I figured it would be no big deal and they could just re-cement it but nope--there was decay next to the gum and they had to clean it up and I needed another crown since the margins no longer match. I had to pay $240 out of pocket with a PPO insurance (weird because I never paid this much before but whatever). Today, I get a text and email stating I have a balance of $40 (again weird). So I login to my smiles dentistry account and saw that they BILLED $2443 to my insurance and after insurance, I had a balance of $40 I needed to pay off. Who bills the insurance $2443 for a cleaning, not even a deep clean.

Check your bills closely--this office is pocketing FALSE fees…read more I liked this place for their service, but they have repeatedly tried to overcharge us. Both my husband and I were asked to pay a $50 insurence "deposit" before standard cleanings. I have never been charged this so I contacted Delta Dental who explicitly confirmed to me that this is against their policy. Cleaning are always free - you should only pay deposits for other extra services after you get them. They also sneak in a $25 fluoride treatment without permission (which isn't covered by adult insurance). Fluoride is a treatment that legally requires patient permission. Even after explicitly declining it for my second visit and having it noted on my chart, they still billed me for it. Getting my refunds took weeks of annoying phone calls. On top of that, they never honored a promised $50 referral bonus, ghosting me whenever I brought it up. I won't be returning; a patient shouldn't have to constantly police their dentist's shady billing tactics.
