I've been here 3 times and have made Holly my regular hair stylist. She is very friendly and easy to talk to. The wait is never too long. I go in for just a basic haircut and trim. Price is fair, and affordable compared to big salons. I like the small atmosphere. There is free onsite parking though the lot is tight. There is also free and easy street parking. Holly to have taken my hair and destroyed it less then a year ago and to have not only done that but the hair my Beautiful 14year old who donated her hair to locks of love for cancer...shame really. First your colored my hair a take chance color from a natural blonde to a black. I just wanted a change it was ok but a shock..In doing this looking for change but then to for body and volume suggest a perm?!? I was ok maybe that's for me some volume. You used small rods not a good choice the out come was a frizzy fro...I was in shock!!! I would have thought a wave as I had asked for. This has been hard the past 6 months of dealing with color I don't care for but now an added damage of frizz and breakage. Poor Miia my daughter she was able to give her untouched virgin hair to locks of love to cancer but the fact you did not shape of style her hair. Holly you need to STOP you are not a stylist and not to even not want to sit down and resolve this shows you do not listen to the client. I will be posting this on Next Door Magnolia(everywhere and word of mouth) . I have lived in this community 21yrs and would have been content to sit down and try to problem solve this. You have destroyed my hair and yes it takes time but it would have been unnecessary time if you would have listened to me . As for my daughter its taking time. Very disappointed in my gel manicure here. Very sloppy, only two coats done so the color doesn't even look even. There's dried clear nail polish all over my finger nails, and the nail technician cut my finger and it bled the whole time! They even told me to make sure I put antibiotics on to make sure it doesn't infect. And they had me put my bloody finger in the UV machine, which is very unsanitary. I have frequented Universal Salon for 9 years. Unfortunately, my son's hair was cut by an assistant so high on one side above his ear that it looks absolutely ridiculous. I realize that mistakes happen but instead of saying, "sorry" the woman told me that, "no hair grow there." Are you kidding me?! His hair grew just fine in that spot before she cut it. Of course, no accountability for her mistake was taken and I was charged full price for the haircut. Less than a week later, I decide to get my nails done and made an appointment for a pedicure. I showed up five minutes before my scheduled pedicure and they did not have the appointment on the books. Never again! read more

This is a great casual nail salon in Magnolia. I am not a person who religiously gets manis & pedis but I have gone to enough place and feel this place is a winner! The decor is super fun, the women who work there are friendly, and the prices are very affordable. My friend and I went in without an appointment early on a Saturday morning. We had to share a person but she was very accommodating by letting us sit together even when one of us was waiting our turn with her. I have gone to other salons and felt that I could do a better job painting my nails than they do at the salon...this was not the case at Universal Salon. They did an amazing job and I was actually shocked at how inexpensive it was for a mani/pedi combo (I think it was only $35...I had expected to pay $40 or more) Also I hadn't been there in probably a couple years but one of the girls actually remembered that I had been there before. It was the icing on the cake of my recent experience there. Next time I go for a mani and pedi....I will definitely be going back to Universal Salon. read more

The place appeared nice and clean, and the staff seemed friendly as they offered me a cup of hot tea while I waited. That was the only great part of my visit. Rose did my manicure and cut me on 4 different fingers! I don't know what the hell she was trying to do ?!? It hurts right now just to type this review from the deep cuts that made me bleed! She said it was because my skin was dry! As if it's my fault that SHE cut me. I will never go back to this establishment and plan on contacting the owner for a full refund. Who even knows if Rose has her license ?? How can you call yourself a nail technician and cut someone this bad?!?! read more

It passes the five star test- I'll always plan my next visit back before I leave the place. This is what I like: -Tiki hut decorations, including indoor grass roof -Pressed tin wall decor, slate floors -Ultra clean environment- They keep all files, etc in a little box with each client's name on it. They must have had 200 little boxes lined up on the wall. That way, no one else's files are getting on my nails and feet. This is a cool idea they've had: It's a gross thought- someone else's dead skin cells from their feet touching your feet?! Unbearable. -New, really clean massage chairs -Friendly staff -The Mani/ Pedi was second to none. In fact- one of my nails she redid three times because it was not smooth enough for her. I was fine with it, but the manicurist just wanted smoother. I was like- it's going to chip in a few days anyway, but she seemed kind of OCD. Sandy is the best. I tried many other nail salons before Universal Salon. Sandy did the best job with clean, detailed French manicures. I no longer get French manicures, but have continued to come to Sandy for my nails for almost 10 years now. She is friendly, does great work, and is good to her customers. I drive out of my way to go to Universal. I really only get my hair and nails done once a year, but the entire staff always remembers me and they even remember what color I got my nails done last time/what hairstyle I asked for. I just went in yesterday and my hairdresser even helped me figure out ways to blow dry my blunt bangs so I could style them differently if need be. The prices are affordable, everyone is super talented, and their customer service and friendliness is truly gold. I'll never go anywhere else. read more

This is the first place I've gotten a shellac manicure done where they actually paint to the cuticles so it doesn't look grown out after a day! Hooray! And the massage chairs for pedicures are the best I've ever sat in. It's not the fanciest place, but at least they aren't trying to over sell pedicure packages with all the extra treatments. Randomly came across Universal Salon when I desperately needed a pedicure and happened to be in Magnolia. I had no idea what to expect and was so pleasantly surprised. Sandy did an awesome job. I had picked out a kind of boring OPI pink and she suggested a much more exciting and flattering color from another line. I love it and can't stop looking at my toes! The pedicure was thorough and relaxing and I never felt rushed, which I often do when getting a pedi. I don't live on magnolia but I plan on making this my go to spot! read more
