The waitress arrived and took my order, their margaritas are large and strong. They give you complimentary chips and fish ceviche with salsas, which were excellent. The green salsa had quite a kick. I then went with the Fried Red Snapper, which came with fries, rice, and a salad. It was very tasty and fresh. The service was very good, the waitress stopped by often and was very friendly. The food is ok, Bucaneros in San Antonio is way better. My fish chicharrón was bland and they give thousand island dressing for it? It's chicharrón style every other place I have gone gives you guacamole, I had to order it seperately. My cocktail Vuelve ala Vida (The sauce was a watered down unflavored mess) the Shrimp were really fresh, but the cocktail sauce was horrible. The kiddos had Alfredo shrimp pasta they said it was good, the wife said her dish was OK some pulpo fish ala diabla. What a place... the outside of the building is nothing to speakof but the inside is nice, clean and the food is really good. We ate there, vs. to-go, they have a fairly large seating area. They also seemed like they are doing a lot of to-go orders. We were seated and they brought out ceviche and fried tortia chips and crackers. It was delicious and had a little spice with a really nice fresh taste. The two salsa's were also very good, one was on the milder side and one was hot. My wife had the Camarones Zarandeados (Grilled shrimp with home sauce). It comes with several shrimp and rice. It is marked mild, my wife thought it was a bit spicy but loved it and eat it all. I had the Huachinago Al Gusto (Red Snapper natural) with Diabla sauce. It comes with rice, a piece of bread and a salad. The picture shows it with fries but I didn't get any. They gave us free salsas with what I think is fish ceviche which was solid. The orange sauce was super good and had a lot of umami. It tastes kind of like a spicy Vietnamese shrimp paste sauce. The fried fish plate is really great. Very fresh fish but they didn't tell us we could get a sauce on the side (my lack of reading also influenced that though). The fries on the plate are good and the garlic bread was great. We also got the spicy special ceviche which had shrimp and oysters. I wasn't the biggest fan of the oysters because they were in an unfamiliar sauce (very tamarind forward), but my mom really enjoyed it. The seasoning on the shrimp is pretty solid and fresh tasting. This spot is fairly new in town, and I decided to check it out while in Corpus Christi for work and craving some good seafood. The ambiance is great -- it has that classic Hispanic/Mexican restaurant vibe with comfortable seating and good music that makes you want to stay awhile. The food was stellar. I ordered the red snapper, which came as a whole filet, and it was fried to absolute perfection. The garlic butter sauce they serve with it is incredible and really ties the whole plate together. The dish also comes with rice, a side salad, garlic bread, and french fries -- definitely a hearty, filling meal for the price. I'll absolutely be back to try more of their seafood options. It's one of the few Mexican spots in the area that specializes in Mexican-style seafood, and they do it very well, while also offering great and welcoming service. We started with the oysters and shrimp empanadas & both were amazing! The empanadas were perfectly cooked with just the right balance of crisp and softness. I tried the Filete de Pescado Relleno - a giant portion of fish smothered in beautiful shrimp, mushrooms, vegetables, and white cheese. It's about as indulgent as fish can get, but also delicious and comforting. I liked mine with their green salsa - bursting with citrus and jalapeño, an exciting topper to every dish! The business was easy to find since it was on the side of SPID, and once we walked in we were quickly greeted and seated. Once seated the server gave us fish ceviche and tostadas with salsa's. It was delicious and I never seen a place that had that. One more dish to note is the Filete de pescado relleno: my server had recommended this a few times but I was hesitant as it looked a little too "extra" for me with all the cheese and cream sauce. If I could give this delightful little place 6 stars I would! First as you get seated, you are greeted with a bowl full of fish ceviche & homemade tortilla chips & saltines. Absolutely divine. We couldn't believe how reasonable the prices were on the menu so we ordered guacamole, fish tacos and garlic butter shrimp. The portions were so generous that we couldn't even finish our food! We also had heavy poured mango margs that we couldn't finish! It makes me sad that we don't have one of these in Ohio, where we are from. If we are back down in the area, we will definitely be back! What a weird surprise. I grew up in Corpus Christi, about three miles from Mariscos Altamar. Back then, it was a Whatab*rger. Today, it is home to a very cool Mexican seafood shop, where you are seated with a serving of free ceviche! Is it great? Not really. But it is solid. The food was so very tasty. The paella was a surprise. Rich in flavor and generously served with crab, clams, and shrimp. It was delightful. It had a deep umami flavor. We also ordered the mixed fajitas which was probably a pound of chicken and beef. The only complaint is that the tortillas were store bought and flavorless. The fish a la plancha was very good, but not sure if it was as advertised. Still, it was perfectly seasoned and tender. The margaritas were $6.50 (June2024) and worth twice that. read more

Mariscos Altamar is a new taqueria new to Corpus. But what makes them special is what kind of taqueria they are, an "Ostioneria" (literally Spanish for "sea food restaurant"). So you may be wondering what makes that special. Well, if you are familiar with the taqueria foodscapes of other bigger Texas cities (Houston, for example), you would be familiar with this type of restaurant. There are many. However, Corpus does not have very many Ostionerias, so that's what makes their arrival very special indeed. And Mariscos Altamar is an example of a high quality Mexican sea food restaurant. I have been here numerous times since recently opening, and have yet to be disappointed. Great food, plentiful options, and good prices. What's not to love? I'll also add that so far I have experienced nothing but great service. Super nice waitstaff, and the cashier (who I believe to also be the owner) is so humble and thankful of the patronage. One thing worth noting is its location. Its both good and bad in that it is right off of a high traffic area of Weber just before the intersection of SPID. Its good because that ensures they receive a fair amount of business, but bad because the parking lot can be hard to get in and out of at high traffic times of day. Anyway, I have already put them in my current frequent rotation for hearty sea food dinners. My family ate here twice during our recent trip and we can't get enough of it! The service was fast and very accommodating. I was looking for some fresh seafood for lent and Mariscos Alta Mar was mentioned first and reviews promised good food so we decided to try it out for the first time. The place was packed when we picked up our food, just as I imagined so we knew we were gonna eat good food. I tried the shrimp cocktail, it was soooo good! It hit the spot, it was just what I wanted. The shrimp was large and juicy, you could tell it was fresh. There were slices of fresh avocado along with some pico de gallo and clamato juice in the cocktail. The lime juice from the lime wedges made all the flavors blend in nicely! As well as being well prepared it came with crackers, tostadas and sauces to go with it. Towards the end of eating it, it felt a bit spicy but not too bad. The empanadas my daughter ordered were also a tad spicy for my daughter's liking but everyone else thought they were just right. The fish tacos were delicious, they had lettuce and diced tomatoes and a special dressing on it, so my son liked them and he's a picky eater so that saying a lot. My husband ordered the Diablo shrimp sauce and the shrimp plate. Not sure why the sauce had to be bought separately but he said it tasted nice and spicy, the way he likes it. All the plates had their own great flavors. This was a good place to try fresh seafood, so glad we did! A few minor details in the order went wrong but nothing too bad. Authentic flavors of the Mexican state of Nayarit shine through. This small, humble establishment packs a punch with their assortment of seafood delights. I was surprised at their colorful, quite extensive menu. So much I wanted to try but I opted for the filete de pescado relleno which is fish fillet with shrimp, octopus, surimi, mushrooms, cilantro, bell pepper. YUM! Came out piping hot and packed with all the fresh sea meats as promised. Squeeze of lemon on top and chefs kiss. It was an irresistible, comforting meal. Served with rice and bread to sop up all of the creamy saucy cheesy goodness and a simple refreshing salad. Washed it down with a cantarito and wow I was in a state of bliss wishing I could run it back lol. My boyfriend ordered the camarones al gusto in diabla sauce and he enjoyed his meal as well. We also ordered the calamares (calamari) for an appetizer. Good but not great and would probably skip this next time and opt for something else as they appear to be in no shortage of delicious options. Ordered a cocktail to go. Would recommend the vuelva a la vida with shrimp, octopus, oyster, abalone and surimi. Excellent. Judging by the quality of their food I believe Mariscos Altamar is here to stay as a staple in the Corpus Christi food scene.
