Rose is amazing. I was recommended to her via someone at Ravelry who saw I was looking for the *old style* of Addi Swing crochet hooks. They changed the style in 2020 & the new style hurts my hands terribly, especially my thumb. I have a 3/4-made afghan I promised my husband I would finish before I die. I have Moyamoya Disease (brain disease) and am not expected to live many more years. And broke my 5mm Addi Swing crochet hook I was using to make the afghan. A month of searching, buying online & discovering people didn't know the difference with the new and old styles of the hooks (and receiving more than half a dozen of the WRONG hook...), I was ready to give up. Then I was recommended to Rose. Not only did she know what I was talking about (at last someone who did!), but had the hooks, could place her hands on one for me right away, and was a lovely conversationalist to boot. I so wish I could go to the store in CA and meet her and see what treasures are in there -- I'm sure if I lived nearby I'd be there all the time. I live in northern NH, and with the wonders of sending her photos on her iPhone and talking on the telephone, we got it straightened out and soon I'll be able to finish the afghan for my husband. Love this place! I've been coming here since they were in their former location and I love that they have such a great selection. This shop has the largest selection of yarn in any yarn store I've ever been to (except the Fiber Circle in Farmersville, TX). It's best to allow a little time for browsing as it is densely packed. They carry many well known brands from around the world, including some lovely luxury fibers. Although the yarns are in bags, you can reach in for the tactile experience. This yarn selection is delightfully overwhelming!! So if you come, make sure you have multiple patterns ready. Rose is such a genuine and lovely lady. A guest came in, newbie knitter just needing help. Rose helped her immediately and sent them on their merry way. There are mounds of knitting magazines and books to peruse. Many yarns that I've never seen including hanks from Germany, Sweden and Italy. If you go with a pattern, prepare yourself to hunt. The other +plus is that most colorways had multiple balls available so you can plan cardigans and the like. If she's knitting when you arrive, watch out! Rose is very knowledgeable. It is imperative because the shop is like a huge garage sale. Stuff piled all over, and whatever the organization is, it is only intelligible by Rose. I just say I need this yarn, or this style of wool and she points me to it. On the bad side, there seems to be yarn from a long period of time. She doesnt get rid of things or have sales to eliminate older stock. There is a huge variety of yarns of mostly good quality. In spite of the fact that I find the presentation (or lack of it) rather overwhelming, I do go there and have for many years. read more

The store just relocated 4 months ago so a lot of the items still need to be arranged. You might see some Cascade 220 in one aisle then some on the other aisle. The owner, who mainly works by herself, is still working on putting some yarns out on the shelves. Some shelves still need price tags. But all in all, it's still a great store. This shop is a bit of a drive for me but always worth it. Today I went because I had run out of yarn just a few inches short of finishing a rather complex beaded shawl. A lovely find in Yorba Linda - with a huge selection of yarns and knitting materials as well as knitted items for sale. The store front looked small but it went into a big space with shelves upon shelves of wonderful colors and sizes of yarn - from cottons, wool, silks to various blends, from all over the world. My mother (the knitter) and I went in with a pattern and two possible colors of interest and the very gracious owner helped us find many options to choose from. With 40+ years of knitting experience she was able to advise on the right choices and necessary adjustments for the pattern. On our second visit, there were 2 ladies knitting away at the large central table enjoying the company, guidance and help -- a community treasure all knitting folk should support -- to keep such small businesses alive! read more

Had a great experience the first time I visited Velona. This review is regarding the professionalism of the business. This is a specialty store, meaning patrons that decide to visit this business are purposefully driving a long way out of their way for the sole purpose of supporting this business. Therefore they should take care to maintain their hours appropriately updated. On Velona's website, their hours are: Mon-Fri 10-6, Sat 10-5, Sun 12-5 Actually posted on their window: Mon & Wed-Fri 10-6, Tue 10-7, Sat 10-5, Sun 12-3. I spent an hour driving on my Sun in traffic fruitlessly. Very disappointing day and wasting gas, and no yarn for my project. Velona should take care to not have patrons suffer such a day without being able to truly review the business. read more
