I'm not entirely sure what I paid for. I asked for a manicure with clear coat, and I left with scuffed up nails with a thin clear coat on top and half of the hangnails I came in with. I honestly think my nails looked better when I walked in. I'm certainly not expecting miracles, but I'd like my nail fully covered with polish and my hangnails cleaned up more thoroughly. Maria does an amazing job! I've been going to see Maria for shellac manicures for the last several years and I've always had very positive experiences. Maria pays a lot of attention to detail and makes sure her work is done right and my nails always look great! Whether I want French tips or only have a color idea in mind, Maria works with me to make sure I walk away a happy customer. In addition, Maria asks about my life and adds a personal touch by remembering details we've previously talked about. I was amazed the second time I went to see her and she had not only remembered me, but the fact I recently moved to the neighborhood! I'm definitely a loyal customer (and surprised I haven't written this review already!) I recommend calling ahead before you go in since it's a smaller shop and they stay busy. I love this place! Maria has been a Magnolia business owner for a very long time. She totally knows what she's doing with nails, and is very sweet and community oriented. As for covid precautions, she takes your temperature when you enter, and can only take 2 customers at a time (she's currently the only nail technician on duty). This is by far my favorite nail salon I've been to! I moved here 6 months ago and have been coming back every 2 weeks for gel manicures. Maria has knocked it out of the park every time and she is sincerely one of the nicest people I've met, I truly enjoy my time there. This is the first time I've been to this salon. I initially asked to get a manicure and pedicure. I have psoriasis and came in wearing a sundress exposing my legs which also have psoriasis patches. After getting my manicure, I had asked for a eyebrow and lip wax. After waiting to be ready for my eyebrow and lip wax, I believe her name was Maria, brought me to the back and said, "I hope you won't get mad, but I can only do a color change because of your legs. I think that my customers will see you in the water and won't want to use that chair." I told her, "I've never had a problem before (which I haven't) and she said, "But, my customers won't like it." I guess I'm not a customer . I left immediately afterwards. I would have thought that an establishment that has been around for so long would know about psoriasis. Previously Lyly Nails, I've been coming to Sonny, Maria & Mae for years so I can tell you in confidence that your polish will stay on forever.. like running on the beach, kicking in the sand, (looking down) nope, the polish does not come off! The process of having your nails done here will last forever too because their massages last soo long, but who can complain about that? Also, I've found its kind of hard to get creative because of the language barrier in most salons, but these guys work really hard to perfect the look you want and have a knack for remembering preferences. When you walk inside their new studio, it is like entering into their home. It's clean and welcoming. I never see this husband/wife/mother team without a smile. Finally, the price is right. You can get a manicure for $12, a color change for $6, and a full mani-pedi for $32 (this includes their super heavenly massages). Shellac starts at $25 and up, but I've never needed it here. read more

I'm posting this in the hope that they read my feedback and use it to improve the pedicures provided by a particular employee. If you get Maria or the older woman, you will have an AMAZING experience at Sonny and Maria's. Unfortunately, the last 2 times I have been to the salon, I got the other gal - the young woman with the adorable baby - and left with my big toe(s) bleeding. Sadly, it's not worth the risk of returning and being assigned that same gal again. Sonny & Maria's really is the best place to get your nails done in Magnolia. The price is right, Maria always remembers me, and my nails turn out looking amazing every time. Their shellac selection is growing, too! Customer service is also top-notch. About a year ago, my pink shellac started turning *gasp* yellow. It was horrific. I went to the salon to see if they could fix it (I had it done there), and they took care of it free of charge. Another poster mentioned that Maria is a perfectionist -- this is true. And if you visit any of the other salons in Magnolia, you'll find that this Sonny & Maria's way outshines the rest. read more

i have had a pedicure and a manicure here, one today, one about a week ago. The older lady (not Maria) has done both, although Maria added my nail art after the main job today. As some have noted, the lady who is not Maria is a bit rough with the scissors, but she did not hurt or cut me- just a little minor discomfort/ concern that I might be cut after reading reviews. The foot massage is long, the polish is very well done, but not totally perfect at the cuticle area, and customer service is good. Prices are reasonable too. read more

I like this place, it isn't far from my house and they are quite friendly and reasonable. I only knock off one star because there is only one person who does shellac most of the time and you can end up waiting awhile if more than one person wants it. I booked a shellac mani pedi and all in all I spent 2 hours. I have previously bought my young daughter though and they are friendly and very sweet and patient with her. read more

This hard working family that keeps their shop open seven days a week and are always pleasant and upbeat in spite of the long hours and seven consistent working days. Marie is friendly sweet and is a perfectionist who does a perfect job in keeping my toes and nails looking beautiful. Marie's mother who does not speak as fluent English as rest of the crew is also lovely, caring and has always done a great job for me. Maria took good care of me when I needed a last minute bikini wax. They didn't even do them... they were not on the price sheet, but I was desperate! Excellent customer service and demeanor. She didn't know what to charge and so the price was a little steep, but I was happy to pay her for accommodating me so close to closing, with a service they don't normally provide. I really wanted to love this place. It's near my new home and had 5 stars so I thought I hit the jackpot with such great prices. Came here on the weekend around 6pm with my own polish for a mani. I love getting my nails done since it's relaxing and me time. I am also in the process of moving so I was really looking forward to it. The pros are great parking, and only $12 for a mani. Back in San Francisco you can't even get a polish change for that price. When I got the nail saloon the owner was complaining to the other customer about some bill she got. This went on and on for the next hour. Sure we all have problems and bills but I don't want to hear about your drama, especially for an hour. Perhaps the other customer was a regular and often gives the owner billing advise, but I wasn't happy to be part of the loud conversation. The girl who did my nails didn't even ask my name, not a word really. I don't care if they want to talk or not but a little friendly chit chat is nice. The mani was good, the polish looked good and the massage was good. The bad part was I got cut. The worse cut I've ever gotten on my cuticle. It screamed out when it happen and I think she said sorry. With every coat of polish it stung and 3 days later it is still red and sore. On top of getting hurt the other girl started vacuuming the place at 6:45. The place closes at 8pm and I guess it was slow and she wanted to go home early. I wasn't very happy to have the vacuum going around me and hearing that and the other girl complaining. Relaxing it wasn't :( I brought my own color that I love and never see at nail saloons. It's kind of test to see if they make sure I get it back or if I have to ask for it. Well at the end of the main I went to the dry station and the girl who did my nails brought my clutch but not my nail polish. I had to go get it off her table when I left (she didn't notice) and when I walked out she didn't remind me or try to ensure I didn't leave without it. (it's the little things that matter). In the end my nails looked good, other than the one that is cute and red. It wasn't a relaxing event but perhaps I will try again. Might first try the other nail salons in the area since there are 4 others within blocks of this place. read more

Can't help but give Sunny & Maria a FIVE STAR rating! I have been going here for 7 years now for pedicures along with the occasional manicure and simply adore this couple. They are kind, and give perfect pedis, and will always do their best to fit me in. They once stayed open an extra hour just for me! Maria's mom gives the best pedicures, I might add. Her foot massages are the best! They keep a great selection of trendy and classic colors both OPI and China Glaze polish. They do an ok job, but not great. It took over 2 hrs for a mani/pedi because they had me pay before my nail were dry. So I had to have them redo the polish because they were all smudged. When I got home and looked closer there was nail polish all over my toes and they just don't look amazing. It's right down the street and I really wanted to like this place so I could somewhere close to home, plus the prices are great. I think I'll travel farther and pay more to get a better finish.
