Intimate sushi spot in a quieter area of Redondo Beach. Went for dinner during the week. Parking is a bit tricky as there is tandem parking in the back - so need to be conscious on how you park there. There is street parking not too far from the restaurant as well. Sushi quality is pretty good, just a little pricey. They have an omakase situation, but wanted to know what fish was part of it - but were unable to let us know, so ended up ordering à la carte (which is fine). Also ended up getting dessert (crème brûlée), which was ok. If I lived around the area, think it's worth going back as there aren't many sushi spots there - but probably wouldn't trouble myself coming to Redondo Beach for it. read more

First, this is not a "drop in" sushi place for the noisy American family of four. It's not a revolving sushi store. I'd recommend a reservation. It's also not an upscale, suit and tie, place. Come as you are. I'd just get the omakase. Chef's choice. You'll get a wide variety is fine sushi and you'll have a comfortable portion in your stomach. Hot house sake is great too or the plum wine. Kurisaki is a very good sushi restaurant in the South Bay. It tends to serve more traditional sushi (primarily nigiri and sashimi, with some very basic rolls and small cold and hot dishes). To me, it fills a spot between your higher end sushi places (like Sushi Inaba or Sushi Sonagi), your non-traditional omakase places (like Bar Sushi Hermosa), and your more Westernized places that offer lots of non-traditional rolls (like Flying Fin and Japonica). It's closest comparison is Sushi Chitose or even Sushi Nozomi (although both have larger menus). Food: The sushi is fresh and well prepared, albeit straightforward and typical. The size of the nigiri is smaller, but the fish to rice ratio is appropriate. Service: The service is friendly, but can sometimes be a little slow with a single server. Bottom Line: A solid sushi restaurant that serves good sushi. It doesn't have a large menu, and the food is relatively simple and straightforward. Again, it tends to be a more traditional sushi restaurant. Kurisaki does offer an omakase menu which was approximately $125 when I was last there. Some may think this expensive for what you get, but it is reasonable when you consider that many omakase menus now run in the high $200's and low $300's. read more

You have to go. Unassuming entrance. Very humble dining room. No sushi bar seats. I've had the Michelin Omakase in Santa Barbara. Just saying I've had high quality fish. This is the best I've had in the Southbay and maybe top 3 in LA in my 15 years here. I'll admit I ordered only 3 items, but you can tell. salmon nigiri- must have been belly. Tiny bit of wasabi they added. Outstanding. Scallop cut roll- excellent rice. Warm toasted nori. Just enough flavor in the scallop and mayo. Not overpowering. A great balance of all ingredients. Spicy tuna crispy rice- a common starter, although not traditional, but when done right, it's very fun. They put a s'mores-like build your own twist on It . Great idea and great quality. We went to Kurisaki on a whim for dinner, with our two kiddos. While this is not necessarily a flamboyantly upscale restaurant, there is a sense of stuffiness that I sensed. I'm not sure if it was because our kids were being "kids"or another reason, but the waitress took a while to warm up to us. The service here is incredibly slow. So, if you do have kids with you, prepare yourself to bring a ton of distractions. I honestly would not recommend this place for kids lol. The fact they have one highchair for the entire restaurant makes a statement about how they feel about kids lol. Our bill was around $400, and I left the restaurant still hungry. I've been to other pretty amazing sushi restaurants, and I would say that the quality of this place is similar to a place like Sushi Ken in Torrance, which costs half the amount of money. The kids and I really liked the crispy rice tuna dish, the mushroom miso soup, and the tamago was really good. We got the miso cod dish, and while the presentation was great, the flavor of the sauce was so powerful, you would definitely need a side of rice to go along with it. It honestly, was not my favorite. We got some toro and that was excellent. We got the cucumber salad, which was also really good and flavorful. While the food was good, for the price point, slow service, and overall stuffiness of the restaurant, I would not return. read more

Kurisaki has grown to be my favorite for sushi restaurant in Southern California. Chef Kurisaki takes great care in the preparation and we tried his Omakase and each piece was carefully prepared and presented. Although he has trained at Matsuhisa his style is not similar. He presented sushi that is classic Japanese as if you are in Japan. The food kept coming out and we were very full afterwards and the price point was proper as well. Our absolute favorite sushi restaurant in South Bay by far! It's not cheap... We only go on special occasions or on our date nights. We always get their sushi omakase. Every course is SUPERB and most if not all of their fish comes from Japan. Service is always excellent, each course is timed perfectly and the fish just melts in our mouth! There's parking in the back but space is limited. Street parking always works too~ The only negative is that we miss sitting at the bar... I have been promising a friend for some time that we'd celebrate his birthday by indulging in a high-end(ish) omakase dinner. We were amped up at the thought of fine dining!--then the lockdown hit. Years later (12/27/23 to be exact), I made good on my promise. Based on past reviews, location (and price), I settled on Kurisaki. That was the best decision I made in quite some time. We were treated to the most delicious, freshest, and silky-smooth sushi we have ever had. My Japanophile buddy attests to my claim--and he visits Japan twice a year for his bi-annual deep dive into the food culture, Grand Sumo, etc. The service was impeccable, with each arriving dish prefaced by brief words onto their origins. Wait-times? Virtually non-existent. So, I waffled a bit on whether to come clean re my actual experience with restaurant-grade sushi, but here goes: Prior to my visit to Kurisaki, my sushi experience was limited to party platters from Pavillions that my brother would bring to the annual New Year's day fete. I grew up on that kind of sushi, so in my defense, I had no idea what really good sushi actually tasted like. Kurisaki has raised my standards to the proper level. Thank you, Kurisaki. Ordered omakase takeout from Kurisaki for the first time, and we were pleasantly surprised. We were told there were 3 tiers of omakase, 45, 85 and 95 pp. We chose the 85 pp omakase, and to be honest, it seemed a little pricey for any takeout. But we were willing to give it a try. The omakase had 12 pieces of nigiri (including uni) and tamago custard. It also came with miso soup that was boiled with the head of amaebi. All the sushi pieces were super fresh and tasty, and what made the sushi even better was the rice. It was cooked perfectly and the temperature was just right. Miso soup was amazing too. In short, all the components were really good and you can tell they paid attention to detail. I would definitely try their 95pp omakase next time, but hopefully at the restaurant rather than takeout. I think the meal would've been so much better had it been made a piece at a time, and I can't wait til we can sit at a sushi bar again. Portion is a little on the small side for the price, but I was satisfied with what we had. I'd rather have quality over quantity, and they definitely delivered on the quality. We ordered the 10 piece sushi and hand roll dish and it came with miso soup that was hot and delicious, and a small salad. We liked the sushi so much we ordered more off the menu, and loved the eel. Kurisaki is located on PCH with a parking lot just behind. I was lucky enough to snag a reservation for a Friday night at 6:00 PM for 3 people. We all ordered the omakase and agreed, across the board, that every piece served was fresh and delicious. After going a second time, we opted for the assorted sushi meal which was 10 pieces. I would highly recommend this since it's offered at a more affordable price point while still including a great selection of fish. We ended up ordering a few pieces of sea perch and amberjack (kanpachi) a la carte which our table really loved. The kisu tempura was amazing as well. In search of South Bay omakase, Kurisaki seemed like the highest caliber option. [I-naba is only doing takeout.] At $95, it is reasonably priced, but not on par with higher end offerings elsewhere in and around LA. Currently, this is a 12 piece offering, each piece seasoned, so no need to dip or add further. Indoor dining only, with tables sufficiently spaced to alleviate any COVID jitters. The omakese consisted of: japenese red snapper, bluefin tuna, japanese amberjack, spanish mackerel, japanese baracuda, japanese golden eye snapper,  canadian sweet shrimp, japanese sardine, bluefin toro, japanese sea perch, uni from hokkaido, jumbo clam from seattle, tamago omelette. Forgive me for not relaying the Japanese names for these. The standout, by far, was the bluefin toro. Brings delight to the entire body. The sweet shrimp also merits accolades for its pleasant flavor and texture. I appreciate that Kurisaki includes Anago on its sushi menu. Unagi (fresh water eel) seems so ubiquitous these days, with Anago (sea eel) a rarity. Kurisaki is a wonderful South Bay destination for sushi enthusiasts who want to sample fresh offerings from Japan prepared with precision. read more

The fish selection is more broad than other sushi restaurants in the area, and they offer special menu items based on availability/season. The hot/cooked appetizers and entree options are just as well executed as the cold/raw menu items, however, they take a bit longer to prepare given the small staff. They have not opened sushi bar seating, so diners must order table service, and the interior probably only holds six-eight tables, so reservations are a good idea (I've seen disappointed patrons on more than one occasion). Classic, Authentic, Fresh Sushi from an amazing Sushi Chef. I am a Sushi snob so I generally call ahead and make sure the Chef has Japanese Uni, O-Toro(not chi-toro, or toro) Quail Egg, Masago. This Chef has all the fine cuts, very reasonably priced as opposed to other Sushi restaurants with the same quality of fish, I imagine due to the fact the actual lease is a little cheaper and that is passed through to the customer.
