My son made one in Kindergarten and I thought it would be a thoughtful gift. Cheryl said Yes she does and to check her website for her hours. I did and rushed to go after work on Friday. I live in Adelanto and I picked up my Grandson in Victorville, then drove straight to Lucerne Valley only to discover she closed an hour earlier than on her website. I called and she said she was there until 5:00, but no one came in so she closed. If I was told to make an appointment, I would have. This sucks.

He's in the process of learning as a new glass artist, and showed me some of his work! I scooped a few of his hand made marbles/pearls and a pendie for a souvenir. It was a great experience and a cool space to chill. It was such a great experience that I wanted to go back the next day with my wife! The next day we came in together, and received the same stellar customer service. The owner also showed us more of his work, which included some new techniques he was learning. He showed us a marble that he was learning fuming on, that he didn't have displayed for sale because it wasn't "perfect." Despite this, the color is gorgeous and happened to match wifey's fumed heady. It was "perfectly imperfect," a recurring theme we have been having in our relationship. Immediate chills and scoop! On the way out, there was an e-board demo from @instabenbrown, who invited us to try out the e-boards. We couldn't since we were in a bit of a rush, but the demo was like a kick it session in the sun that we wanted to join! Cooler, beach chairs, ez up and all! We had to go, but the vibe of the place made us want to stay. Despite all the glass being hand worked by the artist in the back, the prices are fair. All the staff and the crew are very friendly and quite knowledgeable, and took their time to talk with us. We felt truly welcomed in this place. They had other things besides glass and the usual smoke shop stuff, like longboards, r/c cars, and clothing. Also probably the only non "broken window smoke shop" in Bear IYKWIM. This lovely yarn and craft shop was such a gem to find during our Big Bear visit. There are so many…read morebeautiful soft yarns in every shade, it's definitely a yarn lover's dream. There are both branded yarns and pretty hand dyed yarns created by Anita the artisan/owner. The shop is mostly yarn, but also a variety of other crafting supplies and crafts on display - lots of cute felt projects, fimo clay jewelry, and various mixed media projects. There's a lot of cute finished projects out to see and buy supplies to duplicate, as I did with a beautiful crocheted scarf. The owner is very friendly and helpful. They also have classes for anything you'd like, at reasonable prices. Love this place, and may be soon making a special trip back up the mountain to take a class here!

A Cultural Gem in the High Desert…read more Tucked between the desert sky and the creative soul of Yucca Valley, Hi-Desert Artists is the kind of place you accidentally wander into--and then spend the next hour wishing you had more wall space and a bigger art budget. I stopped in on a whim one Saturday, just planning to "browse." (Famous last words.) What I found instead was a cozy, vibrant gallery bursting with the kind of talent that can only come from locals who live and breathe the desert--every piece seemed to carry a little grit, a little magic, and a whole lot of soul. Their rotating exhibits mean no two visits are the same. One month, you might find expressive oils of stormy Joshua Trees; the next, serene watercolors of coyotes under a star-filled sky. The current show featured a mix of pottery, paintings (from abstract to impressionistic), and sculpture, and I left with a renewed appreciation for how diverse and talented our local art scene really is. But here's where things got dangerous: The gift shop. If you're someone who likes mass-produced kitsch, keep moving. But if you're into one-of-a-kind jewelry, ceramics, quirky cards, handmade ornaments, prints, bags, and a half-dozen other forms of functional art--you're going to want to bring a tote bag (and maybe a budget). What really impressed me, though, was the community energy. They offer classes and lectures for all ages and levels--from beginning bookmaking to urban sketching to printmaking workshops, and even youth classes. It's the kind of place where your kid can learn to paint while you talk to an artist who is currently hanging in the gallary. If you're a strong artist this maybe too elementary for you, but if you're average or below in the painting department this is a good way to develop some skills. The time of the event is two hours, for me, time was too crunched and I felt rushed to keep up and finish. Some brushes are a bit damaged and don't make the markings you may intend so don't expect perfection. The day we went they ran out of some paint colors- this is disappointing and should not happen at a business specializing in painting. I recommend always having backup paint and a person circulating for paint color refills. Additionally, I'd recommend making this a 2.5 hour event, you need an extra 30 minutes post instructions for patrons to touch up/ finish their creations without feeling it's time to cleanup and get out. Although it's BYOB my lesson learned is to bring a cup with a lid as painting neighbors don't mind sending paint splashing off the canvas. Overall, this would be a fun event with friends or reserve for an office party.
