Yankee Clippers came highly recommended to us by friends who have a large yard with a lot of planting. When we moved into our home, the previous owners had not taken good care of the plantings and everything was quite overgrown. We had a couple of guys do an initial clean up but we really needed someone who had more expertise and thus our friend recommended Yankee Clippers. They were very communicative about when they would come out, how much it would cost, and how we wanted to handle the trimmings. Four people showed up and they methodically went all around our house trimming the bushes and trees beautifully. We do not like bushes that are over trimmed and do not look natural. The team also showed us where we had invasive plants and removed them for us. Our yard now looks great. In the Spring, we will be having them come back to provide one on one lessons on how to do pruning care for our plantings. We highly recommend them! read more

Great experience from start to finish. The primary task was pruning a medium to large Tanyosho pine. Given the tree's slow growth and delicate condition, an ill-informed, chop job would have caused lasting damage--or even killed it. Tim and Johnny handled the job with care, expertise, and precision. They were thoughtful, knowledgeable, efficient, and never tried to upsell. The cost was very reasonable, especially considering it was a relatively small job that still required transportation and setup. Please note that several of the reviews here are for the wrong company and have nothing to do with the services offered by Yankee Clippers. Pool that they advertise has no water in it. Our shower water was cold...smoke detectors had no covers and when we went to the front desk to tell them the tv didn't work, the girl said..OH, it doesn't work in that room. Why would you rent it out knowing that! Also....loose columns in front of our room holding up the second floor. Overall, this is a poorly maintained place full of cigarette butt's and bottle caps that are everywhere on the lawn. read more

I live at Nottingham,it's to the point where it's ridiculous the smaller guy that's in crew , will go over the same spot several times . He'll blow directly up against doors every time and will stay there for a few minutes . Whoever this person is he needs to learn to show respect towards the tenants read more

It was obvious that yankee clippers loved and were knowledgeable about plants and bushes as their estimator named and easily discussed every overgrown bush in our yard. What I appreciated the most, in addition to the fact that they were on time and industrious, was how good they were about respecting our budget and wishes. They kept definite track of their hours and fees and kept us informed as well. Before they began, we toured the yard and talked about what I wanted for each plant. After they were done, we did the same thing. If I wanted something trimmed more, it was no problem. The house looks so much better now, neater and more presentable and I am sure the landscaping is healthier for being taken care of. We will definitely use them again next season. read more

This company had came recommended as professional pruners. I had been searching for a professional to trim the large boxwood in my front garden. This is what they did to my boxwood, cutting a main branch leaving a huge hole. When i called to complain about the huge hole in the front of my beautiful 7' boxwood it took weeks for them to come back to meet with me The owner told me "it was a mistake but did not know what to do other than replace it with a new small one!" I had to suggest they try to wire it, which they finally did. I did get an apology from the young man that butchered the shrub but not from the owner. I am still awaiting a written guarantee that they are taking responsibility if the boxwood dies. I also believe i should have received at least some repayment of what i had paid. Neighbors recommended Yankee Clippers, and I am grateful. Boxwoods were too big ever since I bought my home, but I feared killing them by cutting them back. Not so--Yankee Clippers taught me how to prune different shrubs, and they look considerably better, thriving. The private lesson is so useful to confirm what I am doing right, and to modify where needed. She also gave me "permission" to remove a couple of plants no longer doing well, and I appreciated that, too. I recommend them but with qualifications: They did a terrific job on a massive undertaking (trimming the hedges that bordered our entire yard, which ended up filling 42 lawn bags). But not only are they expensive, the price they quoted me prior to the job ($80 an hour) was less than what they charged me ($90 an hour). read more

Yankee Clippers has done wonderful pruning work for me at what I consider to be reasonable prices (although some other customers disagree, I think one gets what one pays for). Accordingly, I wd give Yankee Clippers 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that its "customer service" is AWFUL! Whoever does the organizing/scheduling/communicating is totally incompetent; a client can wait all-day for a scheduled appointment (as I did on 12-9-21), and then get an abrupt phone-call in mid-afternoon canceling the appointment, with a follow-up email scheduling another date without bothering to ask whether the new date is convenient. Short summary: if you have nothing better to do with your life than wait for Yankee Clippers to show up (and move your cars as necessary to make room for them, even if they turn out to be busy with their "priority" clients and cancel on you with zero-notice), then by all means, hire Yankee Clippers! When/if the pruners show up, they are skilled and ultra-professional...worth every penny in my judgment...but the management is grossly incompetent and presumptuous. read more

I hired Yankee Clippers to trim about 8 mid-sized rose bushes. The work was performed well. I'm sure a lot of cheaper landscapers would have just done some bad hack job. But the hourly rate seemed high ($70/hr) and the work was slow (3 hours for work that I was pretty sure would take no more 2). At the end of the day, I've got better ways to spend $200, so I'll probably just trim those bushes myself. read more

Please be aware of this company and Elizabeth Doyle. Possibly the worst customer service I have ever experienced in the DMV. I used this company for 4 years. Each year I call them and tell them what my budget is. This year I told them the budget and then they had the nerve to send me an Invoice the next day that was DOUBLE+ my budget even though the work took the same number of hours as the previous years. Elizabeth Doyle is: arrogant, snotty, and a poor communicator. She did not offer to reduce the bill or take responsibility for her error in communication. Stay away from this company. The workers are excellent, kind and polite but exceptionally SLOWWWWW. They take FOREVER to schedule and Elizabeth is a piece of work. read more

A word to the wise about Yankee Clippers. While they can do a good job pruning, they work very slowly and can be *very* expensive. The last time I hired them, I couldn't get them to schedule me as the first appointment in the morning and consequently it took them *three* trips to finish my yard as they don't work past 2:00 or 2:30. Then they charged me for the time to set up and break down each time. It cost roughly $175 to have *one* 10-15 foot tree pruned by 2 workers on the third visit. When I mentioned it to the owner, Elizabeth Doyle, she was arrogant and not at all apologetic, nor did she offer any recompense. I cannot recommend. read more

Buyer beware. We requested a quote in advance of our garden being pruned, knowing it was going to be a lot of work. Even so the final bill came in more than double the low end of the range and more than 25% over the high end of the range. In addition while we were told that we would be scheduled within a few weeks, it took two months for the first part of work to be done and then another month with three rescheduled trips for the work to finally be done. (They did not take the opportunity of this one month lag to inform us that after the first visit we were already at the top end of the range they quoted us.) Also be aware that despite the high price they do not even haul away the clippings and we had to schedule a bulk pickup with our trash company. Wish I had read the review below previously before hiring them. Our expressed displeasure fell on similarly deaf ears. Very disappointed with our experience. read more
