place (as I find most sushi places to be) with the vernerable and older chef weidling the sharp knives and young ones doing the serving duties. The service is good and attentive, the ambiance is good, but the freshness of the fish and taste of the food was off for me. I question the freshness of the sashimi and I found the tonkatsu to be overly fried causing it to be a little too dry. I was without a car at the time (WTF? No one walks in California!) Yeah I know so I needed to go somewhere within a half mile from where I was staying. So it was here...if I was mobile, I would have probably drove a few miles towards the beach. Cheers. read more
