The place is super cozy and rustic - all dark wood, fire places, etc. We had no expectations going in and we were very happy with the food and the service. The chef came by and even sat down with us for a bit to give us some dining recommendations while we were in Maine - he also happened to be from or once lived in NJ like us. We each had an order of the gumbo and shared a side of onion rings. The gumbo was tasty and the perfect portion. The onion rings were also really good with the dipping sauce. We decided to share a piece of blueberry cheesecake before we hit the road and had zero regrets. It was a really pleasant meal and I would recommend this restaurant if you are in Searsport.

I'll start with the food: I am a food snob. Not a foodie.. a SNOB. When I cook at home, I use the highest quality ingredients and flavor matters. You'll never see me rave about food that contains any pre-made or processed ingredients. Restaurants are a low-profit business and typically cut corners to watch profits. So, it's rare to find a restaurant that takes obvious pride in their food and DELIVERS on that pride. The Homeport Tavern is a gem! We ordered the French onion soup and calamari appetizers and the Tavern burgers. The calamari was hand breaded and fresh, not from frozen. So delicious. The soup was the best French onion soup we've ever had - did I taste a hint of Jamaican all-spice? This tavern isn't afraid to use expensive spices to achieve ultimate taste. The burgers were to die for - incredibly fresh tasting grass fed angus, cooked to a perfect medium rare (most places can't seem to cook a proper medium rare, but the Tavern nailed it). The crispy fried piece of pork belly atop the burger was amazing - cut thick and seared at a high heat for a delightful texture and flavor. The coleslaw, obviously fresh and homemade with a poppy seed in-house dressing, was a nice palette cleanser between divine burger bites. Topping this all off is the best selection of draft beers we've seen in a while! Our server was perfect in every way. She was attentive, knowledgeable, accommodating, friendly, and professional. Top notch. Now let's get to the atmosphere. The Tavern is an adorable old Maine mixed with rustic old Irish charm type of architecture. We could hear Gaelic pub music - think minstrel - before walking in. When we entered, we saw an Irish folk band of about 6 musicians playing gleefully, which, along with the old Irish pub atmosphere, truly made us feel as if we're were transported to a time and place in folklore. The entire experience made us fall in love with Homeport Tavern and we will definitely be back again and again.

Highlights: Our room was super comfortable and big, with a couch and comfy chair section right next to sliding glass doors that went out onto a small balcony (too cold) with a beautiful view of the ocean. There is a complimentary breakfast every morning that includes quiche, in-house baked croissants, and cinnamon rolls! There is coffee and tea available all-day There is an indoor pool PERFECT for exercise and a big hot tub surrounded by big windows also overlooking the ocean. The little things that may be tiny irritants lol...We paid extra to get a king bed instead of two queens. The halls are incredibly brightly lit so if you are sensitive to lights be forewarned. The bed slanted downward toward the headrest wooohooo. The towels are made for tiny people & I am pretty small. The halls & walls play off of any sound so you hear a lot. Aside from the little nuances that didn't really bother us the room & bathroom were spotless with a bed, TV, siting area with a couch, little counter with coffee maker & mini fridge, everything you could need in the bathroom, and a lovely view of the harbor. Breakfast was delicious with excellent coffee, homemade quiches, muffins & scones & you could sit Al fresco & enjoy the morning fog on the water. A decent little place in a decent little town.

Highly recommend stopping here. We had dogs and they didn't say anything. We checked in pretty late around 11PM because we were on a road trip through the New England States. Check in/check out process was super easy. Breakfast was light and comforting. The view from the breakfast area was very peaceful.

Judy and Ed, the owners, held the door open for us as we approached the entrance. The lobby had beautiful chandeliers and fall decor. We pleasantly chatted about how similar MN and ME are with them as we checked in. We received a pair of actual keys to our room, which was a refreshing escape from electronic this and selfie that. Since we were only in town for a night, we stayed in a double-queen room instead of a full suite. We had our own separate entrance to the room from our own private patio area, which made it feel like we were entering a vacation home. Every detail in the room was luxurious. From the Bose stereo playing jazz, to the fireplace, to the ornate furniture, to THE most comfortable bed and pillows, to the hardwood hallway leading to the large bathroom with light dimmers. In the morning, they set-up a wonderful breakfast in-room for us: spinach-feta frittata, spring salad, fruit salad, blueberry-lemon pound cake, OJ, and coffee. Having to check out and leave really sucked. Additional info: Must book weeks in advance, as they only have 8 rooms. Park in the front to check-in, then you can re-park in the private lot in the back. They are right next to the Co-op and within walking distance of basically everything in town!

We stayed in cabin #42 which was beachfront and directly across from the shuffleboard play area, the fire pit, and playground. This cabin was in a good location on the property for accessing those amenities and enjoying the view from inside or from the large porch. The cabin itself is so cute inside at an initial walk through and we just loved it. The air conditioner was on when we went in which we appreciated because sometimes hotel rooms can be stuffy at check in. The check in process was pretty quick and easy. I booked via phone and was not told until I arrived that they have a one pet policy. This was also not listed on their website. They prefer pets not be on the furniture, but have no way of enforcing it which we found out the hard way... The comforter on the bed had clearly been peed on by someone's pet at some point as it had a big yellow spot when we removed it (we never keep comforters on in hotels because we don't know how often they're cleaned). The sheets and other blanket seemed clean and didn't have any scent - urine nor laundry. We quickly discovered the building is slanted which made for a strange and almost disorienting experience walking around. At 5 minutes past posted checkout time, they rang the room repeatedly to tell us to leave even though I asked for late check out (30 additional minutes) since I had a work call scheduled. The room, aside from the comforter, was clean and the space was charming. The view can't be beat and the price was really good for the location. I probably would've considered staying here again, but I have 2 dogs.

The floor slopes a bit in this cabin but it made no difference to our comfort. It has a nice comfy bed and the large bathroom has a walk-in shower. The kitchen was equipped for our needs and we cooked several meals there. We had great privacy and a lovely porch to hang out on outside with chairs and chaises. The beach is wonderful with great views. It's not a Hilton resort and that was perfect for us It's a nice, laidback comfy place to stay with nice people working there. It's very reasonably priced and it's located in a less touristy area within easy driving distance of Acadia and most coastal towns. 10/10 we'd happily stay again!
