We had a nice clean room and the price was very fair. The hotel was so well located, we walked to everything. The outdoor area was very cool with a fire pit, tv and smore fixings to your delight! We unfortunately had a person at the front desk who wasn't in the best mood and we felt it when we checked in. But don't let that stop anyone from staying here, we all have our days. The hotel has some nice aspects to it. Our room was large and the tub was bigger than average. They lit a fire outside at night and they provide everything needed to cook s'more's but the large fuel tank detracts from the experience. They also had a lot of candy out, which was nice. The room was cheaper than many hotels in the area and the location was great, within walking distance to stores and restaurants. They also have a designated parking area, which is convenient. Everyone working there was very nice. That being said, the hotel would benefit from an update with a little more attention to detail. For instance, the bathroom exhaust fan was dusty and there was some sloppy paint work around the towel bar, kick boards, and outlets. The hair dryer outlet was very loose and needs to be replaced. The walls are thin and we could hear the people talking in the room next to our room. The bed was very soft, lumpy, and uncomfortable. The bathroom door was swollen and difficult to close. The second floor has exposed pipes in the hallway. The popcorn ceiling in our room immediately contributes to a dated feeling. An extension cord ran from the basement under the door to the front of the building, with a series of extension cords running out front. A few upgrades would make a big difference, even if it means increasing the rate. We will look for other accommodations , should we return. read more

Great location . The staff was very friendly and helpful. We only stayed one night but we were allowed to leave out there after we checked out for a few hours to explore the town. The weather was raining pretty much the whole time so we didn't get to use the extra amenities there that seems to make this a five star hotel . For those who are interested in a family friendly hotel, this would be the place. There is a nice fire pit in the back with plenty of room to wander around and they serve a nice continental breakfast. The lobby needs some work and the rooms are okay, but the bathroom was nice with a great shower. read more

The Camden River house hotel is a sweet cozy inn with a nice family run feel to it. Upon entering the hotel they have a comfy area to sit with nice chairs and a couch if you want to chill. The staff was nice and accommodating. Our room was adequate, though we prefer a shower this had a tub. They have designated parking for guests and easy access to the hotel. Our reservation came with breakfast. Tony oversaw the breakfast set up and was so helpful and fun. He was quick to jump in and assist with anything you needed. The coffee was hot and aromatic. They had the most delicious sausage I think I've ever had and it was cooked well. They offered several breakfast options to suit everyone. One of the coolest things they have for guests is a s'more bar and lovely fire pit area at night. They had a variety of marshmallows (which I loved) and the chocolate squares were dark and rich. This was a perfect ending to a great day of hiking. They offered hot coffee in the morning as well. The fire pit area serves as a lovely outside garden area to sit during the day as well. We enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend a stop here. read more

It's spacious and includes breakfast, has a homey feel and a bright yellow exterior - probably the only thing that's been recently re-done as the building and rooms are very old. How old? The clip in the wall hair dryer will clue you in. Being old is not a problem, when the bed is comfy and the balcony cute. I was unhappy about one thing: there was no lotion! The room wasn't supplied with any and when we ran into a housekeeper on our floor and inquired, she said it's not something they stock I can't believe what I heard. If you need to use the restroom not in your room, it's in the basement, so is the "gym" and the whole floor is a bit creepy, kinda like a junk storage. Every morning, though, you will wake up to the smell of coffee and breakfast being prepared on the second floor! read more

Nice hotel just off the Main Street in the historic part of the city. Clean, comfortable rooms. I had a room right off the main lobby, but it was quiet. Easy walking distance to the park and harbor. Lots of great dining choices and shops in the area. The breakfast bar in the morning had a good selection to choose from, and the gentleman tending it kept it tidy and supplied. S'mores on the patio in the evening are a nice touch. Friendly and accommodating staff. People have noted that the desk closes at 9:00, but there is a number to call if you need assistance. I will NEVER recommend anyone I know to stay at the Camden River House Hotel. Today I planned on surprising friends that are there with cupcakes from right around the corner to welcome them. I parked in the parking lot for the hotel. There were only TWO cars in the 23 spaces there in front of the hotel. As I got out of my car I was accosted by the owner, David Dickey. Disheveled and yelling, he said it was private parking and asked if I was staying at the hotel. I said no - I am a local, but friends were and I was headed to buy cupcakes before meeting them inside. He started yelling profanities every other word that I had to move my car, that I wasn't a local because he's never seen me before. I said - sure, let me pick up the cupcakes and tell my friends and I will then immediately move my car. He then yelled horrible profanities at me and said I had to move it immediately. I turned back around to head to my car and he continued to yell. I repeatedly said "I have turned around and am going to my car, please stop yelling at me". He continued. I also told him that I was ashamed that a person in hospitality in this great town would be so disgusting with their language and behavior. As I walked to my car 3 spots over he continued to spew out the "f" word and other colorful things. It was so bad that the person painting lines on the road for him stopped what he was doing and just cowered and stood silent, and a group of stranger that were walking into the hotel actually came back out to the parking lot and stopped me as I was driving away and apologized to me, saying "I am so sorry you had to go through that! That was horrible. We are so sorry." Needless to say, I did not visit my friends there - we will meet somewhere else! read more

I had a two night stay here with my two young children in February. We had a wonderful experience at this hotel! The staff couldn't of been nicer, the hotel breakfast was amazing and the kids enjoyed the pool. My 6 year old son said he 'made friends' with some of the staff. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The Riverhouse Hotel is a bit pricey for what it is. But from what I understand, all the hotels are in downtown Camden. I enjoyed staying here: clean, spacious room; very close to the main strip but tucked away just enough to allow me to not feel touristy; friendly staff and perks like a delicious breakfast spread and s'more-making material and a bonfire each night. Now I'm just gettin' picky: the water pressure in the shower was low and the wi-fi was slow (but free). It was also difficult to find the hotel at first: the boyf and I drove in from the south and we did not realize that we needed to have either turned left on Mechanic Street (and then right on Washington Street) or left on Central Street (and then left on Cross Street, followed by another left on Washington Street). Tannery Lane, the road on which the parking lot and main entrance are located, is a one-way street. read more

Camden Riverhouse is a modest small hotel a stone's throw from downtown Camden. It is quite comfortable and comes with a very nice breakfast (waffles, cereal, breads, yogurt, etc). Though it lacks the gourmet quality of a B&B, it has something B&Bs don't have ... an elevator! So if you don't like dragging your luggage up several flights of stairs and you can live without half-a-dozen pillows on your bed, Camden Riverhouse is a good choice. Very friendly and helpful staff. This is the hotel we come back to year after year. We were excited to be able to bring our dog this year. They had a dog bed and treats for her when we arrived. The price is set well for the age of the hotel, location, and amenities offered. The staff is welcoming and willing to help have a good time. They really engage is the hotel guests and that's nice to see. My only complaint is that for the 4th year in a row, for this weekend in particular, they lose hot water for a stretch. I understand to a degree, but after spending basically two days out side, in the snow and on ice, it would be really nice to have at least a warm shower. Though, having all your guests come back from the toboggan races at once certainly doesn't help the hot water system no matter where you are. I can't wait to go back next year. It's my Camden home away from home. read more

Oh, what an experience. Let's first say, we got an upgrade to a balcony suite. Nice! The bed, comfy! The pool, nice. Closed except for weekends, but we bribed the front desk. So we got to use the pool and the hot tub! The TV, brand new. Well, now, we weren't gonna watch TV all the time, no, we will walk and enjoy Camden as usual. BUT, at 10pm, we want to watch TV. DID IT WORK? HA! NO, we had to plug it in and repplug it in. Too funny. NO really it was. My husband will put it better so I will let him write about it later! read more

The riverhouse hotel was such a cute and cozy place to stay. The man behind the front desk is so pleasant and so kind! They have a fire roaring every night with a s'mores cart that you can dive into at any point in time. Everything is complimentary, including the s'mores cart, candy jars and the breakfast! My boyfriend and I had a great sleep and an over all amazing experience. We'll definitely be coming back to stay at this hotel again. I wish I could remember the name of the man behind the front desk, but who ever he was made our stay that much more amazing! A solid 4, maybe 4.5. Clean, not outdated, great value for the money. It's been said before, but the service here is top notch. Plenty of free parking. They really aim to please. We were arriving late and they made arrangements to leave the keys and get us in late. The desk closes at 9 (a little weird) but they give everyone a key so it's not a problem. Location is great. It's downtown, but a block off the main street so it's quiet. Housekeeping cleaned the room early every day and that is a big plus. In the evening the firepit is going and they break out the smores. Free wi-fi and computers in the lobby with printers. The rooms are pretty good size, with refrigerators, microwaves and coffee makers. Nice touches. Cons:--a couple of things. with all the space they have in the rooms, they could put in safes. It shouldn't cost that much and people expect them. Also, the free continental breakfast is not that good. Coffee is seriously bad, bagels didn't seem that fresh. Need to put a little effort here. Overall, this place is great. We are locals- we live on Islesboro and sometimes have the need or simply the desire to spend the night on the mainland. The Camden Riverhouse is our first choice- bright, clean rooms, plenty of parking, within easy walking distance of the harbor and scads of good restaurants. But the thing I like best is all the little "touches". Owner Dave Dickey really knows how to run an engaging establishment... The terrific flowers and vegetables growing abundantly over every available space within 100 yards! And the cherry tomatoes sweet treats in the bowl as you check in... The numerous thoughtful efforts to run a "green" establishment- like the wall-mounted (refillable) shower essentials instead of tiny little plastic bottles. The pleasant breakfast area with maps on the wall filled with colored pins placed by visitors from all over the world...and perfectly respectable "continental breakfast". The staff is unfailingly warm, friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Not fancy, but comfortable, well maintained and attractive. Last week we spent the night, treating our visiting daughter to a night on the town. At the rear of the hotel is a patio- on one end is a tent with a large movie screen. At the other is a fire pit that some handy employee had built a cozy wood fire in. We sat around with other guests and had some wonderful conversations and free somores. What a nice thing to do for your customers! It's those kind of little thoughtful extras that make this such a welcoming place. Hotel rates in Camden in the summer are not and will never be cheap. But these are doable. Summer visitors won't know this but for year round island dwellers, Dave offers a discounted rate. During a couple of bad storms during the past few years where we lost power for several days, he slashed his prices so folks could afford to come in, be comfortable, get a hot shower, catch up on email. This place had it's fair share of positives and negatives. First, the location is perfect. It couldn't be much closer to the downtown area of Camden. Perfect walking distance from everything in the town. Second, they were actually pet friendly. There's a great little area in the back to take your pet out and we let her run up and down the halls when everyone was asleep. I didn't like that the pool closed very early (even earlier than the time posted in the room). We were really looking forward to that so it was disappointing. The front desk was already closed when we got in around 9, but they did a good job of leaving keys and instructions for us. The room was just fine, nothing spectacular but not uncomfortable. Spacious enough for all of us. This hotel did the job, but was nothing to write home about. read more

I've stayed here several times (average of twice per season) and over the last 3 years have reserved upwards of 10-12 rooms per visit for family. Today I did not stay there, but I did make the mistake of parking in their lot due to significant construction blocking other parking lots in the area. A large bearded man came rumbling out the door "You can't park there!" To which I responded: "Ok buddy, I'll be right back!" As I turn to hand my bag to my wife he yells "well F#%K you Massachusetts!" Admittedly, my license place is from Mass (guilty as charged). I decided to go in to talk to the owner, and let him know about the interaction. As I walk in I am welcomed by "that's your car, you don't belong here" I took a second and explained, "i came in to apologize for parking there, but wanted you to know that someone yelling vulgarities at me from your front door isn't appreciated" Gist of the story, after more quality customer service interaction I reminded the gentlemen of my family name and the thousands of dollars we spend each season at his location. We won't be staying there again, and I would implore all the folks that come to beautiful Camden Maine year round to avoid this location like the plague... I assure you, their lack of simple courtesy is known throughout the town and their reputation for non existent customer service is no joke. Be ware all who stay here... There are several other friendly inn's and hotels within rock throwing distance. I've stayed at all and would rather sleep in the river than ever do business with Camden Maines' Riverfront Inn again! read more

Great spot for families with small children! The hotel is simple, but clean and very friendly. Free breakfast is out early--great for small children who are not good at waiting and parents who need coffee! The dining room is open for use at other times and there is also a porch and outside area with picnic tables that would make it convenient to eat (food purchased elsewhere) at the hotel. There are a couple of high chairs in the dining room and the breakfast is standard fare that kids can easily eat from (e.g., toast, cereal, fruit, yogurt). There is a darling footbridge bridge covered with flowers and overgrown tomato plants that will take you across the river directly into town that my kids were excited to cross every time we were coming or going. Highly recommend! The hotel bills itself as a "green" hotel--it would be great to see some improvements in cleaning products and the breakfast food items to keep to this standard. read more

I reserved a room for tonight and tomorrow night and was placed in a room with access doors to the rooms on both sides of me so now I get to hear both parties like they were actually in the room with me, loud and annoying, zero privacy. I plugged my phone charger and sleep machine into the outlet on the window wall, turns out the outlet is dead, now I have to string cords all over to make up for the dead outlet. Tonight I came home from dinner with a large bowl of left overs. I followed the directions to turn on the refrigerator. Turned on the power strip made sure it was plugged in and nothing. Directions said to turn dial INSIDE the refrigerator to adjust the temp. There is no dial inside the refrigerator. Called the front desk he came up, confirmed refrigerator is inoperable. Entire hotel is booked so no refrigerator can be switched out and there are no spares. However it and the outlet can be fixed Monday, the day after I check out. So now the food I purchased will spoil and be inedible. To say I'm disappointed with this hotel is an understatement. For 250 a night I expected much, much more. Anxious to see what tomorrow will bring. read more

The staff is so very nice and accommodating, the rooms are very clean and they also have a washer and dryer on premises, Walking distance to many local and good/great restaurants. Their pricing is better than most hotels in the area The best part of all, Camp fire and S'mores every night. Come on, what's not to love. I sound like I work for them, but I don't. My wife and I always feel at home here and because of that there's no need to look any further. By the way, Grapevines, tomato plants, Sun flowers and many other flowers that the that patrons are welcome to. Run down, they stuck us in the Annex, gross. The slipcovers on the sofas had rips in them. Carpets are filthy. NO WIRELESS. Owner is cheap and kept telling us he could fix the wireless issue himself. I was so disappointed by our experience. Camden is great, just avoid this dirty trap. read more

This is my third time staying at the Camden River House. I stayed at the Inn (extended stay), in a beautiful suite - one bedroom, full bath, kitchen and living room (fully furnished). Set in the heart of downtown Camden, one couldn't ask for a better location and view. The suite was clean and spacious. Perfect for a couple or small family on vacation. The hotel and staff were accommodating and friendly. I couldn't ask for a better way to enjoy my time in beautiful Mid-Coast Maine.
