Caring place! We recently visited Cottonwood with our dogs. On a hike, one of dogs appeared to badly injure his paw. Bad luck on a Saturday, the busiest day for veterinarians, and we were out-of-towners to boot! After making a few calls, Verde Vet Hospital was kind enough to squeeze us in. The closer we got to appointment time, the better our dog appeared to be, but we went anyway just as a double-check and courtesy to the hospital. Dr. Gummo-Wagner could not have been kinder, and immediately focused on putting my nervous dog at ease. She carefully checked his foot and joints, and surmised it was most likely a fire-ant bite. We were a bit chagrined, but the good doctor and the staff told us they were glad we had him checked. If I lived here, would definitely take my dog to this vet and this clinic. We trusted Verde Veterinary Hospital with USDA export health certificates for our dog and cat for an international move to Germany. That trust turned into a costly and stressful failure. The certificates were initially submitted to USDA with the wrong year, which made them invalid for endorsement. This error went unnoticed for an entire week, while our departure date approached with no meaningful update or communication from the office. The issue was only discovered on the day of our scheduled international departure, and only after persistent follow-up by our pet transport company--not the veterinary office. From there, the handling continued to fall short: The corrected certificates were not resubmitted until after 5:00 PM, costing an additional full day. Despite clear instructions from our transport coordinator, the office used FedEx Priority Overnight (10:30 AM delivery) instead of First Priority (8:30 AM guaranteed)--a critical difference given airline cargo cutoff times. This directly caused major travel disruption: one pet only made the second rebooked flight because the transport company secured a last-minute exception with Lufthansa after the paperwork arrived past the cargo cutoff. The other pet's paperwork did not arrive in time, forcing us to split up and rebook a third flight for the following day. We incurred significant financial and logistical damages: Missed international departure Multiple flight rebookings and change fees Extended hotel stays near LAX Rental vehicle extensions Additional baggage complications Family separation during an international move One pet made the flight only because of extraordinary efforts by the transport company. The other missed due to delayed paperwork. Communication from the office was poor throughout. Staff repeatedly indicated they could not act without the veterinarian, leaving us in limbo during a time-sensitive international relocation. Mistakes can happen--but failing to detect a critical submission error for a week, delaying corrective action, and then mishandling time-sensitive shipping is not acceptable when clients are relying on you for international travel compliance. I cannot recommend this practice for USDA export documentation. read more

The front desk staff ( especially Lena) are not very nice. Is it really too hard to see Hello or Hi? I have been a client (yes I am the client, not my dog) for over 9 years. I was at the clinic 3 times in the last 3 days trying to obtain tx for my dog. Today the Front desk staff acted like they never seen me before. Dr Wagner implied that my dog had symptoms of a UTI because my dog was upset that I was gone for one night. Charged me over $250 for a urine test and antibiotics. She also implied that I somehow was responsible that my dog's urine was "diluted". Finally got was meds and wondering if I'll go back or if it's time to find another vet. read more

I'm more than thrilled to write a review talking about how great Verde Vet is. They were easy to schedule with and got my dog in relatively quick. I've been to several vets for my dogs eye and Audrey explained everything the best. I liked the way she treated my dog and you can tell she loves what she does. My dogs eye has a condition where the cornea doesn't want to heal. She recommended scrapping the scab off which would make it a flat surface for the eye to be able to heal. Im confident my dogs eye will heal pretty quick after our visit with Verde Vet. I highly recommend them for any of your pets needs. I drove up from Phx and I'm glad I did. read more

Dr Yang is so very compassionate and smart every time I have brought my Bentley into the clinic for a problem she always pinpointed the problem almost immediately with out putting my cat through expensive tests that I couldn't afford she always worked with me knowing that I am on a tight budget living on SS and treated me fairly plus the rest of the staff were all so very kind and caring. read more

My elderly dog has had Valley Fever since he was 5 years old. Verde Valley Vet Clinic called in a prescription for fluconazole to a local pharmacy last week. The pharmacy said they never got the prescription. Because that was not the first time with that particular pharmacy that this happened, I called this morning and asked that they call the prescription to a different pharmacy. Verde Valley agreed to speak with the doctor. Apparently, Dr. Rusch REFUSED to refill without seeing the patient first. I went into the office and spoke with the office manager. I explained that because the pharmacy screwed up; I am now without medication (which can be life threatening to my dog). I asked that they refill the prescription first because I am out; and I said I would be glad to take my dog in for an exam. The man that runs the office did not even have the nerve to advocate for dog. He just told me that if the doctor refuses to fill, than that is all he can do. I told them they are FIRED. i DO NOT recommend this clinic. I am a medical professional, and I can tell you this clinic that would risk a dogs life and refuse to refill, when I told them I would bring the dog in, WRONG ANSWER! I would additionally like to warm prospective clients that the Verde Valley Vet Clinic gouges clients on diagnostic exams. Verde Valley quotes $400 for a Valley Fever test. This same test will run you $300 to $350 at Danza Del Sol, and $260 at Airpark Vet. Service. In other words, Verde Valley is making a lot of money off of the tests they recommend for your pet. I truly understand that Vets need to see patients prior to prescribing. What the difference is here is that the patient was well known to the clinic; and has been in more than a couple of times at Verde Valley, in the past year. Any Vet worth their salt would have refilled the medication so as not to cause adverse consequences to the animal; and I was totally amendable to bringing in the dog the next available appointment. The office manager should have made the next available appointment for the dog, and request that the doctor fill the medication so the dog did not have consequences. read more

This is the most expensive place to go to. When I went in, there was a large dog barking in the back. Didn't stop the whole 20 min. I was in the waiting room. I was told he just woke up. Poor guy, was probably scared. I heard no one trying to comfort him. read more

We just moved to Cornville so we needed a new vet for our two canines. One is an aging Golden Lab and the other, a cute little Chihuahua. Both needed rabies booster shots and a check up so we went here on the recommendation of my sister in law. Although the office is aging mid century decor, the staff and doctor were all very friendly, attentive and competent. We were in and out relatively quickly although we decided to wait for some blood work results for Pal who needed some new pain meds for his deteriorating hip joints. They also obtained our records from our previous vet before we arrived which was professional. VVH will be our new veterinarian service from now on. read more

Our pets have been patients at Verde Veterinary Hospital since 2003. I have the utmost trust in them and their care of our beloved lil' buddies. We have two old dogs (ages 12 & 11) and two young ones (ages 4 & 2) and the vets and techs at VVH have taken great care of all of them since puppyhood. They have also been the primary health care for two of our cats, one current and one past. In addition to basics like neutering, yearly check-ups & vaccines, VVH has helped us with dental issues and cleanings, food & environmental allergies, injuries, and muscle/skeletal problems for the dogs. They're great with our small dogs, and very aware of problems common to specific breeds. We have two chihuahuas, one "chiweenie" and a Boston Terrier. They are honest and up front about treatments and options, taking finances into account. They also offer good holistic suggestions (supplements, etc.) for maintenance of good health or solving/preventing chronic issues. For our cats, they've assisted with solving a urinary tract infection problem with our current cat and helped us gracefully deal with the fatal illness of our previous cat when he was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease, a hereditary condition common to "exotic" cat breeds and blends. We were able to let him live his last weeks comfortably and when the time came we were able to arrange for the vet to come to our home to put our cat to sleep, which made this very sad experience somehow less painful. The desk staff is always pleasant, welcoming, efficient, helpful and willing to work with my schedule to arrange appointment times. The techs and doctors are consistently wonderful. My only concern with VVH is that they've stopped offering emergency service after hours. I have never had to use it as of yet, but I worry as my dogs become geriatric what I will do if I have an afterhours emergency (currently VVH patrons are directed to some vet over the mountain, an hour away in Prescott, which quite honestly, ain't gonna cut it for me in an emergency situation). I hope they do get an emergency service plan back in action locally someday. read more

I was a little anxious about taking my dog there because of some bad reviews on Yelp, and I usually take my pet to another vet, but couldn't because they were closed because of Covid, but they were very good. The decor is a little dated, but that's not the important thing. Prices were very reasonable. I'd have no qualms about going there again in the future. read more

I'm new to the area, so I brought my 12 year old dog here for the first time. I dont know exactly what happened, but he was diagnosed with a severe urinary tract infection, he stopped eating after the visit and 5 days later I had to put him down. I called once and left a message with the receptionist on Thursday and called again the next day and they were closed due to the snow on Friday. Couldn't someone have called me? He got so sick that I had to put him down on Saturday. I'm devastated. read more

Found this place on yelp when our dog had a paw injury. They got us in same day and got our dog taken care of very quickly. Staff was very friendly and helpful My only complaint was it is a little pricey. I am very happy with my cat's treatment at Verde Veterinary Hospital. Over the past two years, I've been to 4 different vets for my cat's condition. Dr. Rusch was the only vet that took the time to listen to what I had to say about her symptoms, and offered me a bunch of options for solving the problem. She made sure my questions were all answered, and followed up with phone calls. My cat is finally getting well, thanks to the dedicated team at Verde Veterinary. I normally would not leave a negative review but I do not recommend anybody take their dog to this vet. I rescued a dog from the Verde Valley humane society and I took her home and she was coughing and having breathing problems so I immediately made a vet appointment at the Verde Valley vet.  visit one: they said she just has a reverse sneeze she doesn't need the medication even though I asked for some  And told her she was at the humane society and before that a stray and I was worried she had A contagious respiratory disease or kennel cough.  I took her home trusting their judgment. 4 days later she was coughing even more not eating and now very lethargic  Also my other dog who's a senior now had it and was sick so at this point I knew she had a contagious respiratory illness. I told them this on the phone but they still had me wait in the waiting room 25 min for a visit number 2 with other dogs that may be exposed.  Finally they gave me 14 days of antibiotics and 9 days of predazone. Unfortunately she threw up a lot of the medicine and per the doctor's orders they told me to give her another dose if that happens.  I took her in again a week later visit number 3. I told them I only had enough of 7 doses antibiotics and 5 days prednisone.  They said she doesn't need to finish up either medicine and she should be fine even though I told them she's still coughing a lot but improved. I told them the humane society director said make sure she stays on it for 14 days  Because shes seen it come back if you don't. A few days went by  With no medicine and she was really sick again so I called the vet to ask to come pick up some medicine at this point I'd already spent a lot of money and they refused Saying the original vet I saw is not there and this vet today says they says she won't dispense it   But they would call me back I waited about 8 hours for them to call me back Checking in again and telling them I was waiting at 2 PM.   Finally when I called at 4 She said because the vet I originally saw wasn't in today they couldn't do anything for me.  It's now Friday night and most vets including them are closed on the weekends and the emergency vet is in Flagstaff. I tried to be understanding when they 1st mistagnosed her but their lack of care and concern for my sick 5 pound puppy and other dogs that they exposed is in my opinion horrible.  I even told them what the director of the humane society said and they said they don't know what they're talking about. I have Had animals my whole life and I have never experienced a vet clinic like this. read more

Where do I begin... let me start with please, do not bring your animals here. I see some good reviews here and that is great, for the most part, because they are always short staffed and go through Veterinarians as a revolving door, they will misdiagnose your precious animals and like I have read here and experienced myself bad or fatal things can and will happen. I brought my dog to them a few times, again I was new to the area, and the first visits were adequate, but the next few were different doctors, filthy rooms, horrible treatment and the very last visit was enough for me... I wanted my dogs teeth checked which I had to remind the doctor of of which she did huffily though, and she said she saw build-up and that he had periodontal disease.. I was confused because I take care of my dogs teeth and regularly had them cleaned. She gives me a treatment plan with 10 to 11 extractions attached!! OH HELL NO! my little yorkie is 10 years old he's well taken care of, So, of course I took him for a second opinion someplace else, where it was clean and the staff cared and the doctor and vet nurse were attentive and knowledgeable.. MY DOG DOES NOT NEED HIS 10 LITTLE TEETH EXTRACTED...PLEASE EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION TO DOES NOT NEED. So, as an older dog he would have gone under anesthesia at risk and his teeth literally ripped out for no reason according to this doctor... I will add the receipts so you all can see right now I am livid, he doesn't have periodontal disease at all!! OMFG WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE? DO NOT GO HERE. read more

Not long ago we began taking our dog Frankie to them for care and they were fine for brief examinations and such, shots, pills and little else. On this past Tuesday my wife brought Frank to them for emergency help as he was attacked by two American Bulldogs who tore him up pretty bad. They cleaned his wounds, stitched him up and sent him home with antibiotics and inflammation pills. He got worse by the next day with swelling in the belly, not taking liquids and very lethargic. We took him back and they changed his meds, said his body will absorb the fluid swelling and gave him IV pain meds. No X-rays or blood work was ever taken and they sent him home again. By day three he couldn't move, walk or take fluids so we took him to the Sedona Small Animal Hospital for a second opinion where they said he was in critical condition after they did X-rays and blood work, he died less than a hour later in the ICU area. Cause of death, extremely low blood sugar, kidney and liver failure all from the mauling he took and which might have been found if only they took the necessary precautionary diagnostic testing. Thank you Verde Veterinary hospital! I called January 2nd at 8:07, new patient the morning after a long holiday weekend--Amelia answered the phone. Amelia was expedient, professional and gave me a couple of options for an appointment that day. My White cat had an abscess that was treated at Prescott Emergency the Saturday before $$$$. The site was filled with fluid and needed to be drained. Dr. Gummo-Wagner was perfect. She enlarged one of the punctures to allow for drainage and an additional antibiotic for better coverage of gram negative. White kitty is better and eating again. My black cat got in a tussle with the same neighborhood cat and was showing signs of infection! I liked VVH so much I brought my other cat in the following morning. They were all just as wonderful the next day. Patty also works at the very busy front phone desk--and she is very pleasant and efficient.The Vet techs that helped take care of my cats were wonderful as well. A small suggestion-- introduce yourself after human and pet get in the exam room. Thank you all for making this week so much better. I am very grateful. read more

I just moved back to Cottonwood. My dog hurt her foot last night and I needed to have her seen. I took her into this veterinary hospital with an appointment that I had made ahead of time. It took a long, long time to be seen and we were actually 45 minutes early... We sat and watched people come in the door, be called to a room, be seen, come out, pay their bill and leave while we sat there. We were told that there was an emergency when we first arrived, but, how were these people/pets getting seen? I did like the actual vet, but I felt that her foot should have been bandaged. Then I asked for the new client discount that is an online offer, I was told that since I was found in the computer from way back and 19 freakin 91 under my old married name 2 marriages ago and I now use my maiden name, they could not honor that offer. It makes me wish I would have never told them that I was ever there before! I think 25 years and two marriages later does qualify for a new client considering they've changed hands and I have moved away several times. That's a bunch of BS! I since then, have change my name twice, gotten 2 divorces. been through several pets, moved several times (out of the area), and here I am being told that 25 years ago since I had been there I couldn't qualify as a new client. I guarantee you that because of their actions toward myself and my friend who rescues pets and was supposed to get a pet rescue discount and was given nothing but the run around and a lot of bull, I will not be returning. read more

We were traveling with our 2 little house rescue dogs and they both got car sick. We looked on the iPhone for the nearest vet to where we were located and it happened to be Verde Veterinary Hospital. They are really the best of of the best! The staff and doctor were very concerned about our animals, The doctor prescribed meds and the dogs felt a lot better almost immediately. They were all so nice and would highly recommend them to anyone! :) read more

We just loved the Verde Veterinary hospital. We are traveling and one of our two dogs the little chihuahua got an eye infection, he always does so we were treating it but it just got worse. I looked on Yelp and we called they got us right in the next morning. They were so good with him, we are taking our Sheltie Sophie tomorrow and Jr back for a check up to be sure his eye is ok. The same Doctor wanted to see him so she would know what to look for. I appreciated her follow through. While we are here that is our vet, and I will send people over there! read more

I hadn't been in before, but the little feral cat I care for was in a fight and needed to be seen. I called this hospital for two reasons. They take the Care Credit card which make payment a little easier, and they are an accredited hospital. I really didn't know if I could even get the cat, but as soon as I did, they mad it easy for me to bring her in. I was quite happy. The staff was nice and helpful. the doc, Dr. Nelson, was fabulous at handling the cat ( her Tech was too) they treated her with everything possible, (that I asked for ) knowing how hard it is to trap her. It's not like a house cat, you can't just go in whenever! The hospital is a little loud, I can make a nervous human (and animal) a bit uneasy, but as soon as the doc came into the room, I calmed down! I would recommend this place. read more

We scheduled a house call to put our dog down and they didn't show up or call. We had to call them and ask what the Heck was going on. It was inconsiderate and absolutely horrible to sit and wait only to find out they had messed up the schedule. They did not come over and make it right. I try to only review when I'm happy with a service but this was unacceptable. Might want to call someone else. There are many good vet's in the area. read more

Just picked up CoCo from Verde Veterinary Hospital where she had been boarded for 5 days while we had to be out of state without her. As always, it was obvi she had been well taken care of, she was happy, clean and ready to go home. CoCo is a 3 year old Chocolate Malti-Poo and has stayed with her friends at the Verde Veterinary Hospital countless time, always with the same happy results. I recommend them without reservation. She is always happy to visit the very friendly, efficient staff, who treat her like the little Princess she is. Dr. Pocernich and her tech take care of all of CoCo's needs. I can not believe this place is still in business with the way they conduct business. Im sure they are adequate if all you need is a booster, but if you have a sick dog, a dog needing surgery, anybody who needs to be neutered... RUN the other way. These people act like animals are a huge burden to them, even before they meet the animal! In just one of my several (all horrible) experiences with them. They actually had the nerve to call me and cancel my dogs surgery appointment because they had an "emergency" that desperately needed to be tended to, then one of the secretaries told me that the dog that took mines place was having a teeth cleaning. Its obvious they prefer the easy jobs that make more money, over the well being or happiness of the pets and people they serve. read more
