Decided to try Yavis on the way out of Drumheller. It is a typical diner place with somewhat older decor. It was kind of dark when we came in and they eventually must have realized this because about halfway through our breakfast the lights were turned on. Food is OK. We had breakfast so basically it is eggs, cheese and veggies or whatever meat you want to add to the menu. It was nothing special but nothing particularly horrible. The service wasn't great honestly. Our server slammed our food and drinks down on the table and sounded kind of offended when we ordered our food or asked her questions. There was an elderly server who was great at refilling our coffees and checking on our tables though. I will say however that the bathrooms are beautiful. I was not expecting the bathrooms to look so spectacular. They also are one of two places that are open early on holiday weekends which is awesome. So all in all this place was OK! read more

Service: Very friendly and attentive. The server told me about the specials and was quick to fill my water when it was low. Atmosphere: It's a family run restaurant with a nice small town vibe. I went for lunch and the place was full, mostly with more senior folks. The menu is catered for all types of people from children to the elderly. Nice and spacious place to dine. Taste / Value for money: I opted for the rainbow trout entree, although there was a lasagna on special for $14.95 with dessert included! The fish was deep fried and tasted nice when dipped into tar tar sauce - I mean, what doesn't taste good deep fried. The dish was accompanied by mashed potatoes and frozen veggies. The veggies were a bit soft but that didn't affect me. Mashed potatoes tasted nice and I added some gravy. The gravy was a bit thicker than I would like but it did the trick. All and all, it was a nice meal and kept me full. The total came to $18 with tax and tip. A bit more than I would spend for lunch but then again, it was a bigger lunch than I would normally eat. You're not escaping this place without two giant scoops of mashed potatoes. I got there with two other people as soon as it opened and there seemed to be the regulars already at their seats. We asked our server what to order and she said the veal cutlets. The person I was with ordered French toast and two over easy eggs with bacon. It seemed fine. And he seemed to like the food. I noticed the yikes of the egg were like a pastel yellow and not a vibrant yellowish-orange. Seemed bizarre to me. My veal cutlets came (pretty much) as pictures. I cut the veal with a butter knife. It was very tender. Cooked perfectly. The potatoes were good. I didn't eat the carrots. Frozen bagged carrots aren't my thing. It was served swimming in brown gravy with a couple packets of butter AND apple jelly on the side. Our server asked if I'd need MORE gravy. A generous but unnecessary offer. I came here today and ordered a cheeseburger and once I started eating it saw a bunch of black/green dots on the bun. I told the waitress and she took it back to find another bun. Then she brought it back claiming it was seeds. The bun is white as white can be and somehow it has seeds only in the outside as mold spores. She continued to argue with me over and over again. If i could give it a zero i would but i cant so i give it a one.I went here back when my husband and I were visiting in 2019 before our son was born I was heavily pregnant but they shoved us into the pub section no reasons at all,then the waitress was just plan rude when I asked up the juice sizes as nobody uses 9 oz and 14 Oz where we are from most people just use s,m,L. We had a very poor interaction with this restaurant. The place was busy but clearing out when we entered. We were seated quickly and that is when the service went downhill. He took our order and then had to send another server back to retake our order. It took almost an hour to get our meal and it showed up only after I stopped a server and said we were leaving. This is an excellent, inexpensive option for travellers and locals alike. During a whirlwind trip, my boyfriend and I stopped here for lunch before heading back on the 4 hour drive home. I had previously ate at Yavis many years prior, but I am hard-pressed to remember any detail besides the fact that my family and I were impressed by the quality and cost. Upon entering, the first thing you will notice is the lack of aesthetic. The odd signage hangs on the wall, but Yavis doesn't make an effort to dress themselves up. The menu boasted an incredible amount of options. Rainbow trout, Greek salads, liver and onion, burgers and fries, Italian pastas, and I could go on. My boyfriend and I both struggled to settle on a dish. After a fair amount of deliberating, he chose the "Cheeseburger Delux" and I went for the rainbow trout. It didn't take long before two unassuming meals were placed in front of us. My trout looked as if it were cooked and plated by my grandmother. It came with two scoops of mashed potato and some peas. The potato had no sauce or gravy, which left something to be desired, but I found the tartar sauce that was given to suffice. My partner loved his burger. His only complaint was that he didn't opt for a bigger one! Once dessert came around, we ordered the apple pie - one of the many pie options the menu has listed. Oddly enough, the server bluntly responded that they don't, in fact, have any pies at all for dessert. That did cause some disappointment, as my boyfriend definitely saved some room intentionally for pie! Overall, we enjoyed the food and the homey, unpretentious ambience of Yavis. read more

Stopped in for a quiet supper with the kids after a long day of sight seeing. Not what we got. Got a table quickly, but didn't get a menu or water. The service was extremely slow. When the waitress did arrive she was polite and friendly just appeared to be overwhelmed. It looked like she was maintaining the whole floor. The food was mediocre. One order of salmon and mashed potatoes. The salmon was ok but remember you can eat it raw too. The mashed potatoes (from the 11yr old) they taste like the ones from the box mom. The 7yr old had a burger. Maybe he was just hungry but he said it was good. The fish and chips were way to greasy. My only comment is that it was real cod. read more

I came here for breakfast one morning. It wasn't super busy and I got seated pretty quickly. The menu (breakfast at least) was pancakes, french toast, bacon, eggs, etc. I got the hamburger steak and eggs, which is a hamburger patty, two eggs cooked anystyle, hashbrowns, and toast. The meal also came with a tiny orange wedge (I'm sure more for decorative purposes). The eggs I got sunny side up and they were cooked perfectly, and I really liked the hashbrowns. The hamburger patty was okay, but it was just a basic hamburger patty and I think next time I'd splurge on the extra $2 for the actual steak. The toast was toast I mean it's hard to fail that. Service wasn't super quick, but fast enough, and the waitress (a young girl who I think was pretty new), checked back often enough to see if I needed a refill on my coffee. Not sure if I'd say it's the best breakfast I've ever had, but it was pretty good and definitely a spot I'd return to on my next visit to Drumheller. read more

Ugh where do I start.... you know it's going to be bad service when the waitress almost dumps a tray of drinks on your sister ... it was very busy.... Canada Day 2017. Only seemed to be 2 or 3 waitresses working in the restaurant. Our waitress took our beverage order, I ordered lemonade for my son & I, my husband ordered a twisted tea. I assumed the lemonade would be Minute Maid or a similar brand as it was under the "pop" section. We received our lemonade, which was really just tap water with lemon juice, $2.95~ each... I asked if it was from the pop machine, she said yes. She gave my husband a glass with half melted ice, supposedly for his twisted tea, which would have just watered down his drink. The inside of the glass was dirty. It actually looked like it was from someone else's table and hadn't been taken to the kitchen. When I asked the waitress if it was for his drink or from another table, because it was dirty, she didn't believe me and gave the glass an inspection denying it was dirty, then made a point that she would show the kitchen" to shame them for having a dirty dish. We had to ask for a kids menu and additional cutlery. She took our orders, there was 4 adults & 1 child. My sister & brother in law ordered their meals as well as a large Caesar salad to start and share. My husband ordered his meal with a casear salad to start. I ordered my meal with a garden salad to start. I ordered my son the "dinobuddies." My garden salad came, it was ok besides the wilted brown lettuce which I find unappetizing. I couldn't believe that the other salads didn't come at the same time. The waitress said it's because the garden salad is made ahead, and the Caesar salad comes from the kitchen.... my family got their salads 25 minutes after me!! During the time that we waited for their salads, the waitress came back to our table 3 times, at one point putting her hands around my waist, asking what we ordered, for some reason she couldn't get to the computer to input the order?? The Caesar salads had fake bacon bits. I always like it when the waitresses bring the kids meals out early, but this certainly didn't happen. A different waitress brought out the 4 adult meals, she said "enjoy" and I said "you're bringing more right?!" She said "no?" Well the waitress completely forgot my sons order. This poor waitress had to fix her mistakes and put a rush on my sons order. Our waitress came back and apologized three times. The third time she said this never happens to her. We suggested that she write things down when people order. She gasped and said "I've never forgotten anything!" We told her "obviously you do." We had to ask for ketchup, and received an empty bottle ‍ We didn't wait for our bill so we just went up and paid. The first waitress didn't have our bill separated so the cashier had to figure everything out. She discounted me on the lemonade giving me 1 free, I would have been happier receiving both lemonade and my sons meal free. We got there at 12:30, and didn't leave till 2.... what a waste of time. Our food also came with a lot of prepackaged things like ranch dressing and tarter sauce which I think should be home made or at least served in a dish. read more

Asked for a high chair and was told to get it myself, food arrived at table French fries where like ice, waitress put her hand in my wife's food to check the temputure when we sent it back to the kitchen both plates went back due to cold fries. Received dirty looks from both the waitress and the cook in the back. How dare we send back cold food and complain. Had to ask several times for water. The bathrooms are atrocious, used paper allover the floor in the woman's bathroom in the stalls and outside the stalls, same with the men's. General state of the restaurant is poor, dropped food on the floors and in need of a good sweeping. Had to wait for the bill at the end on the meal. No refills on coffee. Waitress avoided us like we had the plague. Told "Dave" my concernes and was snickered at when we went to pay for the bill read more

Went to Drumheller on a day trip. Asked some locals for a lunch recommendation and was sent to Yavis (Maybe they did it as a joke?). Wife and 3 young kids. Sat down immediately and wasn't talked to again for another 15 until the huffy waitress came by with the menu. another 10 minutes before we saw tiny cups of water appear. Don't try to make any changes to the menu like we did. Simple things like asking for the dressing on the side will be met by a sigh and a snort. We thought that was bad until the food came. It was cold and looked like it had sat around for days. Enedible! A Rueben sandwich with ONE thin slice of corn beef (if you even call it that). A ceasar salad drowned in dressing (hence wanting it on the side!). Lemon chicken was rubber with fossilized frozen vegetables and burnt rice. We asked for mustard at one point and was thrown two packets. Plain lazy servers. Don't waste your time or money here. read more
