Loved the ambiance at this Nuba in Gastown. Definitely an authentic vibe going on here. We were here for lunch, so I don't know what the vibe is like in the evenings. It would have been nice to have some Arabic or oriental music playing in the background. Maybe also some rose saboun in the bathroom would have been nice!! (Ok I'm overdoing it...just sharing my two cents!) Overall food was good, but I think service could be improved. We ordered the cold mezze sampler platter for 3, and we were a party of 4 adults. The portion was good and everything was delicious. I'm GF, and they serve the dips with lettuce for free (or you can order a side of cucumbers for a small charge). The presentation was lovely. The only thing I didn't like was after a while all of the dips just get mushed together and you kinda don't know what you're eating anymore...Also we all loved the jalapeno hummus the most. We asked for arak and it wasn't served the right way...Our server forgot to bring an extra empty glass so that we can mix the arak with water (in the proportional way that we'd like). I asked for an empty glass for mixing in addition to another drinking glass because mine was broken (crack was big and the glass should be chucked out). Server forgot to get an empty mixing glass. We ordered a taouk pita wrap, but we got served a taouk platter instead. Anyhow she just wasn't very attentive. The mixed grill mezze platter was mostly yummy except for the kafta. All of us at the table couldn't have more than a bite of it. The meat was undercooked, and the taste of the lamb was too strong and off. Definitely didn't taste like the kafta we know. Located in the basement and has a cozy, intimate vibe that's perfect for a relaxed night out. Food: -Grilled Chicken Skewer: It was perfectly grilled, juicy, and tender. We wished we'd ordered more! -Pom & Sumac Hummus: Absolutely delicious. The pomegranate added just the right touch of tartness and sweetness. -Shish Barak: Just okay for me, but my husband loved it. This was such a good meal and the perfect stop for a work lunch. Because we were a big group, we did a family style menu. I actually love that because we got to try a little bit of everything. It's a Lebanese restaurant and has 3 branches in Vancouver. I went to the gastown branch, has amazing ambience, very aesthetic and nice warm place. Super busy but you can find a spot here soon. Really loved the service at this restaurant. Extremely friendly, accommodating staff around. We were two so tried the feast of dips here which comes with different kinds of hummus flavours . These are beetroot, jalepeno, normal hummus and others. They give pita breads on the side which is a little cold. I wish they were a bit warm and buttery. Drinks menu also looked tempting. I found the dish okay not too great but it was indeed very fresh. I shall go for falafel platter next time. They do have good vegetarian options. Even though it's in the basement, I like this location more than the Mount Pleasant one (where I had to argue with the hostess to be seated at a larger table than the tiny 2-person one she was going to put us at). My friend and I were seated by the front so we had the light by the staircase. I've eaten the lamb wrap twice now though it's nice when you can enjoy it right there, instead of a SkyTrain ride and then toasting it at home. (Although toasting it does kind of make it better.) Enjoyed the strawberry lemonade though I'd prefer adult sippy cup tops to the paper straw that disintegrates. Last month, my hubs and I came to Vancouver for a 3-day vacay and we ate at Nuba for our last meal before driving back to Seattle. What a fantastic send-off meal! This is my second time coming to Nuba when visiting Vancouver and I have to stay it stays up to my expectations and I cannot wait to come back. The food here is just so flavorful and the drinks are all spectacular. This time around I have to admit that I had a plate that was very flavorless, but I think that the other good food I had outweighed that bad dish. they also carry Flor De Caña rum which is so delicious and they make beautiful and tasty cocktails! The service here is always great. Chicken skewers were a 5/5 perfectly marinated and juicy. The main course, Grilled Half Chicken, was extremely good and spoke highly of days after with my date. There's a great blend of spices smoked and grilled into the chicken. The sauce with roasted corn was full of sweet than tangy and refreshing moments. Everything cohesively tasted so divine. Drinks: I cannot recommend enough choosing a wine from the Lebanese wine section. We ordered the red (CAD $65). Ambience: it feels like your in a decorative cave with cement-like walls and colorful tile placements across the restaurant. There was a wrap around bar which seated no more than 12-14 people. Went here for lunch with some old friends and it was excellent. We split the dips sampler, and friends (& Nuba regulars) had the cauliflower wraps. The food was very good- I would be a "regular" here, too, if I was local! The staff was great and didn't mind us lingering a little over our cucumber waters (it wasn't crowded in mid-afternoon or we would have given up our table, of course). I have several people recommending this place so I came with high expectations. But I was very underwhelmed. The best dish was red lentil soup but would recommend a little bit more lemon juice and salt with it. The pickled red cabbage that came with a lot of the dishes was excellent accompaniment to elevate the flavors. Our 1.5 yo loved it and had a whole bowl!!! Tabouleh was dry. Lamb hushwie was too gamey for our taste - may benefit from more onion sauteed with it. Perhaps my days spent in Paris where many Lebanese restaurants had to compete for business made my standards a bit too high so take my advice was a grain of salt. There was no coursing concept at this place. Whatever you order it will come out within minutes. Be prescriptive if you don't want all of your dishes come out at once. read more

Oh boy! This review breaks my heart as everyone has been reviewing this place. Got myself a vegetarian mezze lunch sampler during lunch. It was not busy just two more tables that had people enjoying lunch. Food was supposed to have falafel, lentils, cauliflower, batata hara with tomato, avocado, pickled cabbage and sauces (tahini, mint and garlic hummus) along with pita. That was it but there was one thing that was prominent in the food and it was.... Hair! Yup, I discovered hair in my food (entangled in cauliflower) and requested the wait staff to please replace it. She looked at me and said "I guess you want the whole thing replaced". I looked at her and said yes please. The food comes, she doesn't give me a side plate unless I get her attention again and ask for it. She's doesn't give me cutlery (as she took it away the first time). I had to myself scoot over and take it from another table. The pita is stone cold and the dishes are strictly ok. Btw the garlic hummus got replaced by tzaziki magically second time around. I was pretty fed up as the apology was half sincere, the service lacked attention. Now, I asked for a juice in the menu, while drinking it there was another hair in the glass. YES! I think between both meals, we maybe got 2 tbs worth if salad (looks big because its laying on too of the hummus and baba - but it was a sprinkle of salad - see picture). We ordered the La Feast (This Price is for 2: $49.50: Two course vegetarian mezze sampler including hummus, baba ghanooj, olives, pickles, feta, taboulleh, Najib's Special, falafel, mjadra, vegan stew & fattoush salad. Served with hot sauce, tahini sauce & tzatziki). We also never got tzatziki and the tabouleh serving was a joke. Fewer olives and just not what is typical. We also ordered the Le Grande Feast (This Price is for 2 Guests. $69.90: Two course sampler including hummus, baba ghanooj, tabouleh, olives, pickles, feta, fattoush salad, Najib's Special, roasted potatoes, lamb chops, spiced prawns & chicken skewers.). Again, not much taboulleh (which I assume they ran out of) and no tzatziki. We also only got one dip each of the hot sauce and tahini. Delivery is more expensive and less than what is expected at this price. Delivery is not worth it in my opinion (and is really disappointing).
