It's been years since I last visited YD. Like previous visits, I thought it was good but nothing outstanding. I ordered the following most recently: Veggie Tofu Soup (T5. Yaechae Soon Du Bu, Galbi (B1), Dolsot Bibimbap (Y2). What's most impressive about YD is their banchan (side dish) selection and taste/quality. They have over 15! Based off the items ordered, I'd give them a 3, but their side dishes increase their rating for me. The tofu soup was super watery, even at a medium spice. I was also very underwhelmed that the only veggies in there were zucchini and cabbage. Bibimbap was average, didn't dislike it but nothing about it stood out. Galbi was for sure the best item, but also not a complicated dish and hard to get wrong; this is the only item I'd reorder. Service was fine/helpful, but a bit inattentive, especially given the number of tables they had at the time. It's a large restaurant packed with many tables, a bit dimly lit without much natural light coming in. There's a small lot in front for multiple businesses. read more

Came here for a quick dinner while I was on the phone taking care of something. We let the server know that our dog is a service animal, but she continued insisting that we provide documentation. Under the ADA, businesses generally cannot require documentation, certification, a license, or a special vest for a service animal. When the need for the service animal isn't obvious, staff may ask whether the dog is required because of a disability and what work or task the dog has been trained to perform. What really made us decide to leave was how the situation was handled. I was in the middle of a phone call, but the server kept interrupting and insisting on documentation to the point where I had to end my call just to deal with it. We came in hoping for a quick, simple dinner, but instead felt uncomfortable and decided to leave without dining. I understand restaurants need to follow their policies, but staff should also be properly trained on ADA service animal requirements and handle situations like this appropriately. read more

I've been here multiple times around lunch time with family & different size groups and each time has been a treat. The staff are great and they have an excellent variety of side dishes for sharing. I can't speak for weekends but this place is usually quiet on the weekdays. We like the bulgogi, the sole fish, the Naengmyeon pajun, so many delicious dishes. During summer time I especially look forward to their mul naengmyeon! Honestly, they serve the best mul naengmyeon I've had so far - this is compared to a spot in Ktown LA, which is also well known for their naengmyeon. Highly recommend YD TOFU HOUSE!! I love Korean food and been wanting to try this place. Went with my sister. We ordered the grilled mackerel and the cornish hen soup with ginseng and sweet rice. They serve a lot of banchan. All so good. We didn't wait long for the food. My sister and I really liked the grilled mackerel. Just the right amount of salt. I've had the ginseng soup before from another place and they have more ginseng. Their ginseng soup doesn't have a lot of ginseng and you can barely taste it. The soup is also lacking in flavor. When I found out YD Tofu House serves galbi jjim, I had to check it out. Parking is limited. There is a parking lot, but it was full upon arrival. Luckily, there was a vehicle leaving. Otherwise, we would had to find street parking and walk to the restaurant. The servers were affable and welcoming. I love the vast variety of the banchan dishes. The seafood tofu soup was just okay. There was not much seafood in the soup. Will not order this in the future. The fried chicken was just okay as well as it was not well seasoned. Will not order this in the future as well. I absolutely love and enjoyed the spicy galbi jjim. The beef ribs were very tender and flavorful. I love the melted cheese. It also had walnuts, red dates, radish, and rice cakes. I been here since college days back in 2016-18time, yes, they increased the price a lot, but their quality and portion is really good and legit. They have been known for their banchon, and you can ask for refill! Soup, meat, everyone taste pretty good, but personal opinion, I do not like their fried chicken. I love their regular dishes and soup, very tasty, I been here no less than 10 time, I still like to come back. They are pretty spacious, since the building is old, but at least they are pretty clean. We ordered the Galbi Jjimi for two people and overall, it was good. I personally would have preferred it a little spicier, and I was expecting smaller pieces of meat, but I didn't mind that they were larger. They provided plenty of delicious side dishes, which was great. The parking lot is a bit limited, but we arrived early so it wasn't as busy as it usually is. The ambiance was pleasant since it was quiet at the time, it made for a calm dining experience. However, the service could use some improvement. Our server only checked on us once and didn't return afterward, so we had to get up to ask for the check and a to-go container. My husband and I love the original location but came to try out this one for dinner as it is a little closer to home. We found the service to be very attentive. The evening was chilly and our server asked us if we would like hot tea which was much appreciated. We got the bibimbap, soondubu (tofu stew) and gogi mandu (steamed meat dumplings) our ban chan came out very quickly after. I found the cucumber kimchi to be super yummy and immediately asked for a refill and our server piled it up! We were not impressed by the bibimbap as we did not realize it was ground beef and didn't find the flavor to be anything special. The soondubu was solid but I've had better. The gogi mandu was perfectly steamed and we loved the thin wrapper but the greens it sat on top off stuck to the bottom of the dumplings and we found that part inedible. It was hard for me to rate this place because I really enjoy their banchan-style dishes and have never been disappointed with the quality of the food. However, the service has been quite slow on the times I've visited. I ordered the galbi short ribs and beef bulgogi--both were flavorful and well-seasoned. The japchae was cooked just the way I like it, and all the side dishes were great. While visiting from the Bay I was recommended this little Korean restaurant by a local, and it did not disappoint! We came at around 5:30-6pm on a Tuesday and were one of four groups. For appetizers I usually get the seafood pancake, so I ordered one of those to share in addition to my cheese soondubu and my companion's kalbi. My eyes nearly popped out of my head when the pancake came out; it was like a foot in diameter and PACKED with squid and other goodies. The consistency was crisp yet fluffy. There were also about 12 different banchan, so something for everyone's tastes. The kalbi came out sizzling and was well seasoned. i enjoyed my tofu soup (medium spicy!) a lot, and the waitress was kind enough to crack the egg in for me. If I had to nitpick, the beef in my soup was a bit tough, but the flavor was excellent overall. Service was great! They even chill the little glasses for makgeolli for you. There are many items to choose from on the menu but it's hard to beat the galbi. As soon as you order the banchan comes out and shortly after your food is in front of you! YD Tofu House my beloved. The number of banchan dishes alone makes me giddy. The portion sizes are great. The food is no frills but filling and done well. There are a number of dishes that are also large and meant to be shared family-style. Personally, I have had the bibimbap, the soft tofu soup (sundubu jjigae), and the seafood pancake (haemul-pajeon). The dishes in stone bowls come out appropriately searingly hot and sizzly; the tofu soup was still bubbling, perfect for cracking the included raw egg into. I liked the seafood pancake, but it's even better after chucking it in the airfryer to crisp up. All were very satisfying and I always have leftovers. The ambiance is roomy and very casual. There's enough space for a large group. The service is prompt and breathable, nothing crazy--as expected for a place like this. The OG Korean spot. They have the best seafood pancake and the sauce/jalapeño served with it is UNMATCHED. Main dishes were great but service was lacking. Once they sit you down, they don't check on you. The guy who served us wasn't very polite, which is tolerable, but he took our order and never came around again, other than to bring out the food. The banchan took about 20 minutes to come out, and when it did I was surprised to find they served us spoiled bean sprouts. The bean sprouts have always been my favorite out of the banchan and I was extremely disappointed. We had lunch here to celebrate a friend's birthday yesterday. This is my second time at this location, as parking is really limited and tight I rarely come here. We ordered a few mains to share amongst our group. They brought us water bit no cups and we waited. Even after several orders came out, still no cups. The banchan was great many different ones available. The food was just okay nothing to write home about, seemed like basic flavors. I had my baby in the high chair between myself and my wife and the server brought the hot plate of bibimbop in between the baby and I, I was so shocked as the baby could have just reached out and touched the searing hot plate. Servers need to recognize the seating situations and deliver food to the side that is safer. I was definitely not happy and my average 3 became a 2 due to this. I'm long overdue on trying YD House, I like the RC location and they are known for serving lots of banchan with your meal. Our server was very busy, she had a party of eight in the back and maybe five tables inside. It wasn't until we were leaving, when more employees arrived. So service could've been better. I had the Dolsot BBB, it was beautifully presented but skimpy on the meat. I mean skimpy bc you couldn't really taste any. My husband's food took forever, I had almost eaten half my dish and we had to flag our server to see if maybe they forgot? I hate flagging servers but she wasn't coming around so we had no idea what was happening? When the bulgogi finally did come out, it was tasty. So it was a great save! I've been coming here for the past decade, and the food has always been at least "pretty good" but with several excellent dishes. (The soups are the stars here, folks!) However, when it came to ordering, getting more sides, more water, or even the check, it took some effort to flag the waiters/waitresses down. That said, they were very polite and friendly. Ambience (4/5): Comfortable and spacious inside. Definitely felt clean and homey. Location (3/5): Parking can be a little tight considering it's on a little corner strip mall. Had to park in another lot and walk over. Food (3/5): My review is weighted solely on the food. The entrees didn't have much taste. We ordered the Dolsot Bibimbob & the Kimchi Dolsot Bibimbob and they were nicely presented. However, as with the last time we ate here, the Bibimbops (along with some other things that we ordered last time) were kind of lacking any flavor. The Galbi was tasty yet chewy. Maybe because there are so many delicious Korean restaurants in Santa Clara, I'm a little biased when it comes to Sacramento-area Korean restaurants. I'll begin by saying service has never really been a strong suit for the waiters and waitress of all the times I've been here. With that said, we came here last night to celebrate my wife's birthday. 4 adults and a 2 year old who only eats the things we bring or fries if it's on the menu. I'm not sure what's wrong with the waiter, maybe a bad day or woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but he just straight up not welcoming, unprofessional, and perhaps a lack of common sense. He proceeds to come over to our table to take our order, my wife and kid just arrived, so we asked for a few minutes. Would be nice if you say "Hi, how's everyone doing, are you ready to order or need a few more minutes?" Instead just ask are you ready to order. Which is okay. After deciding on what to order and the waiter came for a second time, again "are you ready to order". Why yes I am. I begin to order, I've noticed he's not writing it down or entering it into some sort of tablet. Ok great, you have a photographic memory. But the issue I have here is, he kept asking what I wanted to ordered and having myself repeat every item. Perhaps it's a good idea to write it down on a notepad. I ordered two seafood tofu soup both mild, an order of bulgogi, an order of the teriyaki chicken, and an order of the grilled sole fish. Side dish took about 20-25mins to come out. Soup came out in about 15 mins. The teriyaki chicken came out in about 15mins. The bulgogi took 20 mins. The grilled sole took about 40mins or longer as if it was forgotten. Overall the food taste great. Here's something really strange. When we usually ask for additional sides like kimchi or the fish cake. They would just go get it. Except this specific waiter wanted the plate that contains the kimchi and fish cake. We were like uh there's still food on it? Why can't you just bring out a new plate with the requested side? Is this a new procedure? Trying to reduce the number of plates they're washing? Whatever it is, definitely inconvenient and unprofessional in my opinion. He kept asking for the empty plates that were underneath other side dish plates with food on it. Any empty dish we were done, we would put it on the side of the table for the waiter pick up. However for this guy, it's like he's looking for plates and telling us what to do or hand to him while we're eating. Other than bringing our food. He did not checkup on us once. Never asked how everything is or if we needed more water, side dish, the usual etc. Lastly, remember when I mentioned 4 adults and a 2 year old that doesn't eat restaurant food unless it's fries or pancakes. Well when I went to pay our bill. I've noticed 18% gratuity already added. I was like wait for 4 adults? So this waiter counted my 2 year old as an adult. She didn't even eat and was coloring the entire time lmao. So I looked at the menu and I notice party of 5 gratuity is added. Even for a party of 5 that is wild to automatically add gratuity. Usually it's 6 or more. So don't be surprised if you come in as a party of 5. I'm done ranting. Service needs tremendous improvement. You can checkout my receipt. Food is great. We thought the spicy pork was good, but thought it would be more of a stir-fry over dry noodles versus soupy. The pork and noodles still had good flavor but the broth watered it down a little. Came in on a Friday night and it was pretty busy. Only ordered two things, seafood tofu soup and jap chae. Saw staff waiting for the soup to be finished before bringing out the japchae, but by the time we got it, it was no longer hot and just room temperature. That was a little disappointing. I saw it just sitting in the window for the longest time. Besides it getting cold, it was really bland. It just tasted like sesame oil mixed in the with noodles. Not a fan of it at all. YD is always a reliable Korean restaurant. My friends and I got the Kimchi pancake, Teokkbokki, Galbi, Galbi jjim, and Dwaeji (pork) galbi. I love the Dwaeji galbi, I think you can hardly go wrong with it. All the food is pretty solid although the Galbi jjim was not my favorite, but that might just be a personal preference.
