Spartan Brothers is a better place to get freshly cut cheeses and meats, and deli salads, than it is to get groceries it seems. Actual groceries are pretty limited. There's a few cool other things. Convenience is the best thing about it. It's pretty basic looking inside, with a counter full of cheeses and meats. There's also a lot of ION chocolate bars, which aren't easy to find at other stores. As for the rest of the store, the shelves have the actual groceries. One interesting thing is the tank of olive oil. Get however much of it you want and fill a container. The groceries include pantry staples like pasta. Has some reasons to come here. It's located on Harlem Avenue at Touhy. The place is known for having cheeses and meats, but there's some things okay for vegetarians.

They gave me a free cooler with ice pack to take the lobsters. They charge $10.99 per lb for 2lbs and under so I always get between 1.75 to 2 lb lobsters. It's the perfect tail size to overall weight ratio to me. I've gone to a handful of places in Chinatown since moving to Pilsen almost 4 years ago. This is my third time coming here and it's honestly the best on quality. The great price is secondary when dealing with live seafood. Quality is the most important and Chicago Food Market delivers. They are cash only, so keep that in mind and it's honestly the only negative about this place.

On my way to Assi (a Korean grocery), I saw the Zander Import Groceries sign with the curious winged lion. "Another time," I thought. But, it ate at me while I was shopping at Assi. So, I read a few Yelp reviews in the parking lot and decided to endure the six o'clock traffic on Milwaukee Ave and drive back there. The reviews said bread and pickles, try the bread and pickles. That was the mission. I believe it not chance that Zander was grinding fresh Turkish Coffee beans for another customer as I walked in. The smell was inviting and immediately perked me up. Now I know I'll come back when I have coffee drinking guests to entertain. There are plenty of good Indian, Pakistani, and Persian stores within a few miles of Zander Import Groceries, but Zander earns his relevance due to certain specific Assyrian goods he offers. The breads are acquired from bakeries in Skokie and Chicago, and the quality is good. The lavash was particularly nice, but the heavily floured crust left me wanting some of that coffee to wash it down. The Assyrian bread had a great bite and reminded me of a doughnut without sugar. (Does that make sense?) A kind gentleman patron directed me to a spicy homemade pickle of cabbage, carrot, and spices. I must say, it was delicious and I hope my husband loves it as much as I do. Zander also had some imported pickles and olives which looked fascinating. There were other staples, too, as you can see from my photos. This shop is definitely needed and earns its place with some unique offerings. First, I explored the endless snack aisles and selected a bag of chocolate-hazelnut biscuits to take home. I couldn't resist the gelato and tried the pistachio flavor (yum!) On my next visit to Eataly a couple of days later, I ordered a cappuccino, and while my beverage took a long time to prepare, the espresso tasted very high quality. The pastries looked stunning and decadent, and I imagine they'd pair wonderfully with espresso if you have time to linger at the cafe (I was in a hurry to get to a work meeting). The next day, my team and I visited Eataly's restaurant for lunch. I selected the anchovy toast as my starter and the gnocchi for my main as part of the lunch special. The toast consisted of two slices of sourdough bread topped with creamy lemon spread and anchovies. The contrast of the bright lemon flavor with the ultra-salty anchovies was tempered by the creamy butter - these all paired together quite well. The gnocchi, on the other hand, was underwhelming. The gnocchi was much too soft (it had the texture of mashed potatoes), and the red sauce was bland. All in all, visiting Eataly was a cool way to experience gourmet Italian food.

Curated drink from Caffe Lavazza - this was a dixie cup portion of a blended Frappuccino 4. house made pastry - they gave you the option of literal bite sized dessert, not a whole pastry 5. the artisanal salumi and formaggi - pathetic, literally 1 piece of meat, three pieces of the same type of cheeses, three olives, and dry stale crackers. Honestly for what they offer this was a slap in the face and from a consumer perspective Eataly's attempt at a summer money making scheme. I would find it hard to believe anyone who rave about this event, in fact I imagine most left very underwhelmed and still hungry. Eataly itself might be a great experience but we did not have the opportunity. We enjoyed the spritz drinks we ordered for their $9 summer special but this event did not make me want to return at all. It unfortunately dangled everything they could have offered in front of us, but then gave us the lowest tier. Driving in traffic to do this was not worth the time, gas, parking or inconvenience and the best part of our city night was when we stepped out of Eataly.

My wife and I were seated immediately. The server quickly brought us water and garlic bread. I really like that they give you 5 fairly big pieces of garlic bread for only two people. Nice touch. We were not in a hurry and couldn't decide what we wanted so we started with the calamari salad. $29, but it's huge and chock full of those calamari guys. Lettuce is always crisp and has everything I like in it (olives, eggs, carrots, artichoke, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and romaine lettuce). We were almost full just from the salad alone. I ordered a grouper sandwich (not fried), and my lovely wife ordered the Scottish salmon plate, which comes with potatoes and grilled vegetables. My sandwich came with coleslaw and fresh cut fries. They switched to fresh cut since my last visit, and this was an upgrade. My sandwich was great, and huge too. Could not finish it. Wife's meal was a humongous slab of salmon. The veggies now come on a smaller plate, but that's okay, given the size of the fish. Service was a tad slow, but like I said, we weren't in any hurry. Total tab was $100, with tax and that pesky 3% service fee. I really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. It's not a place I can go every week, but when I can splurge, and have a taste for fresh seafood, this is the best around.
