It's been a while since I last dined at he Yardarm, since I no longer live in the area. I was delighted to learn they are still open and was excited to go again last night, and to find the same owners! The atmosphere was cozy and reminiscent of Cape Cod, the service excellent, and the food outstanding, just as I remembered from years past. I had oysters Rockefeller, with gazpacho soup, salad, sour dough bread and Chardonnay. Other family members had shrimp dejonghe, and bouillabaise, all delicious. Then my favorite, the chocolate mousse and after dinner cocktails. I am so pleased to find a restaurant that has not changed over the years, menu the same, outstanding food and service unchanged. While visiting friends, we visited the Yardarm to enjoy seafood that one can only get on the coast. Alas, it did not go well. Honestly, the cozy setup and view of the water would otherwise make it a super date-night restaurant, but lackluster food, limited selection, and the distraction of the owners bickering among themselves. For context and clarity, it is mid-October, and when I ordered oysters on the half-shell, I was told that they "haven't had oysters all season". Five of the menu items are oyster dishes and, if it had been "all season" or more than a few days of a supply issue, it would be appropriate to give a notification (a sign, covering the menu selection, etc.). I also wouldn't use the term "ceviche" to describe what was brought out, either. I really think that somewhere, someone in the organization has a vision and ideas that could be wonderful, but something else prevents their blossoming. The lady of the house (owner) spent her time, huffing and complaining to a staff member (maybe a son or relative), scowling, and marching sporadically through the dining area. Popular restaurant, close quarters... I get it. Everything about this restaurant was perfect! From the food, to our waitress, to the wait. We waited about 15 min but only because they are only allowed 50% capacity. But in the meanwhile we were able to get drinks. We started off with the crab cakes followed by soup and salad then our meal! I was completely satisfied with everything. Public service announcement. I don't post negative reviews but this place was rated way too high on yelp. It has character (read between the lines that it needs some obvious maintenance). The calamari was a small serving and not cooked properly (rubbery). The chowder was good. The salad was sparse. The shrimp dish with pasta was the highlight of the meal. The fried shrimp well let's say I have had much better for half the price. The waitress must have been having a very bad day because our treatment was barely professional but that is her issue not the restaurants. Overall I would think that for the cost of the meal it should have been much better. We will not be returning. read more

The restaurant looks like a little house so it's confusing from the outside but the vibe inside is very cozy. We came here for our 1 year wedding anniversary. The food was delicious and definitely worth 5 stars. The service wasn't horrible but it could have been a little bit more welcoming. It felt like a lot of locals come here so we felt a little bit like outsiders. It was also pretty loud inside, we didn't mind it but I think its worth mentioning. We always look forward to our trip to Corpus that would not be the same without dining one evening at the Yardarm. Our service is always great along with the food, especially the nightly specials. After reading some of these postings, apparently some definitely did not pertain to this restaurant. The owners are both in their 80's and are there to greet their new and long time customers not because they have to, but because they enjoy it and have a restaurant that is unique in both food and atmosphere. Ignore the bad reviews and come here and try it for yourself! We had the oysters on the half shell and ceviche for an appetizer and the oysters were the best and most flavorful oysters I've ever had. The ceviche was VERY good. The dinner plates come with soup and salad. I got the gazpacho soup that was delicious. Then for the main course I got the swordfish that comes with green beans and mashed potatoes. The rest of the table got the tuna steak and WOW. Just everything was very impressive and we were not disappointed at all. We even got dessert! Definitely come here if you want to eat seafood that's prepared and cooked very well! Food was amazing. Salmon with Mango salsa was perfectly done. Pistachio crusted Snapper was perfectly portioned and seasoned. Salad had great dressing. Mix it with the balsamic! Was there in June. I went to there twice! There were few restaurants opening so luckily we found this one. It's a cute little restaurant with good review, so 4 stars for the view. I like their Market Fish Capers, it has a sour, salty taste. Other than that everything is good. But sitting outside then there were flies which was annoying. A super cute hidden gem in Corpus! At first glance you might me a little skeptical because it's located next to a motel and looks like a house but I'm so glad I tried this place! From the hostess to the romantic setting and the view it was amazing! We were seated right in front of the view of the ocean and the inside was dim with candles being the only light source. For apps we got the oyster Rockefeller and escargot and both was so good!! We ordered the specials: snapper papillote and crab stuffed flounder and both literally melts into the mouth. It came with soup and salad and also complimentary bread. The only downside was that the food came out super slow, which I understand bc everything was fresh! read more

I am visiting for the weekend and we looked up a restaurant that was near the water with a scenic view of the water, we went in asked if we had a reservation, and nowhere in the website did it indicate we needed one, but we were sat anyways near the kitchen. When asked if we could sit near the water, we were told they were only for the owners "regulars". The waitress tried but the owner wouldn't even look at us and just nodded "no". When we explained why she says "bye,bye". I was taken back by this woman... it was so unkind and at that moment I felt a bit discriminated as we were the only Hispanic persons there, she didn't even try so we left. Simple menu. Well prepared. I had a pecan coated snapper... really good, but the highlight was Shrimp DeJeunge. Outstanding seafood fare with quality service and professional staff. From the outside, the appearance is deceiving but once you enter it's an entirely different world. The food is such a welcome relief from the all too standard fare of overly breaded fried seafood. The menu offers a wide variety of fish and shellfish items that can be cooked to your liking, broiled, fried, or steamed. The Black Drum is to die for. In those two years the portion size and quality of the food has diminished greatly...$91 was way to much for what we got. When the weather is nice, go sit outside because the bay is beautiful and pleasant. Inside looks and feels crowded with minimal seating which reflects the limited parking. The salad was tasty with a 2-dressing combo. We were appetizers heavy and I'd definitely suggest the Fried Oysters with Pesto Cream Sauce. Crab cakes, Oyster Rockefeller, Shrimp Cocktail and Ceviche were ok. Unfortunately, they ran out of the Bouillabaisse Soup, Fried Calamari and other things that left half party still hungry. It took over 30 minutes to get a refill on a cup of coffee after multiple requests. What made this a pleasant experience was the company that met us there. Laughter seems to make flavors better. This restaurant has been on my radar to try. I'm glad I went. Next time, I'll set up reservations and hopefully I can have a more elevated dining experience. read more

Usually an outstanding spot to dine, but unfortunately our food was okay. First of all, they were out of oysters and ceviche, so we opted for the crab stuffed mushrooms, which were delicious. We also ordered the calamari, which was pretty bland, quite mediocre. Our Entrees were delightfully tasty, salmon topped with a mango pico de Gallo garnish. However, the sides were super small. Both dinners arrived the fish was about the size of a filet 0 fish from McDonalds .with a small spoon of rice a 5 slivers of squash .I took 5 bits of fish and it was gone same as wife . First time ever in Corpus and thanks to yelp, we found ourselves here celebrating our anniversary. From the outside it looks like a house turned restaurant filled with so much family love. We walked in and we're immediately greated and decided to take advantage of their back patio seating. (Side note, they offer call ahead seating and if Corpus wasn't celebrating some parade I bet we would not have been able to have been sat immediately) Their patio view is straight out of a book and is so romantic and private that we felt like we were at our house or visiting our grandparents house and having dinner out back. And if grandma knows anything, it's how to cook and whoever is running the kitchen, knows how to handle some fresh seafood. We ordered crab cakes and fried oysters to start, followed with the flounder special and lobster thermidor, and finished with the cheesecake dosed in raspberry port wine sauce. Please let your heart guide you through the menu and order whatever it desires. I wholeheartedly believe cannot go wrong. The impression we gathered was any other weekend the family is there, full hands in really implementing that southern hospitality. This weekend their daughter was getting married and if they are reading this, your staff that stayed to keep the boat afloat were outstanding, respectable, and really made your establishment and our one year anniversary a time and place to remember. Last thing I want to add is the woman's restroom is the best one I've ever seen.
