Now that we have our own little dog (Roxy the Wonderdog from the original review was a loaner), I so completely appreciate Yap. They have the absolute best accoutrements for small dogs - raincoats, vests (what they call their "classic wraps"), carriers, etc. The classic wrap has been a godsend in helping to keep our new pooch's undercarriage dry and clean, plus they are sporty and super cute. We also got the only raincoat I found that protects the underside - most of them are just for the top! I never thought I'd be the kind of person to put clothing on dogs, but there are a lot of practical reasons to - Yap is highly recommended if you're going to succumb to this. read more

Despite an email from the owner/manager, Lizeth Bosch-Haber, where I was promised a refund upon returning the item (via mail, at my expense), she sent nothing. We've been using yap wraps for our 7 lb poodle mix for the past 10 years. Each wrap lasts about 3 years with twice daily use. I've also purchased a reflective raincoat here, a seat belt and even some fun "just for cuteness" wraps. I like how there is a handle on each harness and how durable they are. Plus their patterns are all really nice! I'm very happy with Yap wraps and recommend them for small dogs!! I'd bring your dog to the store to try it on to see what size they are. My dog is particularly skinney and long so she actually needs a size smaller. I was not too impressed with their website because I could not feel the fabrics and felt like the pattern selection was not as good as at the store. So every couple years when I'm in the area, I visit the store and always leave with a purchase. Definitely worth it! read more

I don't have the cute gene. I was born without it. I don't start cooing when I see stranger's babies. I don't think ruffles, flowers and bows belong on grown women. I absolutely loathe the color pink. Last but not least I cannot stand little rat dogs. I bought one of their car buckles that snaps into the seat belt buckle and attaches to the leash. Awesome concept, right? The store owner even assured me that it worked with all car types. So I took it home and gleefully tried it out in my Honda Accord. Not only did it not work, but the buckle actually got stuck. After I was finished freaking out (getting the buckle replaced would cost several hundred dollars), it took 30 minutes of wiggling the buckle and shoving a knife down it to finally get the latch to release. That's one product I'll never be using again. Oh, and the best part of all of this? They don't take returns. On top of all of this, the owner of the store was incredibly pushy trying to get us to buy things, to the point where it was uncomfortable to shop there. Everything was dreadfully overpriced too, but I suppose something has to pay that prime retail space rent. The lesson in all of this: Don't buy this product if you have a Honda. I'll be real honest with you, I treat my dog like she's my little baby. I practically take her everywhere I go. And she's no Yorkie or Pomeranian, she's a full grown Miniature Schnauzer. Yeah, 18 pounds of love. We were out in Ghirardelli Square after watching the air show at the Marina Green (a heard of people were doing the same thing). Me being the spoiled mother I am, I wanted to check out Yap. Needless to say, another dog lover suggested that I go there. So, we did. And the sales people were trying to sell me on the Yap Wrap and ya know, I just wasn't interested. I was more interested in the doggy Ugg-like shoes they were selling for 50 bucks. Yeah right, not going to pay that much. So, as I was about to stroll out of the store, everything being too rich for my blood. My bf comes out with a PuppyBjorn. No, the brand was something else, but you get the idea. This thing was amazing. The sales man was so great at selling this item to us. We were absolute suckers. No seriously, suckers. But I'm still absolutely thrilled by our purchase. The sales man puts on the BabyBjorn-like carrier on the pup. You slip it on as you would a sweater and zip up the sides. I even asked the man, my dog is 18 pounds, k realistically 20 pounds of love. He reassured me that it would hold the weight. The bf was too quick to take the thing off the pup. Somehow I cajoled my bf to put on the BabyBjorn. It was hilarious and oh so cute at the same time. So the real question is, how does the dog like it? She would definitely do without it, but she doesn't fuss in it. The sales man told me that they're comfortable in it. In all honesty, she really looked comfortable in it. I also really loved the pattern of the BabyBjorn-like carrier, which was a faux Burberry plaid. We bought it right away. Another great product they have there are their doggy bags for travel. I found one that actually fit my pup and was comfortable to carry. Man, I couldn't see myself spending more that day for the pup but a bag will definitely be essential when we travel. Life with the PuppyBjorn: It's been great. I brought it out with me to LA once and it really came through for me. I was hitting up yarn stores all over town and needed to let the pup tag along with me for two reasons: One being, I couldn't leave the dog in the car in that heat. Two, my bf was inside a restaurant telecommuting, definitely no dogs allowed there, PuppyBjorn or not. General Public Feedback: I always get the exact same comments: "Oh, look at that puppy." "Where'd you get that?" "Can I take a picture?" "Oh, she's so cute, just like a baby." "Oh, I wish my dog would do that." "Does she like it?" and "Oh my god that is so funny." My favorite of all was when someone said to me, "Is that dog real?" because the pup wasn't even fussing. My dog is already a pretty calm dog, so in the PuppyBjorn, it's as if she's not even there with me. No one ever seems to notice at some of the craft stores I go to. So, that's my review of one of the products they sell. In my description, I hope I described how well their customer service is, how knowledgeable their staff is and their level of professionalism. This is a great store to go to, just to experience their customer service. You might feel as though they're pressuring you to buy something. But you know, it comes with the territory. They really standby the products they sell and they're enthusiastic to share that with you. We were talking about buying a dog carrier for our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel our whole trip. Suddenly, there we were in Ghirardelli Square watching someone try one on. We walked into Yap, told Adam and Lee our story, and soon we had been expertly fitted for Reddington's Yap Sac. Carrying him around has been a breeze ever since! Came here with my boyfriend and my dog Percy yesterday. My boyfriend had been there before without me and had Been wanting to bring me here. We ran into the owner and her dog London on our way in and our dogs played a little. When we got into the store the other owner and their other dog Pronto where there. They encouraged me to let my dog off leash and I told them He was in tact still and would probably try to mark if I did. They said it's no big deal.....so I let him off. This store makes me giggle. My boyfriend and I came here after wandering around Ghiradelli Square. Everything here is perfect for the person who treats their dog like a little princess. I am not one of those individuals, so there wasn't really anything for me at the store. Items are pricey (I guess that's what happens when a store is located in Ghiradelli Square) so if you're willing to drop a lot of dough on your pooch, this is the place. They do have some fancy stuff. Aside from that, I did enjoy looking at everything in the store. Very friendly and helpful staff. I was told that they hand sew their halters locally. Our Jack Russell Terrier has a sad history of escaping any halter we put on him so I was skeptical that the Yap halter would work (our boy was not in SFO with us to experiment with them). Well, it works perfectly, next trip to the area we are buying another one or two! I just purchased my second Yap Wrap, the first lasted 8 years! These wraps are incredibly well made and comfortable for dogs. My dog wears hers daily for walks car trips and Bart rides, anytime she needs a leash. This was my first time in the store, and I really liked all the colors and options. They put attention to detail into the products, and have a LARGE selection of colors on clothes and really fun(ny) stuff-- like sparkly necklaces. there was even a cute dog there they were using to model the clothes, haha. I went to the Ghir. square location and the sales guy (maybe owner) was on his phone not making too much eye contact, but was incredibly nice and helpful. Also knowledgeable. And there was some lady all excited by the new raincoat, and her d*ck husband kept saying "no way, no way" and being unnecessarily obnoxious. But the sales guy stayed quiet and patient. We walked into the store with our 96 pound dog just to look around. So SO glad we did! We had been walking Eddie around all day,( as he pulled and choked himself on his neck collar.) This place is absolutely AMAZING. I've been looking for a harness that has a pouch for my dog to carry his own thing while we go on walks for SO LONG. Because he's such a unique type of dog, long body but small dog, it was really hard finding a perfect fit. I didn't have him at the store with me, but the owner Liy said that if the pouch didn't fit him, I can ship the product back to them for FREE or they can find some way to adjust it for me. I came home the next day to try it on my dog and it fitted PERFECTLY. We had to adjust the strap but it looked great and it was extremely functional. I would highly recommend this place because what they sell REALLY works. I also bought their reversible harness with a handle along with a seat belt that would keep my dog in place while he's in the car. Again, GREAT PRODUCT, GREAT FUNCTIONALITY, and DEFINITELY GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. I'm waiting for their jogging leash to come out sometime in mid April where I can jog with my dog FREE handed. Their material is made out of nylon rope, bungee cords with Italian leather and stainless steel. Can't wait . Although the cost is expensive, it's definitely worth it functioning right. read more

I have a dachshund and I've had a hard time finding clothes for him that fit. They are usually too long and he pees on the ends which is rather disgusting. So I walked in him in and Mary was very attentive. She had a little dog named Victor (I think). We tried on some Halloween costumes (this was in October) but they ran out of medium. We ended up buying a reversable green/gray wrap that fits great, he is more comfortable, and he doesn't usually pee on it. All in all a great store. :D read more

I really love this store! When I used to visit from out of town I would always stop in and pick at least something up for my dog. Now that I live in the city, it's great that I know I have a great place to take my dog with some really quality pieces. The Harnesses are GREAT! Perfect for picking up your dog or just walking it. They also have leashes, collars, basically anything you could ever want to pamper your dog. You can really tell that they love what they are doing and love the animals they do it for. I won a yap wrap in a raffle and absolutely love the product. I haven't been into the store, but love the wrap. It's a great harness that quickly velcros around the pup. It's waterproof canvas on one side and soft fleece on the other. It's really stylish and great for the cold morning and night time walks. My dog usually squirms out of her harnesses and this one stays on really tight. I love the feature of a little handle on the back of the harness that i can use to quickly pick her up when she's trying to get in trouble. I also have the lavender oil, i'm not a big fan of that product. It's very strong smelling. I haven't been to the store, so I can comment on the strong sell from the owners at the store, but I am a fan of the product and noticed you can buy them online so you dont have to make the trek to the store. read more

ARE YOU KIDDING ME???! Just happened to wander in here while doing an "SF Day" with my daughter (deYoung museum, then Ghirardelli Square for the obligatory hot fudge sundae). We live in the East Bay, so we are not tourist-types. Here are my observations about yap: Vibe: this store is either for the extremely pretentious millenial hordes who are invading SF and basically destroying it with their adolescent, self-important preening and obscene salaries, or for out of state tourists who don't mind being taken for every penny they have budgeted to spend during their vacay in the City by the Bay. Very expensive price point and an inventory of pretty ridiculous items (a front facing on-body baby carrier for a dog? Like a Baby Bjorn for humans? Seriously?!) that are just too precious for words. Also feel compelled to mention here the matching Swarovski crystal chokers to go with the little wedding dresses and tuxedos. Oh, and the nail polish in racy shades of red, black and silver. Nail polish, FFS! I just wanted to buy a harness. To walk my dog with. Absolutely geared for people who refer to their dogs as "furbabies." If you are one of those silly humans, this place is perfect for you. Me, I love my dog, but I sure do realize he's not my species. Staff: pushy as hell. Belongs in NY city. Selling used cars. Or snake oil. The young "lady" who was manning the register when I was in store (a Thursday, 4:00 pm, store moderately busy) was just shy of full on rude and she would NOT stop talking at me. The super-friendly staff helped me pick out an adorable coat for my small dog! People make fun of me for putting clothes on her, but she's SMALL, and she gets cold!!! This store has a sales person who is an absolute jerk! DON'T GO HERE!!! Today, I was at SF with my family and my cousin's family both of whom have little boys. My son is 6 and my nephew is 7. They were in front of this YAP pet store and there is a dog in front of it with a little saddle on it. My son and my nephew were drawn to it and climbed on to it separately. When my son was on it, this jerk of a sales person came and YANKED my son off the dog!!! He yelled at my son - "Get off the dog!" And my son started crying. My wife came running and told him that he didn't need to be rude and that there was NO SIGN stating that kids should not touch or climb on the dog. And that he could have told my son to get off the dog without pulling him. The guy yelled at my wife although my wife told him to buzz off! Then, she came and told me what happened and I went into the store and confronted this sales person. I told him - "No one touches my son! And there was no sign stating that the dog should not be touched!" He told us - "Get off my store!" This wasn't even his store!!! I called the police and reported this employee. The police suggested that I could file a report or file a complaint with the owner of the store as touching a child is a criminal offense. Then another person who works at the store approached me and tried to amend the situation - I told him that it is uncouth and uncultured sales people like this that should not be working at stores. WARNING: HORRIBLE LIAR owns and runs this store. Was really looking forward to checking out this store while at Ghiradelli Square, especially since we were visiting from out of state with our dog who also traveled with us via airplane. According to online info, this store is open until 9pm. We arrived around 8pm only to find the doors locked with a sign stating "Will Be Right Back." About half an hour later, we checked back only to see the lady shutting down the register and turning out the lights. At first we tried to wait until she approached the door, only for her to hesitate leaving the store until we left. Finally as she walked out of the store, I approached her to comment about the sign on the door saying she will be right back. She sarcastically and blatantly LIED to our face by saying she had been waiting until 8pm for "US", which was totally untrue. Why would a business put a sign saying "Will Be Right Back" if that is NOT their true intention? It would have been better if she had just decided to just close the store early (or in her case, earlier since technically she did close about 30mins early). I will NEVER do business with this store. Besides us, there was also another couple with dog in hand, who also came back at 8:30pm only to find the store owner closing early. I followed their directions to measure my dog and even ordered a size bigger than the directions stated because it seemed like it would be too small. So I own a Rottweiler and I was looking to purchase some doggie booties. The male owner was very rude; however, I really needed to buy my dog some shoes so I shrugged the owner's rudeness in the beginning. I was looking for some pink shoes that had a specific velcro strap to keep the shoes on. The XXL size seemed perfect for my dog's feet just to be sure they would stay on. However, the owner acted as if he owns a rottweiler (sorry but his tiny italian greyhound is not a rottweiler) -.- and refused to sell me the XXL size so instead I had to purchase the XL size (which doesn't fit because of my dog's front paws). Next thing you know, the owner was completely pushy trying to get me to purchase this leash that was a harness. The concept makes sense about doing anything to prevent me from pulling too hard on my dog with a regular leash. However: 1.) Let's be serious...I own a rottweiler...come on. Im sorry but a simple plastic/ fabric wont prevent my dog from attacking...lets get real 2.) Yes my dog may be hard to handle especially on an ordinary leash, WHICH IS WHY he has an expensive choker chain that was made to prevent my dog from being critically harmed 3.)
