Fantastic place to get Irish imports - I am most often here for the Cadbury chocolate!

Winston's market is our "go to" market when we am entertaining. We love their rib eye steaks and NY strips. I always call ahead and I tell him how thick I want the steaks and they are ready when I arrive. The double bake potatoes are incredible and we never leave the store without grabbing a couple loaves of their Irish soda bread. It takes almost like pound cake. What a cool place! They have delicious hand pies, bangers, and a bunch of stuff you'd see in shops in Ireland here. Packaged goods, breads, and a full service deli counter. OK, I love a good sandwich. This place knows how to make a good sandwich. Anything you order we've had the Reuben, the pastrami, the turkey panini, the Italian sub, all served with your choice of coleslaw or potato salad, and a nice size pickle. All for a great price. Have always liked Winston's Market - a little Irish grocery store and deli right next to The Ashford House restaurant. These twin Irish places are a nice little throwback. The grocery/deli sells many Irish delicacies - like Irish sausage and bacon, corned beef, black & white pudding, and a whole variety of imported canned food. (All of these are also available next door in the restaurant.) Nice expansive deli counter that rivals what you see at a Jewel; they have an extensive sandwich menu. I loved this place and never knew it existed! I was back in town with my family and we drove to our old neighborhood and my parents pulled into this place to get some authentic Irish soda bread and some cookies. I studied abroad in Ireland in college and this place, while maybe not authentic in it's looks, was certainly authentic in the brands and items that it carried. It was a small shop but I could've perused the isle for an hour. I wanted to get so much more than I ended up getting but all that I did get, with the exception of a certain black current juice, was delicious! A huge decline in quality and customer service. Winston's has been a part of my life for 60 years, with fond memories of an ocasssional Sunday morning fry-up for our Irish family. The sausages and black pudding were always from Winston's and always delicious. I recently went to Winston's for sausages, black pudding and a few other treats. I bought five items and had four problems, all of which I found after leaving the store so I didn't have a chance for correction on the spot. First, a $2 bag of chips was rung up as a $5 box of tea. Mistakes are made and I would not complain about that alone. Second, I purchased three frozen packages labeled "beef bangers". None of the packages were cased: I made Irish sausage patties. While not a tragedy, it's not what I wanted or likely would have bought. Third, the bulk sausage was nearly-inedibly salted, quite likely doubled. I needed to add two pounds of meat to the remaining two pounds of bulk sausage, and then guess on adding spices. The resulting mix was still salty, passed as breakfast sausage patties, but did not taste like Irish sausage. Fourth, the casing on the black pudding had exploded so that I had to mush together "slices". It didn't affect the taste, but it didn't look appetizing on the plate. Any one of these would not have generated a complaint, but I thought Winston's would want to know of the multiple quality issues. So I sent them a message through their website communication system. A week later--maybe more--and no response. No attempt to make things right, not even an acknowledgement of my message or an "oops, sorry". My message was completely ignored. Once a company lowers its quality and ignores its customers, it's on its way out. I know Winston's is the big provider of Irish sausages in the area, but they can't be the only one. I'm going to look for another. read more

I ordered 2 subs & chicken quesadillas, soup & a wrap. My bill was $51 biggest rip off ever. The quesadillas were the worst I've ever had in my life. In fact, they were soggy, the chicken stunk like s*** & they were cooked on a dorm room grill, absolutely disgusting. The subs had one thin piece of turkey & ham the rest was bread. The cream of chicken soup had these large pieces of artificial canned chicken, awful, cold, tasteless & I would be embarrassed to put food out like this. This is a small market with Lots of imported Irish food items. But they also have many other things. They have a full service deli and fresh baked Irish soda bread. The loaf I chose was still warm when I picked it up. There is a small frozen section and produce section too. The store is located next to the restaurant. I was introduced to this place by a friend for their corned beef. The have great corned beef roasts. For most of you, this may be a 3 star place because the place is smallish and the selection very limited, but if it's Irish rashers (bacon) and sausage and pudding you're looking for, this could be a 5-star lifesaver. This is an Irish market, full of the stuff that that an Irish heart (and stomach) longs for when they're missing home. There's Tayto crisps here, and a ton of Cadbury chocolates. They've got Orange Club sodas and Mi Wadi and Red and White Lemonade. But it's the meat counter that we were there for, and they didn't disappoint. The sausages are almost as good as Galtee's and the rashers are among the best anywhere. The black pudding was good (not great, herself said) and the white pudding was great (we agreed). We bought the sausages frozen, and we should have bought at least some of the rashers frozen, too. But it made a glorious fry that evening along with some of my wife's homemade white soda bread! Now if only we had some of granny's potato cakes! read more

I have patronized this store, and their location on 63rd street, for over 30 years. The Tinley location feels like an authentic Irish market (having shopped in them, I can tell you it's true). Their bangers, black pudding, and corned beef are the best I've ever had. Throw the bangers in the oven for 35 minutes and your life will change! You can indulge in Irish treats, great cuts of chops, steaks, pre-made sides, and pick up a gift or two for yourself while you're there. This place combines incredible nostalgia (for me) and top quality. We have also used their catering services for a party we had in 2010. The prices were fair and taste was perfect. There might be other Irish markets out there, but you'd be wasting your time going to them. read more

Over the years, I've become less and less impressed with Winstons. I used to drive about an hour to get here, and would spend way more money than I really should on imported tea, crisps, biscuits, and the like. I would stock up my shelves with all sorts of goodies. But as time progressed, and other stores began stocking imported foods, Winston's started to lose its appeal, and I find myself coming here less frequently. I think it first started going downhill when I tried one of their frozen pies. It was pretty awful, but I continued to shop there (just avoiding any of the frozen meals). Then I realized that most of the staples I bought there (Yorkshire Gold tea, HP sauce, various types of biscuits, etc.) could be found at any Mariano's. Finally, when Jolly Posh in Irving Park opened, that was sort of the end of it for me. Despite being half the size, JP has a more interesting selection in terms of quality and variety, and their sell-by dates tend to be much further out. If I happen to be in the area I'll stop in (their prices on clotted cream are excellent) but I don't really find the need to go out of my way to shop here any more. read more

Best Deli & meats in the area! They know what they are doing and are typically cheaper than Jewel. Deli sandwiches get an A+. Service is always great. They carry a large selection of international foods, including the European version of candy (If you haven't tried a Kit Kat from the UK u r missing out!). Whenever we go to visit the niblings in Rockford, we always stop at the Ashford House in Tinley Park on the way back. And I have the Big breakfast. This time we had three niblings with us: the six-year-old had pancakes, the eight-year-old had waffles, and the ten-year-old split two HUGE breakfasts with her ladyship and I. Then we went to Winston's next door and bought ten pounds of bacon and Sausages. I can't think of a better way to start the long drive home. read more

Our wedding was held at an athletics based social hall in Tinley Park that my family has been attending for generations. As my (now) husband and I are from Oregon, I asked family from the area for a reccomendation for a caterer with a good reputation. My Great Aunt recommended Winstons. I am very glad she did as our event turned out perfectly. Winstons excellent staff took a detailed order, allowed me to change my head count only a few days before, created high quality good tasting food at a very affordable price. Cute little shop full of Irish fare, fresh meats and cheese, bread, and specialty drinks. We came in here after dining next door, and I really enjoyed looking at the Irish candies and specialty beverages. I took a trip to Ireland as a kid and recalled seeing some of those candies there, so it was a nice trip down memory lane! I ended up buying a gummy candy called "Randoms", and LOVED them.
