I purchased a Paint Nite event as a Christmas gift for my husband. Neither of us had ever been to one before so we weren't sure what to expect. Originally, it was to be held at the Diamond Knot Brewery but location was changed to the Old Spaghetti Factory. The room and set up seemed sufficient though it was quite cold the whole time. Our instructor was great at taking us through each step, holding the canvas up high, and walking through the aisles so that everyone could see what to do. She was very encouraging. I felt like the difficulty of the painting was well suited to our time available. I purchased this event for $35 each and that felt right. I would definitely do this again... I liked the guided creativity which then made me feel more confident about making some artistic changes, and it was neat to see how everyone interpreted the colors and directions differently. read more

This made me very uncomfortable as I didn't realize my private contact info was not being protected by Paint Nite, and began worrying about my credit card info which was used to purchase the tickets. After emailing my complaint to the company and their local Facebook page, I received a "Thanks for bringing this to our attention" email, with no apology and no follow up, nor any clarification on what happened to my personal info. It has been 8 months now with still no word. This was extremely uncool and potentially unsafe for me, so I will no longer be giving them my business. SO MUCH FUN!!! Who knew I could paint? I went into Paint Nite being super apprehensive and nervous about painting, and I could tell from a lot of others around me that they were critical of their artistic ability as well. Ian, our instructor, was super amazing and thorough with his directions. He provided great constructive feedback as he walked around and guided everyone with tips on what colors to blend, what strokes to use, which paintbrush to use, etc. He made it carefree, fun and relaxing. I planned a girls night out for me and nine of my girlfriends for the "Love Birds" painting at Henry's Tavern. The venue changed about two times, but that was fine. Paint Nite was great about informing us about the changes so we knew what to expect. Henry's has a parking lot which was a plus too since the other pubs/bars downtown or in Ballard don't exactly have easy parking. Get to the venue early though if you have a big group and want to sit together. Anyway, the cool thing about everyone painting the same piece is that everyone still ends up with a fairly different painting. I decided to paint my water blue while the majority had it like the original; red, yellow and orange. I saw some of the other abstract ones, some painted yachts in the background, owls instead of birds, rocks instead of mountains, etc. There are no limitations and no judging! Such a safe place. The great thing about Paint Nite was that it was fun, something new and experimental. Most of us really wanted to do it again and after this review, I'm going to check out what other paintings they offer. I highly recommend everyone trying this activity at least once! The actual painting class started at 7pm so my friends and I decided to do happy hour at the restaurant before that. Well... this isn't about paint nite but THE FOOD WAS BOMB.COM! each raw oyster was $1.5 and very fresh! we each got a slider (salmon and oyster), and also shared the clam chowder poutine... nomnomnommmmm. we each payed $12 with tip and tax CHEAP AND DELICIOUS. NOW about paint nite. WILL DEF. DO IT AGAIN!!! extremely friendly and helpful instructor (Gregory Copploe). Took the time to go through the steps with every person there. We went for the paint nite for the first time yesterday at the venue Mulleady 's Irish pub. I am not that impressed on how they lay the seating . If you get the seat in the far back next to the Bar . There is impossible to see how the instructor show how to paint on her canvas . we can only hear of the idea of how to do it but we are not the experienced painter and sometimes it s hard to understand of how to do it plus other people who got ten seats at front likes to stand up and paint their art and that definitely block us to see what s going at front at all. Most of us feel rushed through the steps of painting . one guy sitting next to us even say he thought the paint event is supposed to be fun and relaxed but it seems like a hassle to him . Maybe the painting we choose might be too complicated or 2 hours are not enough . The instructor walked to us , people sitting in the back, showing how to do some steps. In my opinion they could have tried to put the screen on the instructor s paint so everyone could see it too or at least try to tell people in the front to sit down when she shows so everyone could see it, I might try one more event with paint nite at different venue and different instructor to see if there will be better than this . Now that summer is long gone, what to do in this gloomy city during this 9 months of darkness? Bring on the indoor activities! There are oodles of painting events/ classes in Seattle and Kirkland. There's wine and painting, palette and pairing in Kirkland and few more in Fremont and Seattle. They all give you similar fun: drink wine and Learn to paint a particular painting in 3 hours or so. Needlessly to say: I was always tempted to go. Tempted: not over excited. Along came Paint nite: they do pretty much the same things except they do them in my favorite bars! Whaaaaaaaaa. Painting in Ballard Annex oyster house???????!! &@#^*£?! It's kind of my favorite place. I waited so long for them to open, went and creeped on them during construction, tasted them at Ballard seafood fest etc etc. Needless to say: I signed up right away. For $50 , you get to pick the date based on the painting that you want to do in a particular bar. I did wait a little bit since I wasn't too crazy about the first few paintings at the Ballard Annex. They also have classes in Fado', Von trapps etc on set days. Well, they had me at oysters and paintings. The class! 40 people in Ballard Annex's private room : when you arrive, you can choose a seat with all the canvases and paints readily set up for you. You just have to choose where you want to sit. I think that was a harder task than painting since the class was completely full. You will be close and cozy to your fellow painters next to you. But it's part of the fun. We painted a Seattle skyline with space needle and a moon over a very fast 3 hours. Jeff our teacher was charming, funny and helpful. You kind of have to speak up if you need help though. It is a fast pace class. 3 hours of rum filled drinks and paint all over your apron later: I painted my first master piece: a sleepy moon over Seattle skyline. My first attempt at painting came out A ok! There were far more talented people in the class with prettier results but it's about the experience. Yes,that's what I'm telling myself! Best part: I now have a special code for future classes at half the price! Woot woot. Maybe girls night? Lazy Sundays? So many options! I attended my first Yaymaker class with my daughter and we painted a beautiful starry scene with trees...Hannah F was our hostess and she did a great job encouraging the group of "artists" to find their inner creative side. Hannah spoke clearly and was very attentive making her way across the room with a smile and helpful idea's. I recently had a double date night at the Von's location. This was such a fun experience! We let Greg know early that we were in a group of 4 and he made sure that we sat together (the other couple was across from us, which was nice because we were able to laugh and talk together the whole time). We enjoyed drinks (waitress was very attentive) while painting. Personally, I am no artist but Greg was able to walk the group through the painting step by step and made it an easy fun experience. Even though we were all painting the same thing we all had unique different versions of the Seattle sound landscape that we painted. I'm proud to say that our paintings turned out great and they have made a great addition to our home. We will be doing this again soon and I can't wait! Such a great night out! Their site is easy to navigate. Just pick a painting, location or day that works for you. I will say they sold out quickly of a few paintings but I think that was because a groupon was expiring. Wasn't sure what to expect when showed up. So we showed up early to make sure got seats next to each other. The instructor was friendly and everything was already set up for you! Check in went quickly. They hand you an apron, so feel free to wear whatever you want. The instructor did a great job of giving directions on what to do. Super easy to follow step by step. My only complaint was the step by steps were kinda slow. I know a few people were really enjoying drinks from the bar so that could be why they go slow! I attended a painting party for my wife's work function and this was my first time painting since Art class in school. I was a little skeptical about what to expect especially since I was already getting my drink on by the time we sat down in front of our canvas. Carmel By the Sea was our objective to paint (landscape with cliffs and the ocean with sailboats), and it sure was nice having an example to follow along with. Our instructor was pretty cool, he was laid back but also kept us on track and was very helpful in taking care of our questions or bailed us out when we were messing up the paintings. I think one of the best things was seeing how each person interprets art differently. Everyone has their own take on what to paint and some people went completely off track and painted their own thing. It was nice to not be tied to any rules or structure. They teach you some handy basics of painting and I learned a lot from color combinations. It was a fun time! read more

I attended this event as apart of a Meet Up group and had a blast. If you are looking to attend Paint Nite in hopes of receiving a very serious, structured art lesson, then this isn't the venue for you! YES, the artists (Greg was my host) are very knowledgeable about painting techniques, color mixing and how to use the brushes, but that is not the focus of Paint Nite. Paint Nite is to have FUN, be social, interact and learn the basics of painting to create a fun piece of art for yourself. Didn't seem like they cared that they canceled classes or changing events chronically. My first cancelled class was a wine bottle with lights that totaled $47.00, when I rescheduled I was only given $35.00 towards another class and was asked to pay the difference in material, this is unacceptable. Run! don't walk. I don't know that Greg Copploe will be with PaintNite much longer. He is widely recognized as a gallery artist in the oil painting world. But, as long as you can, dart in and take in a fun afternoon with his tutelage. The Ballard Annex Oyster House is a fine venue (they should whittle the edge off their prices), but the painting is what made me log onto a laptop on a weekend I was planning to be screenfree. My boyfriend and I came with zero expectations/just using a gift. And hot dog, what a ball it was to follow Greg's lead and paint to our hearts content. Needless to say, the result was largely due to his fantastic ability to lead us along the path of masterpiece creationism. So awesome! read more

The instructor was very nice but he wasn't very direct with his instructions and it kind of stressed me out. Girls' Night Out with Paint Nite (and at a brewery!) was the most fun time! A group of us gals decided to do a Paint Nite event. Then we found a Groupon for $25 ($45 value) and saved ourselves enough money to pay for our spirits! The website was easy to navigate. First we chose a painting that we liked, then a night that worked for us all, and lastly chose from the locations offered. It was easy. We all signed-up separately and carpooled to the event. We arrived with time to spare, and chose our seats (together) and ordered our drinks. Cons: - The presenter went a tad fast. I had a hard time keeping-up, but it was manageable. - Some patrons had "a few too many" and got a little loud, which I found annoying. Nevertheless, it was a nice unwind. Funny: there were a few elderly gentlemen tying-1-on, in another corner of the establishment. They benefited from the FREE instruction, but mostly were just eyeing the roomful of ladies painting. Suggestion: Girls Night Out! Not Date Night! There were maybe 2 couples present, and the guys didn't look too enthused. However, they did comment at the closure that they had a LOT of fun. Wow! Paint Nite Seattle was an absolutely wonderful experience. I would highly recommend Paint Nite for anyone looking to do something fun and out of the ordinary. After we got started, the atmosphere was relaxing and noncompetitive and put me in a great mood. The instructor Ian did a wonderful job at explaining each step to the class and came around to offer helpful support and inspiration. He was great! The painting Love Birds was a perfect beginners level painting for someone like myself, not having picked up a brush in ages. It now hangs in my office and I get compliments on it daily. My daughter and I had a great time! It was a lot of fun! It was so interesting to see everyone's picture come out slightly different. The instructor was very easy going. She definitely made it relaxing and enjoyable for everyone. The Ward Johnson Winery where the event was held was spacious and welcoming. The wine selection was excellent. It was a perfect pairing to go along with the relaxed atmosphere of the painting class. I've done 3 of these within the last year-ish, and have two more booked for upcoming events. The people who run these have always been fun, upbeat, and super helpful with my pretty much zero artistic ability. These are a go-to for girls' nights out, and I even got my boyfriend out and enjoying one! Update: I have been to Paint Nite's "Sunset over the sound" and Paint and Sip's "Morning Walk" painting sessions since my last review and have updated my review. Original review: I never painted since high school, but have always been interested to get creative and start painting again. I found a paint nite groupon ($25 instead of the regular $45) and wanted to give it a try. So, I signed up with a few of my friends for painting the "Space needle over the full moon" at Von's in Seattle downtown. Pros: - Super friendly artist. I loved working with Gregory. He sets the right mood for the session. - Step by step approach. Gregory literally explains every step of the painting and gives ample time to incorporate and improvise compared to other artists from other similar services. Cons: - While the ambiance at Von's was good, the lighting was bad. We were sometimes finding it hard to distinguish between similar colors. - Brush types: I found Paint and Sip to give us around 6 different brushes which helped us paint some interesting strokes and learn how to use different brushes. Paint Nite gives us only two brushes. read more

I never got to experience an actual class because my friends and I were put through a horrible experience by the owner, Gregory. First, he cancelled our initial class. He was initially very generous in offering to extend the expiration of our vouchers and gave us two extra comp tickets. I was pretty impressed up till this point, despite the inconvenience of the cancelled class. Then Gregory showed his true colors and how completely unprofessional and rude he is. He forgot that he had given us two extra tickets and out of no where, right before the event, we got the following email: "Hi Kathryn: I was nice enough to comp you 4 tickets, none of which I get compensated for, including my materials I am providing, and I noticed that you used your coupon code for five tickets, when I trusted that you would use four via the coupon code I gave you. I am extremely disappointed, and at this point, will require you to pay 25.00 dollars cash when you show up for your event for that additional ticket, and I deleted your coupon code. Not cool. When someone does a favor for you, it is in your best interests to follow the rules and be thankful that someone did you a favor. I didn't have to do that, simply because your coupon code expired. Extremely disappointed that you would take advantage. GC" I don't think I have to explain how upsetting it was to be accused of stealing and be talked to in this way when we had done nothing wrong. Once my friend forwarded Gregory his email where he had offered us the extra tickets, he did apologize eventually, but it was too late as far as I was concerned. He continued to be rude and insulting in follow up emails and there was no way I was going to do business with this man. I have never been treated so poorly and have been to other paint events through other companies that are legitimate and know how to treat their customers. Please, don't waste your time with this company and go to a different class that is put on by someone deserving of your business. read more

Last night was my first time attending a Paint Nite event, but I have attended similar "paint and drink" events. There are a few things that differentiate the two major painting event companies, and I will do my best to review Paint Nite in reference to the differences I noticed. Paint Nite mostly has events in the Seattle-Seattle South area, but my sister and I were lucky enough to go to an event last night in Lynnwood at the Old Spaghetti Factory. The painting, a vase and branches of snowberries, was beautiful and compared to other paintings we have done, was easy-ish to follow on your own. This is important to note, which I'll touch on later in my review. The room we painted in was at the back of the restaurant. There was plenty of lighting but most of it was dim. We selected a table that had a convenient view of the example painting up on an easel. The downside (or difference) with Paint Nite is their events do not include a first beverage. Not a big deal, but it is a difference. We did have one server assigned to our group but my sister and I went to the nearby bar to order our drinks. The event quickly and promptly started at 7:00pm and we got right into things. It was nice that our instructor had a headset so her voice was magnified in the room - made it helpful to hear her instructions. However, many of us felt she rushed through the "instruction" part of painting (paint blends, where to paint, etc) and because of this, it was easier to do it on our own. I had taken a picture of the example before the event started, which I frequently referenced through the night to make sure I was "following along". The instructor did walk around with her example as each step was completed, but I felt like I was floundering most of the time. Unlike the other event that I've attended (a painting event competitor), where the instruction was thorough and repeated multiple times, this event was "one and done". If you didn't hear it the first time, you had to do your best do figure it out. About half way through we stopped for 15 minutes to let our paintings dry before we added details. At this point it got a little bit easier, but I found it increasingly difficult to see my painting because of the dimly lit room and many of us pulled out our cell phones and used the flashlight. The teacher did have a photographer's umbrella light (not sure what it's called) for extra brightness, which was somewhat helpful. The rest of the night finished like it started - what felt like rushed instruction and then COPIOUS amounts of time for us to paint. I would have really liked if she had been more thorough with her instructions and repeated a couple of times. All in all I had a fun time and I like my painting, but based on the differences and why I liked the other event better, I'll probably do their events more likely in the future. Bonus points to Paint Nite, though, for having bigger canvases!! read more

I attended some classes and really enjoyed them. I ordered discount passes and signed up for future classes. I was then informed that the classes were cancelled. They have not offered any more classes in my area during the pass durations and they expired. When I complained they said they did have classes in my area and sent me a list of classes I could attend, all at least a 45 minute drive from my house. read more

Nine of us went ot the Ballard Annex Oyster restaurant and Greg Copploe was our instructor. Everyone had a fabulous time! Greg was very understanding when we changed our seating arrangements several times so that we could all try to see what each other was doing. He is a fabulous instructor. He has a great sense of humor, helps anyone, like me, who needed special assistance, and was very clear and knowledgeable about painting techniques. This was the first time for all of us and we will all definitely do this again. I must admit I am reluctant to try a different instructor as Greg made the experience so fun and non-intimidating. read more

He walks around the entire floor and gives each individual feedback on their artwork and even encourages you to go outside the box and paint whatever it is you desire! Awesome! It was so fun, and really a good thing for a special date night. We went to a session at Von's 1000 spirits; it was in a back room with room enough for about 40 (?) people or so. The host was very nice and the service at Vonn's was fantastic. You pay for the tix (try to get a Groupon!) and your own food and drink during the party. For 2 it was about $80 all in all with the Groupon, food and drinks. read more

After making the reservation the time of the Paint Nite event changed, the painting changed and then ultimately the event was canceled. The date we selected was the only time we could go since it was dependant on a family member. Very poor experience and this company did not seem sympathetic at all. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! My girlfriend has a very hectic schedule and found a particular night that would work, and the painting was perfect for us. There was only 1 ticket left though, so I reached out to the artist, who had the Paint Nite team provide me with e-mail instructions on how to purchase additional tickets for the event. You would think that they would be friendly to someone wanting to give them extra business, but no. The process to purchase an additional ticket was way too cumbersome and the instructions were confusing (process requires you to handle through e-mail, and the customer service agent was rude!). I finally got the second ticket. Unfortunately, my girlfriend had to fly out of town last minute, so we couldn't attend. Per their 48-hour policy, I was to notify them by Sunday 6:00pm to cancel or change my 6pm Tuesday session. I e-mailed them at 6:00am Monday (36-hours notice). They held firm to their 48-hour policy, even under my extenuating circumstance (even after complaining and asking to speak to a supervisor, which the agent wouldn't let me do). I doubt they would have reacted to my request before Monday morning anyway. I tried finding some friends to go in my place, but none could go that night. I just had to eat the cost of the tickets. I understand then not wanting people to abuse their cancellation policy, but they would not work with me whatsoever. It just so happened that the night of our winery tour, Ward Johnson Winery was hosting one of its weekly Paint Nite's. We thought it would be fun to give it a try and lucky for us there was still room to join! We spent the evening drinking wine and exploring our artistic side! This was such a memorable experience & we had so much fun! The instructor was so patient and took us step-by-step (which is crucial when you are a beginner like myself). I felt comfortable and it was just nice to spend the evening exploring my artistic side. I would definitely participate in another Paint Nite!! read more

This was really fun, my girlfriend absolutely loved it. Definitely a knock out of the park on date points. We already signed up for another class. You don't have to already be an artist. The paint instructor greg was great, a lot of fun. He did a great job keeping everyone engaged and on the right track. He gave a little extra help to the people that were unsure of what they were doing. The class size was small enough that everybody kept up and got a little personal instruction too. It's a decent quality mounted canvas that is provided with the price of admission. I think everybody left with a picture they were proud of. The restaurant was good, we had $14 burgers which were really great! We would definitely go there again just for drinks and dinner. Good selection of beers. read more

I purchased 2 Groupons for a Paint Nite I attended at Metropole in downtown Seattle. Our artist was Ian and he was fantastic! It's a little intimidating at first, looking at this artwork you're about to paint thinking, "I have never done anything like this before!" but they break it down for you so that it's fairly easy. After each step was explained to the group, Ian took time to check each person's progress and give constructive criticism, which he did in a very polite, positive way. Because everyone got individualized attention, there is some down time-- drink up! I would definitely recommend Paint Nite to my friends who enjoy being creative. The value (with the $25 Groupon) is awesome, in my opinion. It was a very fun, positive experience, and I will be back! read more

I attended the paintnite event yesterday, June 12th, at The Quarters. I had several issues with the event: 1. No bathrooms. 2. There was no give away as discussed in this email. 3. No bar. They only had 3 mixed drinks and 2 white wines to choose from at 7 dollars a cup. 4. The drinks were served in the same cups you get when flying. Very small. My 4oz of diet coke was 2 dollars while any cheap alcohol was 7 dollars a cup. 5. The seating area was very cramped. We had to shuffle and move out of seats for others to get in and out. 6. The instructor went very fast. I was in a group of about 8 ladies, and others that have done these events before said she went faster than any other event they have done. 7. At first the waitress said they could only take cash, but at the end had found a card reader. Would have been nice to know since we had all ordered drinks based on limited cash. I reached out to PaintNite with this exact list and they said they were sorry and hope I try it again. The apologized for the venue issues and said it was not typical and would pass on the information. They didn't even address that they stated in their email "Because of these circumstances beyond our control we will be awarding 10 free PaintNite events at your event." I would not do this again with this company or instructor or venue. read more

I did a Canvas Paint & Sip class a few weeks ago and loved it so I signed up for a Paint Nite. Unfortunately, my experience with Paint Nite was very negative. Our instructor, Emily, was a nice person, but she wasn't a great teacher. I do think this was partially due to the poor setup of the room in Canyons Restaurant. it was an "L" shaped room so there was no good place for Emily to stand for everyone to be able to see. In this situation, she maybe could have spent a little extra time showing everyone the steps, but instead, everything she did was rushed and confusing. When we asked her questions, she acted like we were such a burden and would spend maybe 20 seconds with us before rushing off. I feel like she spent most of her time making jokes about being on acid and singing into the microphone rather than being an instructor. Don't get me wrong, I was there for a fun night too, but it turned out to be totally disappointing. Like I said, I've done a canvas paint night before and had a great overall experience, so I don't think I had unrealistic expectations, I just think this was a poor setup (room, lighting, instructor, etc) and didn't set everyone up for success. read more

This was the second time I painted with Paint Nite. 11/23/16 This time was not pleasing and it in the sense of the time painting. That was fine -location was Mill Creek Lombardis. The email reminder had a link for directions and apparently took me to the wrong location in a Everett. I thought for a moment it was wrong but I figured I was wrong and the email was correct. Got to the Everett location and was told no painting and they were nice to call Mill creek to confirm. So I drove to the other location. Place was nice but way too many people and no room really to move around and if you need to get out of your seat you had to apologize because it was such a tight seating arrangement. Teacher was fine and the people were fun. Last issue- My night was never posted online and I emailed the teacher and the business themselves since December and each of them pointing fingers and whoever. So I wasted gas on driving to the wrong location due to their email and now have no pictures.( minus the painting, which I'm not talking about) Awesome... No follow through and it compensation. I have been to several Paint Nite events, and I must say that the experience is one worth having! You don't need to have any experience to enjoy creating a masterpiece. Our instructor Greg was so positive and encouraging, always made me feel like I was doing well (even in the midst of major self doubt) and in a class of 30, I never once felt like I was being ignored or left out. He was very personable and pleasant. If you need something to do to kill 2 hours, I would highly recommend this. Take the time and try it out. The cost is not overwhelming and you get to take your project with you! It can be difficult to find parking, so get there early and enjoy a drink, an appetizer or have dinner first! read more

We hired Gregory for our company party and it was a great success! He was extremely helpful throughout the planning as well as the event. He helped us find a location that would accommodate the painting as well as a full dinner afterward. He showed up early to set up and was outgoing and fun throughout the event. very difficult booking and getting a date with them. i went to their website, bought 3 tickets for a date one month out. a friend's event! then 3 days prior to the event, i got an email saying the venue changed. not the date. just the location. so we showed up to the new location and when we got there, we were not on the list (mind you, i was charged for it). they had no record of us and we were sent away. emailed them the next day (the host said you have to email info@paintnite.com and there was "nothing" he could do). they said they'd give our money back and give us a credit for 3 free tickets as well. as of yet, they did refund us but never followed through with the free vouchers. very unorganized. read more
