The woman manning the store was super friendly and helpful. She shared that she actually makes the children's clothing sold in the store and was sitting there sewing before I walked in! The children's clothing had a ton of fun character patterns (mickey, star wars, etc.) They also had a fun selection of vintage inspired jewelry and sunglasses. I ended up purchasing a circle skirt dress for $55. It isn't lined but still appears to be if great quality. The styles were comparable to what you might find on modcloth, but about 20% cheaper. When my machine started acting up, I remembered Peter and called to see if he could work on my specific sewing machine. He said he could and even remembered me from when he visited my guild and spoke. I ended up bringing in a second older machine that belonged to my mother and I wanted to give it to my niece. Peter said he could work on that one too. I brought the machines in on a Tuesday and Peter called that afternoon with a free estimate and had them both ready for pickup in two days! Such awesome and prompt service. I was afraid I would be without my machine for a couple weeks. Not with Peter! Thank you Peter for being so awesome!! My first visit was just to browse. I picked up a few skeins from the discontinued/orphan bin and some fun extras for a crocheter friend. The selection immediately stood out -- this isn't big-box store yarn. The fibers are higher quality and much more enjoyable to work with. On my second visit I purchased a beautiful wool/alpaca blend hank for fingerless gloves. Carol balled the yarn for me and then taught me how to split it into two equal balls for my project. The concept honestly confused me at first, but she explained that you divide by weight rather than yardage -- and suddenly it clicked. One of those "aha" moments you remember later. Shortly after, I returned for two more hanks of the same yarn. Carol again walked me through using the swift and ball winder. I even sat at the big studio table ripping out a glove... twice... while she patiently taught two young students to crochet. Watching her explain foundation chains and rows made it clear she isn't just a shop owner -- she's a gifted teacher. Most recently, I brought in gloves I was struggling to finish. She patiently explained the construction in a way my brain could actually process and showed me an alternate method that achieved the same result but was much easier to understand. That kind of support is priceless. Carol consistently shows kindness, patience, and deep knowledge of fiber arts. The shop also carries a huge variety of patterns for knitters and crocheters at every skill level. Parking can feel confusing the first time, but it's easy once you know: there's a lot behind the building -- enter via the driveway to the left of the neighboring house -- plus plenty of street parking. As long as the shop is open, I'll keep coming back. This place feels less like a store and more like a fiber community.
