This place was never all that great to me and has gotten worse since I left Killeen a few years ago. Their prices are ridiculous for a buffet. 3 adults (1 senior) and 1 child was $48 for dinner. We were charged for drinks whether we drank only water or not. The hot food was lukewarm to the point that the egg drop soup and hot and sour soup had that old, stale and too cold glaze over the top of it. No one waits the tables; they only have busboys to clean the tables. Shame on me, but I started wasting food just so I could feel like I got my $12 worth. This place has the standard Chinese buffet fare. Their food is pretty fresh and refilled often. There were lots of entree and desert choices. Dirty plates are taken away immediately. It is pretty clean, even the bathrooms. Prices are not too bad for a buffet. It cost $27 for family of 4 with a 2-year old and 7-year old. This has been the only place that has decent hot and sour soup for a buffet. Stay away from the sushi. It did not taste fresh or very low quality fish (may not have been sushi grade). The crispy shrimp was different from what I am used to. They used all spice in it, but it was crispy. They have several seperate dining areas which can be nice for parties, hails, and farewells. A little known fact is that this place was the site of the Libby massacre. However, that was a long time ago under a different name and management so I would not consider it a relevant consideration to judge a restaurant. read more

My family went to Yank Sing Sunday, after church, when we walked in it was very nice looking, it was very busy, we got our food and sat down to eat, we were at the table about 15 minutes when my 7 year old son said mommy look the bug is looking at us, I thought he was talking about the fly that was flying around and he said no mom it is not a fly, it was a roach, on the table just waiting for us to leave to jump on our plates. I got up and got the host, when I came back with the host, the roach was still there waiting. She killed it and I throw up. She did not give me a refund she only said sorry about the bug. So in my opinion this place is not a safe place to eat, and if you think the food is clean think again, I will never eat at Yank Sing again. The reason I'm writing this review is because they just did not care. Next time when you walk into a restraint and it is dark, look good because a roach might just be watching you. read more

My wife and I have been to this establishment twice. We feel it is a bit overpriced. If you are a majorly obese person that is more obsessed with stuffing your face until you burst, than you are with quality food, then this is for you. I was not aware that this place was the famous Lubys where 20+ people died. Don't get me wrong, the food isn't that bad, but it is not that great either. There is plenty of it, and it is usually fairly warm in the trays. Stay far away from the sushi if you have ever had decent sushi. No-one in their right mind eats sushi at an AYCE place. One great idea for this place is for them to serve beer. A Tsing-Tao Chinese beer would really help wash this stuff down a little easier. So in closing, if you are a fan of the type of food you get at an AYCE place and value quantity over quality, by all means go ahead and dig in. I have been eating here on and off for years and on occasion it has it's up's and down's. The food is good and the rice is amazing. But this makes no dent in other restaurants that I have tried such as Chen's Noodle house and Asia cafe in Austin at the Barrington Oaks neighborhood. Though those places are in Austin, they are very authentic in food and experience, back to this buffet..the staff are super friendly and always cheerful and helpful to help the customers. Dining is clean and a bit dark kinda wish they would brighten it up a bit, not to be trendy but too much dark colors can be a bit depressing lol. Its an A-OK place to go for something in Killeen..if you want Authenticity and the willingness to hold your hunger I'd go to Austin..but thats if your willing. I read that the food made some sick and ill find out later. Most of the food i had was better than asian buffet so im glad i had a falling out with them. The few times I visited I came away sick. One time they had mislabeled the shrimp and put it in the fried chick spot. It looked EXACTLY like the fried chicken was usually prepared there. So Yank Sing used to be my go-to Chinese buffet, but the past few times we've been there have been beyond disappointing. The prices have skyrocketed as the quality of food has significantly decreased. Any type of chicken with sauce on it that my husband or I tried left us spitting out globs of chicken fat. The fruit tasted rubbery like it had been left out all day, and was possibly the leftovers of what hadn't been eaten the day before. In our party of 4, not a single one of us was happy with the food we ate, and doubly so because it was so pricey. My suggestion is to order takeout and steer clear of Yank Sing. First time here with a group of coworkers. You pay for the buffet when you enter the restaurant. This was the first time I've seen this and was like "what" but thinking about how this is a military community and especially during lunch time, we want to get in, eat, and leave in a hurry if we need to do actually that was a really good idea. I think it was $10.50 or so. Everything is self serve, even the drinks. I at one plate, thirsty as heck and realized I had to get up and walk across the place to get a drink. There are people who periodically walk around to take away the dirty plates but your on your own for everything else. I only had one plate with a few random things to try it out and it was okay typical Chinese buffet. There are a wide variety of options to choose from, American and Chinese. This Chinese Buffet restaurant has been our go to place to eat whenever we are in town. The selections are all good and you get your money's worth. The table attendees are sure to pick up your used plates so that your table is always clean...clean table better appetite I think... I like the customer service. I am new to Killeen, so to say I am an expert at reviewing, especially in this area, would be to lie. I am the type of person who prefers to do some very simplified research of areas, services, and restaurants before I visit them. This being the norm for me, I did some Yelp 'armchair research' before visiting the local eateries. And quite honestly, I was surprised at all the negative reviews in almost all the places around here. I thought to myself "could all these places really be THAT bad?" The short answer is no, they're not. This is only one review of many I'm going to give to the restaurants in Killeen. Now for the actual review of Yank Sing. I'm going to start off by bringing you a mental picture of your surroundings. The lobby is grand, with interesting art pieces, fine furniture, and spacious amount of room. The ceilings are high, the color is vibrant, and the atmosphere is sophisticated, if not superficially emulated. This atmosphere carries out into the dining section, where the rows of buffets are set against the walls, and in the center. An interesting and newly preferred method is the removal of service altogether by waiters (and I'm not being sarcastic). The staff member simply brings you to your table and leaves you to your devices. I am used to buffets taking your drink order and -then- letting you gather your food. Instead, Yank Sing has a soft drink dispenser immediately to the right wall of entering the dining room. Cups and straws are also provided there, so if you want multiple drinks, go ahead. Experiment! Enjoy! As for the food.. For your standard Chinese food buffet options, this place has you covered. I've never seen a Chinese buffet with so many options! As well as your main dish combinations, they also offer you several soup choices, sushi, and a dessert tray all it's own. Now, the warning is generally to avoid all-you-can-eat sushi, no matter the place. But I am not faint of heart, nor am I a coward, and I went for it. I have to tell you now that it's not bad. Not like some people on here would have you abjectly avoid as if it were a sinister plague. To be fair, though, I admit that it was not the sushi that brought you here, and it isn't the sushi that will bring you back. It's your standard, mostly-plain, similar-to-grocery-store sushi. Blah, at best, but not Blegh. I only had the egg drop soup, and though it was on the bland side, a little soy sauce goes a long way to amp it up. I wanted to go back to try the other soups available, but I filled up quickly. I also did not get the opportunity to try any desserts. And now.. For the main dishes. Personally, I thought the food was good. ESPECIALLY given the fact that it is a Chinese restaurant. Perhaps many reviewers on here have not been to standard Chinese buffets. Perhaps some of you are picky. Both of these are fine. However, my opinion of Chinese buffets is that they are simple dishes with simple ingredients to please mass crowds. Lots of MSG, lots of fillers. Basic. This is the first Chinese buffet I've been to that creates quality food with interesting spices and herbs, [mostly] fresh vegetables, and recipes not covered in breaking, fried, or otherwise made more fattening. Of course, these food options can be found here as well, but I was overjoyed to have more than one option. There are savory dishes, truly spicy dishes, robust, sweet, and fresh flavors to be found if you are adventurous and open-minded. And in my personal opinion, they were pretty good. Nothing to go crazy over, but I left full and happy. The one real complaint I do have is of the staff that I had the displeasure of meeting. They do not greet you, they don't say a word until spoken to, and they don't even smile. They seem wholly unfriendly, at best, and they don't seem the least bit interested in providing any service, or at least checking. I know this may be condescending, considering my comment said above, but while there are customers around, you must be proactive. tl;dr? Altogether, this is a decent restaurant with good food with many options, and a great atmosphere. The price is a bit high, but with all that you're getting, I can't necessarily argue. 4/5 read more

Despite all the negative reviews, my family loves this place, (it's their favorite restaurant in Killeen) so I decided to go along with them even though I HATE buffets (except for a select few in Las Vegas). Walking in, I was impressed by how clean it was. I WAS NOT impressed by the booth we were seated at with the duct tape covering the holes in the seats. I tried the rice noodles, chili shrimp, an egg roll, green beans, a spare rib, and some sort of fried shrimp in some sort of sauce. All of the items were lukewarm at best. I did not feel too good about eating pork and shrimp dishes at a buffet that weren't piping hot. The rice noodles were mushy, and lukewarm, the egg roll was bursting with grease (and was lukewarm) as soon as I bit into it. I must say that hands down, this is the worst buffet I've ever eaten, worse than Ryan's and Old Country Buffet combined. At least those places served HOT food. On a positive note, a young man who worked there came over to the table to inquire about our visit and seemed genuinely concerned when I told him about the food being too greasy and not being hot. However, he did see the full plate of uneaten food in front of me and didn't offer a refund when I told him I wouldn't be eating anything else, but I really didn't expect him to. So with all that being said, I do not recommend this restaurant and I would give it ZERO stars if allowed. read more

I come here all the time. When out comes too Chinese buffets incurred the best one around. Its always fresh and warm. The sushi is not good though. And the egg rolls are average. Okay so I moved to Copperas Cove from California, and I couldn't wait to try out all the food places. The food I was most looking forward to was the Chinese buffets, since the one we have back home is AMAZING! So this was the first one I tried. It's not bad, but compared to the once back home, it's nowhere close. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because this is the best one around! It's really sad, actually. Every other Chinese buffet here sucks. This is the best one you can find in the area, but it IS good! The food could be a bit warmer, but that's about all. Like I said, compared to the one back home, the food lacks flavor. The décor is beautiful. Service is great. Price is great. We come here a lot. Best one you can find around here. read more

Buffets are rarely better than average, but I have to give a lower than average rating for this spot. I never expect much and would never go to buffets if it wasnt for the rest of my family. The main dish food they actually had was just ok. Several things were really good, some really bad, but that is expected. I thought it was overpriced for what they offer. I would expect to pay about 7-8 dollars for a lunch buffet of this quality, but it was 12 bucks on a weekend day and they really should have charged about 5 bucks for what we recieved. They had typical offerings of various meats and veggies stirfry- bland chicken and beef and pork, broccoli and onions and peppers- all floating in oversalted, oily sauces. Some spicy, some not. There was greasy baked salmon, plain fish fillets, plain cold peel and eat shrimp, and some fishy smelling crawfish. They had great sauteed green beans, decent lo-mein, good bbq chicken skewers, and roasted wings. The fresh fruit was minimal, hard and tasteless, sushi was tiny and flavorless, horrible fried appetizers, and desserts were prepackaged garbage. HOWEVER...ALL OF THESE ITEMS ARE MISSING: good veggies in any dishes( there was no cabbage, bok choy, snow peas, water chestnuts, baby corn, or beansprouts!!!What???), peanut chicken, crab and cheese bake, good eggrolls, potstickers, fried shrimp!!! (a buffet staple) , almond cookies, lychees, carvable roast beef or pork, scallops, real snow crab legs- if it is 10 bucks or more you need crablegs on there! or any crab entrees, not even fake crab, which i shamefully enjoy.There is also no chili garlic sauce or Sriracha sauce available or any sweet and sour sauce besides that red syrup nonsense. Your drink is included in the price, but I didnt want to buy a drink, I wanted free water, which you desparately need to wash away all that salt. The restaurant was insanely crowded, too, and no one seemed to understand how buffets work in casual restaurants. People were getting in long lines holding their plate to start the buffet, like they didn't know to go around and get whatever you want. We all don't have to stand and wait an hour so you can get rice first on your plate!!!! Ughhhh..it created this huge traffic jam that made it impossible to get to the drink station. No one that worked there was saying anything to alleviate the situation like "feel free to go around and help yourself to any item first" Or "please dont block the drink station". We were there way longer than a normal restaurant trip, almost two hours, because it was hard to get back to the buffet for anything. The whole place was sticky and floors a hot mess - no one was cleaning- Servers did not check back with us once....I will never go here again. read more
