I am a very loyal person and maintain long term relationships, whether it's marital (31 years), employment (31 years), banking (29 years), etc. I have been a patient of Dr Yanni's for almost 30 years, so I was flabbergasted when I called the office on 12/18 to report an emergency. I have been dealing with an ongoing issue with a molar for 2 years now, and have been avoiding chewing anything hard on one side; Dr Yanni had been unable to pinpoint an exact problem and thought it was just sensitivity and recommended the usual solution for that. I have been able to manage by being careful what I chew, but on this day, I developed pain with chewing, even when I chewed on the other side, and I noticed that my gums on the affected side were swollen and red. I immediately panicked, because we were due to leave on a trip to Dallas for a week to spend Christmas with my sister in law and Family. When I called Dr Yanni's office to explain my predicament and asked if I could be seen urgently that evening or the next morning, this is the response I got from the receptionist who answered: "we are shortstaffed and overbooked". I practically pleaded for any kind of assistance and received the same exact response twice more. Realizing it was futile, I asked her if she could refer me to an emergency dental service, her response was "we don't do referrals"...I found this strange, because my dog has her regular veterinarian, and an emergency vet they recommend for emergent/after hours care, and I found it hard to believe that she could not offer the same alternative. At no point did she put me on hold to ask anyone's advice, or check with Dr Yanni himself...maybe he would have made an exception for a longtime and loyal patient? I felt all I needed was to get in, get a diagnosis and probably some antibiotics, and I could schedule anything else that might be needed, when I returned from my trip; otherwise I'd have to spend a miserable Holiday. After the 3rd "we are shortstaffed and overbooked" response I gave up and began to Google emergency dentists. Fortunately, my sister in law called her own dentist, who answered on her personal cellphone, and understanding my dilemma, she agreed to see me as an emergent, new patient the next morning at 7am! Sure enough, she saw me, confirmed via X-rays and examination that I had an "expired root canal" that had become infected and that the tooth was fractured. I felt such relief at this news because for 2 years I felt that there was more to the matter than just sensitivity! The tooth would have to be extracted, but given the fact that I was flying out the same day and flying is not recommended for 2 days after that procedure, she proposed a course of antibiotics and to do the procedure after the Holidays. It is now a week later, the antibiotics are doing their job, and I have found my new dentist, Dr Yara at Foothill Family Dental Group! I will be posting her positive review in a separate post, but sadly, after almost 30 years of going to Dr Yanni, it is time to break off that relationship. I sincerely hope Dr Yanni uses this as a teaching opportunity for his staff, because I am certain he would not condone this type of communication from his front line staff to a longtime client. read more

My insurance covers 2 regular cleaning a year and you won't do it because you want to upsell me deep cleaning?!?! That's a SCAM right there! Never ever had a regular cleaning refused. They told me that they do not do braces here and sold me Invisalign for $5000. The retainers snapped in half TWICE. The lady told me that it was "unethical" to give me the cleaning I made an appointment for because I needed a deep cleaning which is $500 with my insurance. I've expressed more than four times that I cannot afford that at the moment and the lady refused to seat me for the free cleaning that comes with my insurance while I save for the deep cleaning and $280 for the retainer replacement. Being in the dental field for 14 years and seeing the work that has been done. They don't care if you're in pain, as long as they get paid they will do whatever it takes to haggle you for more money. They temporary fix your problem and when the problem gets worse you'll be left to pay more to have your dental work the correct way elsewhere. they won't give insurance money back so now you're left with an out of pocket AND your frequency limitation is met... they took advantage of my dad and it's sad because my dad trusted them... had one bad treatment done and now he's paying for it (not even within 6 months and they couldn't take fault) read more

Dr. Yanni is sweet, kind, and funny, and he was very attentive to my questions and concerns. He takes his time to answer any questions I had and really emphasizes the importance of making me comfortable rather than fearful of dental procedures. The oral surgeon, Dr. Kweider was wonderful and was very careful to ensure I did not feel pain or too much discomfort during my wisdom teeth extraction. He made me feel so comfortable, and even cracked a few jokes to make me laugh! I absolutely love the service here and would recommend all my family and friends to Dr. Yanni. I was immediately greeted by the kind ladies at the front desk, and the paperwork was a simple one page form front to back. Josie was amazing and incredibly awesome for taking the time to check on me frequently to see if I was okay or if I needed anything. All the staff worked quickly and efficiently and explained the procedure and what to expect so they definitely reassured me that I was going to be well taken care of. I just recently switched to this office, and unfortunately they only offer ONE type of crown, and it's the most expensive one (how convenient). They don't offer ANY other type of crown expect this one.... BEWARE, they will upcharge almost $600-700 MORE than what your copay states. Would not recommend this office to anyone, a huge rip-off for crowns. read more

I had my new patient office visit with Dr. Yanni a few weeks ago and it had been over a year since I last saw a dentist so I was a little nervous, but glad to get my teeth checked out. After checking in and giving my dental insurance card, I completed a one-page front and back paperwork. I was called back right after I finished the paperwork-I did not wait at all! Dr. Yanni was super sweet and made me feel comfortable so I definitely plan on going back to his office for some cosmetic whitening too which I am pretty excited about. He is officially my dentist who I plan on seeing from now on. Overall, 5/5 stars. ***BEWARE*** my family of 5 have gone to this dental office for 8 yrs and the office manager Josie always said the office would accept what ever insurance paid as payment in full. This is why I continued to take my family there. As the out of pocket costs could be high. She charged a credit card without my permission for $50 that I DID NOT give consent for. I've had 5 star, 3 star and No star experiences here. Most of my 5 star experiences were provided during the beginning of receiving service. No star experiences include being mildly slapped in the face and jaw in response to non-existent patient resistance. On one occasion, another dentist, other than "Yanni Rafik" or "Rafiki Yanni", provided services as "Yanni Rafik" or "Rafiki Yanni". I've been coming here for years now and am very happy. It was more of an accident how we ended up here; through insurance reassignment. We gave it a shot here because we had recently moved in the area. I'm very picky with dentists and am very happy here. I have gone to many dentists and know about "upscale" dentistry; here it isn't like super high end, but I have never been satisfied with the work and accommodations at this dentist. My most current experience is that I had an accident. I broke a front tooth. it's so sad for me, as I had my teeth shaped when I had braces, so I literally have a "Colgate smile". I was devastated and in pain. When I called the emergency line, Dr Yani answered and had so much empathy for me, which definitely gave me the personal touch I needed for the situation. He reassured me over and over that he would help me out and has held his promise. When the lab sent the wrong color for the tooth, he was able to get the correct one expedited . Dr. Yanni has been my family's dentist for as long as I can remember. Every time I get a phone call or come in for an appointment the entire staff is always very welcoming and friendly. They know me and my family very well and always make me fell at easy. Even though it is the Dentist and I can't say I thoroughly enjoy going in for a visit, I can say that I'm happy to see the staff as they always seem happy to see me! Plus, I arrive knowing that they will make my experience a comfortable and pain free one. It is also nice to have confidence in them to help me when I have a last minute emergence, like chipping a tooth or unbearable tooth aches. I was recommended by a friend because my friend's mom works here as a dental assistant. The staff here isn't friendly and unprofessional here (except my friend's mom) - even for me being a referral. At the beginning when you set up your first appointment, you get a fake friendly service because they want your business. Don't expect too much from this office and I wouldn't recommend anyone here. And for charging $1,600 for 2 tooth extractions they are getting pretty good business here. My prior dentist use to be in Arcadia because I use to live in Temple City. He's retired and he doesn't even charge that much for teeth extractions considering Arcadia is in an upscale area. This is our last time at this office. read more

The office manager of Dr. Yanni is very rude and unprofessional. She is the one that sits in the little office behind the receptionist. She doesn't know how to handle people with duel insurances and turns PPO patients away. I have 2 plans, PPO for me and DMO under hubby. She did not bill the PPO on a regular basis and if you confronted her, she would snap and basically think I was the uneducated one. Guess again, I have 28 years in a medical office doing billing,and 8 years working in claims for a major insurance carrier. Needless to say the hubby and daughter had issues with her too. She is never wrong! Beware! The hygienist..Jerry is the only reason I stayed going there. But when the manager messed up and lied that they were no longer taking our DMO insurance she was totally wrong. She wanted us our of the practice as a patient. I could have continued going there since I do have PPO insurance but choose to never return. My daughter and her hubby no longer are patients. Do that tell you enough about the office manager. The other employees were controlled by the manager and they too knew what was going on but couldnt say a work. they needed their job. So sad, Dr. Yanni really didnt see his patients, the other person is right, he has other dentists working there and they dont tell you if you are new to them. read more
