Consistently the best middle eastern food in downtown vancouver. Never had a bad meal there. The variety and quality of food is better than any other middle eastern place we've been to. Then they told us they had run out and would serve us Costco pita. Upon leaving we saw people with Lebanese pita. A group spending 1600 getting shafted on pita. Not cool and super cheap. Amazing amazing place. Beautiful setting right in coal harbour, next to Stanley park, with excellent, patient, warm wait staff and lovely jazz music playing the whole night. My wife and I came here for our anniversary dinner and we were delighted. We ordered the Chefs Special Sampler for 2 - basically giving us a sampler of everything on the menu for $90 per person. We were really really full and couldn't finish it all. Highlights: - Chickpea Fetteh: warm delightful mixture of ground meat, chickpea sauce, with soaked pita at the bottom and crispy stuff in it. It just explodes with flavour and texture. - dip sampler: the hummus and eggplant mutabbah were really good but that pocket pita bread was out of this world good. Even the tabbouleh was good and my wife normally hates that. - the lamb tartare was AMAZING. It was kneaded so soft that it was practically a paste. When you combine it with the nuts and red spicy sauce and eat it with bread the combo is winning. - grilled Kibbeh and regular kibbeh - both really delightful - the grilled meat plate was great. In particular the chicken with the garlic tahini was really flavourful. The kabob mushrooms and peppers on top of smoked baba ganoush was soo good. Loved the smoke flavour. I'm a big fan of Lebanese food. We often have it for lunch. Because Yasma is only open for dinner, we lived here for a couple of years before we got around to trying it. But I'm sure glad we did. The flavors here are at a complexity level above any Lebanese food that I've had elsewhere. Even the common dishes, such as hummus, baba ghanoush, and tabbouleh, all contain ingredients and spices that make them stand out and add a terrific level of complexity. For example, the tabbouleh includes not just interesting seasonings but also pomegranate seeds. It was not the only dish that was served with the addition of pomegranate. There was also a delightfully spicy sauce that seemed to be comprised of both pomegranate and harissa. The chef's tasting menu is a terrific way to sample most of the dishes on the menu. Our favorites turned out to be most of the cold course dishes that were served in the first of three rounds. This included: - Hummus - Baba ghanoush - Tabbouleh - A spice tray with a selection of olives As you would expect from a high-end Lebanese restaurant, the pitas are perfectly puffed and delicate. The hot dishes included lamb and chicken and were served on the traditional garlic sauce. The tasting menu concluded with an assortment of bite-sized pieces of baklava. If there was one shortcoming, it was the wine list. The white wines seemed to be of a singular note, although they were offered from four different countries. Unfortunately, they were out of the French Chardonnay, so I might be inclined to bring my own bottle the next time, assuming they have a corkage fee. read more

Ok let's start with what went well. The location of the restaurant by the waterfront is really cute and I bet the outdoor seating is really nice during the summer. Plenty of nearby parking available. We were directly taken to our table when we arrived so there was no wait time (we made reservations a week before). Loved the the arabesque feel (the wall decorations, the eye etc). I was expecting more from this restaurant...in all fairness I'd have rated it a 3.5. The service was quite slow. The appetizers weren't even brought out till after about 20 minutes. We ordered a glass of rose and fresh lemon mint which was ok (a bit on the sweet side). The fattoush was "missing". I appreciated the presentation but it was missing in terms of flavor (maybe a dash of sumac would have made it more flavorful). The muhamarra was drowning in debs el remman. Too sweet. Presentation was nice but the flavor was off for me. The Saj bread was lovely and delicious. The taouk was tasty and flavorful however the spices on it were not exactly what I expected to be on a shish taouk (spicer than expected). I think it would be a good idea to have more sauce given the portion of the chicken on the plate. Maybe swap out the wedges potato for French fries? I think that would be more "authentic" the way it usually is served. All in all, good place to give it a try. Would I come back? Maybe not. read more

I had high hopes for this place. Truthfully the food is good. Not amazing, but overall for food alone, easy solid 4 stars. We wanted the tasting menu option but the waitress checked with the kitchen and said they were too busy to do tasting menus today. ok fine, no big deal. We ordered: Tabbouleh - fine, better than your typical one but that is to be expected for a higher end place like this. 3.5/5 baba ganoush - good. I liked their version. 4/5 stuffed grape leaves - fine. A bit too much on the sour/acid side. If that was all i ordered then its probably fine but everything so far had some acidity and it got a little boring. 3.5/5 A basket of fresh pita bread was served as well - excellent. mixed grill platter - comes with 2 kebab skewers, 2 lamb meatball skewers, 2 salmon fillets, 2 chicken skewers. Served with a side of fried potato wedges and a bit of grilled veg. The chicken was large chunks of chicken breast - sadly this was overcooked and dry. Yes it's easy to overcook chicken breast, but this is a higher end restaurant. There are no excuses for that. Thankfully the lamb and salmon were perfect. Potatoes were excellent. Because of the chicken failure, this is a 4/5. Otherwise it would be higher. Drinks we tried: cedar of lebanon cocktail - big let down. dont bother. All you taste is the bourbon. Might as well get bourbon on the rocks. Mint lemonade - excellent. Seems popular, lots of people ordered it apricot soda - ok. tastes like it sounds. Pricing is on the high side overall, so value for money is just ok given that food, at this price, should be perfect in execution. Dry chicken is a hard no-no. Service - checkin desk person was polite. Our waitress was great, friendly and helpful. So whats the problem? Well one of our companions came with her service dog. She brought the necessary papers and everything, showed it to the checkin lady, and there was no problem. we were shown to our table and the meal was great. The dog, like a typical service dog, stayed put in one spot, not a peep, the entire evening. After we paid, we left. And then on the way out, another waitress whom NEVER served us, came up to me and said "just so you know, we only allow service animals so next time your dog is not allowed here." excuse me? Maybe you should check up with your coworkers before you start making assumptions and baselessly accuse your paying customers. That is highly unprofessional, and ruined the whole experience. Definitely left a bitter taste in my mouth, and made me regret tipping them anything. Not to mention their default minimum top option is 18% on the credit card machine - you expect that kind of tip and you let your staff behave like this? I understand one person's action is necessarily representative of this restaurant. But that waitress still works for this restaurant, and her actions have single handled ruined the meal. I dont know her name, but she was the taller asian one wearing what looked like overalls. So for the food, 4/5. Restaurant vibe also nice. But the behaviour of that one waitress cost you 2 stars, so you get 2/5. read more

It's an upscale place and it's generally full on weekends. The portion sizes are nkt decent, they're really small and don't justify the price you're paying for the food. We were looking for something different than the Asian food options on Robson. Yasma popped up, but doesn't have as many reviews on Yelp. Pleasant surprise. The food is amazing. Shadi, our server, made us feel so welcome. He suggested some options for dishes when we thought we wanted some other things (we were originally thinking salmon, tabbouleh). His suggestions were on point...the favorite is muhammara. We saw many people having celebration dinners here...totally a special place to celebrate! Portions were plenty. Syrian food is not a cuisine you see everywhere so popped in to see if they could squeeze us in on a busy and warm Friday night. They had room for us at the bar where you could get the whole food menu. A super friendly bartender took our order and recommended some amazing Lebanese wine by the glass. If you go, try an assortment of the mezze--we had both hot and cold ones and they were all delicious. And the freshly baked pita bread that comes with your meal--so tasty. The textures, temperature and quality of the food were excellent; very friendly server and staff; located along the end of the sea wall bike path before reaching Stanley Park facing the harbor and marine dock. Freshly baked pita bread, chicken and steak kabobs cooked to the perfect temperature, wonderful fresh fattoush salad and tasty hearty hummus! The flavors all blend well. Recommend! But, WARNING if you have a NUT allergy! We disclosed to our server our high allergy to all nuts. She too understood as she also has a nut allergy. When the special of the day kebab came out, there were large walnuts underneath the meat! I cooked a pretty good (based on friends and family reviews ) lentil soup. Lentil soup at Yasma is Wickedly Excellent. I the combination of pomegranate molasses , red peppers, cumin and nuts (Muhammara). Don't forget to try Fattoush Salad (delicious mixture of cucumber, tomato and a few other ingredients with fried pita bread topping) We had Grilled Kibbeh too. A place to go or to impress a guest...Having dinner overlooking the water, watching all boats and people passing by. Service is good too. If you have never tried Lebanese or Syrian cuisine then you should definitely visit this restaurant. We made reservations a couple of days before and I highly recommend that because it is not a big restaurant thus you are likely have to wait without reservations in advance. They offer a tasting menu that's $89 per person for a minimum of 2 and everyone on the table must order the same. We decided to go à la carte instead fearing the 8 course tasting menu might be too much for the 2 of us. We ended up ordering Babba Ganouch, Fattoush Salad, Fried Kibbeh and Skewer of the Day. Babba Ganouch is made of eggplant with some roti pita bread on the side. Those roti is great and they come out hot to touch hence extremely fresh and tasty. I'm not sure what the proper way of eating that was but we just filled the roti with Babba Ganouch and it was great. Our server also brought more roti before we even asked. Fattoush salad was fantastic with great taste and little carb. Fried kibbeh was a little underwhelming though the dipping sauce was great. Overall I think this place has great service. Our server was very attentive and took the time to explain and recommend dishes for us. The food we had tasted great and looked pleasant too. read more

What a day well worth spent! Spent $120 for two persons for this lebanese x syrian food; it was worth every penny. I do not usually give 5 star reviews and this is one of the few which has gotten it, so this is going to be one of my favourite restaurants in town. Before I depict to the food, I would like to thank my server, Shadi, for being super helpful recommending the food since it was my first time coming there. Shadi was very kind and insightful explaining the dishes as well. He is totally one of my favourite servers in town. My guy is the salt bae in town! For the food: - Unlimited Pita: You can get unlimited freshly baked pita which was so damn good. I have eaten so many but this is totally the best one i have ever had in ny life. - Babba Ganouch ($17): A smoked eggplant with diced vegetables, herbs, pomegranate molasses and walnuts was truly amazing. The texture of the aubergine was just fits so well to mix with the others and the bread. (5/5) - Kibbeh Niyah ($25): The lamb tartare with cracked burgul, peppers and herbs were just the star of the main dish! This is truly amazing and definitely is something you should get. I wish i could order more if i have the stomach to! (5/5) - Tabouleh Salad ($21): The parsley with tomato, onion, cracked wheat and lemon juice are just so fresh to be eaten in the beginning and in the end. It cleanse your mouth basically and just fits to be mixed with the other food and the bread and especially with the kibbeh niyah! Should get this if you order the kibbeh niyah. (5/5) - Shish Tawouk ($26): The yoghurt marinated chicken breast is just damn good especially the dip. These two just make perfect sense. The fries i love fries and it was super delicious. Tip is that combine all of the side dishes with the chicken, the dip and the bread, and you would not be disappointed. I personally hate the shallot though because it made me cry and had my nose blocked, so make sure you combined them all to prevent this from happening! (4/5) - Qatiyef ($14): The folded pancake with clotted cream inside and rinsed with rose water syrup and powdered pistachio made me feel like Anton Ego when he ate the ratatouille; it made me miss home since it is similar to a dish where i came from. What a truly magnificent dish that i could not describe with words. (5/5) Overall, I love Yasma extremely much. This is totally a recommended place to go to if you are visiting Vancouver from outside town or if you are in downtown. You truly cannot miss this place. Cheers! I hope you find this review helps! Food is great. One of the best Middle Eastern restaurants I have been to in North America. I visited once with my family and once with my business guests. In both occasions, we had left the establishment very satisfied. There is no laundry list of items in the menu. So, I pretty much tried everything in their menu. I can say that all of them were quite good. The servers (Lebanese lady in the first visit and Russian lady in the second one) were polite and attentive. When visited with my family, my kids liked the puffy bread they served. The server (Lebanese lady) who was very friendly brought one large bread for the kids to take home. Also, I ended up meeting the owner (or co-owner), Mo. He mentioned that they barbecue the meat in charcoal and his barbecue chef is from Middle East. I love Syrian/Lebanese food so when we passed by Yasma I stopped to look at the menu. We took a chance and made a reservation for dinner. I'm so glad we did! Mezzas were all excellent. We had hummus, beet mutabal, baba ghanoush, tabouleh, and delicious lamb sausages. We then shared the shish tawouk (chicken kebab). This is a dish that can often be too dry, but Yasma's was excellent: juicy and well seasoned. We were too full for dessert. Our cocktails were on point and our table gave us a nice view of the water. My friend Raegan and I ate at Yasma on June 14. Raegan said it was the best food she had ever tasted. Rosa helped us select a wine, giving us tasters before we selected a bottle. She explained the menu very well, and we went with a couple of her suggestions and a couple of our own. The Baba Ganoush was unbelievable. Coupled with a Fattoush salad it was an amazing first course. For the main course we split a Shish Tawouk and an Aleppo Kabab (one skewer of each) plus the Fatteh of the day. With unlimited fresh bread, it was an amazing meal. Plus the location (on the patio, with a view of coal harbour, Stanley Park and the north shore mountains) you cannot beat the location. We will definitely be back, and with more friends next time. TIP: arrive by 5 pm, or make a reservation. When we left, the restaurant was packed and there was a line-up outside. Owner Moe Alameddine thanked us both as we were leaving, and welcomed us back next time we visit. The staff were like family. The food was like heaven. Loved the dishes they served the food in. The food itself was average. I had the Shish Tawouk, which tasted okay. It could have been seasoned better. Also, I was disappointed that they did not offer rice with it. However, the vegetables offered were tasty. My husband had Fatteh Hummus since he is vegetarian.
