It appears that they are no longer in business. Went by today (Sunday 5/10 Mother's Day) and the front door was unlocked but no yarn in evidence. Sad to see this as I used to love coming to this shop, with the previous owner, and the most recent one also. Used to come to the knitting circle on Saturdays in the backyard garden before the pandemic. Don't know where I'll get such lovely yarns again here in SLO. read more

I just LOVE this shop!!! We have frequented each time we have traveled to and from Northern to Southern CA dropping our son to and from college. Each time I'm so impressed at the time the owner takes to explain how each yarn I've selected is used and how to stitch with it and care for it when it needs to be blocked and washed. If you want unique yarns worthy of the love and effort for your threads projects, this establishment is a must on your list. I needed 3-weight yarn for a fun Star Wars characters project for my grandsons; and was able to find all the colors I needed. The staff is quite helpful and offered their umbrella swift and ball winder for an easy pull from the center flat bottom ball. The boys love their first Star Wars "guys" and are super excited I offered to make more. My tour of the shop left me wanting to create more one-of-a-kind special projects. I have one sweater crochet project I'm stuck on, and plan to drop in on Thursday evening "hooker" night for assistance. I will be dusting off my knitting needles to sit in with the ladies for encouraging company. read more

When I walked into Yarns at the Adobe, I was greeted by Anne (I think). I told her about an awful experience I'd just had at my B&B and surprised both of us when I burst into tears. Anne was so kind and comforting. Turbo, the store cat, hopped onto the table and added soothing purrs to the mix. I was so grateful to be in the presence of such kindness. I asked Anne to show me yarn that I couldn't get at my LYS in Southern California. She showed me a selection of locally handspun (Heather Bloom) and hand dyed (Valkyrie) yarns. I chose some of Heather Bloom's lavender yarn with beads and firestar. Some Yelpers have commented that the handspun and hand dyed is expensive. I've dyed and spun my own yarn. It takes hours to design, blend, dye and dry fiber. It takes hours to spin, ply, set, and dry 200 yards of yarn. The same arguments for the value of handknitted garments, apply to handmade yarn. As I've said in other Yelps, I like supporting my fellow artisans. The arrangement of the store is so charming. It's like an antique store decorated with yarn. There's a small garden patio where tea and coffee are served. I know if I lived nearby, this would be my home away from home. read more

I really like this place. It is not well organized, though so you might have trouble finding things. They have a really good selection though, and the prices were much cheaper here than I expected. I saw one skein for $20 cheaper than I saw it for in Santa Barbara. Mostly only about 25 to 50 cents higher than my favorite places in SF and Portland. They had a small but decent sale section and even offered to wind the sale yarn I bought. read more

This is definitely the yarn boutique you should visit, if you're from out of town or around the area. They definitely have a great selection of yarn, as well as yarn locally made...isn't that nifty and fun? A great way to spot the shop is to find the tree trunk wrapped in knitted/crocheted fabric, located right in front of their entrance. There is also a cat who roams around, meowing at you when you come through the door. Which fits perfectly with the whole cat and yarn stereotype...haha What I love about this place is the staff. When I walked in, they were just opening and I was basically the only person in there. She was actually very friendly and helpful. She gave me the low down on their shop, what they sold, what unique goodies they have and the like. What I loved was a bit of information on the beautiful yarn I was eyeing, I think I just like talkative and enthusiastic knitters. We talked a bit about Ravelry, about our favorite knitting needles and some cute patterns that were examples around the store. I honestly just enjoyed that experience so much, that it stuck with me. I wandered around the shop a bit before I realized the owner was out back. She does have a laid-back attitude and is very helpful if you ask for it. Visiting CP to drop off our son, I was thrilled to find a LYS, even more so because it's full of some big names and also some local hand dyed. I happened to visit during the first day of the SLO Yarn Crawl (4 shops from Atascadero to Pismo) so the shop was super busy. It's a bit tight to get around inside but the staff were super friendly and the yarn-crawlers were very accomodating. As with most travelers, I was looking for unique yarns and found the treasures that are Valkyrie, Drop Spindle Yarns (both are LHD by Y@Adobe employees I think) and also some unusual lines like Swans Island, Blue Ridge and Alpenglow. Pricing seemed normal to me. The LHD wasn't cheap but then it shouldn't be - LHD yarns are labor intensive, artisanal creations and you're paying for that personal attention to detail that creates the lovely colors. Parking is in a lot behind the store (around the block from the entrance). There is also a lovely courtyard at the back entrance, perfect for a sunny late summer day. read more

It's easy to bring in whatever project you're working on and get a few helpful suggestions. I needed a gift last minute and my usual yarn shop was closed so I used my yelp app and found Yarns at the Adobe. I love exploring new places so I was excited to check this place out. When I first walked in I was in awe, the set up of the shop is great! I loved the trunks and baskets, old cabinets and shelves all filled with a large selection of yarn. I was literally in yarn heaven, but for a brief moment. I began to fall from this fluffy, wool-filled heaven when I flipped over the first price tag, and then the next, and the next. Everything was WAY OVERPRICED. I'm usually not one to really worry to much about prices but I just couldn't shake the feeling that I could find the same things cheaper elsewhere. If the yarns are locally made or expensive for some other reason that I couldn't see or feel I would have been nice to have been informed. Instead the entire time I was there I walked around the shop virtually alone while a woman sat at a desk around a corner working. Not once did she get up to say hi or even holler. When I first walked in she was speaking with someone (not a customer) and didn't pause to say hello, which is ok, but when she was finished she sat down at her desk without speaking a word. Her cat on the other hand immediately jumped down when it saw me and started meowing loudly and incessantly while rubbing against my leg, which to most people is cute, but I'm not really a cat person so I just wanted it to stop. I reached down to pet it, in hopes that it would either stop screeching or go away or both but it didn't. The lady got up and I thought "thank goodness she's going to help me out with this cat" but she simply walked right past me and out the door neither acknowledging me nor the cat. At this point I wanted to just turn and walk out right behind her. But I needed a gift so I pressed on. When she came back I walked over and asked her a question or two for which she gave me a vague answer, so I picked a yarn, bought it, and left. So because of the horrible customer service, paired with the feeling that I could find similar items elsewhere for cheaper without having to worry about wether the person I'm giving the knitted item to is allergic to cats....I wont be returning to Yarns at the Adobe. I'll just make sure to get to Nordic Mart by 3 next time! read more

I want to shop at "Yarns at the Adobe", but the two times I've come in to spend money I felt belittled by the staff and left empty handed. To be honest, I think it was my age. I have been a semi-regular customer of this shop for some time now. Each time I go in the store, I spend an average of about $100. You would think that by being a regular and a good customer, I would by this time have earned at least a greeting when I walk into the store, but this is not the case. As other reviewers have mentioned, I feel belittled and disdained by the owner of this shop. She is downright rude to me every time, ignoring friendly comments that I make and flat-out not responding to my saying "hi, how are you?" I don't know why, except that I am young, maybe?? Other customers have come into the store while I am there to whom she is perfectly friendly. I could be forgiving if this happened only once or twice, but it is literally every time. I love this store and its selection, and love to support local businesses. I have long wanted to join one of their knitting groups as well, but unfortunately, after my last time in the store (about a week before Christmas) I have decided that I will never return. The attitude I receive when I go in the store is one of a person who sincerely wishes I would disappear, so, I will. I would encourage anyone and everyone else to support other businesses that extend at least basic civility to their patrons. read more

I loved this shop! It was such an oasis. They had the basic yarns most shops carry but also had local hand dyed yarns that I wanted as a souvenir of my beautiful trip to the central coast. I would have loved to stay longer but unfortunately street parking is expensive and hard to come by. It is a small shop but there was enough yarn to look at and their courtyard area to sit and knit outside was just dreamlike. I just couldn't believe what a beautiful place this was!! I was just wondering around at night on a business trip and ran into this little shop across from the Mission. It was really charming. They had a ton of really unique yarns and some cute projects knit up as samples. It was a little disorganized and I was mostly unattended when I visited. I am not sure it would be a place I would sit and knit if I were from the area, but it was fun to visit and see some local yarn offerings. read more

Maybe I got lucky, because I had a great experience at this shop. The customer service was great. I don't remember the lady's name, but she was hilarious and was really cool about showing me local yarns (as well as sale ones for my broke college student budget). I would go again; I didn't feel belittled at all and while some of the yarn is a bit pricey (aka not craft store prices) it's comparable to the shop I use in SF so it's not that big of a deal to me. read more

This place has the best selection of yarn I've ever seen. If you shop for yarn at larger craft stores, go here and you'll never go back! One of my first times there Ann told me to use my stash on my project, and I told her I didn't have a stash. She said "oh, you will". She was right! The reason I didn't have a stash is because I never shopped at a decent yarn store. Everything here is high quality and the staff is so friendly. They are willing to help you with any project and are more than willing to offer advice and give you ideas. They have a lending library of patterns in case you don't know what to make. What a wonderful find... We were travelling and I needed help with a project. I called to find out if someone could help me with the blanket I was working on as I am new to knitting and messed up a stitch. Anne told me to come and she would gladly help me. I was visiting from out of the area and was excited to see a yarn shop nestled in the downtown shopping area. My husband and I wenr in and there were two ladies talking at the counter. Neither one said anything to us as a greeting so I wandered around a little. Then one of the ladies left and as I passed by the front counter, I said, " hi, how are you?" She looked up at me like I was bothering her and said nothing then looked back down at whatever was so important at the counter. A custoner that she apparently knew came in and she couldnt be nicer. I was interested in some specialty yarn, so my husband said something nicely to her about us needing some help, she looked at him like he was a homeless man off the street and ignored us again. In this retail climate , with a speciality store I can not believe she would ignore a potential customer. Next time Im in tbe area, I will drive to Cambria where I also saw a cute yarn store. read more

I was very excited about finding another yarn store--not a Michaels or JoAnn's. Sadly though this store was a gigantic let down. The store is a room and a half of yarn. There was some nice, unusual yarn, but I couldn't get anyone to help me. Nor could I discern who was an employee or where to pay for my yarn. read more
