Our relatives invited us to weekday lunch. We're so excited to spend time with them and feast on dim sum. However, I didn't realize this location is in a seedy area of Edmonton until I saw questionable peeps loitering near the parking lot next to Travelodge. My cousin texted, "Where are you? We're here." I texted, "We are inside the restaurant." I didn't realize there's two different entrances. That's where gps led us. Best to park in the lot on the opposite side. Our Server was very helpful and offered to bring a separate menu in case we wanted an ala carte item. We're given water refills. Help yourself to various food stations. My faves were dim sum items and Deep Fried Steamed Buns w/ Condensed Milk. There were eight different ice cream flavors. Tiger tail and green tea ice cream were tasty, yet a little too soft. I loved the aesthetics of tea pot which worked in favor of keeping tea hot thanks to a mini candle. Also loved the tea which helped to cleanse my palate in between savory versus sweet. Don't remember the last time I came for the dinner buffet, but my friend & I had a delicious time! Turn up the temperature on your steam tables!!! Went here for lunch for the first time in several years. Pretty consistent, things haven't changed that much and they still have a good variety of food. But it all was lukewarm!! Not sure what the issue is, there was steam coming off the steam table but the food was not hot. Mentioned this and was brusquely dismissed by a staff member. With tip just over $80 for two adults and a senior for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon so not really cheap. At these prices it should be top quality and also HOT not lukewarm. read more

I've been to Yang Ming Buffet quite a few times, and honestly, it's pretty hit or miss. First off, I definitely got my money's worth--I ate a lot of food, more than I could even list. The buffet itself is set up really well with a wide variety of options, including both Westernized dishes and Chinese food, so there's something for everyone. That said, the quality isn't very consistent. Some visits, the food is actually really good, and other times it's disappointing--like dishes being dry or just not tasting fresh. The sushi, in particular, has never really impressed me. It's often fishy, a bit warm, or just has an off flavor. The dessert bar is easily my favorite part. There's a great selection--cookies, cakes, marshmallow treats, ice cream, jello, and more--definitely the highlight of the experience. The decor feels pretty dated, with lots of reds and browns, but it has its charm. There's also a bar area that looks cool, and they have little robots that drive around collecting plates, which is kind of fun to watch. Parking isn't great--the lot is small, has some pretty bad potholes, and fills up quickly. The location itself is a bit sketchy as well, being just off 118th. On the positive side, the staff have always been friendly and attentive. They consistently check in and are quick to clear plates, which is impressive considering how busy it can get. Pretty amazing selection and the quality of the food is decent. And you could choose from Chinese, Sushi, Dim sum, and a salad bar. Biggest issue was the food was the food wasn't hot. At all. Which makes me nervous. I am thinking it is because that we arrived there first thing and maybe the tray tables weren't heated up properly. Love the sushi and the dim sum. Particularly the dumplings. They were fantastic. Steamed rice and buns were tasty too. And it was extremely clean Service staff seemed rushed and angry though. Dessert was good and loved the ice cream bar. I haven't been to a buffet for awhile. I am impressed with this restaurant. It has myriad of foods to choose from and piping hot too. They have a full bar inside. The dining is of considerable size. I saw groups and groups of patrons dining in and incoming. The food must be good. I admit I was not disappointed. With the lunch price, it is not bad. They even served Tri - Tip. I haven't even tried all the food especially the dessert and I was full to my throat. Our server, kept on checking on us and making sure we weren't neglected. I would definitely come back. Came here for Father's Day. The area is a bit sketchy but the place was packed so parking was very tricky. Luckily we made a reso because the line was out the door. The restaurant is pretty massive, there's plenty of seating everywhere you turn. There is a very large selection of items to choose from so expect to come back if you want to sample them all. They have the standard foods/desserts that you would find at a typical Chinese buffet. They also have a dim sum and sushi section. As with buffets, the food was alright. Some of the highlights include: prime rib, snow crab legs, mussels in black bean sauce, peach/sweet and sour shrimp, peking duck, peking duck roll, red bean dessert, salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, egg tart, dim sum, fried chicken, various cakes/ice creams. Speaking of spot...it's in a totally sketch area and definitely makes you question the location...but once your inside it's huge and clean. So this might be one of the biggest Asian buffets in Edmonton currently and while it is better than some of the middle-of-the-road buffets that one could visit in Edmonton, much of what they serve is all over the place for quality or flavour. The Japanese food is quite uneven with some unexpected characteristics. The Dim Sum is definitely a highlight. I particularly enjoyed the hot red bean soup dessert from the Dim Sum section, along with the sticky rice. The group I was in found that the food was uneven as well: some of the fruit was excellent. The dessert was a hit with the toddler. The bathrooms (which were visited frequently with a toddler) included reasonable hand-washing facilities but the paper towel dispenser could have been refilled more frequently (particularly in the men's restroom) though that might just be poor timing on our part. Pricing was okay. The location includes lots of parking (on both sides of the restaurant) but some of our party felt awkward being accosted by folks in the parking area, which could use slightly better lighting. That said, this is not a super central or well-known part of town. I'm curious about the brunch buffet here but I doubt I would seek it out without a good excuse to do so. This restaurant is attached to a Travelodge which looks like it needs an update in decor. There's parking on both sides of the building and is located along 118 Ave. so it's accessible by transit. The restaurant is big and can accommodate large parties. I've bumped into someone I know every time I've eaten here! I would recommend reservations. I've been here for lunch and dinner, the price is higher for dinner but we noticed they have crab legs and roast beef in the evening. We paid $20.99 for lunch and seniors are $2 off. Two people could easily eat the "dinner for one" and be satisfied. Honestly, it resembles your typical food court Chinese which hits the spot just fine sometimes. The chow mein was delicious. Everything was flavoured nicely... and I can't say this enough, I'm blown away by the portions. I will be eating this for lunch tomorrow. I ate less than half. My ooooonly critique is that the chicken was inconsistently cooked. Some was crispy to the point of tough to chew (over-fried?) and some was mushy / soggy. But overall.... very good. Not enough to say don't order it, because I'm just picky about texture. Not a complaint from the other 4 eating it. I initially made this a 3 but as I thought about it, as I wrote... it's really more like a 3.5... and the excellent value rounds it up to a 4. For an Asian buffet, Yang Ming is most definitely the winner in Edmonton. After reading Yelp reviews and talking to friends, we decided to try Yang Ming out for a weekday lunch over Christmas Break and then for a weekend night dinner for the hubs' birthday (bring 6 full paying adults and birthday boy is free!). There's so much to try it can be a bit overwhelming but stick to what you know you will like. For example, we love good Dim Sum at Jumbo so the sticky rick and shrimp dumplings and peking duck were a winner for us here. But the American style food (roast beef, potatoes, etc.) are not palatable at all. If you come on the weekend, there will be salt and pepper squid, garlic fried shrimp, and crab! Now, we're talking! The Sushi/Maki bar has heavily weighted rice to filler ratios but know what you are taking and enjoy. I liked the tuna and salmon sashimi just fine. The wide pan fried rice noodles with bean sprouts were a favourite for our family. The noodle is very similar in texture to the Pad Sew Ew Thai noodles we love so dearly. There is a pastry section with egg tarts and rolls but once you've had these at spots specializing in these delicacies the quality here won't meet your expectations. The mixed veggies are really delicious here and I appreciated the extra options of veggies during the weekend dinner. They had a stir fried medley with several large mushroom/fungus' that were delicious! My kids love the jello and ice cream station (at least 6 flavours). And as mentioned by fellow yelper, George, the chafing dishes are small so they keep it coming out hot and fresh. I really have not run into food that sits and gets soggy here - 2 thumbs up! Overall, we much prefer sitting down and ordering at an Asian restaurant but this is a good go to for a large group of people or when you're looking to try a little of everything. I've been wanting to come here for a while after hearing all the talk about it. I wasn't very happy with the restaurant though. We came in at around 1:30 and were seated in the back room to the left. The food wasn't hot or warm at all. The won ton soup was terrible but at least that was hot. The staff seemed angry and hostile. I was walking up between the 2 buffet tables holding my plate and 2 women with their carts blocked me off and I had to scoot around them, they didn't apologize or even look at me. The place seemed loud and no one came to our table once to clean off the extra plates or bowls. When they were cleaning off tables around us they were banging the plates in the tub, I thought he was joking, it was like he was launching them into the bins from 7 feet away. Very inconsiderate. Impressive. I came for lunch (currently $16.99) and was surprised by this buffet. I was going to say "little buffet" but even during lunch this is far from little. It easily offers 100+ items including dim sum, sushi and a self serve carvery. The quality is good to very good with all items at least meeting my expectations. A few stood out. The dim sum was very popular which meant there were a number of items empty each time I went but there was always something. There was a wide variety of sushi but the preparation was a little sloppy. I know they are trying to go more rice than filling but they were uneven, piece to piece. The eight flavours of ice cream were fun. My favourite thing here was not the food. It was watching them replenish the food. As the woman went around filling dishes, she pulled out a microphone. When she saw empty containers, she would whisper the items into the mic which I assume when back to the kitchen. No delay waiting for the person to come back with a list. How awesome is that? Sushi selection was a bit limited and no sashimi for lunch which was disappointing. I would give this 3.5 stars. We came for Mother's Day dinner on the Saturday prior and the place was a buzz of activity. We parked by the hotel entrance and there wasn't a line up on that side but the other side did. It's a good thing we made a reservation for our larger party and they do have some larger tables. The chairs are pretty comfortable. They brought us water soon after we seated. We went to check out the rows of food. Lots of variety with seafood, dim sum, duck wraps, but also pizza, bacon tarts, and sashimi. The buffet space was crowded but there's space to move and not running into people. Because it was busy some of the items were running low but the staff monitoring the food levels was letting the kitchen know and some dim sum steamers were empty and no pizza either! The taste was ok for most of what I tried and it's easy to overeat at buffets so I'm glad I didn't. I would have liked to try more and maybe I'll be back in the future. Service was attentive with refilling of our glasses and taking away empty plates. When it came to paying, our server asked us how many people and what age. I went here this past weekend since my friends and I were craving Chinese food and specifically dim sum. We were on the search for a place that would be open late enough so that we could have dim sum. In our search this restaurant came up. Based on the description of the restaurant we thought - What better way to satisfy our craving then a buffet that also has dim sum?? So we ventured here. When we first arrived, we didn't know what to expect... I was not expecting this restaurant to be attached to a hotel. First impression wasn't so great from the parking lot... I think just based on some of the attached establishments, it looked a little rough. However, once we stepped into the hotel and into the doors of the buffet it felt as if we were transported to a whole different place. The buffet was HUGE and there was a wide assortment of food to chose from. Not only did this place have regular Chinese buffet and the dim sum that we were hoping for- but they also had sushi! Not just sushi rolls, I mean they had sashimi. I felt like I was in heaven! We basically ate till our hearts desire. I also had the blue bubble gum ice cream that I have not had since I was a child so that was a flavour flashback for me. Definitely don't judge a book by its cover and this place was definitely that. While visiting friends in Edmonton, AB we stopped at this busy buffet. Firstly, I would like to say the place is absolutely massive. Very busy spot as well. We were seated promptly and our server explained a bit about how the buffet offerings. She collected our drinks orders and we pretty much went to town, we tried a bit of their sushi, noodles, deep fried offerings, fruits and veggies. I didn't get the opportunity to really try everything that was offered in the restaurant, so it's on my ToDo list for my next trip to the big city. The food was good, a lot of choices to try, my best advice is to go on an empty belly. Proteins first, veggies after and carbs last. For buffet style food I have to say I was impressed . They have a lot of staff working to keep items stocked , and clean . There are so many cool food items I have not seen in buffets before that were awesome to try . I will actually Have to go back again 2 more times so I can try the entire buffet . It's so big that you can only try 20 percent of their items . The sushi was impressive being at a buffet ! The other food items were fresh and tasty . This was my first time going .
